I know this sounds really stupid..but wouldn't a little diet, exercise suffice...Giving kids statins once again is the numbers game...reduce all the numbers and what do you have....good health...I to not think so. I think the thought is pretty scary...carol stanley author "For Kids 59.99 and Over"

The FDA Doesn't seem to be very concerned with protecting our children, or adults for that matter. Big pharmaceutical companies and lobbyists seem to be able to sell whatever they want...Regardless of the effects on the human body. It almost seems as if the stuff that is good for us doesn't get the approval in the US. Do they want us to be sick or healthy??? I guess it brings in more money to keep us dependant on medications.

My children will not be guinea pigs for the FDA or for big businesses profit. Period.

I'm not convinced statins should be used by adults, much less by children. Side effects can be nasty -- permanent muscle damage and pain, memory loss, nerve damage and kidney failure [SOURCE: http://www.statinanswers.com/effects.htm ]. It doesn't make sense to introduce these risks in developing children. Who conducted the research leading to the conclusion that children should take statins? Are drug companies involved in any way (directly or by funding the research)? I read that only one person involved in the American Academy of Pediatrics is a pediatric physician. Is that true?

As long as we are positive that the high cholesterol comes from heredity and not poor diet/lack of exercise, sometimes meds may be necessary. But, I'd still check out any natural product PRIOR to putting my kid on anything.
