Obama stated he grew up without a father and on another time he stated he father was very strict. Is this how he is going to run the country, different answers on different days, same subject. He is not the only person on earth who grew up without a father. Many people without fathers grew up to lead a good life. So Obama stop the pity tripping. How long has Obama been in politics, think about it, and you want him to lead our country. Take an aspirin, you must be having a migran headache. You would not favor Obama if you had your head clear. WAKE UP BLACK AMERICA, OBAMA DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU, HE JUST WANTS YOUR VOTE.

    • Posted By: Express-talk @ 07/11/2008 8:31:32 AM

Posted comments from Ralphied suggests he lacks every substance on the matter. You are from the GOP.But black votes are not for the GOP no matter the circumstances!Obama´s position as a would be President for all is the right one.His staying in the center of issues and yet show some sensitivities on some issues on both left and right(freedom and security)is a perfect one!
His combination of white and black is not only symbolic in uniting Americans but his energy and eager to make America´s dream a reality is the reason why
whites, minorities and all young people cherish him a lot.His wisdom is used behind close doors by the Bush administration. The recent, being dialog with North korea or gradually closing Iraq´s chapter and focusing the fight on the
terrorit strong hold in Afghanistan and shift the spending of Iraq on the economy.Obama remains the candidate of a better vision and judgement that we can´t forgo in the coming 4 years! Mccain rely 100% on advisers alone, yet he´s very forgetful, high tempered, will rather spend hundreds of trillions in Iraq by staying indefinit, will again quickly rush into war, believes he needs some education on economy at time solutions are urgently needed! The choice I guess, is clear for all Americans!

      • Posted By: News and Notes @ 07/11/2008 11:43:49 AM

We don't know Obama's judgement yet. Obama had no responsibility for voting for or against the Iraq war. that was a lovely anti-war speech he made in 2002, but coming from an Illinois state legislator doesn;t mean much

        • Posted By: ecespedes @ 07/11/2008 1:22:00 PM

Does it really matter where he was? To me it doesn't he still had the good judgment to speak against it

          • Posted By: News and Notes @ 07/11/2008 1:43:46 PM

Of course it matters. His speaking out had little consequence. You cannot compare his speaking out to senators who voted for or against the resolution, becuase Obama did not have the responsibility that goes along with such a vote.

    • Posted By: Express-talk @ 07/11/2008 8:37:55 AM

Mr Ralphied, time to grow up takes childhood to at least 18!If Obama could recollect from childhood that his father was strict for example,he´s right.Aand he also says he grew up without his father,he´s also right!I guess it´s either
you are confused or you are here trying some games for the GOP.

    • Posted By: Express-talk @ 07/11/2008 8:07:38 AM

I wonder if Ralphied understands his own comments at all?If Obama says he grew up without his father,he is right! If he at same time says his father was strict,he is also right because he could rember or recollect at certain childhood age before his father left.Growing up takes the childhood level to the age of at least 18,which was the father´s time of absentia. So I guess you must come from the GOP trying to discourage blacks, but remember black votes will never go to GOP no matter the circumstance.Blacks of this generation see thigs differently. They are hungry for one USA,no divisions are tolerated and with Obama´s white and black combination, his positive visions for America, good judgements and solutions for the economy, health care, women´s rights, clean environment and a more peaceful world,he clearly remains the only candidate of the middle that cares for all American and no doubts,a symble of Unity!

imagine how sick your going to be whem a black man in sworn into the highest office in the land true deomocrat. look son, this country was set up for white men to succeed and with all of that going for you you still are a failure. a white man in this country has no reason to be a loser like yourself and yet you've managed to do so. there is one option left, you can get out of this country. next post, leave your mailing address and i'm sure we can get you on your way, maybe to nazi germany, where like minded failures whine.

    • Posted By: SPORTLOCK09 @ 07/10/2008 8:13:42 PM

Ok let's get the facts on the table here home boy.
      1. Barack Obama is, regardless howmuch your hate for whites wants to deny it, HALF WHITE.
Yup believe it, his mammy was a white chick from KANSAS.
      2. White men have been the ni$$er in this country for the last 20 years.
I know this may be hard on you being a racist and all but Affirmative action ONLY, yes, ONLY excludes the white man. So, yes there would be plenty of reasons a white man would be unsuccessful in this country. Example? Sorry sir, you are obviously more qualified for the position BUT, we have to meet our quota of minorities and women. Even the NFL has to waste the time of a black coach if they have already choosen a white coach for the team because they HAVE to interview X amount of black coaches before they can hire one.
      3. You really need to consider changing your name. To call yourself JC is blasphamy.
Now im not defending anyone because their white. Believe me, plenty of piece of shyt white trash out there.
Just dont want you to go believing white men in this country have it easy. Most of you would commit suicide the first day of being white when you find out there is no handout for being so. Rich white people just like rich black people HATE poor whites and blacks. It is not a race thing, it's a class thing.
      Take care, love you too!

      • Posted By: MaddiesFace @ 07/11/2008 1:29:33 PM

You sir are a horrible, horrible man. You demean the white race, mothers, teacher and children. Your free use of 'mammy', calling white people the same word we as a race demeaned the African American culture with in the form of 'new' is well past ignorant. Using the word sir in any context is hurtful to other races. You obviously don't understand neither the politics of this country, nor the attitude we had toward those less fortunate than us. You keep it alive and well and with a stench. We, as a race have not being giving by choice to those we've looked down upon. You should be ashamed sir. You are disrespectful and ogre-ly. I do not understand why the prejudiced RNC and DNC insist on calling other races prejudiced. Please don't call anyone else racist. You are a horrible man sir. John Sidney McCain does not need your vote.

true democrat, here is another fellow racist idiots rants.
obama for president? You outa your gourd? The stupid jig will push a reparations bill through. One question for all of you "African-Americans" (hereafter called black because I dont wanna type those words to much) Slavery was abolished what 150 or so years ago and you wherent born into the institution, your folks werent, your grandparents wherent...MAYBE your great great grandparents where but I wont bet on that either. Why dont we hear about the slavery going on in africa? namely Sudan? Why dont you go over there and topple the government there and free the slaves there? Why do yall insist that everything the white man does is aimed at you to "keep you down"? Why is it that only someone thats white can be racist? Why is it racist not to vote for obama? Why is it the white mans fault that the blacks break the law more often than a white man?
Im white and I sure as hell wont vote for that monster. I know what he will do when he gets in office and it wont be good. Am I racist just because I wont vote for the thing? If you say I am, then yeah I am. None of you know me in real life and, well, Im not gonna pull punches. Id sooner have dog as president because they have more brains. You can at least train a dog to do tricks.

You are right and I am wrong. The only white racism in this country ended 150 years ago. No longer do "blacks" have to do deal with people who consider them animals. Any racism that we point out is totally a figment of our imaginations. We, even though we've always voted for white men, are now racists. As i said, I stand corrected.

P.S. In terms of some real pathology that exists among some African-Americans, I can't explain that to someone who is very likely mentally inbalanced himself.

Please read the Los Angeles Times Newspaper today. There is a story about Senator Mc Cain and the truth behind his divorce of his first wife. I didn't know that he cheated on her and ticked off President and Mrs Reagan. That is why the endorsment by Mrs. Reagan was so overblown. It is a decent article and I didn't think that it was slanted to the left. I though it was well balanced.

You're an idiot. It's ridiculous how racist some people are, all while attempting to hide it behind the misinformed and cowardly facade of "all Muslims are terrorists". Sure, and all Jews are tightwads, and all Mormons are polygamists, and all Christians are hypocrites...not at all stereotypical, right? Truth is, terrorists are radicals. Ever hear of the Crusades? Wonder how christianity ever survived the stigma of those radicals. Anyway, point is, although Barack is NOT a Muslim, if he was that would not automatically make him a terrorist. But I guess I can see why you would think that way, if of course you are one of those people who is terrified of an ideas, ideologies or philosophies that are different from your own.

This was posted in the Washington Post today:

Walters said that "we're not electing him to be preacher in chief," and that Obama needs to give more speeches about how he would help black communities.

Eric Easter, a blogger on the joint Web site of Jet and Ebony, two black-oriented magazines, wrote yesterday that some of Obama's rhetoric "smacked of calculated political expediency" in an effort to win over white voters.

The criticism was similar in some ways to the reaction to comedian Bill Cosby, who over the past decade made some of the same points as Obama

I wonder what would happen if a White candidate were only talking to white people what would the media say then? Isn't Obama suppose to be the candidate for all people in America? The other thing I thought was really funny about the article in the Washington Post was that Obama stole the idea from Cosby acting like it is his own idea!!! Isn't it about time if an Affrican American wants to become President that he follows the same rules all white Candidates have to follow and that is talk to all Americans as one!! Think about it has any white candidate ever just talked to white people? The answer is no!! This is what is causing problems in America now, because all of a sudden white and black people are being seperated. Just today on MSNBC Chris Matthews show they were talking about Black America and White America. I think this is seting us back like 50 years. I also think America has come a long way and this presidential race is undoing all the progress that has been made in America between white and black people. Before this presidential race I think people of all races were getting along pretty well. Lets take race out of this and get back to getting along and not seperating people.

You're taking this issue out of context, colbalt6. Obama was presenting a sermon as the featured speaker at a predominately black church, on Father's Day, in reference to a biblical passage (Matthew 7: 24-25). You tailor your speeches to the constituents that you are directly speaking to. When Obama spoke to a predominately Jewish audience recently in Florida his content was directed to their needs and concerns. Your point is not valid if you do not consider the audience with your content. Also, a church congregation is different that a megaevent audience; the respect for a church pulpit is something not to be taken lightly. You cannot look at them in the same way that you would look at a political circuit speech that is altered from time to time depending on the venue. The hardest place to speake is probably in fornt of a church congregation because the sermon is based in scripture, therefore the thought process is deeper.

  • Posted By: Smashley4 @ 07/11/2008 1:51:47 AM

Gad, some people are idiots. I don't even try to understand these good Christians who continue to send me emails about how Barack is a Muslim terrorist set out to ruin our country. Ahh, I get it, all people who have any connection to Muslim culture (whether or not they actually are of that religion) are terrorists, huh? Oh, like all Jews are cheap and all Mormons are polygamists? Did these people ever hear of the Crusades? Well well, I guess Christianity has had it's dirty little radicals too. Good thing the world has pretty much forgotten about that though or else McCain might be the one in trouble. Concentrate on the man, not who provided the sperm and the middle name.

Ralphied I once took a personality test and it concluded that I had a divergent personality which means I can see out of different windows of the same house, this may be true of many people including senator Obama without them be disingenuous, but if you already have your mind made up about his moral make-up then using current events to justify your bias denies you of your American right to be just that. I believe the politics of left versus right has robbed Americans of their ability to engage in divergent discussion and it is unfortunate in some observers eyes Obama could never do the right thing without some political expediency being at the center of it. It may be true he wants your vote, but that is true of every politician, but what I also believe is true is that he has an unrelenting desire to do the right thing for all Americans once he becomes president.

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 07/11/2008 11:41:37 AM

Just the opposite. Those who have not yet made up their mind have a thirst and yearning to know who Obama really is. He hasn't been on the national scene very long, and some are skeptical and believe he hasn't proven his ability to deliver on his powerful message. Substance please !

  • Posted By: Jill from Florida @ 07/11/2008 8:17:33 AM

Yes, the MSM has us so controlled with how we should feel. First we love Britney, then she's a bad girl, then she's a psycho, then she's trying to be good and now we need to give her career another shot.

Please, Mainstream Citizens are not as fickle as that. You are not talking about mindless preteens who are going to the polls to vote.

As the great Bill Clinton once stated, "It's the economy, stupid!"

And, all we have to do is see what the Democratic Congress (Obama included) is doing to make the necessary corrections over the past 1 1/2 years. How many times they crossed the aisle to fix problems before they exploded. We aren't looking for handouts (short term benefits), we want solutions. Any every solution we can think of, the Democrats refuse to act on responsibly.

Rather than tackle the immediate problem of high gas prices, the Democrats try to implement their controversial long-term (42 years worth) dream for renewable energy. Does that help get cheaper gas in my car or diesel in my truck now? No, but in 5 or 10 years things will be better.

Rather than putting a moratorium on housing foreclosures and requiring renegotiations on rates and payments for worthy homeowners, we bail out the mortgage companies who made unscrupulous loans, and foreclosures of worthy homeowners continue. Their solution is to have the US government (FHA) takeover all at-risk mortgages - including the people who bought a house for 15 times their annual salary. (It's called bailing out your lobbyists at the price of your constituents.)

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 07/11/2008 11:40:04 AM

The mortgage companies themselves should approach lenders and offer more attractive loans to them. After all, the mortgage companies don't want the property

I admire Obama for the frank, honest comments he has about society. He's right: fathers, not just blacks, need to take more of an interest in their children and provide for them. How many single mothers of ALL races do we see these days, struggling to make ends meet? Sure, they have a part in their situation, but so many men up and leave or only half-heartedly participate in their childrens' lives. Obama encourages young black men to seek and education and be a productive member of society--noting that they're not gonna be the next big rapper or sports star. Only by honest, open discussion like what he promotes will we have have true acceptance and change for the better in this country. Jesse Jackson just wants to stir things up and see ill will in Obama's comments where there is none. His crude comments show him for exactly what he is--low class.

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 07/11/2008 11:38:44 AM

You don't have to be an Obama supporter to realize that his comments about fathers was universal, appropriate, and helpful. Jackson has gone off the deep end

  • Posted By: darkmatter360 @ 07/11/2008 8:59:51 AM

Jesse Jackson represents the struggles of the past but he, and others like him also represents the hindrances of the present and a threat to the future and that threat is in the form of presenting the black community as a political and economic monolith, which he by right of seniority or divine province represents. About ten or so years ago I met an elderly black man who had experienced the pre-civil rights and pre-integration days, the days when the government was not so interventionist, speaking in way I had never heard before, he said things like, integration and civil rights seriously stifled the progress black people had made on their own because it crippled the confidence a black person had to have in those days to succeed, I don???t think we could nor should we go completely back to those days, but what I sense in Obama, is a return to the pride and moral high ground the black community once had before the immoral degradation which infects so many black leaders ran rampant.

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 07/11/2008 11:37:47 AM

Jesse Jackson has made so much money and fame by playing the black victim card, that he has convinced himself that his act is actually true

  • Posted By: reader9999 @ 07/11/2008 9:02:53 AM

Given that Jackson didn't know that the mic was still on he was talking off the cuff. It was a figure of speech. What he was trying to say is that the government has not done enough for the black communities to give them equal education, jobs, and a way to get out of the circular demise of being born in a poor community that makes it difficult to rise above what their neighbors and peers are doing. While the comments are crude, the point is a good one and he was just thinking out loud. I'd like to see those who live in middle class communities go live in an poor black communicty and raise their children there and see what happens to their kids. It's a vicious circle. Jackson's comments had a valid point to them. Sometimes we all use words like "He's a jerk" or whatever when we are just talking casually about a person. This was such the case. I hope Obama does benefit from the comments though, but Jackson is no different than the rest of us. He's human and will speak his mind making statements that sound crude but are not meant to be taken literally. Know what I mean?

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 07/11/2008 11:36:47 AM

If you are a national figure in an interview room, you shouldn't be stupid enough to "think out loud" in such a terse and inappropriate manner. It's not like he was inside his own home. You cannot justify Jackson's statements.

The race for the White House is getting a bit closer. The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows Barack Obama???s lead over John McCain down to a statistically insignificant single percentage point, 43% to 42%. Prior to today, Obama had enjoyed at least a four-point advantage every day since Hillary Clinton dropped out of the race over a month ago. This is the first time his support has fallen below the 45% level since May 31.
