Comment: Obama fanatics like CNN's Canday Crowley just don't get it .
Here's what she said to David Gergen after he suggested Obama needs to add excitement with the VP pick:
Crowley : (laughter) : I -- listen, I mean, you know, I love David, and I think he's so smart. But I -- I think that the Obama ticket knows that the excitement is at the top, that they don't need any more juice at this point.

Comment: These comments show how uneducated and short-sighted we Americans are. They show how we can bend facts and faulty logic into a pretzel and serve it up. Then we walk into the voting booth and make a decision on what is really "gut instinct".

Oh. Democrats did not "take over Congress". True, they are majority, but without 2/3 control they cannot enact any legislation without Bush's approval. Check your constitution. I

Comment: Obama is misleading people in order to win a point that is harmful for this country. We need to get off our depency of foreign oil....Mccain has suggested that we tackle this problem by focusing on all solutions...drill off shore, clean coal, nuclear power, wind, solar, biofuels, conservation and alternative engine cars. Obama's proposal is to punish oil companies....claiming they have not drilled on millions of acres...yet they have! and where they have not put in a hole, it is because theres no oil there.

This problem is too serious for anyone to play politics with and it saddens me that Obama is playing politics with this issue.........he should stand up next to John Mccain and support an all out surge to get our nation off foriegn oil.....and stop playing politics with our national and economic security for his own political gain.

I do not want my son growing up in a country ravage with economic and military chaos because we are at the mercy of foreign nations for our livelihood. This is very serious stuff folks...please wake up...read, do your research and act today......this is no laughing matter!

Comment: Mandelay, Obama went to Harvard Law. Courses or fluency in a foreign language is not required in law school. His undergraduate education was in the city of New York. So perhaps you should look at how rigorous were the standards at Morningside Heights.

Comment: The poll sample is biased to the point of cooking the results. And Newsweek can't explain why the numbers have changed so much? Easy when you include nearly as many Republicans as Democrats in the sample; and poll 444 people aged 60+ (who strongly favor McCain) and 169 people aged 18-39 (who strongly favor Obama). And of the 324 Democrats in your poll, 212 are Clintonites? You got the results yoiu wanted.

Comment: Gallup's 2007 poll of party id had Americans identifying themselves as Democrats by 12 points over those identifying themselves as Republicans: http://www.pollster.com/blogs/gallups_2008_generic_vote.php Why does Newsweek think there is an equal # of Democrats and Republicans in this year's election cycle??? Are you are an independent magazine, or a RNC outlet???

If you printed out this poll out, it wouldn't be worthy of toilet paper.

Comment: Went to school in NYC in the late 60's early 70s and could read, write and speak French when I graduated HS and I also had to take another year of French as a "requirement" at the City University before I finally graduated with a BA. I have no idea why Barry Obama, who went to Harvard, can only say "Merci, beaucoup." Was the Ivy League dumbed down back then? (I am 10 years older than the big O so I am shocked that education at Harvard crumbled in those years.) Also, I grew up on the east side in Manhattan during the Puerto Rican immigration wave. Since then, I've seen everyone coming to the city in waves, all learning English, whether they sold hot dogs on the corner or drove taxi cabs. And yet, more and more signs in store windows said "Se habla espanol." Why? Why do I call businesses and find an option to press 1 or 2 for Spanish or, even sillier, "to continue in English, press blah, blah." So tell me again why I need to learn Spanish? And no disrespect meant to anyone who is bi-lingual and, when in the U.S.A., conducts their communication in English. As for you, Barry, au revoir! Because of you and your empty suit, I left the party after a lifelong membership and Dem voting record. I will vote you away from the White House. Far away. Go to Paris. Maybe you can spend the next four years learning how to parlez-vous.

Comment: We have a recession, bank failures, foreclosusres and the possibility that Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae may crater. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is up less than 10% since Bush was sworn in 7 1/2 years ago, the war was a disaster, Afghanistan is getting worse, jobs are disappearing - and McCain wants to stay that course? Not a chance.

And as for the stupid comments about "I don't want to learn to speak Spanish"....what a sap. I went to High School back in the 1960's - and everyone back then was required to take and master at least one foreign language. It was simply part of a good education. The anti-science, xenophobic Luddites of the right want to just dumb the whole electorate down - so that won't ask questions about the last 8 years.

Comment: Americans deserve to know the truth about oil and gasoline prices and where the fault lies.

Price of oil when Bush took office - $29

Price of oil when democrats took over Congress - $51

      Price of oil today, July 11, 2008 - $145

Price of gasoline when Bush took office - $1.60

Price of gasoline when Democrats took over Congress - $2.34

      Price of gasoline today, July 11, 2008 - $4.30

During the first 58 months of Bush's term in office, the price of a barrel of oil increased by $22 and a gallon of gasoline increased by $0.64! In the last 20 months of Bush's term in office, since the Democrats took control of Congress, the price of a barrel of oil increased by $94 and a gallon of gasoline increased by $1.96.

Now, who do you think is more responsible for gasoline prices being so high? Let me clue you in! Speculators are accused of being responsible for high oil prices. But, why would they be blamed? Their intelligence tells them that increased US oil drilling will never be allowed under a Democrat controlled Congress and our dependency on foreign crude will continue to rise. They are not stupid!!

Some ignorant Americans are going around saying that oil companies are not drilling on millions of acres that they have leased. That is a lie!! They are drilling dry hole after dry hole. There is not much oil there to be found. The oil companies know where the oil is and where it would be profitable to drill. Why are we telling them where to drill and where not to drill? Because our Congress contains a bunch of elite politicians that can afford high gas prices since the tax payers pay their expenses.

Congress needs to act on legislation immediately to open up offshore drilling and ANWR drilling. This Congress is killing the American people. Their approval rating is down to 9% and if anymore Democrats are elected, it could go to 0%. If the U.S. commits to using our own resources rather than depending on foreign countries, the price of oil would drop immediately! OPEC cannot afford to lose a big spender like the U.S.! The LOUD AND PROUD AMERICANS need to take action immediately and persuade Congress to get off their hands and accomplish something to help the American people now and in the future.

The Republicans passed an energy bill and Clinton vetoed it. Clinton said that it would take ten years to get the oil to the market. That was twelve years ago and look where we are today. Sound familiar?

Comment: I guess Newsweek got tired of all the other polling agencies Poo-pooing on them so they had a terrible sampling pool this time. Just as many republicans as democrats and more independents than both. Give me a break. I guess Newsweek said, if you can't beat em join em.

Comment: The race has definitely tightened due to Obama foot in mouth desease. I work for a polling company myself and the momentum is clearly in McCain's court. I personally am a MCCain leaner. I don't think I want to learn Spanish quite yet!

Wow, obviously the first election you've seen. It's JULY! You look at two polls, but you can also look at Rasmussen Obama by 3%, Newweek Obama by 3% and Gallup 6% now but has been 2% the last two days.

Way too early to be cocky like your empty candidate!

Comment: Ignorant American people. A good candidate changes their position based on experience and present conditions and not on a whelm or for political expediency. Experience takes many weeks, months and years and must be thoroughly analyzed before you decide to change your mind on important issues. Changing your mind in just a few hours or a few days is called flip flopping and that is an appropriate name for it. We need a president that examines history and past practices very carefully before he changes his mind and changes policy for this country. We don't need someone that flows with the tide and looks at polls to make decisions. Yes, we need someone that listens to the people, but in some cases, based on information that can't be made public, the president must use his/her good judgement.

Obama is controlled and told what to say and where he stands on a particular issue by his election staff. These people determine what the public wants to hear or where the other candidate stands on an issue, and then tells Obama what to say to the voters. Obama reads directly from a teleprompter most of the time and says exactly what his staff has come up with. He sounds like a great politician, but in fact he is just a robot with a lot of shrewd politicians behind him who have created a new political figure. Don't get caught up in their rhetoric and make an important decision that you will REGRET for the rest of your life.

Comment: Two weeks ago, these idiots put out a poll that had Obama 15 points up and they did it with banner headlines. Now they show him dropping 12 of those points. Where are the banners?

Comment: I notice that the internals show Obama with only 70% of the non-white vote. If you believe that, I guess you canbelieve the rest.

Comment: I can vividly remember being in Cleveland on the last general election day and Michael Moore and Rosanne Barr rolling around the city with their anti Bush speeches on every news channel. The day after the election, they couldn't be found. Also, uncle Ted Kennedy was referring to President Kerry and stated the nation was going to see a change. Obama fanatics don't get excited yet!
