The original poll was a clear outlier. The new poll is closer to the rest of the pack. With a large number of polls out there, reporters have no excuse for writing stories based on a single poll. It's misleading to the readers and simply bad journalism.

The Zogby shows Obama leading across the US, and that is usually the most reliable poll. But it may be older data now, who knows?

I would NOT vote for Obama even if Hillary is the VP. Obama will just use her to win 8 years in the Whitehouse. After that, from shear terror that Hillary will completely overshaddow him, Obama will marginalize her to the point that she'll be invisible. First of all, Hillary will make Michelle Obama look like the hired help and then the two of them will be in the National Enquirer each week bitching at each other (Michelle has a temper). Hillary thinks on her feet, is smarter, more experienced, better connected and respected. Obama will always look like he's one step behind Hillary holding her umbrella. He'll have no choice but to hide Hillary in the attic.

I'd be scared if Hillary was his VP that Bill would arrange a "plane crash" for Obama so Hillary could suddenly benefit and become the President.

      • Posted By: Richard1327 @ 07/12/2008 10:52:16 AM

        Why scared?

You are mentally deranged. That is just stupid on your behalf.

I see a lot of comments in these discussions about the nature of polls themselves -- maybe even that no one should bother to do them since the results cannot be guaranteed. Polling is a valid activity, and polls will continue to be done in this campaign. There is always a possibility for a sampling error in any particular poll, but over time polls will paint a picture of what is going on.

Obama economics theory= Do nothing, get used to $8.00 a gallon,or more.
McCain economics theory= Use your own resources, and get away from foreign dependance. It,s a no brainer. McCain 08.

I consider myself a progressive independent and I still support Obamam because he really embodies change no matter what the GOP wants you to believe. He is our best shot at unifying this country and making it stronger. He has the intelligence, vision and physical energy to deal with complex issues. He is willing to give middle class American tax breaks. This is a no brainer. COme November those people in Appalachia and the working class will vote for Obama.

    • Posted By: cowen123456 @ 07/12/2008 9:27:29 AM

Yes, Obama embodies change alright.....like changing his mind and changing the presidential seal.

Not exactly the kind of change americans were hoping for.

      • Posted By: tee866 @ 07/12/2008 10:32:18 AM

As a dem in Appalachia I can say that no i won't be voting for Obama in Nov. because he has ignored us from when he first decided to run for POTUS why should I give him my vote now?

    • Posted By: tee866 @ 07/12/2008 10:28:54 AM

As a dem in Appalachia I can say that no a lot of us won't be voting for Obama in Nov. because he all but ignored us from the day he decided to run for POTUs and we don't forget things like that just because we're dem's .

    • Posted By: Jill from Florida @ 07/12/2008 9:27:28 AM

The middle class and working class would prefer having good paying jobs, not hand outs. They want their income to be inline with the prices of life's necessities.

  • Posted By: ronniehester57 @ 07/12/2008 10:27:58 AM

Shear propaganda! Why is the media and you keeping McCain's hope alive by sampling controlled populations. The statistical validity and reliability is diminished and is of no relevance when the calculation of the data has been skewed. Oh, I understand, you have to ensure JOB SECURITY!

  • Posted By: aminahyaquin @ 07/12/2008 10:00:13 AM

What a difference the detah of Tim Russert has made.! Hw as the only cross-appeal pundit who could not be swayed by group think.
Such a targedy for our nation if the secret behind the scenes macihinations of the Clintons continues to bankrupt our nation adn derail such a great candidate.
The Clintons adn their supporters did enough to ruin the primary seson by facilitating McCain's popularity. Now they will continue to scuttle an honest and brilliant candidate in Obama so they can make a case for Hillary.
What a national horror are these blind, greedy plutocrats with special interests that continue the same old Washington Dc sleaight of hand polictial games.
they are trying to amke Obama disappear for teh convetion and they may succeed.
Our nation, for corporate interests and the xurrent untenable rotten staus quo.

    • Posted By: Jillie @ 07/12/2008 10:19:21 AM

"ruin the primary season"? are you serious? hillary clinton was RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT. she was as much a candidate as obama. and now that the party elite selected him, (he did not win enough pledged delegates), she has done everything she has been asked to do.

at some point, you must acknowledge that she cannot win this thing FOR HIM. he has got to do that on his own.

  • Posted By: flipster @ 07/12/2008 10:18:30 AM

To understand why Obama has dropped and McCain has stayed up all you need to do is look at your own coverage and that of the mainstream media. McCain's gaffes, distortions, and outright lies are under reported to a a degree of absurdity.

As soon as the media decides to report fairly and show McCain's positions for what they are his popularity will drop like a lead balloon. But the fix is in and the media, including Newsweek, is not doing its job.

  • Posted By: pugs @ 07/12/2008 10:12:42 AM

OK the words "Vanquished Hillary" just cannot be used , lets see she had the win in the popular vote and he barely got the nomination so now it shows. If he could barely win the Democratic nomination how do the Dems expect him to Win in Nov??? Oh yes then there is getting Hillary back in the picture, I think that would be a big help!!

  • Posted By: Martha331 @ 07/12/2008 10:02:25 AM

I am concerned that the so-called weekly polls are done with a purpose to prevent a negative lasting impression for a week that was a bad press week for McCain. The Media had luke warm coverage of many of these bad press stories. Also these pollsters need to start posting the numbers survyed in thes polls and who were the participants

  • Posted By: SKVAM @ 07/12/2008 9:59:15 AM

Yet another idiotic polling story. Moronic. Insipid. The result of news divisions no longer investigating anything of any importance. News is disaster, sports, weather, happy talk, and official pronouncements. Discussion is the same old talking heads and officials or flunkies of one party or the other. Sigh. One more crappy polling story.

  • Posted By: REALITY CHECK @ 07/12/2008 9:41:01 AM

I'M SURE THAT YOU CAN FIND A POLL THAT WILL SHOW ANYTHING YOU WANT IF YOU LOOK HARD ENOUGH. HISTORY SHOWS THAT THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE ALWAYS ENJOYS ABOUT A FIVE POINT LEAD DURING THE SUMMER, WHICH REVERSES IN SEPTEMBER, SO DON'T GET EXCITED. BY THE WAY, I'VE NEVER SEEN SUCH WIDE RANGING POLLS, WITH SOME DIFFERENCES EXCEEDING THE "MARGIN OF ERROR" BY RIDICULOUS AMOUNTS - LEADING TO THE CONCLUSION THAT SOME OF THE MORE EXTREME ONES ARE POLITICALLY SLANTED POLLS. BASED ON THE LAST TWO ELECTIONS, ONLY TWO ARE RELIABLE - RASMUSSEN AND SURVEY USA, SO IGNORE THE OTHERS.

    • Posted By: Richard1327 @ 07/12/2008 9:57:26 AM

Thanks for "your verion of reality" check. You're one of those people that say "if I see, hear or read anything that doesn't agree with my opinion then it doesn't really matter" and your reasoning is faulty.

  • Posted By: bschiel @ 07/12/2008 9:40:05 AM

Richard, let it go. Start looking for a new target to aim the internal rage you're pointing at Bush. ....gotta find a new place the the middle of January. Try the Dallas Cowboys. That's always a good place.

    • Posted By: Richard1327 @ 07/12/2008 9:53:42 AM

I love the way you are able to psycho-analyze from a few sentences. You're obviously a very emotional person who likes to interpret and project on others. If you carefully read and try to comprehend just what is written instead of misinterpreting, you will understand more of what is really going on here. I never wrote anything that indicated rage. I merely reported that Dennis Kucinich has drafted 35 valid articles for crimes and misdemeanors which are impeachable offenses.

Which Pelosi quickly swept under the table.

  • Posted By: xor6262 @ 07/12/2008 9:39:07 AM

After listening to both McCain and Obama speak, I find it "very" disturbing that there are a signiicant number of people who support McCain. I had always had faith in the common wisdom of the American public to see thru the political BS that is found throughout the McCain campaign. Are these people brain dead or what? When, in their infinate wisdom, they re-elected Bush, my faith in them was really shaken. Now I see it happening again. I keep being reminded of the fall and decline of the Roman Empire. We haven't lasted anywhere as long as they did. In my lifetime, I have seen us rise to the ultmate in power and wealth. Here we are decling, victem of greed and arrogance.I am saddened!

    • Posted By: Jill from Florida @ 07/12/2008 9:50:18 AM

The decline you are stating is the direct result of Obama's puppetmasters.

Under Daschle, George Mitchell, Brzezinski, Kerry, Kennedy, Dodd, Sam Nunn, Pelosi, Leahy, Durbin and other neoliberal Democrats, they sold our country out. They wrote, voted for, and implemented the unfavorable free trade policies, membership to World Trade Organization - which dictates our trade policies and limits what laws our government can write regarding prices within the US.

Obama's puppetmasters have eliminated tax breaks that helped the small businesses compete with big business. Increased skilled and unskilled worker visas EVERY YEAR.

And, YOU want more of the same? McCain could never do as much damage as Obama's puppetmasters have already done to our economy!

I can not see how McCain can be neck and neck in the polls with Obama. When campaining, McCain is filling up halls Obama fills up stadiums...Obama will be our next Presedent you can count on it. I just hope McCain does not stroke out or have a heart attack before the election. His temper is going to be what will cost him the election.

I love the title of this article. Obama 's glow is not fadind. Now that he really has delved into substantial issuses and come up with real solutions, he is a politician. InGOP world you can never win. It is obvious the authors of this article like to play with words. If Obama's glow was fading, then hoe come he is ahead 8 points in another Newsweek poll . Are thse people nuts?

    • Posted By: cowen123456 @ 07/12/2008 9:29:40 AM

Give it up! His bounce was nobounce! and Obama is actually facing shrinkage in the polls.

  • Posted By: Driver of wagons @ 07/11/2008 10:10:07 PM

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said this morning that the House Judiciary Committee may hold hearings on an impeachment resolution offered by Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio).

Kucinich is expected to offer a "privileged resolution" this afternoon calling on the House to look at whether President Bush should be removed from office for lying to Congress and the American public when he sought congressional approval back in 2002 for taking military action to invade Iraq and overthrow Saddam Hussein.

Pelosi has said previously that impeachment "was off the table," so her comments this morning were surprising, and clearly signaled a new willingness to entertain the idea of ousting Bush, although no one in the Democratic leadership believes that is likely since the president has only six months left in this term.

    • Posted By: ara9557 @ 07/11/2008 10:17:07 PM

Congress can be doing far better things instead of wasting the peoples time. No wonder that the Congress as an approval rating at 9%. Get real my friend and get off your hatred for GW and take your scorn on to the do-nothing Congress. Pityful lot they are!

      • Posted By: james1957 @ 07/11/2008 11:03:54 PM

Hatred is not the reason for impeachment. We can not hate a dog only because his boss asked him to bite. The reason for impeachment is to protect the country from being destroyed by a group of fanatically fundamentalistic fascists. The is also the duty of a true patriot who may not wear a flag pin, but reads the constitution cover to back.

        • Posted By: Richard1327 @ 07/12/2008 9:29:39 AM

Buy a clue, moron. Bush should be impeached for the 35 crimes and misdemeanors outlined in Dennis Kucinich's Articles for Impeachment - of which, any one of them is cause to remove Bush from office.

    • Posted By: Richard1327 @ 07/11/2008 10:30:04 PM

It's OK with Nancy, now that the Dems are not a sure thing for the Whitehouse. Impeachment is popular with voters and may give Obama the bounce he couldn't get on his own. So sad Obama is not 15 points over McCain with all of his popularity, his message of change, all of his money, not to mention that this is the year of the Democrats and anti Bush/GOP feelings are at all time high.

  • Posted By: cowen123456 @ 07/12/2008 9:26:04 AM

Correction: you meant Obama's single digit lead has shank!

My headline would have been "Obama facing shrinkage in the polls"

  • Posted By: republican08 @ 07/12/2008 12:28:13 AM

oh give me a break. Obama is a flip flopper. His whole primary has been about how we are getting out of this war within a short time frame and now he's changed his mind about that. Among other things . I'd have more respect for him if he had any gumption and stayed true to his values instead of being swayed to the beliefs of the popular opinion.

    • Posted By: DaytonaSteve @ 07/12/2008 3:03:20 AM

Obama: I will agree to public financing of my general election campaign if my republican opponent does also.
John McCain: I have signed on to public financing for my general election campaign.
Obama: I will not take public financing because it will put me at a disadvantage. Besides all the small donors are sort of public financing.
Now if that isn't a flip-flop on one of his premeir issues (public financing of campaigns to get big money out of politics) I don't know what is. I have been a democrat my entire life and have never ever voted for a republican even in local politics. But sometimes we must put party politics aside and do what is best for the country. This is the year that will happen. This is the first time I will vote for a republican. John McCain '08

      • Posted By: Richard1327 @ 07/12/2008 9:23:51 AM

And so goes the rest of Florida, Steve. Obama can't win without us. He forgot that we WILL COUNT in the general election.

    • Posted By: nobushfan @ 07/12/2008 12:51:48 AM

He never changed his mind about getting us out of Iraq. He has always said he has to do it so much at a time and will take approx 16 months. You have no idea what a loser McCain is until you live under some of his policies here in AZ. Whenever he has been confronted in Phoenix or marched on, he goes running into hiding and no one knows where. Yet still NEVER does a damn thing!!!

    • Posted By: bigfoot46_05 @ 07/12/2008 12:32:44 AM

So I gather by your comments that flip flopping is important to you? How do you feel about McCains flip flopping? He's changed every single stance he took in 04 except the war. So how do you feel about that?
