To me, whenever I read information that makes a political race more exciting, I wonder if it is not in the media's interest to excite the public to sell more advertizing and make more money. Whenever I read that the election is like a horse race or a boxing match or a baseball game, I cannot help wondering if a close election would not sell more papers. Observe what happened in the Democrat primaries; the race was over for all intents and purposes a month before it was conceded. The press seemed to eat it up and keep the conflict going. I personally have severe doubts about this polling data; it seems too self-serving.

you are exactly right...The closer the race, the more intense the competition, the more drama, the more papers/magazines/readers and viewers the more the advertiing rates increase the more profit is made.
It's not about the truth it's about controversy, selling advertising and selling magazines/papers.

    argo70,
The higher oil prices have helped us. It is reported that this year will be the first year that gas consumption has DECREASED. It shows people are adjusting as needed. This helps us get off oil all together. The sooner the better.

    • Posted By: sharenews @ 07/12/2008 2:10:26 AM

Sounds like you are in sync with Mr. O:

CNBCs John Harwood: So could the (high) oil prices help us?

Barack Obama: I think that I would have preferred a gradual adjustment. The fact that this is such a shock to American pocketbooks is not a good thing. But if we take some steps right now to help people make the adjustment, first of all by putting more money in their pockets, but also by encouraging the market to adapt to these new circumstances more rapidly, particularly U.S. automakers....

The obvious inference is that Obama doesn't object to $4 a gallon gas per se, just how rapidly the price increased. Most Americans hate it and want gas prices to go down as rapidly as possible. Obama wants to help people to make the adjustment to new circumstances.

Nobody believed that Newswekk poll anyway except the die-hard Obama lovers.

Obama will not be getting HHillary Clinton voters. There are over 200 web sites for ex-Democrats who are now voting for McCain with millions who have signed up stating they will never vote for Obama.

John McCain and the Republican party have been given a gift this year - in a year when they should have had NO chance - now if they would just get off their duffs and come together behind their candidate they will have this eleciton locked up in no time.

Too bad, DNC, you blew it by cheating to get Obama the nomination!

  • Posted By: taztak @ 07/12/2008 1:26:37 AM

Obama's problem is everything he stands for is what he "believes" or "wants". Unfortunately this has nothing to do with his record, close associates, or reality.......

Offshore drilling is a scam. Stop blocking car companies from making better hybrid and electric cars. The Honda Insight got 61 mph. My sister has one. But they don't sell it here anymore!

They have the technology to make cars that get 100 miles to the gallon, but the Republicans block them from being sold here.

These guys still haven't debated yet and they are having polls? We don't even know OBAMA's grand plan for change. He swings to the left and then swings to the middle, and trys to swing to the right? Come on, this guy has no strategic plan. He thinks he has chances to make errors and then be able to say ohh I'm sorry my bad. That is the opitomy of a flip flopper. He graces the cover of People, Time, etc. as if he is some sort of icon - model. Please we need a president, not the CEO from Dolce and Cabana.

People are beginning to figure out that Obama is an empty suit and, following Democrats' typical M.O., merely riding a wave of favorable press coverage that he is using to position himself as a centrist after the primaries. The guy is an unqualified liberal extremist. While the American electorate is largely stupid, it is not collectively so stupid as to elect this huckster. We don't need another Carterian redistributionist idiot.

OR NON VOTES CAN SIGN THE PLEDGE BELOW RATHER THAN DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO CONTRIBUTE TO SOMETHING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

New PRO-HILLARY website launched. Anyone who would like to sign the pledge (reiterated below and on the site), just go here: http://www.together4us.com/

THE PLEDGE OF TOGETHERNESS: SPREAD THE WORD!

We stand together with her 18 million voters in pursuit of all of the following:

Bring us together by honoring Hillary Clinton and her supporters at the Democratic National Convention in Denver by:

Placing her name into nomination (following traditional protocol)

      Ensuring a roll-call vote

Inviting her to speak, during prime-time, on August 26th, the 88th anniversary of Women's Suffrage

Bring us together by adoption of policies on the Platform Committee that Hillary Clinton has championed.

Bring us together through reform of the primary and caucus system to reflect the basic principle of one person - one vote.

Bring us together through outspoken denunciation of all gender bias, racism and other forms of discrimination.

Bring us together by making a concerted effort to retire her campaign debt.

We are being asked to embrace Party Unity without the fair representation of Hillary Clinton and her 18 million voters. Party Unity requires bilateral action. We ask Barack Obama and the DNC to respond.

    Taztak,

You better get out your ass wipe for that brain of yours. Get your facts straight. The Republicans have had control of Congress for 12 of the last 14 years.

People are seeing Obama for who he really is....just another politician. They were wooed by his talk of "change" and his rhetorical skills. Now Obama is having to back up what he said he would do and he is changing his positions...even his position on the war in Iraq, which was a major issue in the primary. Now he is using hard earned donations to sponsor a race car??? The honeymoon with Obama is coming to an end and with that a drop in the polls. God save us is McCain is elected. Four more years of Bush policies is NOT what this country needs.

So if the above is the stance you have, who are you going to vote for? Barr? Nadar? Or are you interested in this option:

Domestically, Obama can do little to change things in a big way unless the Dems control congress by a 60% margin. Internationally, I want to go to sleep at night knowing there's a tough SOB in the White House that ain't gonna be tested like JFK, Carter and Clinton were and, in my opinion, failed. I want a President educated in deeds, not words. And I also wonder how much of this election has to do with the Arabs destroying our economy so they can get their man elected. This is not a black-white issue and I resent those trying to make it one. I would vote for Colin Powell without hesitation. I just don't think Mr O is going to bring any change for the better.

    • Posted By: raddave @ 07/12/2008 1:50:11 AM

How did JFK and Clinton fail exactly?

  • Posted By: home4rent @ 07/12/2008 1:49:56 AM

The people are realizing Obama is nothing special....just another politician. The honeymoon is coming to an end with his change of positions on several issues, inlcuiding how to end the war in Iraq. He won people over initially with his "change" and his rhetorical style. But now Obama has to live up to all of that and he isn't. That's the reason for his drop in the polls. People are seeing him in daylight. God save us all if this means McCain will be elected. The last thing this country needs is 4 more years of Bush polciies!

It???s tough doing the right thing, especially when it might cost you support, votes & maybe the presidential election. FISA 2008 was a good compromise. It favored the rights of the American people and allowed our government to continue to protect us at the same time. What kind of guy votes for such a thing knowing that doing so would open him up for scrutiny and empower his opponent. A person that cared only about the politics would have definitely voted against it. Sadly, it???s tough making correct decisions that protect the liberties and secures the future of people who love senseless hate and confrontations. Go Barrack, It took a lot of guts to do what you did. A good president does what's right for all of the people, not what's favored by a few or their political party. I might vote for you yet!!!!!!!!!

Bigfoot, the higher oil prices have helped us???

Good luck selling that message in an election year with gas over four dollars per gallon and rising, and the support of 70 percent of Americans now supporting offshore drilling.

    sedonakaren,

Looks like you are about to be devastated when you read that your Obamessiah came out in support of both nuclear power and coal today. The move toward the middle continue.

    Here is Obama's latest flip-flop.

Nuclear power has a very big advantage, and that is that it doesn???t produce carbons that cause global warming. Thats a big advantage. Thats important.

Nuclear offers the advantage of not accelerating global warming. You do identify the problem, though, and that is the storage of the waste. Now, what the science tells you is that there are probably some ways that we can store the interim waste somewhat safely. But, because of the fact that, the way regulations have been set up in this country, and the fact that in the past we havent been as careful as we should have been, I think people are understandably suspicious that, you know, maybe we don???t know what happens to some of this storage. Maybe it starts leaking. Maybe it get into our ground water. Maybe low-level radiation ends up being released. And, so, part of what I think we have to do is to get the best experts in the field to develop plans and improve the regulatory guidelines so that they give people confidence enough, that their families will not be affected by a nuclear facility that is located close by; even as we???re working on long-term methods to deal with the storage of this waste. And, I do think that nuclear power is going to have to be part of the mix. I know some people don???t like to hear that, but there is no perfect energy source.

Every energy source has a problem, and even energy sources that sound really clean, like for example hydropower. I was in Oregon, it turns out that its messing up the salmon runs, and the fish are being affected. You know, wind is a great energy source except sometimes its not windy, and then youve gotta store, youve gotta figure out ways to store it. So, I dont think we can eliminate any single energy source, but what we have to do???That???s part of the reason I want to spend $15 billion a year. Fifteen billion, that???s with a B, on technologies to develop clean coal so that we know how to capture the carbon from coal fire plants and not have them, have that carbon released in the atmosphere. Because we got a lot of coal. We are the Saudi Arabia of coal. If we can figure out how to use it safely, then thats something we should invest in. Solar, wind, biofuels, all these different approaches we should try and make different investments and figure out what works.

    • Posted By: raddave @ 07/12/2008 1:21:25 AM

Obama has not flip-flopped on this issue. If you would take the time to read his energy policies it states that he believes in more clean coal research and nuclear power. This has been on his website since Oct 2007.

Poll: the orporate media--McCain's Unofficial Running Mate--is doing its best to ensure a close race for maximum profitability. In the next poll, tho, Obama should be well ahead of McCain, who will host the new show Worst Week Ever. If not for Jesse Jackson providing a nutty distraction, we'd be seriously considering the RNC pulling McCain for Romney about now.

  • Posted By: Joey_Bag_of_Donuts @ 07/12/2008 12:17:44 AM

Sen. McCain is going to win and he is going to win BIG come November mark my words. The american people are realizing that Obama is all fluff with no substance. The republican party will prevail yet again. It is a great time to be republican!

At last some intelligent comment! That USA remined safe is the good presidency of Bush and the Republican administration. Obama has no respect for his president and has no experience evean as a boy scout troop leader or in University with the ROTC! God bless America as leader of the free world. May you get a President as strong as Bush and remain safe.
