The problem with Obama's candidacy is not him but his strategic Democratic support group and advisors. As an independent voter who usually leans towards the Democrats, I find myself leaning more towards McCain because I have already seen his campaign ads on T.V. ragarding his plans to tackle the energy problem, and I have heard nothing from Obama. Of course it will be harder for me to get me to change my mind back if I make it up allready. If his advisors don't understand this about the public then that is where his problem lies. Of course I think it would also be very beneficial for him to run with Hillary and to make that annoncement soon.

Republican 08, Obama is the flo=ipflopper, give me a break, McCain has flipflopped on more issues than I can count on both hands and feet and could borrow some from other people. The guy is too old, too dumb, switches his positions too frequently and might as well craw up Bush's butt. Yeah that's what I want in my president, dumb old and stupidl.

Above from the editors the the caption reads Poll: Obama opens up 15 point lead then later in newsweek poll well actually on the same page it says #1 Newsweek Poll: Obama and McCain in Statistical tie. Which is it, do you even know, how do you report 2 conflicting reports.

I am ashamed that I spent as much time as I did, trying to read the dribble on this BLOG? It is grossly apparent that the majority of you are either too ignorant to write/post anything, anywhere, anytime. Either your hands are much too BIG to be using a keyboard or you are just ignorant! Please return to your own posting, and try if you will, to make sense of your thesis. It is evident that your intellectual abilities have been wasted here. I must say, you are"TOO DUMB TO BE WALKING AROUND IN PUBLIC BY YOURSELF".
Any attempt to respond to this statement will only add fuel to the already blazing fire. As has been said by many in the past, "It is best to keep your mouth shut, and let those around you BELIEVE that you are ignorant, rather than open your mouth and remove ALL doubt!

Ashamed you claim to be, but not ashamed enough to take the *additional* time to double-post this criticism from below, an extra fifteen minutes later?

All these talk of polls and the way the MSM ask questions just mislead the American people whom a lot of us Europeans and many more around the world see as RETARDED. Funny enough I may have to say here that, I really do not believe the American people and the American media are RETARDED, but then when you think that they did vote for Bush a second time; I really start doubting the ability of the American people.
Some times I laugh when the Politicians and the American people depend on their media to tell them the truth. The MSM in America has become the spin machine of the Republican party, because I would not understand why the MSM media would still taunting the myth of Sen. Obama being a Muslim and still end up saying its not true. If they know it is not true, why then ask the American people about it; knowing the American people to be as RETARDED as they are, they would definitely get confused when asked if Sen. Obama is a Muslim or a Christian, especially when it comes from the media whom they thing should know it all. Its just unfortunate that, they American people would end up voting for McCain just because of the MSM, who knew nor even asked questions about the lies told by the Bush administration to take the American Millitary into war in Iraq.
I just wish they could have told their RETARDED county men and women the truth, which was that Dick Cheney wanted Harlliburton to charge of the Iraqi Oil. Have Americans forgot so soon that, immediately after the invasion, the Bush Adminstration Blacklisted companies from any Country who did not take part in the initial invasion? But then the main US Contractor in Iraq and the only Company involved in Oil exploration in Iraq is only Harlliburton and its associates around the World.
    Americans should wake up.

    • Posted By: crymeariver @ 07/12/2008 12:25:07 AM

Perhaps, you should do a little fact checking before you go spouting off. Halliburton is not an oil company. I repeat, not an oil company. They do not drill for it, they do not refine it, nor do they sell it.

McCain has flip flopped on every major issue. He has also lied about how he voted in the past. Now he has come out against social security and his top economic adviser has said that every thing in the US economy is fine as we pay $.4.00 + for gas and food goes sky high. But why worry Cindy McCain has helped the economy by charging $750,000 on her credit card in one month. (Now there is an elitist) end it will be President

I'm sorry but Obama is absolutely right. You can't DRILL your way out of the oil problem. If we started drilling today, you wouldn't see any oil for 10 years or more. As far as nuclear plants, they're too expensive and dangerous. (Do YOU want to live near one the next time there's a terrorist attack? And we have no answer yet on how to get rid of nuclear waste. Coal is too dirty, and finite.

Now that we have that out of the way, what's wrong with things God GAVE us, like the SUN, the WIND, and WATER power? It's all clearn and FREE, and we are dumb enough to continue to drill and dig and fight
wars for OIL. Get smart. It will take time and effort, but millions of "green" jobs will be created in the endeavor to find new sources of energy. This is a challenge, if we choose to accept it. Kind of like "Mission Impossible."

        • Posted By: argo70 @ 07/12/2008 12:23:59 AM

          sedonakaren,

I suspect you're about to be devastated when you read that your Obamessiah came out in support of both nuclear power and coal today. The flip-flops toward the middle continue...

???Nuclear power has a very big advantage, and that is that it doesn???t produce carbons that cause global warming. That???s a big advantage. That???s important.???

???Nuclear offers the advantage of not accelerating global warming. You do identify the problem, though, and that is the storage of the waste. Now, what the science tells you is that there are probably some ways that we can store the interim waste somewhat safely. But, because of the fact that, the way regulations have been set up in this country, and the fact that in the past we haven???t been as careful as we should have been, I think people are understandably suspicious that, you know, maybe we don???t know what happens to some of this storage. Maybe it starts leaking. Maybe it get into our ground water. Maybe low-level radiation ends up being released. And, so, part of what I think we have to do is to get the best experts in the field to develop plans and improve the regulatory guidelines so that they give people confidence enough, that their families will not be affected by a nuclear facility that is located close by; even as we???re working on long-term methods to deal with the storage of this waste. And, I do think that nuclear power is going to have to be part of the mix. I know some people don???t like to hear that, but there is no perfect energy source.

Every energy source has a problem, and even energy sources that sound really clean, like for example hydropower. I was in Oregon, it turns out that it???s messing up the salmon runs, and the fish are being affected. You know, wind is a great energy source except sometimes it???s not windy, and then you???ve gotta store ??? you???ve gotta figure out ways to store it. So, I don???t think we can eliminate any single energy source, but what we have to do???That???s part of the reason I want to spend $15 billion a year. Fifteen billion ??? that???s with a B ??? on technologies to develop clean coal so that we know how to capture the carbon from coal fire plants and not have them, have that carbon released in the atmosphere. Because we got a lot of coal. We???re the Saudi Arabia of coal. If we can figure out how to use it safely, then that???s something we should invest in. Solar, wind, biofuels - all these different approaches we should try and make different investments and figure out what works.???

McBush has a savvy about him. Yes he is scary, but Obama seems weak, and indecisive. That is a little scarier. Iran IS a major problem, as is Pakistan. America should not lay down to them. Especially Iran. Read your history, they ferakin' hate us, and have the straight where 40% of the worlds oil is imported out of. Lay down, and we can get ready for $12 a gallons for gas. Are you rich enough for that? We need to keep it up over there, and I don't think Obama has the spine for that. Just an opinion, of course.

    • Posted By: bigfoot46_05 @ 07/12/2008 12:22:16 AM

SmartGuy; What you've said is exactly why we need to get rid of oil. Just think, what would Iran and it's lunatic leaders mean if we didn't need the oil. We need to put ALL our efforts in removing our dependance on oil.

    • Posted By: TheVigil @ 07/12/2008 12:17:34 AM

Also, we've had a "decisive" leader for eight years who never, ever changes his mind and takes every chance he can to appear "strong", and the very fact that he never changes his mind or changes course has plowed us into the ground on Iraq.

I always find the "flip-flopper" thing a bit funny. I'll personally vote for the man who changes his mind in response to changing circumstances 100% of the time over the man who won't change his mind because it's somehow "weak" to do so.

The weaker man, to me, is the one incapable of admitting error or adjusting a policy to circumstances. I sincerely think it comes out of real, serious fear of not being accepted, not strength.

    • Posted By: TheVigil @ 07/12/2008 12:07:48 AM

We get $12/gallon gas if we invade Iran, and not really under many other scenarios. Look up "Straits of Hormuz"

And Iran hating us has a lot to do with our military alliance with Israel, as well as the U.S. strongly meddling in Iranian politics and propping up the Shah before the Ayatollah took over. I think it's you that needs to go back and hit the history books a bit.

america 's greatest loss is they do not read between the lines. They want a strange and absurd consistency not a real one. Obama is consistent in spirit. Americans only want words that have no poetic content. Obama is far suoerior to McCain in his intelligence, sincerety and his concern for peace for raising families. McCain is a copy of Bush. There is a very fine line between the two. He clearly wants to intimdate and continue war. His politics is thin with no depth. He is also far too old to run a country that demands vigour and energy.

Is it really appropriate for Newsweek to be running banner ads for 'Obama '08 - Join Us' embedded into a purportedly impartial analysis of polling data?? Talk about creating a perception of bias (or is it reality) ... or is the concept of 'arms-length' too much to expect from Newsweek when it comes to Obama??

    • Posted By: TheVigil @ 07/12/2008 12:13:31 AM

I have noticed that, and even though I wholeheartedly support Obama, I can't help but think it hurts Newsweek's credibility. They shouldn't be running political ads, period.

As an independent, I have to make a decision based on who I feel is really ready to be the next President of the United States. My vote is for John McCain, He has the experience needed, The years he has spent n the Political Arena show clearly that he works well with both Democrats and Republicans. His Military background makes me feel safer in a world that has forever changed the way we Americans live.
And if that is not reason enough, then it is also because of his character and integrity. He is the "Real Deal"

    • Posted By: TheVigil @ 07/12/2008 12:04:57 AM

Why did you double-post this from below? Is it that important to you that the "last three comments" visible on the Newsweek board be pro-McCain sentiments?

  • Posted By: natzanej @ 07/11/2008 11:56:46 PM

I'm sorry that I wasted as much time as I did trying to read the postings on this BLOG? Most of you are to ignorant to be writing anything, anywhere! Go back and "TRY" to read your own dribble. It is amazing that you people are able to type?. Your fingers must be way to BIG for the keyboard, or you simply can not spell. I doubt that any of you took the time to review your intellectual thesis before you posted them. All I can say is, you are "TOO DUMB TO BE WALKING AROUND IN PUBLIC BY YOURSELF".

Obama is so inexperienced that he makes major mistakes daily. We already had an alcoholic drug user as president and that is why we are where we are today. Whay should we have another flawed personality cocaine user as president? It can only make things worse. At least McCain has been consistently moderate. The right hates him bu so do the left wingers. Time for some stablity in Washington.

    • Posted By: james1957 @ 07/11/2008 11:14:52 PM

I do not whether you can call Obama experienced or not, since every thing is relative. However, I do know that a person with a low IQ, such as McCain, can never become experienced, no matter how old he is, since he can never learn. Have you ever had a experience of raising a dog?

      • Posted By: TheVigil @ 07/11/2008 11:55:39 PM

McCain is a very smart guy. I oppose his presidency for a lot of reasons, but that's an invalid criticism.

As a resident of the pitiful state of ILLinois, believe me, Obama did NOTHING. And as for his time as a U.S Senator from the state of ILLinois,he has done absolutely nothing during his short time in the senate, except run fr president. So, I definitely do not believe that that qualifies him for the presidency. I think that he has George Soros backing him , otherwise, what would make him think that he could run this country? Obama believes in a socialistic society and I believe that people should get off of their butts and provide for themselsves instead of expecting the government to take care of them. I say NO to a hand-out society. Lastly, as a resident of downstate ILLinois, I will NEVER vote foe a democrat from Chicago. That in itself should say it all!

  • Posted By: argo70 @ 07/11/2008 10:06:48 PM

    Driver of wagons,

Don't quit your day job. The disgrace to which McCain referred is that younger workers, who do their part for society today, will, unfairly, not be rewarded with those very same benefits, themselves, as seniors later in life, which they currently help provide to retirees. Do you disagree with McCain that it is a disgrace that workers under 30 will likely never see as elders the social security benefits they currently contribute into the system?

Gramm was specifically calling the mainstream media and Democratic leaders in Congress "whiners," not the American people. To suggest otherwise is outright deception or willful ignorance.

    • Posted By: raddave @ 07/11/2008 11:45:59 PM

Phil Gramm said "We have sort of become a nation of whiners, you just hear this constant whining, complaining about a loss of competitiveness, America in decline." Unless Phil Gramm is a member of the mainstream media or the democratic leader in Congress, he is talking about the American People.
