of course it is close...you think the media did not learn anything from the obama hillary mess...they made a ton of cash with ratings...so here is what you do, you take a worthless D Bag like McCain, make him seem electable and likable to the nieve morons who voted for Bush and then you have a race...Seriously, how would the media make any money if this race was presented reflecting the actual integrity of the candidates

to vote for bush twice this nation is truly made up of naive morons. fool me once...not me! when bush was reelected i wanted to move... Mexico, hong kong, thailand, didn't matter. you ask why didn't ya? simple, too lazy. my phone and email is probably tapped anyway!!

you all complain but i would like to see you do a better job at running our country.

This entire election makes me SICK! Are these really the best two people our country has to offer? Seriously? Man O Man......we are in much more trouble than I thought!

I still stand amazed at how the media jumps on every chance possible to attack one side, while constantly making excuses for the other side. The bias is so transparent and obviously the media is making no pretense of being netural this time. Remember the good ole days when the media just reported the facts, without presenting their particular slant on everything?

Um, Greengal, YOU are the one who started name-calling, by referring to Birghter America as "Polyanna." If what you meant was that his post was "naively optimistic" well, then, just say so, and leave out the names. Furthermore, his post was neither naive nor optimistic. AND I didn't see anyone holding a gun to the head of the GOP forcing them to become mercenaries for the oil barrons. By definition, all mercenaries are fighting because they are being paid money and not because they have to fight for reasons of nationality or creed.

Brighter America made some good points, which you wish to try to minimize because what he is saying threatens you. So, you call him names, and talk nonsense, and try and draw him into an argument, because you would rather have him getting in a fight with you than continuing to post the truth about the current Republican leadership.

SO, Brighter, since you are new on this blog, you should know that the right-wing reactionaries try to bait anyone who criticizes McCain or the GOP, drawing them into fights so that they stop posting their politically pertinent information. Try not to fall into their trap, just keep speaking your peace and don't respond to them too much, unless they are respectful bloggers who actually want to dialog. There are some good right wing bloggers on this site. Unfortunately, they are far outnumbered by the venom spitting hate mongers, all of whom think they have a license to kill ever since Rove brought his dirty tactics to the GOP.

aliotta, why don't you try coming up with something new? We all know Obama isn't as "experienced" as McCcain, and that is what we find appealing. That's one of the reason why the Obama candidacy is a "new kind of politics." The bottom line is that McCain doesn't want to end the pointless war in Iraq, and that is a position that doesn't really make sense to the average American. On top of that he is good buds with the worst U.S. President in our nation's history, and his economic advisor thinks the recession is just a "mental recession." The McCain campaign is simply OUT OF TOUCH, and not just with the average citizen, but with the new direction in which our nation needs to head.

Wait till they have the debate and McSame has a old folk moment and thinks he is running against Bush.
He will start whinning just like he did when he signed statements and sold out his buddies at the Hanoi Hilton. He will probably start blaming Paris Hilton for his treatment!!!

Why does everyone seem to think that being in the Senate somehow 'qualifies' you to lead that nation. That is a myth! LEADERS that IMPACT others and CAUSE CHANGE in any segment of a society are able to cast a VISION of a better future and give people hope, as well as place the RIGHT PEOPLE around them in position of responsibilty to actually DO the hard work of making that VISION become a reality. POLLS NEVER ADDRESS THE REAL ISSUES OF LEADERSHIP!!

I think we will all have a 'mental' moment after the debates and realize that McBush is too old, too flip floppy and we will have a 'mental election' of an Obama landslide. McCain's book after the election: 'How Could They Not Elect an Admiral's Son?'

      OBAMA'S BOOK."FOOLED YA1 I DONT REALY KNOW ***!"

  • Posted By: Spinner @ 07/11/2008 11:01:12 PM

McCain makes so many mistakes and "misspeaks" (almost daily) and is supported by such mean-spirited and unfeeling "attack dogs" with no conscience, that it's hard to see why he isn't losing more in the polls. His constantly bringing up his military experience is getting a little old too. I come from a military family, but an honorable soldier doesn't keep bragging about his or her service.

  • Posted By: 2 many OC's? @ 07/11/2008 10:56:12 PM

at this point it should be fairly close. then both will bounce from their conventions. Obama's Beatlemania-esque Denver stadium feat will send him in orbit for a while. But when it comes down to election day the electorate will see McCain for what he is, McBush. People will soon realize that McCain as President will be about as stimulating and interesting as a Bette Davis film festival.

  • Posted By: kayce @ 07/11/2008 10:48:26 PM

Give it a rest folks....Obama is our next president. It's going to be fun watching the battling and crosstalk. When the dust settles, it'll be Oba,ma by about 25-30 electoral votes. You can bet money on it....

    • Posted By: aliotta @ 07/11/2008 10:54:07 PM

You bet YOUR money on Obama.See what you get for it.Maybe a free ride.Earn it first !!! then run.fir president. 143 days in the senate. Are you kidding???

  • Posted By: Max Entropy @ 07/11/2008 10:51:39 PM

I think this shows the inaccuracy of the polling data in the first place. The current percentage differential is much more in line with competing polls, than the ridiculous 15% indicated by the same poll last month. I see no reason to think that Obama is actually losing steam. Combining data from all polls (see realclearpolitics.com) shows him to be maintaining a 5% lead over McCain and that has remained consistent for weeks, plus or minus a point or two.

      FROM THE GALLUP POLLING:

80% OF AMERICANS SEE MCCAIN AS CAPABLE OF HANDLING THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF COMMANDER IN CHIEF:

      July 3, 2008
Nearly All Americans Consider Military Service PATRIOTIC

Symbolic gestures valued more highly by older Americans and the less educated

      by Lymari Morales

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Nearly two-thirds of Americans (62%) say serving in the U.S. military reveals "a great deal" about one's patriotism, ranking it second only to voting in elections among six items rated in a recent USA Today/Gallup poll. More than half of Americans (53%) say the same about reciting the pledge of allegiance, and far fewer about wearing an American flag pin.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama spent much of this Independence Day week trying to assure voters of his patriotism, having been faulted during the Democratic primary season for at times not wearing an American flag pin, and for not placing his hand over his heart during the national anthem on at least one occasion. Obama's speech on Monday, entitled "The America We Love," included praise for Republican rival John McCain's service to his country in Vietnam, in response to retired Gen. Wesley Clark's statement that McCain's experience as a Navy pilot and prisoner of war does not necessarily qualify him to be commander in chief.

McCain's service in Vietnam is generally considered an advantage in this wartime election against Obama, who has never served in the military, and a key reason why:

80% OF AMERICANS SEE MCCAIN AS CAPABLE OF HANDLING THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF COMMANDER IN CHIEF:

The Gallup data reveal that Americans do in fact consider military service in general to be a sign of patriotism. While Republicans are among the most likely of all groups to say serving in the military reveals a great deal about one's patriotism, more than half of both Democrats and independents agree. Republicans also tend to place more value on saying the pledge of allegiance and wearing an American flag pin, while independents align more closely with Democrats, who are generally less likely to place a high value on each action.

Neither Newsweek's polls nor the opinions of fear and warmongering Republicans will make any difference in Obama's decisive victory in November. Bush's record of deceit and corruption is too ingrained in the American voter's mind, to allow a third term of the Bush's White house under John McCain. McCain has nothing to offer the American people in terms of solvomg the disastrous economic situation the present administration has created: millions unemployed, 50 million with no health insurance, millions who have been foreclosed out ot their homes; a school system with the worst record on math and sciene scores in the world, the worst environment in American history from profitable green house emissions, and close to one trillion dollars in debt to China alone; money that has been used to pay for the illegal war Bush got us into and that McCain supports.
So forget about questionable polls, that gloating Republicans celebrate. There is no way that McCain, with his strong ties to lobbyists and special interests and to the present White House--is going to solve the huge economic and social problems mentioned above. There is no profit in it for special interests. McCain can't distance himself from their sphere of influence. He may talk about ways of improving the economiy or the environment, but it is only a front for voter's consumption; none of it is true. Special Interest and the oil corporations own McCain. A McCain presidency, which is highly unlikely, would be more of the same.
So, in spite of Obama's so called "filp-flap" on the issues of FISA and faith based initiatives, he is the best choice; in fact he is the only choice.HE IS OUR ONLY HOPE.. On January 20, 2009, the deceitful and corrupt White House will be cleaned out. Only then we will have a reason to celebrate.

Turned his back on our troops on the recent GI Bill Vote, where he no showed and no voted because he was to afraid to face the music and just vote against it...my hero.

I am frankly amazed. John McCain has embarassed himself repeatedly over the past two weeks. His surrogates and advisors have insinuated that Barack Obama is Un-American and/or Anti-American, and called us a nation of whiners. I frankly doubt Senator McCain's mental acuity. Really. I don't understand, and this truly frightens me. sigh.

    • Posted By: ara9557 @ 07/11/2008 10:41:34 PM

Who has created the Un-American and Un-Patrotic problem? Barrack himself! The church that he once belonged was Anti-America and he wants us to believe that he never heard these words. And yes, we have become a country of whiners. Gramm spoke the truth and that is something that is no-no in politics. I am on the other side and say that Obama scares the crap out of me if he becomes president.
