nope, still no bounce! i'm glad to see newsweek finally owe up to their fabricated poll number from weeks ago. I think it was meant to keep obama's averages up in order to hide the down hill slope that would look on all general election graphs. Silly wabbit...tricks are for kids!

    • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 07/14/2008 11:49:33 AM

Cowen, cowen, cowen, you are wrong, as usual. Yep, tricks are for kids. You. I can't wait to read your posts come Nov. 5th the day after Obama wins. But then again after he wins, you will never post on News again because you will be nursing your wounds. btw, did you know that when McCain abandoned his disfigured and crippled wife, he also abandoned his three children? To leave a woman in that condidtion witht three children to look after, is dispicable. Good character.

      • Posted By: cowen123456 @ 07/14/2008 1:30:02 PM

yep, people who are believing in the disfigured wife stuff you are regurgitating on Mccain are the same folks who are trying to buy the Golden Gate Bridge from me on Ebay :) aka, idiots!...something you're familiar with Pia?

        • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 07/14/2008 1:57:01 PM

Cowen, I'm not familiar with being an idiot. I'm so happy the disfigured wife ( you forgot crippled) got your attention. Get used to it, your candidate, the one you praise as having such good character, cheated on his crippled wife. He is worse than Wright. One hundred times worse.

          • Posted By: Zombiehero @ 07/14/2008 3:09:48 PM

Nope have to disagree there. McCain accepted responsibility for his actions. Wright and Obama have not. That makes McCain more of a man in my book.
            Lets compare:
McCain: Admits mistakes and accepts responsibility for them. Both your Cheating and MLK issues you like to talk about now.
Obama: Says that people haven't listened properly (not taking responsibility), Couldn't disown Wright because he was a Uncle yet threw him and granny under the bus to further his political career (not admitting a mistake), and not to mention FISA or the Surge.
Bush: Never admits he is wrong or accepts any responsibility...

Obama is more like Bush than McCain any day.

            • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 07/18/2008 12:12:54 AM

Z, give me a break. Just because McCain admitted to cheating that excuses his behavior? How very convenient, but not in my book. His apologies do not erase his actions. I can't wait to see what the Evangelicals think of a cheating man. He loses in Nov for all the right reasons including his poor character.

Good job Pia. And don't forget that he called his wife now a ***.

        • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 07/18/2008 12:08:23 AM

Thanks chin. I will never forget how McCain disrespects his second wife by calling her that word.

Well, good evening sharenews. I see you are up to your usual 'undecided' behavior posting once again a negative about Obama. Hey, have you posted anything negative about McCain at all? I have not seen any. You support McCain, and this undecided claim of yours, is nonsense.

Hi Pia: We would rather Share dis on the topic of discussion then hearing bigotry like Holymakeral, votenom concerned creap and all the other bigots that roam. At least it is entertaining to the six of us who post under our blog name. Additionally there won't be any idiotic ranting and raving from her. We don't necessarily agree with her points, but at least she is sweet enough to post a reasonable post. There, that was done in one breath. :-)

Hi MuslimsforPresident. I think I am finally figuring out who you are. Is it the case that you are one of 6 bloggers who are bloggers? That is what I think I just figured out. For your comment I thank you. I would like to present the hypothetical question how you and other Obama supporters may have reacted about your much loved and dedicated democratic candidate would have lost. You would of course would have felt a deep felt emotion of disappointment I would assume. By your response to my blogs I think you may feel my pain as if Obama had lost the primaries, how would you and other obama supporters have felt. I think I need not direct that to the 6 of you but moreso to other Obama supporters to understand the effort going on with Hillary supporter orgs to try to make a difference or not in the outcome of the GE. It is a democracy with these groups to strive what they believe in and what ends up being the end result is what it is.

Hi Sharenews, there are six of us who have been best friends forever, and share the one name. We are evenly split guys like Obama, gals like Hillary. We are happy that after living all of us not including children for over 250 years, history has been made this past year. We rejoice that the democratic party has opened up and challenged old ideas. We rejoice that either Barack or Hillary made it to the top two for the democratic party. We rejoice that the glass ceiling has been broken and cannot be glued back together. We rejoice that our country is starting to become interested in politics again, and that voter apathy is not happening so far. We find it amusing watching jib/jab, We find things especially funny that Bush has decided after 7.5 years to start negotiating with Iran the axis of evil.

We are in transition. We have so many problems our great country. Economy, recession, a war that needs to come to a conclusion, housing, gasoline, healthcare insurance, where do you want to start? God only knows.

The three women would love to see Hillary on the ticket, regardless of what you think of Bill. The guys have no preference. We are hanging in there, counting down to the Conventions. All six of us support either candidate, and forgive both Barack and Hillary for some of the dumb things that were said during the campaign. You might say we are partisans. :-)

      • Posted By: sharenews @ 07/15/2008 7:39:59 PM

Okay you convinced me, Pia. I support McCain. After Hillary lost in the primaries I was hoping Obama would grow on me but the more he flip flops on major issues (yeah, so doesnt McCain at times) the more I do not feel comfortable voting for the guy. Period. So you will not be seeing me posting positive information about I guy will not vote for; McCain I at least like, but even him I dont feel comfortable with so basically I feel that I am screwed no matter what. But if push comes to shove I will vote for the one I feel is the lesser of the two. Plus the VP both pick will help alot too for some people.

        • Posted By: sharenews @ 07/15/2008 7:42:06 PM

....lesser of the two evils that is.

as one person posted... "vote McCain he sucks less"

Rember, the lesser of two evils is still evil. Obama should be my choice, but I don't know what or who he is. Please, please, give us more information on him. Was he brought up in Kansas? Hawaii? There are too many conflicting stories about this man for comfort. I need to know more. I still think that the superdelegates {read - sheep) should have supported Hillary Clinton. In fact, until the convention is over, they still can.

  • Posted By: MsSandee @ 07/16/2008 1:56:34 PM

Fading, I think not. I vote as an Independent and I sincerely wanted to give the benefit of the doubt that since this was a historical voting time that Obama would be judged on a level playing field. Senator McCain confuses many groups, countries and decisions on the spur of the moment. I do not see that the television nor magazines giving a fair shake to Obama. It is time for all people to understand that we are all human beings. I now support Obama, because McCain has had supposedly years of experience and it does not show in the delivery of his speeches or his knowledge of the world and it's activities. Would you rather have someone who is on the brink of senility making decisions for you and yours? I think not.

    • Posted By: IELeibowitz @ 07/16/2008 2:28:46 PM

You say that Obama has not been given a "fair shake" by the media. Surely you are joking. The MSM has been positively fawning in the majority of their coverage of Obama, and Newsweek has been one of his most consistent and blatantly partisan cheerleaders. With reporters like Chris Matthews saying that he gets a tingle up his leg when Obama speaks, it is no wonder that even Saturday Night Live has taken note of the almost reverent delicacy with which the press often handles all things Obama in its parodies of the Democratic debates.

As for your remark about Obama being on the "brink of senility," that is simply asinine. You don't agree with the man -- fine. Simply say as much, though, without stooping to an animus against the aged. I am amazed that so many supporters of the Democratic candidate, whose party claims to represent the equality of all Americans amidst their diversity, harbor so much bias about race and age.

      • Posted By: no bigots here @ 07/17/2008 10:21:44 AM

Have you read anything by Noam Chomsky about the news media? Neocon is correct in this case.

        • Posted By: IELeibowitz @ 07/17/2008 11:26:43 PM

No, I have not read any Chomsky, I believe. I looked up a crude and short summary of his theory about propagandistic nature of the media, though, and the "five filters" after reading your comment. The theory strikes me as being useful reminder about the different ways in which news can become distorted, but I don't know that the theory can be universalized in every instance of reporting. It certainly offers, however, a potentially useful tool in analysing news reporting.

So Share how many times have you contributed to McCain's campaign?

  • Posted By: muslimsforpresidents @ 07/16/2008 9:04:30 PM

hey sharenews, how about this one...
(CNN) ??? Planned Parenthood Action Fund is launching a new ad Wednesday in crucial battleground states set to highlight a campaign trail moment John McCain would rather soon forget.

The 30-second spot aimed at women voters shows McCain's apparent unease when a reporter asked him last week whether it was unfair that some insurance plans covered Viagra and not birth control.

"Ever use birth control? Than you'll want to hear this," the ad's narrator states before a flustered McCain is shown saying, "I don't know enough about it to give you an informed answer."

Planned Parenthood spokesman Tait Sye says the ad will run in Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, New Mexico, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Washington, D.C. during television programs popular with women ??? including Wednesday's season premier of "Project Runway" and "Army Wives" on Lifetime. It will also air during Oprah in some markets.

The group is hoping this issue in particular resonates with the broad swath of the women voters McCain is trying to court ??? according to one study Planned Parenthood cites 98 percent of sexually active women have used at least one form of birth control.

The off-message moment stemmed from a comment by a member of McCain???s own team: national co-chairwoman Carly Fiorina, who had said earlier women often express frustration over the fact many health insurance plans cover Viagra but not birth control medication.

A McCain spokesman later said the Arizona senator supported competition in the healthcare industry, presumably allowing women to nix policies that cover Viagra but not their specific needs.

    • Posted By: IELeibowitz @ 07/16/2008 9:43:39 PM

I know that people have a hard time understanding this simple point, but Viagra and birth control are not comparable. Erectile dysfunction drugs correct a diagnosable medical disorder. Birth control does not, because as hard as it may be for many today to understand, healthy human fertility is not a medical disease or disorder. It really is very simple.

Now, if insurance would refuse to cover a drug that corrects a disorder in female sexual response but it would cover erectile dysfunction drugs, you might have reason to be indignant. For the example you gave, though, you don't.

      • Posted By: sharenews @ 07/16/2008 10:40:06 PM

Exactly.Use of birth control is a lifestyle choice while Viagra use is not.

        • Posted By: IELeibowitz @ 07/16/2008 11:08:29 PM

Well, it is a choice whether or not to have sex (another concept that people have a hard time grasping these days), but the underlying condition that ED drugs address makes coitus impossible and thus not an option for the person afflicted by it. The question from a medicinal point of view, then, is "does the drug correct a disease or disorder?" A lot of people certainly regard a woman's fertility as if it were disease, but biologically it is not. Erectile dysfunction, however, is a disorder that makes coitus impossible.

Now, women can suffer from sexual dysfunction as well, and in fact there have been clinical trials that study the effectiveness of Viagra in correcting those problems among women. If Viagra or some other drug is approved for treating these disorders and insurance carriers decline to pay for it whereas they will do so for men, then that would be discriminatory. Refusing to cover birth control while covering Viagra, though, is not, since what they are doing medically is not analogous.

          • Posted By: sharenews @ 07/17/2008 2:04:39 AM

You are very well spoken, IEL. I dont recall seeing you on this site until lately unless you have not been into the Politics area where I have been focused on blogging since the Primaries. Keep up the good work!

            • Posted By: loriw @ 07/17/2008 2:15:47 AM

ditto on the compliment to IELeibowitz. Here is a new perspective on the Viagra vs. BC. I worked for a Catholic hospital and their medical insurance in line with the Catholic beliefs against BC did not pay for BC. While I am not Catholic but was an employee I respected that they held the line on their beliefs. Since I am medically unable to take BC "pills" it was not a big issue for me but other non-Catholic employees were upset that "pills" and vasectomies were not covered.

              • Posted By: loriw @ 07/17/2008 2:22:46 AM

So my point is...is it relevant what McCain thinks on this issue since I don't think the government, in this situation, would be able to force Catholic supported hospitals (and there are a lot of those) to pay for BC as part of their employee health insurance. As for most of the campaign issues there are no blanket or easy "one answer fits all" solution to what on the surface seems to be a question with an obvious answer.
Planned Parent hood is using this clip to suggest that there is such an "easy answer" and truly there is not.

                • Posted By: no bigots here @ 07/17/2008 10:34:53 AM

There is even a bigger issue here, and that is, how many people can up and leave their insurance carrier because of what is being covered or not covered, regardless of state mandates? Are you willing to give up your insurance and take an unreasonable risk to change carriers because of some preexisting condition or because Viagra or BC is not covered?

And what is even worst is that with small businesses it is much easier for the insurance company to drop the business because of one high risk case. There is a lot of repair work that needs to be done. I am not sure if it is the federal government or the states that will ultimately decide how this issue will pan out.

                  • Posted By: loriw @ 07/17/2008 12:55:50 PM

I have a unique perspective in that I owed a small business (retail) for 18 years and before, during and after that I have worked in healthcare as a nurse. It is a broken system but the fix will not be made through national health care. Insurance companies are to blame as are attorneys. Illegal immigration is a huge factor as is unemployment and the welfare system. But, from my perspective the biggest problem is people themselves who refuse to take responsibility for maintaining their own health. We don't have a lack of health care we have a lack of HEALTH.

                    • Posted By: PatiencePie @ 07/17/2008 6:45:04 PM

Ummm ... I would just like to say that going without sex is not fatal (despite what some men may claim). However, giving birth can be fatal. Therefore, it would seem to me that an insurance carrier would have more moral responsibility to cover birth control pills to prevent pregnancies than to cover pills that simply facilitated orgasmic release (for one person). Let's face it: no one ever died from not having an orgasm, but plenty of women have died in childbirth. But I'm not a prude. I say cover both pills and keep the old men smiling.

As I was saying, there are many people out there who regard fertility as a disease...

                  • Posted By: onepoker @ 07/17/2008 6:02:55 PM

you can also choose to purchase your birth control outside of your insurance. It isn't that expensive and contrary to many peoples beliefs you don't have a right to have your lifestyle paid for by anyone.

                  • Posted By: loriw @ 07/17/2008 12:49:21 PM

Actually what happened to us was the opposite. Our small privately owned hospital was purchase by the larger Catholic hospital. Overall the Catholic hospital was very good to us during the transition and in the overall scheme of things they treated us well (didn't fire staff and allowed us to grandfather our seniority).
I am not a fan of Planned Parenthood for a variety of reasons. Anyone who thinks you can get even reduced BC from PP is . My daughter was without insurance while her Army husband was between active duty assignments. She went to Planned Parenthood and the cost of the BC was outrageous. She didn't use them in the end. Now she is back under TRCARE again as hubby is in Iraq now.

                • Posted By: IELeibowitz @ 07/17/2008 2:59:14 AM

You make sense here, loriw, but the reality is that some state governments already force religious institutions to cover contraceptives in their insurance plans even if it is opposed to their doctrines, and bills even have been introduced in recent years (though not passed) in Congress that would federalize this practice. Planned Parenthood absolutely wants the easy answer imposed upon these institutions, and it is not inconceivable that they would get their way with both a solidly Democratic Congress and Barack Obama as president. Planned Parenthood stands to make a lot of money if they succeed in passing such a bill at the federal level, and that is a powerful incentive for them to push for it. If they achieve that goal, it is not too hard to think about what is the next and even more lucrative thing that they would want to compel insurance carriers to cover.

Thank you for the compliment, sharenews. I have posted very infrequently as Ronny2, but I always forget my password since I go for long stretches without commenting. I usually just reset it, but the server kept spitting out error messages at me when I tried to do so a couple of days ago. I created this handle to get around the problem.

This happens to be the longest stretch and the most frequently that I have posted on this Web site. I tend to post in a frenzy for a few days and then stop myself for a while as the mood (or my need for sanity) strikes me. It hasn't struck me yet, but tomorrow may change that. We'll see.

Insurance is a private business they have a right to cover whatever they want. I personally don't like the fact that my insurance company pays for a recreational medication. There aren't many insurance companies that don't cover birthcontrol as it is considerably cheaper than paying for a child. THose that due are often affiliated with the catholic church in one way or another.

As for the 30 second ad, I caught it on the news today. All it shows to me is a reporter posing a question that caught McCain off guard. To tell you the truth I think McCain just hearing the word Viagra threw him a little, never mind being asked a question comparing it to birth control as to them being covered by health insurance or not. But, after an awkwardly pause, he at least didn???t improvise not knowing the facts and honestly answered saying that he was not UP on the subject so to speak (no pun intended). : - D As for drawing in women or pushing any women away, in my opinion that video really wont have an affect one way or another. Think it will fall flat (no pun intended again). LMAO. : )

Oh, good grief, it was made into an ad? I wish it would fall flat, but I fear that there are plenty of people out there who can't make a simple distinction between medicine that corrects diseases and disorders and non-medically indicated medicine that technically induces disorder who will probably swallow the lure hook, line, and sinker.

People should be scared to death of a "snake oil salesman" like Obama becoming president. He's changed his tune soooo many times!!! Where did he come from? What leadership of anything responsible does he have? NONE! The web is crawling with hundreds of things referring to him as the anti-christ - where's Newsweek's article on that??? Start praying people - vote for anyone but the devil.

    • Posted By: profpolisci @ 07/12/2008 2:10:19 AM

You must be one of those right wing nuts. It's ironic you use the term "snake oil salesman". Your using this term to describe Bush and Cheney, right!!!!! You're just a little confused. As far as Anit-Christ that's is right wing rhetorical propaganda BS. Sorry to late but you already voted for the devil, BUSH.

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (CNN) ??? John McCain devoted a substantial chunk of his town hall meeting Thursday to drawing contrasts with Barack Obama on health care policy, stressing his opposition to the presumptive Democratic nominee's health care plan and noting the "great difference" between them on abortion.

McCain's strongest denunciation of Obama came when discussing the Democrat's health care plan, which would cost $50-65 billion per year but would not mandate insurance coverage for all adults, only children.

"My friends, we've seen this movie before," McCain said. "It was called 'HillaryCare' back in 1993, and we're not going to do it again. We're not going to have the government take over the health care system in America."

At a later moment in the town hall, when stressing his own bipartisan record, McCain accused Obama of generally having "the most extreme record of any member of the United States Senate."

People should be freaked out knowing the absolute death of a country it will be with a "snake oil salesman" like Obama - or perhaps you should read scripture to understand he presents as a massive amount of people believe he is the anti-christ. Let's pray to God that McCain wins!!

Obama has painted himself as a religious nut and will lose the moderate vote over that topic alone. Brights will have a hard time voting for him.

    • Posted By: no bigots here @ 07/17/2008 4:04:33 PM

A religious nut, where are you getting that information from? He holds a prayer session one time a week with various religious groups. I don't see why this would affect moderate voters, can you elaborate?

      • Posted By: IELeibowitz @ 07/17/2008 4:30:29 PM

In my experience, most self-styled "brights" whom I have encountered on the Internet are especially militantly strident atheists who tend to regard anyone who publicly refers to God in anything other than derisive terms as suspect, and all believers are typically deemed by them as religious nuts since they countenance faith in anything other than their high priests Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, and Daniel Dennett as a form of mental derangement. Cates may prove an exception to this attitude, but don't be surprised if accusations that Obama prays to the Flying Spaghetti Monster eventually come up.

    • Posted By: IELeibowitz @ 07/17/2008 2:53:38 PM

So, the moderates are all atheists or irreligious? That doesn't seem like such a "bright" grasp of electoral demographics to me.

  • Posted By: sirhc @ 07/16/2008 9:36:02 PM

ISN'T IT CUTE HOW ALL THIS OBAMA DOESN'T HAVE EXPERIENCE GARBAGE JUMPS OFF BUT NOW MCCAIN IS TAKING OBAMA'S CUE ON AFGHANASTAN AND TROOP LEVELS AND NOW BUSH IS SENDING DIPLOMATS TO JUST "LISTEN" TO IRAN AS OBAMA SUGGESTED. FREAKIN HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Posted By: IELeibowitz @ 07/16/2008 9:56:49 PM

Uh, you got it all backwards, sirhc.

Bush has been engaging in diplomacy with Iran through back channels, the UN, and in collaboration with the European Union, Russia, and China before Obama started bloviating about it. Bush has stated repeatedly that he prefers a diplomatic solution while not taking other options off of the table should that one fail. What he has refused to do, though, and what Obama originally wanted, is unconditional face-to-face meetings between the American and Iranian heads of state. Obama has since backed off his insistence on meeting with Ahmadinejad without conditions.

As for Afghanistan, Obama has been forced to recognize that the surge in Iraq did not fail like he predicted. He doesn't want to admit that fact, but his wanting what is in essence a surge in Afghanistan is tacit admission that he was wrong. McCain wanting to have a surge in troops in Afghanistan, though, is no surprise. McCain was a supporter of the surge in Iraq from the time it was announced, and now that the surge is ending successfully, it is natural for McCain want to deploy a surge in Afghanistan.

What is cute, then, is that Obama is subtly shifting his positions to be closer to those already held by Bush and McCain, yet his supporters think that these are brand new ideas that he just came up with on his own.

TO BAD THE IRAQI SURGE WAS AT THE EXPENSE OF AFGHANASTAN WHERE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN.....YOU KNOW....THE PLACE WHERE THE ACTUALL 9-11 HIJACKERS ARE FROM AND WE JUST HAD THE BLOODIEST MONTH THERE.

        4. AS IN MCCAIN ALWAYS WANTING A SURGE IN AFGAHANSTAN I WOULD BELEIVE YOU ..............IF HE DIDN'T SAY THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE JUST A MONTH AGO. NOW THAT'S A SERIOUS FLIP FLOP

Obama Won???t Commit to Event at Military Base

A coalition of military groups is planning a nationally televised town-hall-style meeting with the presidential candidates near Fort Hood, Tex., the largest active-duty military installation in the country. But so far, only Senator John McCain of Arizona, the presumptive Republican nominee, has agreed to attend.

CBS has agreed to broadcast the meeting live from 9 to 11 p.m. Eastern time on Monday, Aug. 11. The candidates would face questions directly from an audience of 6,000 people, made up of veterans, service members and military families from the base.

Heres a relevant story that left me very perplexed....

Mccaina and Obama recently had schedules to meet with a few hispanic organizations on the same day and in front of the same audience one hour apart. Due to this, Mccain contacted Obama and suggested that instead of speaking separately one hour a part, why don't they both stand up on the stage together and talk and take questions from the audience. Mccain suggested that...this way, the audience can compare and contrasts on their positions and ask them the relevant questions that these folks deemed important. Obama refused!

    Why?

Instead of saying that the new poll "suggests white voters continue to be a challenge for Obama" why don???t you write that "black voters continue to be a challenge for Senator McCain?" The way this article is written suggests that white voters that are voting for McCain are doing so due to some sort of racist attitude, while leaving out the fact that over 90% of black voters support Obama. Racist? Perhaps, but it also may be a tendency for people of any race to vote for those of their own race. The suggestion that voters who do not support Obama are uneducated buffoons may also come back to bite the Obama camp who have done such a good job of promoting this image. No one likes to be portrayed as ignorant. I believe that Obama???s star will continue to fade as the election cycle goes on and that this will be a very close race. This should be especially troubling to Democrats, given the current state of the Republican Party. After 30 years of strongly supporting Democrats, I find myself unable to support any candidate this election cycle. The Democrats have one again backed the wrong horse.

    • Posted By: playitfair @ 07/15/2008 3:49:55 PM

Aj Montpeleir makes a valid point about the consistent Newsweek spin about non-Obama voters being white voters who somehow don't like Obama (hint, hint) while ignoring the overwhelming support given to Obama to blacks. 90% suggests something, folks. Newsweek's use of "vanquished" in regards to Clinton may be a bit strong. Since over half the primary voters went for Clinton, the vanquisher has his work cut out for him.

Any racism so far in this campaign has been perpetrated by Democrats. Republicans will embrace a black man as president just as they have embraced a black Supreme Court Justice, 2 black Secretaries of State and a black intellectual writer considered one of the great conservative leaders of our time. Obama is rated the most liberal senator on Capitol Hill--that's the reason most Republicans will not vote for him.

    • Posted By: sjpersonal @ 07/15/2008 1:54:53 PM

just as they have embraced a black Supreme Court Justice

Clarence Thomas are you serious, do you know what an insult it was to Blacks for THEM to appoint that person to replace Thurgood Marshall. Justice Marshall warned Ameica against just this. He said to be careful they will try to just through anyone in my seat. (paraphrasing).

Thomas is a joke and I do not know of any black person that respects this fool.

You should check out the chat rooms on aol.
