In Malaysia students fight for allowing to go to university WITHOUT headscarves, whereas in Turkey students fights for the right TO WEAR heandscarves in universities. It's silly to compare the two. Turkey has been secular for 80 years, while Malaysia is still trying to lay the foundations for a secular state order. In Turkey religion does not interfere in the legal system or the courts, whereas in Malaysia, there are still Islamic courts. Let's not mix things up.

Poor nawawimohamad. You are dangerous. Grow up! The comments from chongyeeyap may have upset you but all you did was abuse him & call him names. Most obviously, you did address or deny any of his charges against Malaysia - maybe because deep down, you know what he writes is true. Malaysia may be good in many ways - my family and I love to holiday there - but racial discrimination is legal there and is enshrined into the constitution. Do not delude yourself. And do not stand up for your country just because it is your country. Otherwise this world will never improve. And I really hope it will, but it will not happen if we do not face the truth and it will NEVER happen if we continue to call people names and argue irrationally.

To chongyeeyap, you can say whatever you want. You are a coward, selfish, self-centred and has contributed nothing to society and in particular to the place where you were born by running away from it. You are only thinking about your own well being. You live in this world just for money, money and money without considering the welfare of others and you own dignity. You have not put in the slightest effort to improve the situation in the place you once called home but instead you ran like a dog with its tail between the hind legs. So please shut your F@#$king gap. I am only replying to your comments to put in some sense in yout thick skull! You are shameless! Australia, this guy is not patriotic to you or to any country in the world and should be deported out after you have squeezed all the juice from him!

Sorry to disappoint you but Australia accepted me; and by the way I was also accepted by Canada for permanent residence. I chose Australia, not because Singapore will not accept because I went to law school in Singapore and my wife trained as a nurse in Singapore, and most of my friends are in Singapore. I chose Australia because it has the best climate and the most wonderful people.
Singapore is fine but it is too hot there. Canada is too cold and it is too far from Malaysia which is my home and I was born and bred there. Contrary to what you Malays claim, Chinese Malaysians too claim equal citizenship with the Malays and it just so happens that you Malays do not understand the full meaning of citizenship; to you "MALAYS OWN MALAYSIA" but that is misconceived because no one community owns any part of Malaysia. If the Malays own Malaysia then why is it that the Chinese & Indians "OWN" most of Malaysia in wealth ?" By the reckoning of your UMNO government Malays only own 19% of Malaysia's wealth, so how can you say that Malays own Malaysia ?
Forget all these talk, but just look at what UMNO government has given to Malaysia ? You have a disfunctional judiciary, a corrupt and useless police and a national economic policy that has lost money in every investment and venture. Malaysia is already not competitive on a globalised world; instead Vietnam. Thailand and even Filipines has caught up to Malaysia. For god's sake even laggard like Cambodia and Laos has caught up to you. TRY AGAIN MAN ! -

Like those who left Malaysia for greener pastures, chongyeeyap is just being self-centred. He has no right to make simplified comments from outside on what actually happened inside. It is because of countries like Australia and the USA who are willing to accept self-centred immigrants that caused countries to be self-centred. Singapore likewise is a self-centred nation and their citizens are individualistics. Those people who really continue to stay in the countries they were born, no matter what the situation is, are better citizens and patriots. These steadfast citizens are the ones who are now making changes for the better in Malaysia. So Mr. chongyeeyap, why did you leave Malaysia and why are you still concern on what is happening in Malaysia
when you are no more a Malaysian. So please shut your gap and let the Malaysians solve their problems. By the way either you don't like Singapore or Singapore would not accept you, thus you are now in Australia. Where would you be if Australia were to reject you? -

I was a Malaysian but we emigrated to Australia in 1978, after the pogrom of 1969 commonly known by the Chinese as ???513??? (13th May, 1969). Believe this fact, at the time of the end of British colonial rule in 1957, Malaysia had 10 million people. There were just a bit under 4 million Chinese, and about a million Indians. The Chinese community was almost at the same level as the Malays; but today after 50 years of independence, there are still about 5 million Chinese and about 1 million Indians in a population of 28 million.
Singapore was a component state of the Malaysian Federation but was forced early because Malay leaders just could not handle Mr Lee Kuan Yew; and I have to say that it was good fortune for Singapore that they were forced out. Both Malaysia and Singapore started at the same time; the only difference was the fact that Singapore had no other resources than the talent of her people. Malaysia had everything, oil, rubber tin, Palm Oil, a country that was twice blessed, but Malaysia did not have what it needed most, an educated middle class and leaders who had vision.
It is a lesson that most developing nation can take with them; YOU JUST CANNOT BENEFIT FROM MARGINALISING 50 % OF YOUR POPULATION TO MAKE A GOOD LIFE FOR THE ADVANTAGED OTHER 50%. IT JUST CANNOT WORK. Singapore works and progresses on the foundation of meritocracy, while Malaysia works (if at all) on the foundation of RACIAL DISCRIMINATION. In Singapore the talented are nurtured to achieve to the best of his abilities, but in Malaysia to get any education at all you will need to be a Malay and you will need to be politically connected. The result is the breeding of an army of useless, inarticulate and half baked ???clerical workers??? fit only to be placed in a bloated Malay civil service.
In a speech that Mr Lee Kuan Yew gave in DOHA, he was asked, what was the single most important ingredient that gave Singapore the edge to make such spectacular success ? He answered that Singapore was blessed with a population of Chinese & Indians. That was the only resources that made Singapore what it is today
