What a bunch of twaddle. Glamorizing 16 year old pregnancy, no matter how rich the mom, is ridiculous. Both of the Spears girls obviously were not raised properly by their mom. They are very sad. Have they no respect for themselves! The whole situation is tragic.

Oh, no ??? a drop-dead-gorgeous, extremely wealthy, insanely popular near-celebrity posing with her perfect baby on the cover of a national magazine ??? how could that glamorize teen pregnancy? That???s just great. Now every pimply-faced, pee-poor, outcast wannabe will not only be popping bar stards to be just like Jamie, but they???re thinking it will get them high as well (the best feeling in the world). Well, sure, when you???ve got a nanny, a cook, a housekeeper, a bodyguard, a personal services assistant, a chauffer ??? yeah, it feels pretty good. Can???t wait to see how screwed up this story will get in two years when the high wears off.

The questions that Newsweek's Sarah Kliff failed to ask are staggering. OK's Rob Shuter keeps saying that Jamie Lnn Spears made good choices -- but he doesn't say what the good choices are. I would argue that becoming pregnant at 16 (although I applaud her not getting an abortion), keep ing the baby, and becoming engaged at 17 (a marriage that statistics give a low chance ot success to), were not necessarily good choices. Shuter seems to think that holding a baby endearingly for the camera, or having a duck lamp, are the same thing as being a good parent. Could he be more shallow? The other unanswered question is: when journalists willfully omit facts -- such as photos of Britney bad choices -- her unflattering "meltdown" -- are they withholding from teens valuable information? the rest of the story, that would be helpful in preventing starstruck minors from copycatting an unworthy role model? Why the censorship? And, is Newsweek's publisher connected to OK magazine's in some way?

Every adult knows that Jamie Lynn is in for a rough stretch. Having a baby so young is not easy. It is not easy to have a baby as an adult. However, it is not going to make things any better for them or the baby if it is visualized as a mistake. The baby is a gift. Jamie Lynn has a long road. Her fiancee is young and likely immature also. Perhaps lending support in the form of good thoughts and prayers is the best way to see all of this

Yeah well if you are a good parent and have effective communication with your "tween" "teen" w/e about this subject. Then your kid won't be so easily swayed. Honestly, media does affect people but that's what family is for. Parents are supposed to be there to point their kids in the right direction and tell them the flip-side to this teen pregnancy story. All the people who blame the magazine are probably idiots with bad parenting skills who can't influence their kids more than a magazine can. And therefore, point the blame at the media. Idiots. Learn to tame your kids..it's not the magazines fault if your idiot child decides to do the same thing. It's called taking responsibility for how you teach and raise your children.

I think all OK did is help promote teenage pregnancy and by putting how great it is to be a teenage mom on the front cover is the worst most horrible thing that they could have done. And as far as Jamie Lynn and her fiance that relationship wont last. I do believe that OK should have put in their magazine somewhere that teen pregnancy is not acceptable. Do they not realize THAT THE MAJORITY OF TEENAGE MOMS ARE NOT POPSTARS THEY ARE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. Jamie Lynn should not be applauded she should be fround upon. She should not be put on another show for teenagers or tweens if she wants to make adult desicions then she needs to act like an adult. For those of you who say if your worried about it you must not be doing a good job as a parent. I am sorry to inform you but the parents that worry about a popstar promoting teen pregnancy are doing a great job. You must just want to raise your childs kids for them. Teen Pregnancy is not something to be proud of no matter what age you are you should be ashamed or yourself for what you are doing to yourself and your child.

I was 17 when I had my son (he is now 15), I had to drop out of high school, I did get my GED and went on to get a college degree. I am currently married and have 2 other children. I think Jamie Lynn Spears woill do the right thing and make sure that baby is taken care of. As far as the story glamorizing teen pregnancy, that has been around longer than Jamie Lynn Spears so no it doesnt glamorize it. Just remember, you don't need just money to take care of a child you also need love.

Drug abuse has been around a long time as well. How bout we find soem crack additct teenage actor and put him on the cover of a magazine with a caption, I am addicted to drugs but i am doing okay. The magazine will spend millions on a photo layout of him or her in a nice house talking about how being a crack addict is fine and dandy, after all, it's been around forever and gee, people should leave him/her alone and let him/her live life and leave the neative comments to yourselves. Oh, and by the way, I smoke crack instead of shoot it, so by not using needles I m not contributing to the spread of AIDS. Just because teen pregnancy has been around forever, and just because JLS has the means to care for a child as a teenager does not mean that the world should sit idly by in an apathetic stupor and be fine with it. The reality is, these stories glamorize her teen pregnancy the same way a story would glamorize drug addiction.

Yes I feel that it does glamourize teen pregnancy because everyone looks and says oh she has money, looks great and has a guy. Well real life 9 times out of 10 the guy leaves a young teen mother to fight to keep that beautiful baby and gets looked down on not hundreds of people hounding her for pictures. I say shame on Jamie Spears for not steping up the bar on her own life being a star.

real"I don't think we pretend for one minute that this story is anything but what it is and I hope what we've done is reflected the reality of the story in a fair way" quote from article. So, you trying to reflect reality included highlighting this girl's hair to make her look almost 30? AND stating anywhere in the article the extreme uniqueness of her situation OR ANYTHING other than "how fun and great it is to be a mom". I am APPALLED but did buy the magazine and discussed with my 9 and 11 year old girls how DEVIOUS the media is!!! Shame on you!!!

The spread in OK was horrible. I do have open ideas and ways of living but would never openly promote teenage pregnancy. I've seen what it does to others.....lots of others. This article goes on and on about the ease of the pregnancy and the easy birth process but the biggest joke was the family picture. The layout in the picture perfect kitchen with the beautiful baby all dressed in pink, and the picture perfect handsome daddy pouring mommy in the white dress a cup of coffee. Please! Instead of paying her a million dollars for these staged photos perhaps OK should have donated that million to an NICU where the money would have covered the medical cost for only about 10 infants. Perhaps they could do a spread about showing how small and undeveloped they are and how they have to have needles shoved in their tiny bodies and have devastaging outcomes like cerebral palsy. Perhaps next month they could do that layout to show what happens when you aren't rich and things don't have the happily ever after ending. That, of course, wouldn't sell nearly as many magazines and after all that is what it is all about. Nevermind social responsibility.

People need to let this girl live her life! It doesn't matter what age you are when you have a baby as long as you act like a adult after the child is here there shouldn't be a problem. She may not be able to vote this year but she is better off then a lot of parents twice and three times her age! Baby Maddie will be fine!!!! If your a parent and this worries you then you must not be doing you job right! Check yourself before you judge others!

Being pregnant is a poor reason to have a baby, and choosing to have sex shouldn't mean choosing to risk pregnancy. Half the comments on this page make it very clear that many teens are going to choose to have sex, and the other half of the comments want to keep those same teens ignorant of anything except celibacy. My parents respected me enough to teach me their morals and values AND to tell me how to protect myself if I made other choices, and I have done the same with my kids. Respect your kids and teach them to respect themselves and to strive for a good future, and they will have a reason to plan ahead and use good judgment.

    • Posted By: callittrue @ 07/19/2008 12:01:54 AM

*gasp!* Being pregnant is the BEST reason to have a baby, even if you give that child to a couple who cannot reproduce themselves. I know that you as a loving mother wouldn't trade your children for anything in the world... no matter the circumstances. Life is PRECIOUS... all of it.

  • Posted By: BULLDOG-3 @ 07/18/2008 11:55:44 PM

Yes her pregnancy does make teen pregnancy look fab when in fact most women who have had a child as a teen regret it. Jamie Lynn has money and will never have to worry about sleepless nights. I have two children of my own and love them very much and I had them 5 years AFTER I was married and it was still not easy. So you Hollywood peope should wake up and smell the coffee because you are sending a message of false reality to all young girls and boys. And the real reality is al that Hollywood cares about is making money and doing it anyway they can and Jamie Lynn Spears is just another way to do it no matter how bad it is. GET REAL FROM INDIANA!!!!!!!!!
