I think that it deals with individuality. I agree with Rob she is not the spokesperson for Teenage Pregnancy she is just providng readers with her experience. While it is indeed understandable the fracas created by this i think that we should stop blaming persons for our mistakes. Its we as parents/family that need to instill strong moral values on our children not Jamie or Rob but us.

OK! Magazine did an amazing story on the birth of Jamie Lynn's baby. They did not glamorize teen pregnancy in any way. I believe the picture depicts a young mother who is proud of her baby as any new mom would be.

UUummm something is missing from this cutsie little happily ever after picture---THE FATHER of the baby.
I heard that they had called off the engagement. My guess is that he hung around because Jamie could support him and the baby on her nest egg from Zoey 101. Where's the front cover photo of daddy holding the baby and stating what he feels about all this...Better yet let's hear him justify how he was having sex with at child! Where is the law in this mess?

There has been a outrageous amount of "new celebrity mothers" on the pages of recent magazines, and I have yet to see one father pose with his lovely new family.

I don't think teenagers are as shallow as most think. With any story breaking with our stars these days, somebody would have jumped on it and told the story. I am only glad that a magazine with such value to truth and getting the story straight took on the big bubble bursting topic og " Jamie Lynn Spears ". Teenagers still learn from their parents and how parents handle life. I am 33 years old and kids in my day were having babies even earlier than 16, it's not a new concept. The 14 year old talking about wanting a kid right now....has a lot of talking to do with their parents. A lot of videos to watch and .....hopefully parents that can take this phase on. Because like I said, parents are still the real teachers. It doesn't stop at 4 or 5 when we are teaching them the basics like.....eating, sleeping, going potty and getting along on the playground. Parents..............GROW UP!!!! Stop playing the blame game. Some adults go through life blaming their parents for their lot in life....then they blame the media for their kids actions or their kids favorite actor or actress or games.......I blame their parents. For not handling the issues they face with knowledge and maturity. If you don't have it....do what you expect your teenagers to do......GET IT!! Stopping blaming the rest of the world. Your teenager is going to get pregnant because you won't be able to handle the issue and you will just jump down her throat and break the lines of communication. Communicate and be open......don't hide the details......they will eigther learn it on their own by reading up on it.....or experience it on their own. You can help them decide which way to learn about it. Hopefully you will help them learn not to experience it on their own, but to patient and let them peacefully know your wishes. Eigther way......you still have the control even though you are not sitting next to them on their first date.

WOw..Nemo77 you have definitely said the right thing about this cover..its a shame that our society is just all about money and thats it. No one seems to care that this is sending out the message that it is ok for teenagers to get pregnant, and like you said they might as well just do other covers that say "no more diet pills just go for meth." I totally agree this sends a horrid message, and any person should agree, who wants more for their child(ren). I have lost some respect for the nickelodeon channel as well as jamie lynn..if shes suppose to be a teen icon she could at least do birth control... I mean really!!...at least get married first..she really needs to send out or say something to young people about her being a teen mother(and that its not ok), and how the best thing to really do is wait until you are married. IF she had any decency she would do that....

I became a teenage mother in my last year of school, I was also the child of two teen parents that 21 years later are still together and making it work. I also have several friends that I bonded with because they were in the same boat. All of us have graduated and are working hard for our lives and the lives of their children. The only one of us that is still living with her parents is doing so because her son has a rare form of CF, this friend also has several health issues herself including a heart condition. Most of us are also still with the fathers of our children. It contiues to amaze me that people who haven't been in our shoes have to make generalizing comments about what a terrible thing teen pregnancy is. Sure it's difficullt, but parenting and pregnancy are difficult at any age. The difference is in the person, and from what I've seem many teen parents become even better parents the people who wait because they have to overcome so much, including social stigma. As for the so called "statisics" I find them insulting, and unrealistic.

My children are no longer allowed to watch Zoey 101 or anything else that Jamie or Brittney may appear in. I think that Jamie is not a good role model and getting pregnant at the age of 16 shows poor judgment!! No matter how rich or well off a "teenager" is, they are not old enough to have such a big responsibility!!!

  • Posted By: brittmuss @ 07/17/2008 6:25:01 PM

I was a teen mom myself and had my oldest daughter at the same age. And i think its great that she took responsibilty for that child and did the right thing. I think that now a days too many parents are for abortion and not thinking about the person who is getting it done. I really think that no matter what age you are either you get the gift of parenting or you dont. Some young parents are way more hands on with the kids than older parents. It really dose not matter as long as she takes care of her kid. I think she will be great!

Ever since the story broke about Jamie Lynn, my children are no longer allowed to watch Zoey 101 or anything else with her in it! I think it sends the wrong message to teenagers.

Ok! Magazine should start a sister publication promoting the use of Meth, Tobacco and Hard Liquor. All geared toward America's Youth!!! Want to lose wait fast? Try the new Crystal Meth Diet. Great for rapid weight loss and after a few doses you will feel great while having unprotected teenage sex!!! These types of magazines make me sick!!!

People that read magazines like this are stupid. I don't care about the Spears family, and the rest of America shouldn't either. I didn't even read this article. I was upset that this is somehow considered news that needs to be reported on. Hollywood is useless. Hopefully, we as a nation will stop caring about these idiots and focus in on our own lives. Teach your children to read books instead of tabloid magazines. One chapter in my Physics book is more interesting and useful than a story about Brittany Spears' little sister's baby.

it is amazing how the medical profession views pregnancy as if it is a medical condition and childbirth as if it is a medical emergency They also view cancer as if it is a disease. Childbirth is a sacred rite of passage and cancer is a condition, not a disease. Both cancer and pregnancy are conditions that have causes that are totally in the control of the person who "gets" them.

Yes, this sends a Horrid message to our teen girls. Oh, look at how happy this child is on the cover of the magazine holding her newborn. It makes me angry. If there is not enough sexual images being forced on teens these days. All we need is some young Nickelodeon star being the center of attention with her teenage pregnancy. Is that not just the most precious thing...Bull#@!*...Thanks Okay Magazine. Anymore american tragedies you'd like to glorify! Maybe you should start a new publication about Dog fighting, or Teen Smoking even better lets start up a new magazine that makes the use of methamphetamines sound great to our children. No more diet pills little Suzy try meth. You will lose weight in record time and feel fabulous while doing it.....AMERICAN MEDIA NEEDS TO REMOVE THEIR HEADS FROM THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR"S ASS!

I fail to see how this is any different than the usual farce that OK! glamorizes to sell their ragpapers.

  • Posted By: Spree1971 @ 07/17/2008 4:08:28 PM

I see she has a job to support the child---"yeah right"
Way to young- To many kids having kids- you can tell by there posts.... im sure they are all financially well off without state aide or there parents.

Famous or not -doesnt mean they are above the norm- if you can buy a home or not. We have seen that with other "fallen" Teen idols- As for Jamie?- she should not even be in ANY picture. What has she really done?

Black White Red Yellow- Kids having Kids is Terrible. And the parents should be drilling it into the heads of these children thats it it not acceptable.

    • Posted By: admcnear @ 07/17/2008 5:58:09 PM

Ok I'm sorry but I do not fit your "statistics" I have never had help for the government, my parents help by being grandparents and doing what grandparents do. they never payed my bills, they've never had to buy anything for my daughter because she needed it but just because they wanted to play the role of a grandparent. I have done very well for my daughter and I and am still continuing my education so she will never have to want for anything.

  • Posted By: blacknamerica @ 07/17/2008 3:59:35 PM

HECK YES!!!! However, let this had been a famous BLACK teen and she would have been portrayed by the media as a disgrace for sure . . . . . and as a black mother, I don't like the fact that any FAMOUS teen is being glorified for having a baby #1 when she's still a child and #2 out of wedlock. And furthermore how many 16 yr old pregnant teenager are able to purchase a new home????

    • Posted By: admcnear @ 07/17/2008 5:54:46 PM

I think yorur comment is way out of line. I don't know where you have been living but here in AMERICA most people do not look at african AMERICANS like that anymore. They would be doing the same story for you as they did for her if you tried to have the reputaion as she does. I was a mother at 16 and I have done very well for myself and my daughter. I am single live in a very nice place and I attend a university. People can become and do anything they want as long as they set their mind to it. It hasn't been a dream life like hers could be but it still has been great and my daughter has never had to want for anything. So I think you need to do some research and maybe clean your act up before you start putting down people that are dark skinned because they all aren't like you.

  • Posted By: monicamexico @ 07/17/2008 4:55:41 PM

I saw the pictures and they completely glamorize teen pregnancy. Both young parents are well-rested, gorgeous, smiling, dressed to the nines, the baby sleeps peacefully, fresh muffins are arranged on the counter and the boyfriend lovingly pours a cup of coffee for Jamie. PLEASE. You should be ashamed of yourselves. You know young women see the cover and scan the article and take away the message that teen mothers are cute, sexy, cool and fun, and it's a "wonderful" thing.

When Jamie crashes into a post-partum depression, I hope you cover that story too.

    • Posted By: loriw @ 07/17/2008 5:53:44 PM

and the false idea that the fathers stick around to lovingly pour coffee. I heard the engagement had been broken off.

Oh god... First there was the Juno movie which advocated teen pregnancy and now this. What has the world coming to?

    • Posted By: loriw @ 07/17/2008 5:52:41 PM

The juno movie showed a girl that struggled with the abortion issue as her parents pushed her to abort. The girl in juno had to make the painful decision to give up her baby for adoption. Didn't glorify teen pregnancy .

    • Posted By: subsidethefears @ 07/17/2008 5:03:34 PM

Excuse me? How does Juno advocate teen pregnancy? Exactly. It doesn't. Juno is a movie with a good example of how you can turn a bad situation into a good one, but apparently you've never seen the movie and are just looking for a reason to complain.

Thank you so much social worker for your comments it makes sense that the world was already a mess why blame little JLSpears for anything or this magazine. I became a single mom at a young age because of a rape someone much older that ran away never to be seen and without anything to trully identify him. He was free out in the world to do the same to someone else. I decided because of my strong christian background that abortion is not an option for me and thank God for the government assistant. My son is now twelve and has been the greatest thing that came out of all of this. It was tough in the beginning but I was able to see me in him and not a rapist because he looks like me and acts like me and I just fell in love with my baby the minute the nurse placed him in my hands. Welfare doesnt really exist but other government programs are out there like child care which allowed me to go to work and college and I was able to provide on my own for my son. The tax break is such a blessing because I dont get child support and I wouldnt be able to make all of my bills if it wasnt for that. God bless the giving heart of America and those that don't complain about it. A note to the rapist :Nathaniel wants to be an engineer when he graduates but not thanks to you.

Coming from a teen parent, who is not a "statistic", I have done very well for myself. I have graduated from high school very high in my class and am continuing my education for a degree to make my daughter and my life easier. Teen pregnancy is something that is very hard to deal with for anybody whether your a teen star or a middle class teen. We have seen more and more teen pregrancies over the last couple of years and it might be a little more comforting to those who are the normal teen or gets pregnant to see someone like Jamie Lynn in the same situation. We all see that there is hope and it could happen to anyone. It's just how we react and handle the situation. Nobody should be offended of any of these articles put out by this magazine. It could be teaching every young teen that it CAN happen to anyone and to be more carefully.
