If this was a black celebrity she would be considered a slut, but because she's white she's looked upon differently. This proves this world is STILL filled with a lot of prejudice. One day God will judge all the haters!!!

Who said anything about race until you did?! Obviously someone has some racial issues of their own...
So this useless bubblehead got herself knocked up!Who cares?
The impressionable schoolgirls who will now think that it woul be
cool to do the same!
Its one thing to do a story on Jaime Lynn and show the baby off and talk about how happy she is, its another to put her on the front cover. I think they could have accomplished the same story and stuck it back on page 6. It is a touchy subject, how do you exactly tell Jaime Lynn's story who is a teen icon, and not glorify teen pregnancy which is an epidemic in this country in my opinion.
God says: you are entitled to your opinion. My opinion is that teen pregnancy is a plan...not an epidemic. Societies need to step up and help out so that the pregnant couple can focus on loving one another and their new creation."
Selfishness is the real "epidemic" in this society.
Yeah kind of, in a subliminal sort of way.
It's amazing to see how many people only acknowledge the black and white in the world instead of including the grey. cruelbuttrue, I hate to tell you, but everyone's experience is different. Yes, you are right that a majority of teen moms have no clue what they got themselves into until the baby is there. There are a few like WifeandMomLovingEverySecond who matured faster than their counterparts and could handle such decisions and responsibility. There is no magic age of adulthood. You don't turn 18 and *poof* you're an adult. And before anyone says it: the laws are written that way out of a necessity for a clear line. How else could they legislate on the matter while mitigating as much potential for corruption as possible?
Yeah kind of, in a subliminal sort of way.
As a middle school teacher, and a father of 4 girls, I am livid. We have had several girls in the past few years become mothers. Some not by their own choice, but many not really understanding what is happening to them. One young 13 year old, came in after the baby was born and asked the counselor how it happened. They haven't been educated. Most school districst won't let us talk about it for fear of retribution by the public, and the parents of these girls aren't usually educated enough to do it themselves. (I know that is a stereotype, but all of the girls in the past two years have fit it exactly).
Several of the people who have made comments so far have insisted that all we have to do is not buy the magazine, but the damage is mostly done by the front cover that screams at everyone from the checkstands of our stores. I have never purchased the magazine, but my 14 year old daughter has definitely seen the cover and read the caption! If I try and boycott the store, I won't be able to buy groceries anywhere because they all have it!
My daughter is 10 and just entering middle school. She has seen "zoey 101" and she actually still watches it sometimes. She has also seen the cover and read about Jamie Lynn online. She doesnt want to go out and have a baby. She wants to finish school and go to college.
1 out of 10 pregnant teens become successful and great mothers. Opinions are great but in a sensitve subject like this is when the facts really weigh in and dominate the opinions. The other 9 nine babies are stuck in an ugly situation because teen pregancy is shown to be OK! So is it wise to keep your child and be another statistic and endager an innocent child? Look at the FACTS and not at opinions!
Another valid point, so many people are focussing on the fact that these girls are seen as role models. That is partially true, and I agree with that for the most part. I also am not dumb enough to discredit the fact that a large portion of modern society aren't good role models. Even in a church setting, you have trash walk through the doors on Sunday! It isn't exclusive of celebs. If parents don't think someone is an "approriate" role model, they are not forced to subject their kids to the stuff. They are 100% in control of what their kids are prevy too, and what influences their kids. Blaming the media for it all, is just one more thing an irresponsible parent would do.
I think schantelle is missing the point. The argument isn't about supporting a teen parent and their child, but rather is the article sending a message that it is okay to have teen sex and if a child should get pregnant, that's okay too, because Jamie Lynn was pregnant and it turned out fine. I worked with teen moms and their children educating them on how to be parents. Not one of those mothers was in the same situation as Jamie Lynn. All were unhappy and miserable because they had so much responsibility at a very young age and were doing it on their own. Only 2 in 50 girls had the father of the child stick around and help. They gave up their own childhoods because of their choices. Let's not encourage more young girls (as well as boys) to make the same decision.
Ok, the act most likely took place in California and their law site was a little too much for me to find the specific laws; however, Lousiana defines a child in these situation to be any person younger than 18. If she got pregnant near home, it was statutory rape. If it was in California, good luck in finding the answer.
I think everyone needs to realize the girl is in a stable relationship, and had purchased a home to raise the baby in her home town. I don't see where it's glamorizing much of anything except the fact that not all women have to turn into nasty looking overweight slobs when they have a baby. The assuption of "trash", "ruined life", "she's only happy because she's rich" ect. are all the epitomy of ignorant statements. I myself got pregnant BY CHOICE at 17, then moved 2200 miles and my husband and I got married. We'd been together close to 3 years prior, and did our traveling, and our "fun" stuff. We'd been researching realestate for years, and bought our house on an acre of land 2 miles off the lake!!! Purchased at 99,900....(not rich), we are able to pay our bills with a 500-1000/mo left over income. I get to stay at home and raise our kids...not push them off on sitters or nannies. I am now 21 with 2 kids and 16 weeks 6 days with our third and last baby. The kids are all happy, healthy, well taken care of, intelligent kids. So I'm wondering how many of you people talking crap, CAN'T PAY YOUR BILLS, AND ARE NASTY RODE OUT BITTER PEOPLE!? Because considering I have been with my husband for 7 years next March, and married 4 years next month, done great, am still doing great, bought my home at 19.....who'd like to step up and TRY to compare!? Some of you need a reality check, and to wake up and realize the ignorance flowing out of your mouth! It's profoundly pathetic, to make assinine assumptions about these young girls without knowing anything at all about someones situation. You have just as many trashy worthless older parents reeming the system, and all of what is said about a young mom. Thats a fact, a well reasearched one. Educate before you make idiots of yourselves in the future. SOME young moms are terrible, common sense. Just as SOME of them are exceptional, and doing just as good or better than the older counterparts that are so quick to cut them down. Good Day.
I did finally look up Texas state law. Isn't that where she is from? In Texas, it was statutory rape by one year. At 17 it would have been legal. I'm starting to doubt my memory on where she is from though. She's not from Louisiana is she? I forget.
She's from Louisiana.
No, she is from Lousiana.
About that comment at the top.... taken at 8:22am...
You said "Most teens have to go it alone" well, that's where teen girls mess up!! They should've thought about that and WAITED to have a baby until they were ready!! Teen girls don't think about that! They're just like "Oh I want a baby! It's so cute to be pregnant!" That's so stupid! That is their OWN FAULT for not thinking things through clearly. There's two things you should think about before you get pregnant, 'do you have money to support yourself and your child?' and 'are you really ready mentally to take care of a baby and raise a child?' That's it!! I'm so sick of people complaining that teen mom's aren't lucky enough to have money, a house, or a car even, or money for essentials... that's their own fault. For not waiting until they knew they could support themselves. As for Jamie Lynn having her house payed for.... who cares! She's got plenty of money, she just can't touch it yet! Do you really think that matters?! How do you know her PARENTS didn't take Jamie's money out to get her that house!? I'm done!!
I got pregnant at 16 and did not plan it. Most of us do not. It is the abstinene only education and attitudes like yours in the adults that support teens that leads to teens getting pregnant or worse because they were not taught to respect their bodies and always use a condom!!!! Nobody's perfect
I read my comment and made a misnomer. What I meant is that the idea that teenage girls plan on getting pregnant is getting in the way of preventing teen pregnancy, not that your attitude was bad, I have read your other comments and completely agree that people are getting way too angry about this. All Jamie Lynn did is cause the media to bring up a subject that is sore for many people because teen pregnancy is wide spread but widely ignored.
Society seems to be in a cycle of continual glorification of pregnancy and having children. In spite of the seemingly obvious fact that almost all of todays major problems are made worse by the continuous population increase! I would much prefer to see more on "Stars" personal improvement and development. More articles on celebrities getting sterilized, or deciding and recommending sex without pregnancy.
This is the way that God views Teen Pregnancy: "I have made teenage girls especially attractive and glowing to broadcast the phenomenon that these are their peak firtile years. The "raging hormones" are consciousness altering and make teen girls sexually curious and eager for the purpose of conceiving a child. It is up to the adult members of her family to guide and support...in ALL ways...this miracle of life.
things like this really make me mad, why isn't teen pregnancy ok? because teens are young and have their whole life ahead of them. well let me say something im 19 and had my little girl at 18 and i dfont agree with the people who say teen pregnancy isnt ok,.. of course their some teen pregnancy that isnt ok but labeling it all as not ok isnt right. im a good mom and i take care of my baby im sure theirs other teen moms who do same. theirs older moms who dont take cre of their kids and who arent ready for one, but do we say older aged pregnancy isnt ok? no we dont!
This is the way God looks at teen pregnancy:
Teenage years are peak fertile years and peak years for sexual interest. I have made teens exceptionally attractive and glowing in those years to broadcast this phenomenon. Teenage hormones are especially
conscious
I was only 15 years old when my first child was born. I am a successful mother at the age of 19 now and I would not have changed my life for the world. People today believe that a teens life is ruined at the very thought of having a child so young. Your problem is not in the child but in the adult who criticize them. I do not think that every teen should have a child young, but I do think that teens can mature faster with a child.
Yeah, she got pregnant. That was her decision to ruin her life. Not everybody's going to follow her example just cause it was on the cover of a magazine. I mean, the only reason she's not freaking out over this whole thing is because she's rich! Plain and simple. She doesn't have to worry about school, or food, or housing, or cars, or none of that stuff because she's got money. But for most teens these days, it wouldn't happen like that, because most teens don't have a million dollars!!
