I believe it does glamorize teen pregnancy. Though it is great to see that she and her baby are doing well, I think teenagers will see this and think that everything would go the same way for them if they had a baby, despite the fact that she has wealth, fame, and the media to make her life look any way desired. Maybe this would be an opportunity to instead of beautify her life as a new teen mother, inform teens about pregnancy and how to prevent something like this from happening to them.

i do not agree that teens shoud be mothers but not cuz they could not handle the stress NO i think a girl or better a you woman should be able to do somthing in life. jamielynn is stable money wise so why not leave her alone and yes the media is that what kills people and how people think of stars. jamie rase your baby and be there for it as muches you can it is very importand to be there for a baby. hold it as often you can feed it bathit dont let the naabbys take over mommys are

Yes it does. We're talking about the cover here, so the content is irrelevant. The visual impact of the cover is that of a financially successful, attractive, well-rested and happy-looking teenager holding her baby. And she's telling every girl who sees the cover, how great it is.

I think this totally disgusting to behave like this. Still a child herself and then having one. Shame on her and her mother for not discussing birth control or for not having sex at all. I work at a place where I see this kind of thing going on everyday. There is enough birth control out there. But not doing it is the best one. Where are young girls morals today. If Jamie Lynn can do it so can I-great role model. Trudy-Utica,NY

A few things: 1) Clearly, this, and by that I mean "all this," is not about Jamie Lynn at all... and more importantly 2) I just have to laugh out loud when I read comments from people who say they abhor judging others and oh by the way, Jamie Lynn is so great because she had this baby. What would you say if she HAD received an abortion? Would she still be a great girl who's just misunderstood (because you know guys, we shouldn't judge)??!! A lot of the people who are claiming they don't judge others and who are telling others to mind their business are also clearly anti-abortion, and I think that is pretty interesting... Those of you who feel that way I certainly hope that the next time someone (perhaps a celebrity or just a girl from your high school) DOES have an abortion you simply take your own advice and mind your business!! and finally 3) just so you know, "God arguments" of any kind are extremely weak and have limited validity since many people would not consider "God" an authority on this or any subject... regardless of your particular faith, hopefully you have enough intelligence to realize that faith-based arguments will only get you so far - if you want to convince people of your way of thinking, you need to search elsewhere for a foundation to your reasoning...

Boy, are you ever confused! Prime example of America's thinking today. God should always be #1 no matter what, He is in fact the reason we are here at all, and I'm sure He doesn't appreciate being left out. He is the most powerful and the Creator of our Universe (including you), so no, in fact faith based comments are NOT weak.

      • Posted By: ArielBLaw @ 07/18/2008 7:39:05 PM

But see, all you did here was prove my point. First of all, I never stated what I personally believe or don't believe, so you can't make assumptions. And that misses the point too -- the point is not about faith, it is about how we debate and what arguments are effective. All you did here was lay out your own beliefs: "God should be #1....He is the most powerful and the Creator" etc. Those are statements of faith; however, they are no argument. This is the problem I see. OK, so a lot of people who share your faith are going to reply with an "Amen, you said it," but I suspect those are not necessarily the people you are trying to reach the most. The people you would like to reach may not share your particular faith, so simply summing it up for them is no way to convince them to think like you. Again, this is about how we argue, not what we believe.

Yes it does, and I usually am not the one to judge. But there I was standing the grocery store checkout line and their was two young ladies behind me checking out the cover, they look to be 13 or 14 years old one say to the other " oh that so cute she has a new baby and she is married , the other girl goes no stupid she not married she just has a baby, the other one was like I want to have a baby and me and the clerk look at each other in total disbelief. When the news first hit she was pregnant I was like leave the young girl alone and now I see younger teens thinking baby are some new cool accessory. It's like an advertisment for teen to get pregnant I'm so against the cover of the Magazine.

I'm not surprised by Jamie Lynn's cover comment at all. What should we expect her to say? Would it make the public feel better about it if she appeared haggard with her hair mussed and black circles under her eyes holding a squawling baby, complaining of depression and acknowledging that she made a mistake? She's in it now and a little decorum is in order, I think. As far as glamorizing teenage pregnancy, I think all media spotlighted pregnancies are glamorized. I've had five kids and I always tried to look my best and put a positive spin on all the chaos, because motherhood is hard no matter who you are! And (to quote Jamie Lynn) it's also "The best feeling in the world!"

I'm not surprised by Jamie Lynn's quote on the cover. What would anyone expect? Should she appear on the cover with her hair mussed and black circles under her eyes, claiming how depressed she is and that she made a mistake? She's in it now, so a little decorum about making the most of it is in order, I think. As far as glamorizing teenaged pregnancy goes, I think the media glamorizes all star pregnancies. Having had five of my own, I always tried to look my best and feel upbeat, but the reality (teenager or not) is that motherhood is hard work. And, to quote Jamie Lynn, "The best feeling in the world."

so you're saying that you regret that your mother had you very young.....*** idiots.

Its very easy for everyone to judge, but has anyone been there because if you havent you have no right to say anything I was a teen mother and I still have both of my sons today there are people out there older than I was that do not. It doesnt come down to Jamie Lynn or anyone else on the cover of a magazine, that is our problem now days we always have to have someone to blame we are to blame for what we do. I would not go around telling girls to get pregnant but if its that big of a deal that she is a teen mom talk to your children dont let them watch the show This is life people I know we dont want to face reality but this kind of thing does happen in real life not just movie star world who is to judge her and why are little kids reading adult magazines Ive read those magazines and some of the things in them are not for me either. It doesnt matter what I think or what anyone else thinks but as long as shes a good mom I say let her worry about being a teen mom and if you have kids then you worry about what there doing

this is just the most BS thing to glamorize...there are couples who are childless and spend thousands of dollars to have children, and are in successful relationship in their own rite; yet, you plaster a child who literally had unprotected sex with the 'lights on', and now...stealing from Disney, it's a whole new world. It amazes me when People magazine Said that "Oh my God Kevin Federline had another child with Shar Jackson, the mother of one his older children 'because of unprotected sex', as if he had contracted SARS. Your (ok) issure goes on about Jamie Lynn and her 'fiancee' and what a beautiful thing it is--because she on became a household name because of her sister, and doesn't have to pick up any WIC checks....What is that about? Basically, when people who are not superstars are impregnating each other, the news says they're littering the earth with more children like sunflower seed shells. But the stars, who can't get or stay married long enough for a street light to change, it's the IT thing to do.

that qoute on the magazine "being a mom is the best feeling in the world" is in some way wrong what happened to all the pai,the stress, and fatigue of being a mom. some people suffer from depression after there babys birth okaii its nice to have a baby and all but still get real think about the facts . i always thought of the paprazzi as affecting the stars but not the people they are twisters of words slimy little ingrateful people who are sent to *** up this world.as if we didnt have enough *** problems

  • Posted By: texrose @ 07/18/2008 5:07:51 PM

you are glamourizing what is an epidemic in our society. What 16 year old single girl can afford to support herself let alone with an infant. I don't know why rape charges were not filed as she is not of legal age. This is a sad situation and I think Disney should take her off Zoey 101.

i dont think shes sending a good message out there she has so many lil kid fans out there and know after all the pressures girls have out there they'll want to get pregant because thecoolest star did i think she should have thought before doing wat she did she knew that would impact so many people and that young people were watching her every move. i do think she will be a better mom and all but what ever . this is very important girls now a days think they have no chances of getting pregant but they do so what happens when they do and the father cant step up to do it they will be left scared for the rest of there lives thats without out knowing but think now that they want to do it just to have a baby because the next big teenage pop satr is doing it check into reality non pop stars dont have the money to pay for there babys stuff and stars really dont go to school non stars have to so thet can get to where threr planning to go to having a baby will deprive you of that espically at a young age also taking car of a baby when you are growing out of being a baby so i think that they should ask jamie lynn the pain she went threw, the things she lost for being pregant. i guess no one sees her as a fun little teenage pop star they see her as a teenage pop star mom . and people say what a bad example for my young daughter that doesnt give her the privallge to go off and have sex and have a baby when she becomes a teenager. then there moms to take care of the babys and the fathers arent there cus they dont want to admit there the father of the child so then they feel guilty they even did it and is left out of school without a job and without real responsibility of that baby

sa_Houston: you are a sad, sad individual. People make mistakes - and clearly you don't understand the media. Celebrity [mistakes] sells copies. Period. Go put your head in the sand somewhere else. .
    pS: No, I

JMJ2008...... Sorry you think I'm a sad individual. I'm actually a very happy individual. Did you (if you can) READ the topic line? Here it is: "OK! magazine's executive editor discusses their cover story on 17-year-old actress and new mom, Jamie Lynn Spears. Does the spread glamorize teen pregnancy?" This debate is supposed to be about the magazine and whether or not it went too far. We know Jamie Lynn went too far. My head's not in the sand, holmes. Your head is up your a**. Peace out.

      • Posted By: JMJ2008 @ 07/18/2008 6:51:11 PM

Hi sa_Houston: Thanks! I've had a long day and seeing your ramblings made me smile. PS: Yes, I read...and I was a magazine editor myself, so I completely understand the logistics behind the OK! Magazine cover story. Remember the old adage: There's no such thing as bad press. Well...prime example.

BTW: If I were a contortionist, perhaps then my head WOULD fit up my ass. But thanks for the laugh.

  • Posted By: JakeB @ 07/15/2008 11:17:53 AM

To put her on the cover is nonsense! Just because she has money, doesn't make it right. There are already other girls in one school that made a pact to get pregnant and they are all under 16. The "daddies" are over 18 years old and one is rumored to be a homeless man! Lynn Spears is a joke, trying to write a "parenting" book when her two daughters are such failures in "real life".

    • Posted By: miss.zar @ 07/18/2008 6:42:07 PM

amen! i could not have said that better myself. jamie is an idoit, thinking that being a mom at 17 is alright she does not have a clue about the real world, girls who have a kid at 17 drop out of school and live on walfare and foodstamps.

  • Posted By: march26baby @ 07/18/2008 5:15:25 PM

I think that it is great that they put her story on the front page. I got prego when I was 16 as well. It is good to know that young mothers are not always frowned upon. BTW it isnt the young girls faultgetting prego n such. If parents would teach and raise their kids right, this would not be an "epidemic". But I agree with Miss Jamie, being a mother IS the greatest feeling in the world, no matter how old you are.

    • Posted By: miss.zar @ 07/18/2008 6:38:19 PM

wow u told some one that they are un educated and they dont know what they are taliking about? yes jamie is not on walfare becuase she is a famous hollywood star, not everyone is a hollywood star there for they drop out of school to be a mother. your a young mother? and honestly did you finish school? and if you did i bet your mother took care of your kids and not your self. and if your not on walfare if having a child at 16 either your family has money or you still live with your mother. having a child at 16 just shows how un educated and in mutre your were,i mean you should not be having sex at 15 and 16 years old, sex is about love and not about fun, i am 17 and i would never risk my whole futre for a night of fun with some guy or even if it was my boy friend. so i disagree with her being on the cover, my mother had a child at 15 and her doing that she had no education so my family had to live a tuff life, like i said not everyone has hollywood money and i bet jamie will have her mom or a nanny rasing her kid.

I think that Jamie Lynn will be a great mom, and Jamie Lynn is a down home southern girl, and really they have and are taught a good set of vaules, that goes for Casey as well. All I have to say to Ms. Jamie Lynn is just stay out of the spot light for a while (learn for your big sister's mistakes) Go back to work when you are ready, and only when you are ready! Stay to true to your self and YOU and CASEY raise this baby, don't let the media run your life! That is the only way that this baby and yourself are going to be truely happy!! Best of Luck!!!

being from louisiana also i dont think that being a southren girl will make her a good mother, in fact jamie lived most of her life in hollywood and not in louisiana, and i agree with the comment below me work? no she needs to get an education and be able to provide for her child, hollywood in not a for sure job for the rest of your life.
