I think it's a ridiculous statement to say this glamorizes teen pregnancy. She's telling HER story, who made you judge and jury on what is right or moral? If she was going on about how hard it is people would be in an uproar that she can't handle it and to get the authorities involved. Teens get pregnant, always have, as it was pointed out, they used to be shipped off. This is just one girls story, go worry about what your kids are up to and stop passing judgement on others.

But can't you see that its because of role models like her and the media that transmits her image, pre-teen girls everywhere will have the desire and even the "green light" to have premarital sex and out of wedlock children.

  • Posted By: MommyOfTwo @ 07/15/2008 8:42:05 AM

Maybe by putting this on the issue, it will bring awareness. Some young girls might decide not to have unprotected premarital sex because of this.

      or premarital sex period.

Abortion does not stop a beating heart. I hate when people insist on this. Usually if you have the abortion early enough, there isn't even brain cells created. Now, for my opinion on it, I don't think anyone should have made a fuss about it. If she wasn't a celebrity, had money and all that, everyone would think she's just another teenage slut who will amount to nothing. This just helps corrupt the minds of teenagers.

    • Posted By: katamata5859 @ 07/15/2008 10:06:15 PM

Do your homework on abortion before you comment on it.

    • Posted By: jamiegregory @ 07/15/2008 9:40:36 AM

Just because someone becames pregnant as a teenager DOES NOT maker her a "slut that will amount to nothing." I was raised by a teenage mother. She and I both have wonderful careers and are very successful. She is a woderful mother, who has taught me more than any one else could ever have. It is not up to you to say what they will amount to. It is up to the individual and if you have the drive to become successful....then it will happen!! Don't count someone out just for the simple fact they have made a mistake. I mean really........like you have never done something you shouldn't have! We live and learn. That is what life is about.

  • Posted By: sharp18 @ 07/13/2008 9:54:37 AM

I don't think it's a good article to glamorize a teen pregnancy, illegitimate birth, and not being married. This sets a truly bad example for teens who don't have sister Brittney's cash flow, and utlimately become wards of the state becuase they will be on state assitance, and will probably be raised without a father. This is a truly irresponsible story brought on by irresponsible teens who have never been taught moral values.

Or how to use condoms! Or that they'll fail anyway despite their high success rate.

I hated the movie Juno, but I seemed to be the only one. I knew the ramifications of how cute teenage girls everywhere would think how neat it would be to have a baby. Jamie Lynn didn't help with her morals, either. Grandmas and grandpas are all in for a treat when their teenager wants to go out with her friends who don't have babies. At least she'll be bringing home a brother or sister for her first one. And the beat goes on.

    • Posted By: Sachiko1776 @ 07/15/2008 5:38:42 AM

Well, at least she didn't want it in the first place and only didn't abort it because the waiting room at the clinic drove her insane.

When wiii America stop wahing her dirty linen in the public. The moral degeneration in "God's own country"? that announces scandalous and shameful behaviours in manner that are nauseatinh, all because of modernization is highly condemnable. Whereas this kind og thing goes on amond ordianry teenagersin the US everyday without notice. Its celebration when supposed "stars" are involved is a testimonial of a nation in decline!!

    • Posted By: Sachiko1776 @ 07/15/2008 5:40:39 AM

          HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRR KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.

  • Posted By: Sachiko1776 @ 07/15/2008 5:27:20 AM

I think this is an excellent example of how abstinance only education has failed this country. Maybe if the girl had known or bothered with a simple condom and some lube, this wouldn't be happening. It's too late now. I hope she didn't keep it because it would unconditionally love her, because it won't; if she wanted unconditional love, she could have gotten a dog. But then again, I don't know that, so who knows the real reasons she had the kid and didn't abort it.

    • Posted By: worriedchap @ 07/15/2008 5:46:25 AM

have yuoever had of condom-failiure?its not about absinence education failing this country but how morally bankrupt our community is become. perhaps a better value for life and genuine desire not to punish an innocent baby for her own act of irresponsibility made her keep the pregnancy.

      • Posted By: C.A.R. @ 07/15/2008 6:07:32 AM

NO! I don't think she (Sachiko) did have (or ever will) condom failure!!! Or, ANYTHING closely related to it! LOL.

        • Posted By: Sachiko1776 @ 07/15/2008 8:21:37 PM

I'll just abort it then... and send you the remains... or kill it and send you the remains... whatever the case, you'll get a free baby!

      • Posted By: Sachiko1776 @ 07/15/2008 8:20:16 PM

I have. Moral bankruptcy my ass! Every new generation is morally bankrupt according to older generations, Abortion punishes no one because the fetus can't feel a thing and isn't even self aware within the 3 months abortion is legal. Abstinance education fails... please explain the higher occurances of teenage pregnancy this lately.

That's nice to know you think babies make great punishments! I value life by aborting any accidental pregnancies I might have because that thing will be dead in my care.

  • Posted By: PRAISE @ 07/15/2008 4:59:13 AM

It is not not a good thing to be proud of by her been very of be coming a mom.In a way i dont blame her because if it 's some teens today they will prefer to abort the baby them giving birth to it .We should not use modernization to spoil the up bringing of children, because what so ever we put in them that is what they will give to their yet unborn children we should train them in way they should go and when they are old they will not depart from it.

    • Posted By: Sachiko1776 @ 07/15/2008 5:30:44 AM

What's wrong with abortion? Nature and/or God (if you believe in him) make women abort all the time, it's called miscarriage.

RIDICULOUA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Teen pregnency is not ALRIGHT!!!!

  • Posted By: loriw @ 07/12/2008 4:53:10 PM

I really worry about copy-cat pregnancies with all the press on celebrity pregnancies/births/babies. It is especially worrisome when the focus is so great on such a young mother. The average age for a mother in the USA is 18 yrs old, that means for every career woman that waits til she's in her late 20's or early 30's or for those that have the late/surprise baby there are a lot of very young teens on the other end having babies to create the average age of 18. These mothers won't have a "nest egg" and won't have nannies and many may not even have the support (emotional, financial or physical) of family. Resources in the community are limited even in large metro areas and are harder to find in rural areas. It often becomes a cycle, teens who are the children of early teen moms are more likely to have early pregnancies themselves and the cycle continues. There is a new program on NBC called The Baby Borrowers. It is an excellent program for showing teens what really happens when a teen becomes a "parent". These teens experience not only children at all ages/stages but also what it is like to have to take care of an aging "parent". If you haven't viewed this program on Wednesday evenings I highly recommend that you watch it WITH your children and teens. Personally I would like the show to be a requirement, to be viewed at the freshman level in every high school in America. Teens don't often listen when parents and teachers tell them about life but in this program they see "peers" struggling with the reality of babies/children/teenagers. Juno I don't think totally glamorized the pregnancy/baby issue- in the end Juno gives her baby up for adoption and she struggles with the abortion question and choosed to carry the baby. I've seen far worse messages played out in the entertainment media.

    • Posted By: angelus1967 @ 07/15/2008 5:04:29 PM

No nannies?!?!? Oh my goodness! Whatever will they do??

    • Posted By: whitty @ 07/15/2008 11:14:35 AM

i have to say i love the baby barrowers but what you also dont realize is that they are given other peoples children. they dont know everything about them and their personalities, they are only given a couple of days with them and then they give them back and go on to the next age. i do not believe that every teen should go and have kids but face it its going to happen any ways and it has for years and it continue that way.but how can you say that a teen who gets pregnant on accident is any worse then those people who are in a bad relationship and try to fix it with having children. nobody is perfect and things happen in life for a reason so if you are grown up enough to have sex then you are grown up enough to take on whatever happens as a result from that.

      • Posted By: KatKitty074 @ 07/15/2008 11:40:44 AM

Hey Whitty! I like the show "BABY BORROWERS" too. What these kids don't realize is that, they can give these babies back to their original parents, BUT, when you have a baby yourself, you can't give that baby back!! Notice on the show how the guys are a bit more tolerable than the girls??

  • Posted By: sick of liberal nonsesical thinkers @ 07/15/2008 11:44:29 AM

Absolutely, its a bad example for pre tenns or any teen for that matter. miss jamie lynn can afford to take care of this child, now the children that are having out there in the REALWORLD ..... can't! . This is a moral issue and no amount of sex education in school has been able to stop or slow it down.and of course we have the media s influence on this. on the onehand they bombard kids with all this sexual imagery, and on the other they give some lame meaningless advice on how to be careful. So we have uneducated teens with no future. And the clincher is that here is were the domino effect kicks in poverty children w/no fathers and so and so.La di da.

    • Posted By: judgejudy @ 07/15/2008 5:01:03 PM

Before the neanderthals wrested away control from responsible adults, and schools did teach sex education, the teen pregnancy rate DID decline. So there! Sex education, while it shouldn't be a child's only source of information about how to avoid unwanted pregnancy, DOES work. No matter how badly you and yours want it not to. Teach your own children whatever you want. But my children are not your business.

    • Posted By: jwwsu @ 07/15/2008 12:08:33 PM

The conservative nonsensical thinkers who assume abstinence teaching is going to have the least effect on kid sex are probably still looking for WMDs in Iraq. Get real, pal. Kid sex is a human condition having nothing to do with right, left, red, blue, liberal, neocon or anything else beyond human nature. You can politicize it all you like and kids are still going to have sex and babies. Get over it. Until such time when we discard our veneer of prudishness and come up with a hopefully workable answer to the issue, the kids will be continue laughing as they crawl into the back seat of a Chevy.

She is not a role model, she is an actress! that is what everyone needs to remember. So she got pregnant young we all make choices that might not seem right to others, but are right for us. I don't think OK magazine is glorifying teenage pregnancy, they are simply showing the other side to it. What is the point in knocking her for getting pregnant. It has happened and she kept it, unlike others who would have an abortion and run away from their responsibilities.

I am not syaing it is ok for teenage girls to become mothers. But we cannot expect Jamie to live her life for other teenage girls out there. Teenagers need to be smart and realise that she has the money, she is not depending on her family. So they need to do the smart thing, focus on school, get a career and live life first then have a child if you want to.
I waited untill I was 27 to have my daughter and she is the best thing that has ever happened to me. My teenage years were spent being a child, going to school, following my parents rules. When I became an adult and made choices that I am happy with. So young ladies enjoy your teens yrs, there will be enough time for kids and boys.

i just turned 18 ,but i have been marries since i was 16 years old and my husband is fixing to go on his 2nd tour of duty to iraq we have been trying for almost a year Im not saying that i approve her choises, but if she trys her best with the baby and to be hubby then in 7or 8 years she could become a spokes person for teens not telling them to have kids, but explaining that she lost a lot of free time and friends.make them understand that alot of teens dont have friends because they never have time for themselfs all i have is a husband andji never have time!!! The only reason jamie is making babies look good is because she has money. Im sure that eventhough she made a bad choise she is still going to be an ok mom just give her a chnce and don't base her off her sister everybody is their own person.

Your husband has to do consecutive duties to pay for his family, he is a man. You and the baby are the reason he is in Iraq. Go work for OK magazine so that when your duaghter turns 16 and is pregnant you can glorify that story with how dad is a war hero and mom is a rich publicist.

  • Posted By: Katcode @ 07/15/2008 12:33:14 PM

My daughter ended up becoming a teen pregnancy. She was 17 and on the pill, but was also taking antibiotics for strep throat, so she became pregnant. It wasn't my first choice for her...I would've wanted her to wait...have fun...go to college...travel the world...but life happens regardless of what we plan for. She is now married to a wonderful man (the baby's father) who is in the Marines and is unfortunately scheduled to go over to Iraq in August. They are both wonderful parents and I am very proud of my daughter for being a loving, caring mother to my beautiful grand daughter. My point is that when things don't go as planned, you can still have a life. Things happen beyond our control...but they usually happen for a reason. My daughter is not an actress...she's not rich...but she is making the best of her situation in spite of the ignorant people out there criticizing her for her having a baby so young. She will be staying with me while her husband is deployed and will attend night school to finish up her education so that she can go to college when she's ready...and I am looking forward to helping my daughter and of course...spoiling my little peanut as well!
Jessica is doing the best to make a life for her and her baby...and I say bravo to her. It's not her fault she has money and is an actress...and it's a good thing that she won't have to worry about electric bills and shut-off notices. Why should that make people mad? I say good for her. Let's be happy that she can have a good life. And as far a teen pregnancy goes...the problem isn't magazines...it's a lack of education about teen pregnancy that should be going on in our homes and in the school system. Abstinance is all well and good, but teens should have access to birth control and family planning education. And when mistakes are made...then as a society we should be supporting and helping these girls so they can learn how to become nuturing, informed parents. After all...it takes a village, doesn't it?

    • Posted By: loriw @ 07/15/2008 3:25:45 PM

I respect that your daughter is doing so well. The difference here, what I think many of us are saying is that this should not be glamorized by the media. Thank you for not exploiting your daughter by selling her to the media and perpetuating a myth that teenage pregnancy is something to be aspired to.

  • Posted By: sfanning0215 @ 07/15/2008 12:36:55 PM

Joanna23, I think you're missing the point of the previous sex ed. comment. Studies recently have shown that abstinence-based programs do not work. It is truly better to tell the students "This is sex, you should wait, but if you're going to do it anyway here is how to be safer." Abstinence may be the only 100% effective way of preventing pregnancy, but its unrealistic to think that all teens will be able to resist their raging hormones.

    • Posted By: loriw @ 07/15/2008 3:21:09 PM

Part of the problem with teens not being able to resist their raging hormones is that they are raised in an instant gratification society that leaves too many teens unsupervised. Do you all know that most teens who get pregnant had sex in the hours immediately after school while parents are still at work....

    • Posted By: MIteacher1 @ 07/15/2008 1:13:35 PM

THANK YOU!!! My school district just changed their Health Class/Sex Ed curriculum to unwanted pregnancy and disease protection based education versus abstinence. They have finally figured out that kids who have no money are going to entertain themselves somehow! I think this is a wise choice. We do need to get our heads out of the sand and realize that teens are going to do what we wish they wouldn't, unfortunately.

I have an eleven year old daughter who was a Zoey 101/Jamie Lynn fan. When news hit that she was pregnant so young and without a husband, my daughter and her friends stopped watching the show and disliked her as a teen icon. I teach inner city high school in Michigan and see many girls pregnant. Trust me, their lives aren't as easy with a baby. Shame on the magazine & the stores for advertising this epidemic.
