I think this is another example of why not to pay too much attention to what the media has to say. Certainly do not calibrate your moral compass by it because, with the exception of transmission of data the factual basis of which is questionable, at best - it offers fluff.

Jamie Lynn Spears and her sister Britney, it must be remembered, are still little white blond girls with pretty smiles.

This gives them license to whipe their feet on the sacrament of holy matrimony and to get knocked up at will (by the way is Jamie Lynn Spears baby pregnant yet?) and the American public will lick it up til the troph is clean.

in today's intolerent of intolerence climate, there's no way they could show the down side of being a teen mom. no way. you're not allowed to not like anyone. if you do you are a bigot, racist, sexist, ageist etc etc etc. no we're not allowed to think teen pregnancy is wrong. because there are teen moms out there and god forbid we make them feel badly for decisions they have made, or decisions they chose not to make. not allowed. bigot.

It's all fine and dandy for Spears because she's already wealthy. But what about all of those other girls who have babies while they're still teens? A lot of them either have to go it alone and have to scrape for anything they can get. If they have parents that are willing to help them, then they're lucky. Why do we cater so much to Hollywood and its rediculous celebreties?

Wow. Not only is this story glamorizing teen pregnancies, but the trend that this story displays is the very one that is encouraging teen abortions. In this day and age, too many teens(who are not as financially "set up" as Jamie Lynn do things without regard to consequences. The "morning after pill" and the ease of obtaining abortions have created a sex subculture within America's teens that never has to worry about ramifications of their actions. On the same side of the coin, celebrities in the media have made it "fashionable" to be pregnant. News flash, people: pregnancies(brought to term) actually become humans that need care and a nurturing environment to thrive. The fact that these lives start out as a "fashion accessory" is disgusting and not fair to the babies that will inevitably be neglected when they become real children and are not fashionable or trendy anymore. This generation(and I am 30, not that old) has become so media-driven that many do not know what parts of life should be treated with respect and reverence and what parts are just a product of self and instant gratification. Wake up, media. You are raising our country's next generation, not their parents. Either take responsibility for that, or let their parents do their jobs.

I agree with JamieM... I too was a teen mom had my first child when I was 18 and second when I was 19! And Yes it is a great feeling but it takes more than money to raise a child...It takes patience, love, understanding etc...And for the media to glamorize this story is insane....Let her be a teen mom and learn how to raise a child, it will be a learning expierence for her and a rewarding one. The media wants to do something benefical for the average girl....do a documentry on one, show what life is really like......

Teen pregnancy is not something that has just occurred for the first time beginning with Jamie Lynn. It has been happenning for a LONG time. If Jamie Lynn would have decided to get an abortion, she would have been criticized for that too! Yes, she is only a teenager, but she seems to want to be a good mother which is more then I can say for a lot of mothers who are older then she is! While I don't condone teen pregnancy, at least she is taking care of her baby and not her mom or a nanny. Possibly the only difference between Jamie Lynn and another teen having a baby is that Jamie Lynn has the resources to raise her.

As the father of a 12 year old girl, I feel this article is utterly irresponsible and exploitative. Basically, it legitimatizes and glamorizes sex by a girl who was less than 16 years old, which in many states is statutory rape. It makes my job as a father very difficult.

And I am a single dad with three children to support, besides separately supporting their mother as well.

I don't think putting Jamie Lynn on the front cover was a swell idea.....Real life isn't like the life of the Hollywood stars...I had a child at a young age and thank God my parents were there to help me. I worked for 15 yrs at a fast food restaurant to put myself through college and raise my child....I did live in Govt housing and had no choice sometimes to accept help....Real life is not all glitze and glamour......

  • Posted By: JaimieM @ 07/15/2008 8:09:21 AM

I think it's a load of crap to say that Jamie Lynn's cover doesn't glamorize teen pregnancy. I had my daughter at 17 and all I was told was that I was making a big mistake and that I'd never make it. Everyone looked down on my mother for a while because she was going to be a grandmother at 37 and they pointed their fingers at her for letting me go through with the pregnancy. Of course being a mother for Jamie Lynn is the best thing ever; I don't know any teenage moms that have tons of money and are set for life, if I was I'd have more children myself. I think the whole story just makes it look too easy to other teens that have absolutly no clue how it is to be a teen mom in the middle class, real world.

This is one scumbag in a family of scumbags NONE of whom have the class to be spokesperson for ANYTHING and ALL of whom should be lessons in how NOT to behave!

  • Posted By: petal @ 07/15/2008 8:07:30 AM

OK! should be ashamed. This is just to sell magazines. The GOD almighty BUCK, that is what runs the world today. This teen should be thinking about getting her education and making something of herself instead she is playing with real live dolls. SHAME SHAME on us for allowing this to happen.

  • Posted By: CSA1999 @ 07/15/2008 8:07:25 AM

Young girls who idolize Jamie Lynn Spears will see the cover of OK magazine and want to be just like her. Shame on you for sacrificing good morals for a "good" story.

  • Posted By: jenjayblue @ 07/15/2008 8:06:57 AM

If she's not a spokesperson for teen pregnancy then she shouldn't be on the cover of a magazine. Teens will see that and get the wrong impression because being a mom might be wonderful for her because at the young age of 17 she has the financial means to support a child, but most teens do not. You can't separate her from "normal" kids her age for the sake of promoting a morally corupt magazine cover, but her whole celebrity, like many others, is based on getting people to want to be just like her.

  • Posted By: slmm @ 07/15/2008 8:06:27 AM

I think it gives false hope to all teens no matter what gender they are....Real life isn't a bowl of cherries...I know because with the help of my parents I raised a child and had to work a fast food restaurant for 15 yrs while going to college.....I did live in govt housing and did take handouts only because I had no other choice...I think putting Jamie lynn spears on the cover only glamourises things.....

Ask Nel Sots (or other Democratic Leaders) since they forced the legislation through in Califonia years ago- teen pregnancy (at least for minorities) gets you a base "salary", social security, section 8 housing, food stamps, free medicaid, and free education AS LONG AS YOU REMAIN UNMARRIED. If you have a second, third child you benifits are the equivelent of a $30,000 a year salary- just for pimping around!!!

Yes, this definatly glamorizes teen pregnancy, but fails to notify the readers of the 32 STD's (fifteen which are untreatable), the emotional scars of no Father raising the child, being under the thumb screws of a Government that tells you what to do or you loose your benifits (you better vote Democratic or well will cut benifits hype), child abuse, drop out children, welfare mentality and on and on.

I'll tell everyone something. I have a 13 year old Daughter and on top of that I'm a single Dad. Me and my daughter went to Shoprite to by some stuff and the FIRST THING she GRABBED was that issue of OK! with a smile from ear to ear. I looked at her and told her " you think that's cute, that means she's probably been having sex at the age 0f 14-16 years old. She looked at me with this face like Wow Dad I see what you mean " . Like I told her, she has the money to do this kinda stuff if it was you , Everyone would tell me and our family how irresponsible we are letting such a young girl get pregnat but because she's a celebrity it's ok.
I told my kid don't think what she's doing is ok my love because it isn't. It's against the LAW. If that was any other kid WOULDN'T THEY CALL THAT SOME SORT OF RAPE, Here in New York they would. I've seen guys go to Jail for having Sex with a give was 17 just about to turn 18 . the mother found out and she locked his butt up. We need to send a positive message to our children not a negetive one. Then you wonder why the Country is being the way it's being runned. Your Country will give you what you give it. Everything is reality TV Model drugs Rappers and all this crazy stuff. The American People Need to WAKE UP and Find there Family Values.

littlejohn. You seem to be doing great for a single dad. You explained things to your daughter. 2 thumbs up to you. Most parents wouldn't explain things like that to their kids. Keep up the good job.!!

I am so sick of hear about any of the Spears. That is all you see anymore. It is all about how much money you have. I was a teenage mom, the same as Jamie no one put me on the front cover. I was just another teenage pregnancy statistic. It is a lot of hard work to be so young and have a baby. With help from my mom, dad and grandparents I did finish school and now that baby is a 17 year old young man get ready to finish school. I have tried to let him know what I did was a mistake, but HE is by NO means a mistake. I had a lot of people look down on me for being only 17, so why do we make Jamie look so great?
