What a sad commentary on us as a nation when babies are now an "it" factor. Will they fade from popularity for the celeberity market much like the pocket pooches? Being a teen mom is not glamourous by any terms. Sad to see only the "good things" reported about it.OK would be doing a better service for the youth it targets if they would show how most teen pregnancies end up. There are no real fairy tale endings

We act all shocked and concerned when teens get pregnant and with just cause and yet we push the idea as a glamorous adventure. Duh... Having a child is a life time commitment more often than not thrust upon the parents of the teen mother. Personally I am really tired of looking at photos of the latest "baby bump" like these teens and stars invented having babies. How do they think they got here? I think the teen magazines and all magazines have a responsibility to promote a more healthy way of teen life. These kids need to enjoy being teens before having the responsibility of parenthood.

I was a teen mom myself, this is obviously about money and nothing more, they have stated its their best seller. She has alot of money, its no problem for her to have this baby, she can afford the nannys to take care of it. And you bet she dont have to worry about putting food on the table. or paying the light bill. Its magaznes like this that pay them a million dollars to let them take picts and tell how great it is to be a teen mother. Money cant buy you happiness but it sure can buy a nanny to take care of the kid while your out rompin on the town makin more money for the magazines. She dont have normal worries of a parent, such as worrying about bills, if she has a good daycare provider or babysitter. or losing her job becasuse she has to stay home to take care of a sick baby. or wow do i pay for the babies medicine or do i buy groceries, or put gas in my car to go to work. THATS REALITY!!!

Please for the love of God (oops I sused a religious word) Please don't ask us if we have an opinion and then proceed to tell us what you think. I work in an business where teen mothers with three and fout sometimes seven kids come through and don't know how to care for them. Hell yes this glamorizes teen pregnancy. who is going to take care of them, the public thats who tax dollars hard at wokrk becaus the media is telling them ist ok and the parents don't give a crap? at least some don't. Its out of control. I see thirty year old who cant take care of their own children and you expect a teen who hasn't even finished high school to raise the next generation. please who ever you are, reality check. this ain't Gossip Girl it is someones future no to mention a child. Check out the welfare system, and Foster care. Why don't you just say Pedaphilia is ok! because glamorizing teen pregnancy will only lead to more girls thats right girls hooking up with older men because they are educated.

Just remember the new status quo is "wait until your out of college to get pregnant." Women in America have been having kids when they where 14 sense before the British colonized the America's. Not until the 1900's and the women's movement and more recently the movements in the 60's and 70's did women start pushing to wait to have kids. Many things have changed but "kids having 'kids'" hasn't.
Im glad OK magazine did this interview and showed it to its readers who are at this age so they don't feel so "dirty" when/if they do get pregnant. The fact that so many don't feel comfortable telling their parents/adults when they do become pregnant should send a clear signal to parents as a warning sighn that this country is screwed up. Everyone should be congradulating her (Jamie) for having this baby, keeping it, and raising it. But instead we are "setting her to the torch" because she's a "role model" and got pregnant.
The hypocrtits on the left and right need to go play with some guns in Iraq. One less hypocrite in America will make it a better place.

The comment of babies being the new "it" factor in the celebrity market is disturbing. When the phase passes what happens to the babies? Are they a commodity to be traded or discarded at a whim? These are not the cute pocket pooches that everyone had several years ago, how many shelters are housing the now not chic animals. What a sad commentary on our values as a nation when babies are an "it" factor. Especially so for teens who don't usually know who they are and now have another life to look after.

SweetDreamsCherry .... please tell me the characteristics of a "day care child"? And you know the characteristics because you are a pschologist and you've been all over the county observing all kids around in different demographics and therefore you are an expert? You sounded very smart until you made that comment. I know some bratty and not so smart daycare kids and stay at home with their mom kids. Kids are kid and life is life. Don't judge JL or people you don't know. You know, back in the day, per your comments, you should be familair with that era, women secretly got abortions and pretended that their daughters were their sisters not to shame the family. JL stood up for herself and is handling this situation very responsibly. That's a win for her.

iN MY HOUSE zOEY 101 IS NOT EVEN ALOUD ON! After they did not fire her, I felt that sent the wrong message. All I can say is there will not be any subscriptions to OK mag in this house anytime soon!!! I think many worng examples have been set here, from the start of this pregnancy. If I was this girls Mom I would never be able to go in public with my head upagain!! I have 3 children ages 10, 6, and 2. I do not let the public set that standard as to what message to send to my children. I parent and we talk about issues like this. But I do admit once they get older it will be tougher with socitey setting such low examples as thery have here!!!!!

"...We don't set out to be the moral authority. We try to present the facts and let our readers decide."

OK! just present the facts? Really? What about the fact that a huge number of 16 year old American girls are just plain naive and borderline incapable of discerning between Showbiz glam and their own ordinary lives? I am sure that Ms. Spears' comment about motherhood being the best feeling in the world will echo into their (air)heads long after the voices of reason are done telling them that they should probably finish their education, and mature into fully responsible women before getting all knocked up.

I don't understand why her picture is on the cover of any magazine. Teen age births are up for the first time in 15 years. We glamorize these girls and young men for reproducing. We give them WIC, welfare, and all types of assistance that those of us who are "normal" taxpayers do not recieve. Of course, her situation is different because she has money. The teens don't see it that way. It is ironic in 2008 with all of the birth control available that we still have all of these pregnant girls. The icons in the past weren't running around pregnant on T.V. and they didn't have the forms of birth control we have today. We have made teen pregnancy an O.K. thing. We have taken all of the personal responsibility out of behavior. We even put daycares in our high schools. What is wrong with this country?????
The story of the 17 year old young man decapitated by jumping two fences and disregarding warning signs became the amusement parks error in some people's minds. I hate that the young man diied and I feel sorry for the family. However, at some point, we have to tell young people that there are rules for a reason. If they break them some times there are life altering consequences.

Why discuss programs that help people in need and teen pregnancy? The two have nothing to do with each other EXCEPT in these aspects: these posts clearly show that we as a society have lost our humanity and society is very quick to judge one another.
Ms. Spears has a right to do what ever she wants to do as long as it is not hurting any one else(keep the judgement of "oh, the baby is going to be screwed up,etc. to yourself). All anyone would have to do with children is to 1)let them come to his/her own conclusion(can you afford to be sexually active OR if you are, protect yourself AND 2) can you afford to support a baby at this time of your life? Teens are "loaded weapons" and preaching puritanistic values simply does not work.
Don't condemn or preach to others simplistic values. Don't judge. What works for her may not work for you or your family but a healthier attitude would be to live and let live and teach personal responsibility(which has nothing to do with WIC). That goes much farther than "oh God, sex is bad and teens who have sex and have babies are bad" thinking.

  • Posted By: Mickey1517 @ 07/15/2008 7:41:05 AM

Magazines are in the business to make money. If the Spears family likes prostituting themselves at any cost to make that money, so be it. I'm tired of reading about this hillbilly family and the antics of its lowbrow daughters.

  • Posted By: engineergirl @ 07/15/2008 7:40:25 AM

I think it was a responsible decision for Jamie to make after an irresponsible one was chosen. Many people choose to abort a baby if they don't want it, but she took responsibility for her actions and THAT should be glamorized. If someone thinks this story is telling kids to have sex they are stupid, it is not promoting anything, but rather showing that happiness can be found by chosing life no matter WHAT age you are!

  • Posted By: misty425 @ 07/15/2008 7:39:58 AM

Wow!! I think every 15 or 16 should go out and get pwregnant!!

Yhis uis so stupid of the press top make Jamie Lynn an icon for having a baby at 16. What is this world coming to????

  • Posted By: rlblond @ 07/15/2008 7:34:28 AM

That whole family is a disgrace and royal mess. The Editors of the magazine should be ashamed, it just goes to show that it is all about money!

  • Posted By: rlblond @ 07/15/2008 7:33:27 AM

OK magazine is totally irresponsible with this story, and the cover just sends the wrong message to teens. Whatever happened to common sense and responsible journalism? The Spears girls are all messed up and the mother is to blame!

  • Posted By: novajova @ 07/15/2008 7:31:05 AM

This show's how screwed up our society is. How nice it is that Jamie Lynn had a baby, now we can only imagine how many young fans will look upon this as a signal to go ahead and have babies of their own. This is wonderful, what's next.

  • Posted By: djrds06 @ 07/15/2008 7:30:23 AM

Well yeah they are publisizing her pregnancy. Also they are not going over the upsides but tou have to understand that Jamie is not the AVERAGE TEEN! She compares on n level to the AVERAGE TENNAGER. Any teenager would know that without thinking about. So them publiszing Jamie' s baby is not going to give a teen the thought oh hey let me go get pregnant so I can be on the cover of Nickelodean just like Jamie and have a fiance at the age of 17. Any person who uses common sense knows that Jamieis very wealty by herself and can support the baby as oppose to the AVERAGE TEEN!
