Negativity and guilt is exactly what Jamie does not need. She is a vibrant beautiful innocent lady that deserves all the support she can get. My message to you Jamie, is I know this a great life change for you and I pray for your happiness and well being. I wish you, and your family. a great future. Never take to heart all this negativity from the public because it will destroy your beautiful spirit.

To say Jamie is innocent is a contradiction, point being the child she is holding, and although I wish her the best of luck , I do believe this is irresponsible of not only OK but of Jamie also. I agree, this seems to do nothing more than glorify teen pregnancy, babies having babies. It dosn't matter what anyone thinks, the truth of the matter is that children of scocity look and this and believe it is ok no matter what the parents say, just another case of a promising young future gone bad, she just has the advantage of having a couple of $$ to make it look glamourous. I feel pity and sorrow for her and the effects this is going to cause......

I was in line at the grocery store with my nine year old son, who stared, and stared at the magazine before picking it up and bringing it to me. "Can you believe she has a baby?" he asked. "No" I answered, "Can you?" "She's way to young to know how to be a good mom."

When I first saw the cover I was appaled at how glamorous they made it appear. But in my case, it had the opposite effect. I doubt that will be true of all the young girls who look up to Ms. Spears.

If your famous, or wanna-be famous why not get pregnant?? You won't have to take care of the baby, other than for photo-ops - just hire that nasty part out! Most pregnant teenagers are just kids themselves - kids trying to raise kids - and that's just wrong. Don't add to the hype and glamor of being a teen and being pregnant - don't buy the message!

  • Posted By: bevymark @ 07/15/2008 7:22:28 AM

This is a prime example of what really matters is the bottom line - money, which is what the cover will bring in for the magazine. They are willing to sell anything for money. The cover does nothing BUT glamorize pregnancy and motherhood. They fail to present the real story. It may even start some dialogue about having a baby at so young an age, but that cover does more damage than any dialogue can help.

i don't think teen pregnancy is being "glamorized" by putting Jamie on a magazine cover. I mean most people were overly curious on how her child looked and there you have it. This one young lady is not going to determine what millions of teens out there are having sex or deciding not to have sex. All of that influence SHOULD start at home with the parents teaching their child, not some seventeen year old who's on some TV show. I mean seriously, who cares!!!! Live your own lives and stop trying to determine if her life is affecting how you life your life, and if it is then you need to take a step back and re-examine yourself and your purpose!!!! Oh and just in case teens are out there thinking they can handle having a baby, watch the new show on NBC Baby Borrowers!! I bet that'll change their minds!!

There is truly nothing about this story that is even remotely reality to 99.99% of any young girl in a teen pregnancy situation. Jamie Lynn faced tough decisions?
This really says so much about our countries society. It should not even be considered to do such a story. Jamie Lynn has even made money off of her teen pregnancy. Just her saying how great it is just shows her immaturity. If she were mature enough to have a child and care for it, she would graciously put it out there that somethings happen without being planned and how fortunate she is to not be in the situation that most teens would be in but, no she is 17 and acts it and wealthy and so it is "so wonderful".
Stories like this are why I do not spend so much as a dime on OK! or any other mag. with such shallow substance.
This cover/story and how it was done does not sit well with me at all.

Is statutory rape not on the books where they live? In many states this would be a misdemeanor because both kids are underage and there is only a year or two age gap between the two. I would have loved for them both to have been charged, slightly humiliated and made to acknowledge that unwed teenage pregnancey ain't "What's Up". If they started charging these kids with misdemeanor or even felony statutory rape you would have folks think twice and they definitely wouldn't hype pregnancy up like they do now.

I guess I've changed since I was a teen, busy trying to get soem myself :-)

smart choices!?!? she got pregnant before she could vote!!!

    • Posted By: C.A.R. @ 07/15/2008 7:14:50 AM

She can't vote until November. Now, she's got something to do till then. Then, look at what she's got to vote FOR! Some choice! Two wrongs don't make a right!

YES YES of course the spread in the magazine glamorizes teen age pregnancy!!! It does not show a child in a bad situation with not so nice clothes and hair and a baby that is crying. It shows a pop princess' sister who does not have exactly the same problems as a normal regular girl in the world. She looks great and says it is all great. Sounds good, looks good, must be good.

you know i have a 11 year old daughter, and yes all this publicity jamie is getting is glamourizing her having a baby! how can i tell my daughter just because she has money that makes it ok for jamie to get pregnant out of wedlock and have a baby? this story is painting the wrong kinda of picture, even the words in your defense spell out if you dont have to worry about paying your electric bill it,s ok.

People can say what they want about Jamie lynn glamorizing teen pregnancy but it was around way before her and it will still be around when we are all gone.So no she did not glamorize it just because she is a star !!Congratulations Jamie Lynn your baby is beautiful!!!

You are correct when you pint out that teen pregnancy has been around for a while--but it still doesn't make the way the media and her family is handling the situation right. You don' think there are young girls out there who look up to "Zoey" and will try to emulate her? It does glamorize it when wshe says "it's the best feeling in the world." It does underscore a way to fill a void that some of these young girls have. And sadly, she doesn't come out and tell everyone how easy she has it with her millions to hire nannies and house help. She will never have to struggle to finish her HS education or going to college, find cheap daycare, a decent-paying job or worry about having enough money to buy diapers and baby food. If this relationship with the baby's father doesn't work out, she won't have to worry about dating or finding a decent guy. Most of these young girls will only look at the illusion of "happily ever after" in this story and find validation to do the same.
In the same way these girls dressed, talked and bought the same things Brittany bought,

Not only does this not paint a reality of the down sides of teen pregnancy for the teen parents and child but also the typical downsides that teen pregnancy cost society. OK was wrong to act as though this is okay, because it is not.

ONce again the media has taken what should be a horific role model and turned her into a hero for young girls. Maybe one day the media and television will hit 'real' rock bottom and then we get regain some values again. I'm a staunch republican in my thinking and upbringing, but I actually agree with Michelle Obama when she says it's getting harder to be proud to be American when we as american's are continually setting the bar lower and lower for the rest of the world to see. I don't mean that this girl should shrivel up and be branded a scarlet letter, all I mena is she shouldn't be praised and celebrated as a celebrity because she got knocked up. If she wasn't born into a psuedo celebrity lifestyle she would be nothing more than a sad story on dateline about a poor teenage pregnancy, but because of big sis Brit, she's well to do and has a career and $$$$. I'm still waiting for family values Disney to dump her . That would hopefully at least lay some groundwork for these teens hopeing to ride the Mouse to stardom to at least think about image on young kids.

What a bunch of hypocrits! This is just stupid. If the girl doesn't have a boyfriend at age 17, adolescent health experts cringe (as pointed out in the article). If she finally gets a boyfriend and gets pregnant, everybody cringes again. What did you think they would play chess when they are sitting alone? We encourage these kids to have pre-marital sexual relationships in their teens, then we're surprised when they're pregnant! Thats stupid...

This society is just stupid...I mean, if she is 17 and doesn't have a boyfriend, adolescent health experts cringe, and then if she gets a boyfriend and gets pregnant, everybody cringes again. If you want her to have a boyfriend, then u know they're going to do more stuff together than play chess, so why the surprised look on your faces? This society EXPECTS kids to experience pre-marital sexual relationships at an early age, so dont act surprised PLEASE!

A very poor attempt at PR spin by the magazine editor. Please give us a break. As if you had no idea that another Spears family scandal wouldn't sell magazines--you just wanted to make sure the story was handled correctly. Call a spade a spade--you did it to sell magazines and for no other reason.
I love how the editor says that Jamie Lynn made "Smart choices." Give me a break! How smart is it to be pregnant at 16, unmarried and plaster it all over the fronts of magazines everywhere? Both of the Spears girls have some serious mental health issues that need to be addressed. The parents of these two girls need to also get some counseling.

  • Posted By: laday @ 07/15/2008 7:02:48 AM

Adolescent girls are looking to "celebrities" as role models. What kind of example is portaited by showing glamour of Jamie Speers with a child when she is a child herself. I personally think the media is having a hayday with the Speers sisters. I think there are plenty of other issues to focus on other than people who make very poor decisions in their life.

  • Posted By: green4rak @ 07/15/2008 6:59:47 AM

I still think it's a shame that the Spear parents are using their children to make money. They approached OK! Magazine to do this story on Jamie Lynn - I seriously wonder how much they pushed her to get pregnant in the first place! The entire family should be ashamed of the negative & wrong image they are presenting to teens!!

I do think showing the picture of this young girl makes it look like it is easy. In the article Rob Shuter says " She's not worried about paying her electricity bill." Rob......Hello it is not about paying the electric bill, she is 16 years old and a mother.....you do not understand and have no clue what an impact this will have on her life. Oh sure she has the money but not the maturity to take care of a child...she is a child. From her families past experience and what this young lady as grown up with she will more than likely do the same things as her sister. The people around her will make or brake this situation. Once a person of this public stature goes through all this person time they should stay out of the limelight for awhile SHE IS NOT A HERO. She is a young girl who now has a baby to raise, it is her business and not for all the other young girls to look up to.

    Rob get a clue

Jamie and Britney, as well as their mother, are nothing more than white trash. Uncouth, uneducated, classless white trash. Once again a prime example that money does not give you class and culture.
