I think that Jamie Lynn is very lucky to have all the money she needs to raise this baby. She doesn't have to worry about struggling to feed her baby and pay her bills...she can afford a nanny if she wants to go out with her teenage friends, etc. Her money can buy her time. However, she is still only 17, and she may have money, but that doesn't mean she has education, parenting skills, or street smarts. I think it is unfortunate that this young girl has had a baby so early, and her situation is indeed very exceptional, and sends the wrong message to other teens. Other teenagers won't necessarily see her situation for what it is, and will only gush over baby. Jamie Lyn: you have been a poor role model. Hopefully you can redeem yourself by rising to the challenge.

I think it is disgusting that this pathetic and media hungry family would allow their 17 year old to splashed on magazines and media. I WON'T spend a dime on any magazines that promote this garbage!desensitized We can honestly wonder what is wrong with America, CAN WE SAY DESENSITIZED? WE are exposed so much of this WRONG behavior that now we just accept it as NORMAL!!

i really think that children that age have no idea what it is like to be a mother, they are CHILDREN. Doing this cover story I think is a REALLY bad idea. She has lots of money and is definately not in a situation that most people are in. What I would love to see is someone in the media stand up and say THIS IS WRONG! Being 17 and having a child is not something that should be rewarded with positive attention and money for pictures. What has happened to our society?!

I'm pretty liberal on most social issues, but I must say that I'm utterly disgusted by the editor's decision to present this story, in this manner, on the magazine cover. Whatever rationalizations the editor gives, this is about one thing: money. As a journalist, I can tell you that there's honor in presenting a story and letting readers make up their own minds, but that's not what's happening here. The beaming girl, the excitable headline with the exclamation points and the over-the-moon quote combine to convey to anyone passing by the rack at the grocery store the message that having a baby is nothing but wonderful even if you're a teenager. There is no balance, no indication that there's anything more to this story, or that hers are unique circumstances, on the cover. It's incredibly irresponsible. No, it's not the magazine's job to be a moral authority. But it should show some measure of responsibility, draw a line somewhere, in the same way it wouldn't recklessly spout the rantings of a serial killer or neo-Nazi on the cover without framing the person's comments appropriately. You may point out that she's an exceptional situation in the story, but the cover doesn't give a clue as to this. It's calculated simply, and thoughtlessly, to sell magazines. Perhaps the editors should seek a job in which they aren't required to think and make difficult decisions that take into consideration other factors besides the number of copies they'll sell. The power of print, especially that of a popular magazine, demands better judgement.

It does not do justice to the real teenage moms out there that struggle everyday to make ends meet.It makes it seem tooo easy. Talk to someone who has been there and get a real story. How when it takes eighteen years to get turned around, how your baby has no health care coverage because your parents make too much, about juggling work, school, and home life. How hard it is to find time to study and take care of a baby.To not know how you are going to make it one day to the next that is the real teenage mom who is trying, ben there and have made it but it was a struggle!!!

For someone from the media to say that this doesn't glamorize teen pregnancy is as irresponsible as for them to think that exploiting celebutantes, who have made careers out of exploiting themselves to get media coverage, doesn't influence young women either. Both need to grow up.

I am 17 myself and seeing all these young girls now a days with babies doesn't seem right. these girls should be focusing on school and what they want to do with the rest of there lives. they should be waiting to have kids until they are ready and able to provide for them. i want my child to have everything i didn't. that's why I'm waiting to have children when I'm older and have an education and a great job so i can provide for them.

Unfortunately, Jamie Lynn's story is glamorizing teen pregnancy. Her story does not show the true hardship that pregnant teen mother's face. Being a teen mother makes life difficult at best. I was a teen mother and it was in large part due to my lack of knowledge regarding sex and pregnancy. The first time an adult talked to me about these things I was already 6 months pregnant at 15. I did not realize at the time the huge impact that raising a child would have until I was doing it. I am now 31 and just getting my life in order. My children have suffered due to low income, bad insurance, and my long hours at several jobs and school. I speak to my children regularly about life, sex, and children with the hope that they will make better choices with their lives.

Teens are not ignorant sheep like some think they arey. They face enormous peer pressure every day on all sorts of issues - sex, drugs, alcohol, crime.

Maybe one or two foolish teens will see Spears baby as some sort of fantasy life, but most teens know what it will mean for their own lives.

Oh, and the average age of motherhood in the USA is NOT 18. It depends on the state you live in, but here's a link to see what that average is in the state you live in.
