Comment: Ironically, as time goes by Bush will be seen as the president that responded with a counterattack to America's first large terrorist event on our own soil. The rest of what he did will become a blur in time since economics tend to separate from their presidents over the years. And that is why Clinton will only be remembered as the guy that got impeached... and maybe for the stain on a blue dress, but I doubt that will make it to the books in 50 years.

Also, you have an odd memory of the Reagan years, but that just proves what I just said about people separating presidents from their economies. Reagan walked into the white house with 19% mortgage rates and runaway inflation. His "voodoo economics" are what got our economy back on track. Go look it up. Clinton enjoyed some good years in spite of his first term where his approval was about 24%, but he threw is all away because of weak loins. Without googling can you tell me who the other impeached president was and why he got impeached? It was even more lame than Clinton's impeachment. Maybe you can, but most people can't . They just remember that he made his mark by getting impeached.. fair or not, that's how history works. By the way, it was Andrew Johnson and he got impeached just after the civil war for having attitude problems involving the confederacy. Go ahead and pretend you knew that if you want, but very few Americans would know it without looking it up. As for Clinton, 50 years from now nobody will ask "why" he got impeached, his footnote will just be "that" he was impeached. History remembers the big stuff, not the details.
Bush will be remembered for addressing 9/11 but decades from now people will remember more about who ends the war (depending on HOW it ends) than who started it. Again, that's how history works. You don't have to like it, but life has patterns and this is one of them. You can rant and rave until your caps lock button breaks, but you can't stop how history is recorded.... nobody can remember everything.
Comment: Floridadave, I think you have a very good point. But also people reading back on the history will not have the context people today have. Many historians will probably look at the sum of Katrina, 911, two wars and come to the conclusion that Bush was unfairly blamed for a bad economy that resulted from major events. They may also see that his proactive stances helped stem the negative effects far sooner than they would have gone away if left alone.
We have lost 4000 people this is tragic for America but it is no where near the losses of most wars. Our enemy has suffered far greater losses and our president has the safety of our troops as a top priority. History will be written by Liberal historians and they will paint Bush in their own light but when the facts are seperated out by future generations he probably will come out ok.

Comment: McCain will win and here is why. As the election grows closer, so will the statistical difference between Obama and McCain. They will probably end up within about 3 points of each other, but at least 4% will go to alternative candidates, mainly Ralph Nader. Comment: Jesse Jackson could never be President because like so many other black Americans, he cannot get over his self-hatred. Obama is doing his best to keep race out of this campaign, which as a black man is impressive. Jackson has always hid behind the idea that if you speak about racism, you're fighting it. I now understand that it is because we don't allow ourselves to move past race because it protects us. It gives us excuses, benefits, set backs, advantages, loss and gains. Whites have intimidated blacks into thinking that they are inferior, but blacks have solidified it. We are responsible for our own demise. This is something Jesse Jackson will never, ever accept.

Two men might get different sentences for the same crime for a variety of reasons, but generally due to prior crimes in their history. It's not the color you were born with, its the number of crimes you committed along the way. Seems simple enough to understand. And yes, I have seen white unarmed men shot to death by police. And they are always disobeying the cops when it happens. This too, is really simple.
Now read this carefully, maybe this will save your life: When a cop tells you to do something, even if you disagree with it or it seems to violate your rights--- do it. And do it slowly. Don't scare cops, even if they are scaring you. If they do something wrong you can take it up with his superiors later. You might feel a little aggravated or dehumanized..... but you will be alive.

I find it odd that your complaint isn't so much about cops shooting people as much as it is about shooting them too many times. Cops shoot to kill. They unload their guns completely, normally. 17 rounds each X 3 cops is 51 bullets. It happens all the time here in Florida. Realistically, we look at the same problem through different lenses and will never change each other's views completely. I really do try to see it from a different perspective, but when I hear complaints like yours what it ends up looking like to me is someone so angry about the past and perceived prejudice shown others, that you can't see the opportunities out there for yourself. I can't speak for all white people, but I am always impressed by people that overcome poverty and self pity to succeed through hard work and determination. People that are willing to work hard to succeed are embraced and admired by employers. Color doesn't matter anymore... we have evolved past that and besides: It's the law.

Comment: Affirmative Action was implemented to offset the institutionalized, legal discrimination that affected minorities AND, WOMEN. White women have benefitted from this policy to the same degree as minorities. As flawed as the policy may be, it has helped in correcting some of the oppressive legislation that conservatives voted to uphold. Join the GOP.....I think not, kiddo.

Comment: Your take of Affirmative Action sure sounds pretty, but that's not how it worked. It lowered standards for less qualified men and women---- period. You can pretend it was something else, but like Affirmative Action, your version will not be based in reality. Reverse discrimination is still discrimination. Affirmative action was created by people who believed that minorities could not make it on their own. That's unfair to the minority and to the non-minority that gets passed over.

Years ago, before affirmative action white conservatives deliberately excluded Blacks (and others) from positions saying they were unqualified. Now that we have affirmative action those same white conservatives are saying that due to affirmative action blacks are unqualified.

I think Affirmative action was necessary coming out of the 50's and 60's but we have out grown it as a nation. Comment: Affirmative action works poorly in civil service. When lists are put together based on test scores or other qualifications, they are scored from best to worst. Typically you promote or hire starting at number one then work down. Affirmative action requires that you pick as far down the list as required to find a minority, passing over countless more qualified candidates.
How is that fair? How is that equal treatment? How is it not racist? How is it not an insult to the minority?
I stand by my original statement: Affirmative action is an insult to minorities. Only a racist could feel good about a program that is tied directly to color preference. Republicans are better than that.

Wait here is some very impressive numbers the 3
trillion dollar invasion/occupation is costing every
family in America 48K to 50k, which is providing
500,000 thousand dollars in aid for every man, woman
and child living in Iraq with 40% of the funds used to
finance the invasion/occupation is from off shore
lenders. thats the money part of the equation which is
not good.
The lives lost equations is 4000 + of our most brave
Americans being palyed as pawns in some very wickedly
sick rich people's chess game. That equates to 11
armed service personal being killed in Iraq every day.
This does not include the staggering amounts of death,
of the Iraqi people.
And we can take it one step further
Let us take the people in the USA who live on the
poverty level of the economic step ladder.
In the year 2000 there were 27 mil people living in
poverty with about an average of 27 children dyeing
every day because of that fact. that equates to 9855
children dead every year in the USA so lets take that
even further roughly about 49275 since the beginning of
the invasion/occupation. But that number could
possibly be even higher since we now have 35 mil
people who live in poverty today, in The USA.
Now we all must all be just deaf, dumb and blind
either by choice, ignorance or lack of information by
main stream media.
Or let us just look at a simple thing as bridges in
disrepair in The USA
Of the country's nearly 600,000 bridges, 26% were
found structurally deficient or "functionally
obsolete" in a 2006 U.S. Department of Transportation
report. (That equates to 156,000) The condition of
heavily used urban bridges like the one that collapsed
Minn. is even worse: one in three are classified as
aging or unable to accommodate modern vehicle weights
and traffic volume.
We don't have the funds to fix our bridges and our
roads in direpair.
