Barack is an overcomer.....just as the white Irish, the Chinese, the Japanese, and the Jews, and the "white trash" of the south and even more recently the Arabs in American, first endured then overcame and finally rose above petty prejudice he refuses to play the martyr for all eterity. That is why he will be president while Jesse Jackson who loves and cherishes and clutches to his roll as a victim will always be a failed also ran. Because leaders are not victims they rise above, they drop the mantle of victim and proudly stand as victors.
Lick your wounds and eat your sour grapes Jesse......You are who you are, because you cannot rise above failure. As long as everything ,including the fact the black fathers are noticibly absent from their families is someone elses (slave owners from 100 years ago) fault then there will never be self accoutability amoung your people nor will they be able to flourish. Even Latin Americans are forging strong and healthy political power becuase they don't lounge in the poor me paradise of poverty, Since the legal slave trade ended there have been "many slaves" of many colors but the true slaves today are the blacks who continue to shackle themselves with victimhood.

Dear Marti, although i agree with you in general and I can see a world of difference between Jackson and Obama, I do think that some of that difference is generational as well as characterological. It sure does look like Obama has better character than Jackson. However, some of Jackson's victim mentality comes from the fact that he grew up in the 40s and 50s, when black men still were lynched and he was "just a nig*er." At his birth, his mother could have expected that if her son were lucky enough not to be murdered, he might be able to make his way as a bellboy or dishwasher. At Obama's birth, his mother could have expected that if her son were lucky enough, he might go to college and get a good job, even though he still would face some discrimination.

These kinds of social realities do shape people's minds, and can indeed lead to the bad attitudes we have seen in the words of Jackson, Sharpton and Wright. Hardly anyone has it in them to be a MLK or a Ghandi when faced with adversity. Even though I don't care for the bitter anger of Jackson, et al, I can see where it is coming from and give him at least half a break. Nevertheless, i still prefer Obama.

Thats understandable what you are saying nins, for once I agree with you about something..Jackson is still and always will have found his fame on the coattails of MLK though..

    (3%) (209%) (650%)

Some people as a result of the
    Reagan/Bush/Clinton/Bush Economic policies are doing
    well

    "EXTREMELY WELL"

LETS SEE 3,030,000 PEOPLE In the USA "DOING EXTREMELY
    WELL"

270,000,000 People in the USA"DOING EXTREMELY BAD"

    Which group are you in?

If we are not BITTER Why in hell are we not BITTER?

Where your vote lies is where you are on the economic
    ladder? REALLY?

Wait here is some very impressive numbers the 3
trillion dollar invasion/occupation is costing every
family in America 48K to 50k, which is providing
500,000 thousand dollars in aid for every man, woman
and child living in Iraq with 40% of the funds used to
finance the invasion/occupation is from off shore
lenders. thats the money part of the equation which is
    not good.

The lives lost equations is 4000 + of our most brave
Americans being palyed as pawns in some very wickedly
sick rich people's chess game. That equates to 11
armed service personal being killed in Iraq every day.
This does not include the staggering amounts of death,
    of the Iraqi people.

And we can take it one step further
Let us take the people in the USA who live on the
poverty level of the economic step ladder.
In the year 2000 there were 27 mil people living in
poverty with about an average of 27 children dyeing
every day because of that fact. that equates to 9855
children dead every year in the USA so lets take that
even further roughly about 49275 since the beginning of
the invasion/occupation. But that number could
possibly be even higher since we now have 35 mil
people who live in poverty today, in The USA.
Now we all must all be just deaf, dumb and blind
either by choice, ignorance or lack of information by
    main stream media.

Or let us just look at a simple thing as bridges in
    disrepair in The USA
Of the country's nearly 600,000 bridges, 26% were
    found structurally deficient or "functionally
obsolete" in a 2006 U.S. Department of Transportation
report. (That equates to 156,000) The condition of
heavily used urban bridges like the one that collapsed
Minn. is even worse: one in three are classified as
aging or unable to accommodate modern vehicle weights
    and traffic volume.
We don't have the funds to fix our bridges and our
    roads in direpair.

What are we building in Iraq?

Rev Jackson (like so many others including those that continue to refer to Sen Obama as "Barry") is tone deaf. They are living like it's 1999, except for one problem ... it is actually 2008 and Prince wrote 1999 oer 15 years ago.

I dont know why Jessie is apologizing. If Barry is bold enough to talk down toward a sitting president then why is he all up at arms when people are not in tone with the change he promotes. Barry has shown no respect for the people who have put in their time before him and in my eyes you have to earn respect before you can receive it. I have always said I will respect the guy's title if he becomes President, but I will never be able to look this person in the eye knowing he has not earn his job outright. Barry has the media not fully reporting the news like they should because they want him president. We have a democratic congress who is refusing to grant any bill that will allow off shore drilling for oil the country so badly needs in order to make a political party look bad and now we are hurting all the way around. So do i feel sorry that Jessie and maybe an entire generation of Black Americans dislike him, no. Barack needs to understand being cocky and thinking he is better then the next person is not the way to someone hearts and for this guy to become president after everything he has shown in character is just crazy. I have more respect for that single mother or father working two jobs to make ends meet then this guy because they are hard working people who doesn't need to protray false claims to get their jobs. It is just mind blowing that the American people are point fingers and blaming people when we need to band together and stop disrespecting one another, solve our problems and lets turn this thing around. If we don't then we are going to look around one day and foreign investors are going to own our house, jobs, cars and a lot of investment interest in our own country. And we will have ourselves to blame for not addressing the issues now.

Mr Jackson's remarks are ironic considering his history of extramarital relationships.

    • Posted By: Nins @ 07/13/2008 12:24:18 AM

You are wright about that. In fact, Jackson might have been feeling guilty about his own illegitimate child, or angry about the fact that he himself was an illegitimate child, when he was ranting against Obama for saying that young black men should stand by their kids.

I can not imagine what could be wrong with Obama saying that. It is true. If blacks want to succeed, they need to nurture their children. It might be obnoxious for a white leader to say that, but for a black one to say it is AWESOME.

Jesse Jackson 's time has come and gone,,he has been accused of sexual harassment, his Rainbow Coalition is nothing more than a shakedown operation,as is Sharpton's.. Their agenda is to maintain the staus quo with the black community,or else the have no bully puplit--Barack's father 's day address as well as Bill Cosby's recent book ring true---of course Malcom X spoke these same words 40 years ago,and we know what happened to him

  • Posted By: xbjllb @ 07/12/2008 8:03:41 PM

As long as Karl Rove is alive, Jesse Jackson's "oldschool" style of politics is dead on the money.

Any clueless DNC youngsters making kissey-poo with the GOP WILL have their nuts cut off, and NOT by Jesse Jackson, but by their new "best friends."

Lay down with vipers; NEVER come up.

Know why McCain wants to distance himself from former Senator Phil Gramm? It's not because of Gramm's obnoxious remarks calling Americans "a nation of whiners" who are in "a mental recession." Those remarks were so ascerbic that they may've been made just to give McCain an excuse to distance himself from Gramm. This issue is a lot deeper than it looks on the surface.

When Gramm was a Senator he was Chairman of the Banking Committee. He pushed through the legislation known as the "Enron Loophole." This loophole allowed US investment banks to bypass Federal regulations governing futures trading, and is the reason why investment banks were able to falsely inflate the prices of oil, wheat, corn and other commodities through massive futures trading, causing your costs of gas, heating oil and food to go through the roof.

Gramm also created the Gramm-Leach-Biley Act, which got rid of the laws that seperate banking, insurance and brokerage activities in America. The Gramm Act was touted as a new way to protect consumer privacy, but the real meat on the Act's bones was banking deregulation. Essentially, this Act did away with laws written after the Great Depression to protect us from another Wall Street/Banking Industry collapse. That's right, Gramm stripped the system of it's safe guards nine years ago, and guess what? The value of the dollar has nose-dived, four major economic institutions have failed, Wall Street is unstable, and we are in a worsening recession.

Notably, the US investment banks that gained the most from the Enron Loophole and from the Gramm Act contributed more than a million dollars to Gramm's campaign.

Currently Gramm is Vice Chairman of UBS, the Swiss Bank that came up with the idea of "death bonds." Worse, though, UBS is involved in a scam where they sold auction rate securities to American customers. Auction rate securities are supposed to be as safe as cash, but the way UBS did it, the fees garnished by their in-house investment bankers were intentionally higher than the return on the securities, ripping off their American customers. The Massachusetts Attorney General has already filed charges against UBS, and private brokers world-wide have dropped UBS stock. UBS is forecasted to lose 82.91% of it's value in 2008. We are talking about the corporate bank where Gramm is Vice Chairman. Looking at his track record there and at the havoc he has wrought on the US economy through the Senate Banking Committee, it's clear that either Gramm is a criminal or grossly incompetent.

Now McCain wants nothing to do with Gramm, wants us to forget Gramm has been a key player on McCain's team. Gramm was McCain's campaign CO-CHAIR and LEADING ECONOMIC ADVISOR. Previously, McCain had said that he planned to appoint Gramm as SECRETARY OF THE TREASURY.

With Gramm as McCain's leading economic advisor, now you know why economists and analysts say that McCain's economic policy plans are untenable.
