Comment: Thewhitesmiter, where are your basic manners? I recommend you better do your homework on Amma before you hurl anymore insults on her. Do visit Amma's website. You will have much to gain especially in terms of being a more pleasant and kind human being.

Comment: Comment: AMMA is the epitome of all humanity in this world already torn apart by all sorts unfairness and discrimination. Amma will not challenge anyone but empower any child who comes to her just like how GOD will.

Comment: Thewhitemiter is such a foolish, intolerant stupido. If you do not believe in Hinduism, then just don't believe in it. But please don't downplay it by making such ignorant comments. How is it that the first thing you recognize about a highly spiritual person (obviously more spiritual than you because the first thing you seem to notice about Amma is that she is "fat.") is her appearance? Just goes to show the materialistic, celebrity-driven world that we live in...seriously, why is it that we must start placing labels on spiritual masters like we do to celebrities. Life is way more than those stupid celebrities people look up to and try to emulate. If girls emulated people like Amma, then maybe the whole issue of anorexic young girls and women would not be an issue!!!! And Hinduism is just as good as any other religion, even Christianity. So, take your stupidity and shove it somewhere else because Hinduism has been around even longer than Christianity has. Amma is a highly spiritual person that you better not try to deride.

Comment: This article was very unprofessional for a magazine of such stature. Amma won the Ghandi King prize for non-violence in 2003. She frequently addresses the UN. She fed and clothed 50,000 homeless Tsunami victims within 24 hours of the disaster, before the governments could even figure out what to do. Surely a little bit of research would have told you this. She also hugs up to 120,000 people during 24+ hour straignt 'darshans' in India with no break, and looking just as refreshed and joyful after 24 hours as when she started 24 hours earlier. I think only one of a saintly stature would be able to do that. Most of what you call 'groupies' are volunteers helping out with the events so that they can remain free to the public..Please go to amma.org for a full biography and background.

Comment: I thought that this article was thoughtful, well written, and informative. Thanks to Grace Wyler's in depth reporting, I am happy to say that I am a proud owner (and current wearer) of a brand new "The Amma" swimsuit!

Comment: I just visited one of her sites and noticed that's she fat. I've never seen a fat saint before. Isn't it a sin to eat too much or do Hindus believe that's okay because they have a god with an elephant 's head?

Comment: Well what was so "amazing" about it? Why don't you write about it if you did as you say go to it? Did you get the warm fuzzies from hugging her or did you become instantly enlightened or did it only put you in a mood to be repetitious?

Comment: Very poorly written article. With not so very good English and no hify understanding, I think i can come up with better article, an article useful to the readers. Please do some check before releasing such articles. Such a huge and amazing event and this all this article writer could come up with. Please visit www.amritapuri.org or www.amma.org to find out more about AMMA before writing about Her. Thank you

Comment: Yes this article was poorly written. There could've been more like for example why do people think it's so important to hug this particular celebrity as opposed to say Arnold Scwarzeneggar and if celebrities could hug more people and be more charitable would the Indians think of them as saints as well? Another thing-after she hugs people, do they become enlightened all of a sudden just from touching the hem of her robe or do they just feel the warm fuzzies for a day or two and then go back to being their nasty, miserable selves?

    Comment:
Not everyone who goes to see Mata Amritanandamayi understands Her work just as those who could see Jesus when he was alive did not understand His work. Clearly the person who wrote this article did not understand. Would they have said that the Dalai Lama has groupies or a fan base? Ms. Wyler showed poor journalistic skills niether researching her subject nor checking her facts. Amaa does not have a tm after her name, there are not swimsuits for sale, and her projects encompass everything from hospitals to orphanages to pension payments for widos. . She was the only NGO that actually built good houses for the tsunami victims during the year after the tradgedy. I expected better journalistic work from this magazine.

Comment: The article about Mata Amritananada Mayi was shocking to many of us who have been fortunate to know about her and her activities across the globe. It reperesented a style of journalism which was at once superflous and pointless. Although it provided many a glimpse of Amma's activities the article was far from the standards expected from a magazine of your repute.

Comment: Amma's charitable organizations are so vast throughout the world that you could easily fill several full pages in a Newsweek article, in the attempt to cover them all. Also I had to laugh at the various articles mentioned that are sold to support her charitable organizations. I have gone to see Amma's free programs for the past eight years and have never seen a swimsuit. However, I could be wrong. This year I bought malas (prayer beads), various products made with Tulasi -- a plant with healing qualities, beautiful fabrics, aromatherapy products, along with some DVD's of her speeches she has addressed to various world-renowed groups. I am so grateful we have a woman as a prominent spiritual leader in the world today. Amma's love has been demonstrated to us through her unselfish, and superhuman ability to give. She does this for the sole purpose of the healing and upliftment of the world. Her level of giving is also a demonstration to the rest of us -- that if we could give even 1/100th of what she does, then the world would be changed in amazingly positive ways.

Comment: I think you need to do a little more research and report the true scope of her charitable activities they are much vaster than "a hospital in India and soup kitchens in the United States" even with the proviso "include".

Comment: I've been amazed by Amma's ability to give love and demonstrate love through the power of one simple act: a hug. Imagine what the world would become if everyone dedicated one day to do the same gesture. It would change lives, and the world, in a very unexpected but needed way.
