Why Vietnam Loves McCain

They jailed him for five years. Now they want him in the White House.

Comment: This discussion, and any discussion on Vietnam for that matter, is mired in myth and bias. To date, America is unable to cooly analyze this part of its history, which started as a myth, caused unimaginable suffering on all sides, and then -- grotesquely -- perpetuated itself beyond any recognition of objective as well as moral truth. The original Newsweek story and the ensuing "debate" are so transparently inundated with bizarre archetypes that it doesn't matter what anyone says.

Comment: The bigger question is that Lt. Commander John Sidney McCain the third only flew no more then 25 hours of combat mission bombing mostly civilian targets in Hanoi and other parts of N. Vietnam and yet the US Navy and DOD decorated him with 28 medals. His earlier merits and record is that he graduated $486 out 0f 489 in his class at the Naval Academy. His class mates contend, that his graduation was a favor to his heritage of being a son and grand son of admirals. During McCain's naval aviator training, he destroyed four aircraft, unprecedented in Naval History. The first incident was when he over shot the runway at his base and ended up in the gulf of Mexico. The second time Mexico.Thesecond time when ThsssThesecond time, when flying

Comment: Nations around the World including Germany are Excited to See Barack Obama.....

Watch the Masses in each Country, that come out to see this Man...Watch and See !!

Visiting Countries is not something you have to EARN...If that were the Case, what was John McCain doing in Columbia or Mexico ...Hmmmm as well as Visiting Iraq an confusing Shia & Sunni for Muslim Extremist or Al-Queda !!

McCain Scolds obama on not visiting Iraq, yet has Not Visited Afghanistan, in Over 2 Years !!

Yet McCain says "He Knows how to Win Wars" when in Fact, McCain has NEVER been Involved in a Successful War Campaign as a Naval Pilot or having a War Strategy or Formula Implemented...Ever

So Much for McCain's "War Experience" and his "Knowledge On Winning Wars"

I Did'nt know that Viet Nam was a Successful War Effort ? I thought we Lost that War and thats why the Viet Nam Nation is Still (Communist)

Note: And in Spite of it all, The USA still does Big Business in, Still Very Communist, Yet Now Capitalist .....Viet Nam !!!

McCain went to London, No Hoopla !!

McCain also went to Iraq under... Heavily Gaurded & Armed Security.

Though McCain Lied to Wolf Blitzer and said, a Person could Walk the Streets without Security and that general Patraeus wealks the streets without Heavily Armed Security, until the following day, General Patraeus Staff Dispelled Such BLATANT & FLAGRANT LIES !!

This International Tour will Expose how Popular this Man (Obama) is All Around the World and Mccain, His Surrogates, his Rep. Party and John McCain, Can't Stand it, because it Exposes the World's Embrace of a Fresh and New American Visionary Leader.

Note: D'Mitry Medvedev is only (42 yrs. Old) and is a Highly Educated Lawyer, with No Military or KGB Background, yet he is Russia's New President.

    Barack is 46

So much for John McCain's "Military Experience"

That Experience is going to be put to the TEST in November...Wheres the Experience John...

How many LIVES in Viet Nam, did you SAVE...War Heroe...

How much Classified Information, did you Devulge, to the Viet Cong... John

George W. Bush Jr. what Military Experience did he have ?

    So Much for "Military Experience"

    Bah Hum Bug !!!

Jim Webb & Wesley Clarke...Real Viet Nam Heroes...

John McCain: Graduated Last in his Class, No Military Command in Viet Nam, 6 Wrecked Planes, Air Plane Shot Down, Becomes a VIET NAM POW, Semi-Tortured an when the Viet Cong, realized they had a Navy Admirals son, they gave him Special Treatment, Mccain Devulged Classified Information to the Enemy and those same Jailers in Viet Nam Endorse him Today...

    Things that make you go....Hmmmmm

Comment: I found the article on Why Vietnam likes McCain a great fantasy. I just returned from a four week trip to Southeast Asia including over a week in Vietnam (Hanoi and Saigon). Everywhere I went everyone was very up on the American political race. Without any exception, I found ALL women preferred Hillary (this was prior to the end of the campaign). On a river in the back roads west of Hanoi, a canoe of high school girls pulled along side to ask "what about Pennsylvania?" Everywhere we went: (Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Cambodia) everyone we met had an opinion and NOT one person supported McCain. In fact, many expressed fear of him and remember his comments about leaving Vietnam too soon. BTW: Vietnam today is much of what we fought to achieve, -- freedom of information (CNN and world papers are readily available on the street), freedom to travel (except the US puts limits on Vietnamese visiting here), ownership of property, open worship of religion including Christianity (there is a beautiful, huge new Catholic Church/cathederal just north of Hanoi). Too many older Vietnamese they view McCain as we do terroists in this country. Here was a man shot down while bombing non military and mostly civilian targets and rice fields. (Shouldnt we have learned by now that "shock and awe' on increases the determination of those recipients? The younger generation is a lot less angry at the US. They have had two wars since "The American War" -- against the Khemer Rouge and against China so like many Americans those earlier wars were a different generation.

Comment: The issue with most of these comments is they assume the Vietnamese people are somehow less intelligent, less mature, less thoughtful than Americans. The Vietnamese I know are just as well informed as the Americans--probably more so because they are not subjected to Fox.

Comment: I was in Vietnam this spring for 3 weeks with my school. We traveled from HCMC to Hanoi. I had a discussion with a group of university students called Saigon Hotpot who give excellent free tours in exchange for the chance to practice English with Americans. I was asked who I supported and I told them Obama. They expressed a preference for Hillary because of her husband's policies toward Vietnam and their horror that McCain might win. I did not have time to ask what bothered them about McCain so I could only speculate. While my conversation was only with a few students in one city and not a scientific poll, it does represent a Vietnamese opinion that is at odds with the author of this article.

Comment: Clinton is asking for money, not to retire her debt but to add to her 2012 campaign fund. Read below.

Has any of you received an email like this one?

Hillary Clinton Asks To Keep Donor Money for 2012
    July 14, 2008
    By Jason Horowitz

Hillary Clinton???s campaign is sending out letters to donors asking permission to roll a $2,300 contribution to Clinton???s 2008 general election coffers to her 2012 senate election fund instead of offering a refund.

The letter, read to me by one recipient, includes a photocopy of a handwritten note from Clinton that says, ???Dear friend, your commitment has meant so much to me over the course of my presidential campaign. You were there for me when I needed you the most and I???ll never forget it. I hope you???ll help me continue to fight for the issues and causes we believe in by filling out the enclosed form in support of Friends of Hillary.???

The form says, ???I hereby verify that my 2008 general election contribution may be designated to the 2012 Senate election. I designate the entire amount to the 2012 primary election. However if I have already contributed to the 2012 primary, I designate any amount in excess of $2,300 to the 2012 general election.???

???If we do not hear back from you by August 28 2008 we will automatically refund your contribution.???

This donor, at least, had no intention of signing. ???Of course I???m going to get my money back,??? the donor told me.

From the PUMA site, but I am going to try to find a verifiable site regarding this. I am also going to post this on Obama's website. If this is true I am pissed, how dare she beg for money to clear up her debt but at the same time ask her donors if they will fund her 2012 election campaign. They should be the ones paying off her debt.

If anyone I thought you would be immune. But since you have invoked Hillary's name....I got an e-mail from her this past week.... it's not HER debt it's OUR debt! Not kidding. Shall we help pay OUR debt?
      Nah...

Comment: Also I am familiar with Ron Moreau and have met him... he would likely see only what he wants to see and hear only what he wants to hear. His reporting is biased and always has been. It's a cute story and it is not representative of my Vietnamese friends or family at all. Dream on Ron, dream on. Of course if you know the Vietnamese at all. Ron does then you know the kind of people they are but having lived for 30 years in Viet Nam and with the Vietnamese don't kid me. They don't know Obama, yet, but they will. He is a fine person and the people who bother to read the facts know it.

"But there was one subject that was off-limits, a subject the Arizona senator almost never brings up and has never been open about ??? his long-time opposition to releasing documents and information about American prisoners of war in Vietnam and the missing in action who have still not been accounted for. Since McCain himself, a downed Navy pilot, was a prisoner in Hanoi for 5 1/2 years, his staunch resistance to laying open the POW/MIA records has baffled colleagues and others who have followed his career. Critics say his anti-disclosure campaign, in close cooperation with the Pentagon and the intelligence community, has been successful. Literally thousands of documents that would otherwise have been declassified long ago have been legislated into secrecy."

Hmmmm..... After being captured, he cooperates w/ the N. Vietnamese in spreading anti-US propaganda. He reveals military stategies and US troop locations. After release, he has his records sealed and leads an "anti-disclosure" campaign only affecting HIS files.

Hmmmm.....Once in office, he increases Vietnamese funding by $10.5 billion.

Comment: Well this was an interesting article about what really happened while McCain was POW. That he knows what its like to suffer is undisputable. But for some reason I trust him less than I trust Obama. I personally wish Obama had the military experience McCain does, but I can't bring myself to vote Republican. Sorry. 8 years is too freaking long. And to be honest, I think Obama would make a better with diplomacy. McCain has already demonstrated flying off at the mouth....which is precisely what George W. did at the onset of this war.

I was in the military too. Who knows, I may be drafted one day if things continue forever and ever (like I think they will). I want someone who isn't about wanting a new "Glory Day" from a failed past. Sorry, but being a POW means you failed your mission.

The U.S. election converage here has focused on the Hillary vs Obama battle. I think the official press doesn't know quite what to say about McCain, so they don't say much. They try to disguise it, by interviewing people from counties like North Vietnam who have nothing but good things to say about McCain giving the impression of McCain maybe having made "friends" when he was imprisoned. Since we have more then 260 returned vets & civilians, some with significant injury, and numerous who died in those camps, it's good to know Newsweek has no problem encouraging conspiracy freaks and allowing denial of such an event. What next, holocaust deniers get a full page? And what Vietnam wants in the election isn't relevent. Suprise: Vietnam has no electoral votes.

Actually Vietnam Vets tell a different story

News pundants have elevated McCain to "the most
popular national political figure in the country" by
repeatedly describing him as a "war hero" based on his
refusal accept a communist offer of "early release"
    from captivity.

What the media has carelessly refused to acknowledge
is that the camp's senior ranking U.S. POW (SRO) had
issued unquestionable orders that if a POW was to be
released, "it would be the longest held prisoner"
Because McCain was not the longest held POW, he would
have faced a military court-marshal if he had accepted
    the offer.

In 1949 Dr. Andrew Salter authored Conditioned Reflex

writing The Manchurian Candidate, he asked Dr. Salter
to help "design" the brainwashed character for the
    book and subsequent movie.

More than 40 years later, in 1992, during the C-SPAN
broadcasts of the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA
Affairs, Dr. Salter watched the hearings from his New

McCain's overly aggressive and angry behavior toward
witnesses, especially family members of men still
missing in action. After a few hours he called a
friend telling her, "the signs are all there, I'm

During the Senate Select hearings, McCain opposed all
efforts by the POW/MIA families and activists to have
the Select Committee expand its investigation to study
how successful the Vietnamese, Soviet, Chinese and
Cuban interrogation apparatuses were at exploiting
    American prisoners of war.

    Soviets."

Former KGB Maj. Gen. Oleg Kalugin testified during the
hearings that the KGB did interrogate U.S. POWs in
Vietnam. Kalugin stated that one of the POWs worked on
by the KGB was a "high-ranking naval officer," who,
according to Kalugin, agreed to work with the Soviets
upon his repatriation to the United States and has
    frequently appeared on U.S. television.

Col. Bui Tin, a former Senior Colonel in the North
Vietnamese Army, testified on the same day, but after
Usry, that because of his high position in the
Communist Party during the war he had the authority to
"read all documents and secret telegrams from the
politburo" pertaining to American prisoners of war. He
said that not only did the Soviets interrogate some
American prisoners of war, but that they treated the
    Americans very badly.

McCain stunned onlookers at the hearing when he moved
to the witness table and physically embraced Col. Tin
as if he was a long, lost brother.
