    Freedom of religion. One of the greatest virtues of America. Frankly, though, Obama's religion should not play a factor in weather or not he should be president. Can he lead? Can he take on attacks by the media without his positions being swayed? Does he have character? Yes, yes and hell yes.
    The fourth question of telling the truth is an iffy one ( I know you were all waiting for the punch line). One thing he is NOT is a christian. This is where religion WILL play a factor. Not because of the religion he decided would be most appealing to voters, but because he can stand their straight faced and say he is a Christian. The term christian is thrown around so loosely in this country. A Christian believes that Jesus Christ is God in the flesh. A Christian believes Sexual Immorality is a sin. A Christian believes that God created life and abortion breaks on of the 10 Commandments, Thou shalt not murder, in the name of 'freedom of choice'. A Christian believes that the government's role in a persons life should be LIMITED to protecting Americas borders. To say the health care, schooling, housing etc. should be provided by the government and on the back of those who work hard to become successful is to deny God. Deny God that he will keep his word and take care of His people. A true Christian is no loose term at all. There is only ONE belief, ONE road, ONE walk of faith to be a True Christian. All other beliefs is NON-Christian. Im not saying it is the right or wrong religion, everyone has the freedom of religion no matter what religion they choose. No True Christian can dictate which religion someone should choose, but there is only one walk of faith to be a True Christian and that is not the walk of faith of Obama. He is NO Christian, at all what so ever. A leader, firm in beliefs and charismatic, Yes. Truthful and a Christian. a very enthusiastic NOT, NO WAY and just plain NO.

    There's a better article on Obama and his faith written by the same people here on Newsweek and it is interview style so it is more in Obama's own words and not someone else interpretting what he believes or what they think he believes. Check it out.

    From reading this one is led to conclude that Obama is close, if not in point of fact, a Deity. Is the Obama Campaign underwriting Newsweek or is it the other way around?
    I see yet another Lawyer, without a body of work or semblance of accomplishment, being rammed into prominence as a potential President by a fawning leftist series of media outlets. The man is as empty as the text of his speeches.

      Omarr What would you think of a white person if they sat in a church for twenty yers and listened to hate filled sppech about black people? Or what would you say about a white person that described someone as a typical black person.? would you not think they hate black people? Well I too think that Obama is a racist against white people. I don't care if he is part white. I will never vote for him for this reason.

        Why did he join this church? That question has yet to be answered. Mr. Obama has been ducking and diving that question. The truth seems to escape most politicians and the same goes for Mr. Obama.

    This is still lots of pretty words with ambiguous meanings. It's a one size fits all religious mentality that basically has no content- appealing to many, leaving all doors open with still litlle insight to what he really believes. A PR approach to Obama's religion is what this article should be titlee.

    STOP THE HYPOCRISY! If the single, most important, all consuming reason anyone would vote for a candidate is whether he is YOUR BRAND of christian, then by golly you deserve to get crooks and liars, deceivers and hoodwinkers in public service like what we have now in the Bush Administration! IF you do not know this, you have not been paying attention, and should just vote for McCain and shut up already!

    There is nothing to suggest that Obama is not a good person. There is simply not enough information about him to form an opinion. Most of his ardent followers are estatic about his candidacy because they have unresolvable problems with Prez Bush. Some are young people whose hormones are flooding the underdeveloped parts of their brains that house experience and judgment. Others because he is black - pure and simple. Obama has a pretty clean slate other than his association with some very unsavory characters and the tragedy of his religious quest ending up in Wright's church. If he was so intellectually introspective and thoughtful about his religious yearning - why in the world would he pick a pastor who thinks that the USG invented aids to kill black people and who uses profanity from the pulpit?

      While you present a decent argument, you fail to mention that Obama's Candidacy pulls the higher educated, and better well off, period.

      I find it odd that many Non-Obama supporters like to imply that Obama's supporters are somehow confused. When in reality, the demographics prove we are the most informed.

    Mccain has Attended a Ariz. Baptist Church for 15-20 Years, yet is Not Baptized and is Not Recognized by this church a a member, becaue of his refusal to be Baptized....

    ABOARD THE STRAIGHT TALK EXPRESS (CNN) ??? John McCain, who rarely talks about his faith publicly, discussed some of his religious beliefs with reporters Wednesday - including the question of whether he might consider being baptized again.

    The presumptive Republican nominee talked with journalists traveling with him from Kentucky to West Virginia about his home congregation, North Phoenix Baptist Church.

    "Pastor Dan Yeary has a message I enjoy and appreciate," he said, adding that he and his family have "grown close to [Yeary] over the years" and that he tried to attend services at the church whenever he was home in Arizona.

    "The message that Dan Yeary conveys of Christian love and redemption is one that I welcome," said McCain. "And I'm always spiritually helped and assisted when I attend those church services, as I think most Americans are when they attend church services."

    The Arizona senator, who was raised an Episcopalian, has attended North Phoenix for nearly two decades, but is not a member because he has not been baptized into the church.


    On Wednesday, he told reporters that he had been baptized in Panama, where he was born, and talked about a photo in his memoirs of himself as a baby in a baptismal gown, with his father and grandfather.

    "It's like a dress," he chuckled.

    But he was more guarded about his current plans with regard to baptism, calling them "a private thing."

    Ithink all that Obama spoke of during this interview was very heartwarming. I for one think the man is someone who has enough in his background to understand the plight of majority of Americans. I just wish people would stop thinking they are better than others and just follow the "Golden Rule" Do and treat others as you woyld have others treat and do to you. I believe wholeheartedly Obama lives by this. People, let's come together and stop bashing everything that does not conform to our personal ideas. We are all one no matter what color we are or what religion we choose to follow. It's all good, and it is all in Divine Order - we the people just need to wake up. Face it, things cannot get too much worse with a change in our government. so instead maybe it could get better - we NEED someone to bring about even a little change in how our politicians control our nation. I for one am all for Obama. I desire kindness, understanding, proper speech, and someone that shows a heart for us and his family, someone who can lead serious talks with other nations and make them feel comfortable and come across with class and knowledge of there point of view and I believe Obama can do this. So he isn't a seasoned politician - I am glad - but he is world traveled and a seeker. He probably has more knowledge than predecessors before him how to deal with different people. GO OBAMA!!!!

      I would not care if the man WAS GREEN he has no experience to be president.Just because he visited other countries as a child does NOT GIVE HIM EXPERIENCE to run a country. We have visited many countries and I do not think visiting a country gives you experience to run one.If that's all ittakes maybe i should runf forpresident, I am as qualified as he is.

    The "burden" of being single-minded or child-like in believing in Christ, is portrayed as being "easy" in comparison to the confusion that the "wise and learned" labor under, who in the face of the physical evidences could not accept what was so evident to those who became and continue to become true discilpes. (Mt. 11:20-30) This is the dilemma when you introduce logic into the YOUR quest to define your God. Who's at the center? God or Barack?
