    Obama has for most of his life scrutinzied the principles of being. He's getting there, however, he has to remember that religion and salvation is an individual process that involves the person initially and then transends to the home and eventually to the community resonating in a worldwidw effect of change and hopefully a better understanding of who we are and what is expected of us. Religion is not he deciding factor here, it is the man behind the belief and eventually what his morals will be and the effect it will have when put to the test. From Canada

    Obama is a child of the 1960's, when all major churches started overhauls and left many faithful believers in the lurch. Having multiple religions to fall back on in his journey through life is I believe a good thing. Understanding and accepting others beliefs makes for a more well rounded and wiser person, than someone who blindly follows a given set of rules, right or wrong.

    It is not as much as what one says as what one does. Obama voting record as senator speaks the loudest. I just wonder why no mention of why he voted the way he did was brought up in this news article. Instead of all this flowery speech lets look at the truth, what does he stand for??? It is in his senate voting recard, his refusal to salute the flag or wear one until it jeopardized his campaign. How about asking why he stayed at Rev Wrights church all those years if he does so vehemently disagree with his views, since it ow jeopardizes his campaingn...very convenient to distance himself AFTER THE FACT. Seems that news reporting should not be one side or the other, but you hae certainly left out, as Paul Harvey used to say...THE REST OF THE STORY.

    Obama's religious background should not be a factor in the 2008 Presidential race. A person should be measured by their own merits and character, not race, gender, sexual orientation etc. It is a shame that we still live in an age where people feel the need to judge each other on external factors and smear one's character with false, malicious slanderous lies. One will say "America is a Christian Nation". This is simply a total falsehood... Our Nation's had Christians, Diests and people of other belief systems. As the worlds 'melting pot' and a Nation that believes in religious freedom and tolerance, it is time we remember this fact and quit judging each other, agree to disagree and instead focus on who the best person is to be the next leader of out great Nation and hold true to our core values as a strong and diverse people.

We've been lied to by the so-called experts and talk show hosts. There is only one way and that is through Jesus and Jesus only. We don't like to be responsible for the wrong choices we've made so we choose anything that will not interfere with our "freedom to pursue happiness." Whatever freedoms we have left were given to us by Bible believing founding fathers not deists as we've been led to believe. If you want the truth ask Jesus into your heart and He will give it to you, I guarantee it. Your life will change for the better. But it is a relationship with Him not a religion to be able to communicate with Him.

    I have a concern, not mentioned here. Islam teaches that if an individual renounces the faith, that individual should be slain. If Senator Obama has renounced his Islamic heritage, is he then not slated for death by some Muslim fundamentalist?

    I would like to see our candidates' religious beliefs become more or less smoldering background information rather than center-stage fodder for criticism.

    Separate Church from State and keep it that way in the political race. You can find constructive ways to work together but don't a judge a candidate by his faith. Obama has obviously given more thought in his shorter lifetime to his religion than Bush or McCain't have together in their longer lives. The shallow shall NOT inherit the Earth. Let the deep thinkers be our leaders for a change.

    That would rule out any of the GOP as far as I know.

      I'm with you. Give me a deep thinker, of whatever religion, who has a goal of turning this Country around. It is so funny how all of these so-called "Christians" all believe that their particular interpretation of the scriptures is correct and everyone else is misguided or misinformed. Christians cannot even agree with each other, how can they agree on a candidate of faith? BTW, Rev. Wright only began his damning sermons post 9-11 (which is understandable to most of us). The church has a long and wonderful history of serving its community and having very mainstream Christian sermons on a week-by-week basis. Unless these commenters have actually attended that church, they should shut up about it. I'm with Obama all the way personally. WF, 52, middle wage earner in AZ
