Glad that Newsweek is exposing all the misbeliefs about Obama's Christian Faith to the public at large. For too long, many have been confused that he is a Muslim or some other faith.

He is obviously a very deeply thoughtful person with a truly religious/spiritual outlook. I find Obama's brand of Christianity a LOT MORE BELIEVABLE than Bush's - for example. The latter only converted to Xtianity (Fundamentalism) after spending much of his adult life doping and drinking. He suddenly "saw the Light" and became Born Again. Wow. That's impressive. A Playboy-drunk turns good and becomes our President.

Give me an "elitist" intellectual with a good heart and his thoughts in the right place any day over another dumb playboy (McCain).

    Thanks - Enjoyed the article!

I am a fundamentalist, bible-whacking, waiting for Jesus Christian. Just because you "accept Jesus in your heart and turn from drinking and womanizing" doesn't give you a direct pipeline to God's wisdom. Sending our children to horrific and needless deaths, only to blow up pregnent women to pieces in Iraq without a shred of cause is about as Anti-Christain an act as it gets.

I've never said this before about anyone, but if anyone is in danger of eternal damnation, it is George Bush. He is blinded by Right-wing politics and his ego. He really need to study Christian Philosophy.

No one has done so much to damage our wonderful country than this fool. It may be permanent and too late.

Ignorant American people. A good candidate changes their position based on experience and present conditions and not on a whelm or for political expediency. Experience takes many weeks, months and years and must be thoroughly analyzed before you decide to change your mind on important issues. Changing your mind in just a few hours or a few days is called flip flopping and that is an appropriate name for it. We need a president that examines history and past practices very carefully before he changes his mind and changes policy for this country. We don't need someone that flows with the tide and looks at polls to make decisions. Yes, we need someone that listens to the people, but in some cases, based on information that can't be made public, the president must use his/her good judgement.

Obama is controlled and told what to say and where he stands on a particular issue by his election staff. These people determine what the public wants to hear or where the other candidate stands on an issue, and then tells Obama what to say to the voters. Obama reads directly from a teleprompter most of the time and says exactly what his staff has come up with. He sounds like a great politician, but in fact he is just a robot with a lot of shrewd politicians behind him who have created a new political figure. Don't get caught up in their rhetoric and make an important decision that you will REGRET for the rest of your life.

Americans deserve to know the truth about oil and gasoline prices and where the fault lies.

Price of oil when Bush took office - $29

Price of oil when democrats took over Congress - $51

        Price of oil today, July 11, 2008 - $145

Price of gasoline when Bush took office - $1.60

Price of gasoline when Democrats took over Congress - $2.34

        Price of gasoline today, July 11, 2008 - $4.30

During the first 58 months of Bush's term in office, the price of a barrel of oil increased by $22 and a gallon of gasoline increased by $0.64! In the last 20 months of Bush's term in office, since the Democrats took control of Congress, the price of a barrel of oil increased by $94 and a gallon of gasoline increased by $1.96.

Now, who do you think is more responsible for gasoline prices being so high? Let me clue you in! Speculators are accused of being responsible for high oil prices. But, why would they be blamed? Their intelligence tells them that increased US oil drilling will never be allowed under a Democrat controlled Congress and our dependency on foreign crude will continue to rise. They are not stupid!!

Some ignorant Americans are going around saying that oil companies are not drilling on millions of acres that they have leased. That is a lie!! They are drilling dry hole after dry hole. There is not much oil there to be found. The oil companies know where the oil is and where it would be profitable to drill. Why are we telling them where to drill and where not to drill? Because our Congress contains a bunch of elite politicians that can afford high gas prices since the tax payers pay their expenses.

Congress needs to act on legislation immediately to open up offshore drilling and ANWR drilling. This Congress is killing the American people. Their approval rating is down to 9% and if anymore Democrats are elected, it could go to 0%. If the U.S. commits to using our own resources rather than depending on foreign countries, the price of oil would drop immediately! OPEC cannot afford to lose a big spender like the U.S.! The LOUD AND PROUD AMERICANS need to take action immediately and persuade Congress to get off their hands and accomplish something to help the American people now and in the future.

The Republicans passed an energy bill and Clinton vetoed it. Clinton said that it would take ten years to get the oil to the market. That was twelve years ago and look where we are today. Sound familiar?

Thats the problem with couple of generations raised on TV and pap psychology, we are raising a gullible, narcisstic nation that cannot do simple math or can't answer basic history or civics questions. My problem is the Democratic Pary's use of Abortion rights as a litmus test, not Obama. It will be interesting to see how he governs if elected.

More holy words from the Messiah...............

"I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on Earth. Obama has experienced many points of view before finding his own. I really respect that. That shows that he has the ability to think for himself and not be run by convention. This shows him as a real leader. There are going to be people on all sides that will try and make this about his race, his non religious background, his previous minister etc. How many people do you know that have lead a so called perfect life? Honestly, I would be afraid to meet them. They have not had to think about the meaning of life or how they can become a better person. Moreover, a real leader has the ability to see all sides of a problem and then take action. We have had eight years where are leaders are blind to anything other than their own beliefs. Look where it has gotten us: war, recession, and a reputation that has been tarnished around the world, and still no capture of Bin Lauden. I hope we can get beyond name calling and fear mongering and get to the real issues. There are big differences between Mc Cain and Obama in the direction they want to take our country. I see "hope" with Obama. I dont see anything but four more years of the same with McCain.

I'm on my own faith journey and I'm searching," he says. "I leave open the possibility that I'm entirely wrong."
----------------------------------The story of Obama's faith begins ...

You just have to wonder where these people come from--How can you write in one line "I leave open the possibility that I'm entirely wrong" and in the next line you write " The story of Obama's faith begins" etc, etc.??

I mean --which is it ??? Does he have faith or is he confused? Or is this writrer confused? Now I'm confused! But really man--if you have faith you don't leave the door open for other possibilities! At least not where I come from...but who knows, today that may be OK--ride the ol' fence. There is no right or wrong(left) !

Untrue! We are incapable of imaging God in any but the most rudimentary way. Our ability to know is severely limited by our intellect. String theory posits up to 13 dimensions, which are required for it to balance the equation that encompasses all the observed phenomema on a macro- and micro-level, and yet we can only grasp 4. We are time-bound creatures, for one thing, only capable of moving in one direction in time. So OF COURSE there may be other possibilities that are beyond our comprehension today. Any intelligent person will admit this. It does not preclude you from having faith. No one needs to be "confused".

    WELL, I FEEL , OBAMA,
IF YOU ARE SEARCHING THEN WHATS WRONG WITH SEARCHING THE SCRIPTURES? I WOULD LIKE IF YOU WOULD GO TO A QUIET PLACE, AND SINCE I SEE THAT YOU PRAY(IM NOT SO SURE TO WHOM), BUT IF YOU ASK GOD, THE FATHER IN HEAVEN AND FATHER OF JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF, ASK HIM TO REVEAL HIMSELF TO YOU. IN THE SCRIPTURES. MOST START IN JOHN3, BUT YOU COULD PROBABLY READ ROMANS CHAPTER 1 THRU CHAPTER 11 AND SEE JUST WHAT CHRIST DID FOR YOU. NO OTHER HAS DONE SUCH A THING FOR ANYONE. ...SEEKING YOU SAY YOU ARE. THEN DO IT. SEEK FOR TRUTH. HE IS THE TRUTH AND HE WILL INDEED REVEAL HIMSELF TO YOU. "JUST BELIEVE" I WILL PRAY FOR YOU.
THIS WORLD IS SEEKING........BUT ITS SEEMS NOT FOR TRUTH. WE AS PEOPLE NEED TO BE OF TRUTH. GOD BLESS YOU.

YOu hit the nail on the head. He is wary of offending anyone! Jesus was not only aware that he would offend, he admonished his disciples that they would have trouble because they believed in him.

The Secular Humanist Doctrine of the Democratic (progressive socialist) party cannot tolerate the Christianity that Ghandi proclaimed. Neither can Muslims, Buddists, or any other "religion". Jesus procalimed relationship, not traditions or methods of worship. Obama just doesn't get it. We are not looking for a Messiah, he has alresdy come. We are looking for someone to proclaim the Gospel, and live it. Obama and McCain have quite a job ahead- that is demonstrating that the Hand of the iving god IS upont them.......that they are ordained by God to lead this Nation.

With the way Obama changes his stance whenever politically needed and his lack of core beliefs, one must conclude that either:
    a. he will say anything to get elected
    or
    b. he has a secret agenda
    or
    both.
I know this sounds conspiracy oriented, but the fact speak for themselves.
Empty suit or dangerous agenda, either way God help us if he is elected

First of all how do you know he graduated 894 out of 899? I was in the military and those records are protected by privacy laws so they are not public record. As for not voting for a new GI bill, what else was attached to to bill? A lot of times Senators will try to attach bad items to a bill to try to get them passed with a good bill. Perhaps you should look that up. His economic adviser my of pushed for the deregulation of banks but he certianly didn't cause this by himself. It takes the majority vote to make that happen. I believe you will find that the democrates now control both houses not the rupublicans. You really should try to get the facts before you slander some ones good name.

    • Posted By: lee226 @ 07/13/2008 1:57:52 PM

I think you need to look it up, you are making this stupid assertion about Obam and I am giving you what it is publick knowledge.
The GI bill was passed a week ago and the president did not recognized Webb for writing it and pushing for it, he is a Vietnam Vet. McCain was mentioned by the president and he was against and did not wanted to vote for it. Reason was that if we gave the opportunity to go to college on that BILL we would loose too many soldiers. I guess patriotism only works without the GI bill?
Go online and look for the issues. I spent a lot of time reading to find the truth and it is time we become informed rather than mis-informed. McCain has no problem misleading the voters, he thinks we have no time to read and find the truth or too stupid to understand it.

Your "Semi-Senile Mesiah" Mundane John McCain is in No Position to claim himself a "Christian"

John McCain: A Man that attended, or so he claims, to have attended a Arizona baptist Church, for the Past 20 years, yet REFUSES to be BAPTIZED !!!

John McCain: This same Senator John McCain, is NOT RECOGNIZED as a Member of this Arz. Baptist Church, based on his REUSAL to being BAPTIZED.

John McCain: This same senator who says he was Christened as a Child and that his Decision to being Baptized is a "Personal Matter"

This Arizona Baptist Church STILL REFUSES to LIST MCCAIN as a MEMBER of it's Church as well as say he's a "BAPTIST CHRISTIAN" because of his REFUSAL TO BEING BAPTIZED....

Obama has been Baptized and claim Jesus as his Lord and Savior...

I'd love to see a Random Question asked by one of his Town Hall Set Ups, to ask John McCain to Profess with his Tongue, that Jesus is His Lord and Savior....

He'd Sh!t in his Pants, after Saying, Its a "Personal Matter"

So Much for Damian, I mean Mundane John McCain !!!

    Hahahaha !!!!

      Hey Omaar,
      You are terribly misinformed.
In order for one to be a "member" of ANY Baptist church, All you have to do is "join" the church. You DO NOT have to be baptized into the church to be considered a member.
You are only baptized when you profess before the entire congregation (and the world) that you have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal saviour.
Being baptized has absolutely nothing to do with becoming or being a member of a Baptist Church.
      So, now you know.

Joel Barlow, U.S. Consul General of Algiers

Copyright National Portait Gallery Smithsonian Institution/Art Resource NY
"As the Government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Musselmen; and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."

The preliminary treaty began with a signing on 4 November, 1796 (the end of George Washington's last term as president). Joel Barlow, the American diplomat served as counsel to Algiers and held responsibility for the treaty negotiations. Barlow had once served under Washington as a chaplain in the revolutionary army. He became good friends with Paine, Jefferson, and read Enlightenment literature.

Later he abandoned Christian orthodoxy for rationalism and became an advocate of secular government. Barlow, along with his associate, Captain Richard O'Brien, et al, translated and modified the Arabic version of the treaty into English. From this came the added Amendment 11. Barlow forwarded the treaty to U.S. legislators for approval in 1797. Timothy Pickering, the secretary of state, endorsed it and John Adams concurred (now during his presidency), sending the document on to the Senate.

The Senate approved the treaty on June 7, 1797, and officially ratified by the Senate with John Adams signature on 10 June, 1797. All during this multi-review process, the wording of Article 11 never raised the slightest concern. The treaty even became public through its publication in The Philadelphia Gazette on 17 June 1797.

So here we have a clear admission by the United States that our government did not found itself upon Christianity. Unlike the Declaration of Independence, this treaty represented U.S. law as all treaties do according to the Constitution (see Article VI, Sect. 2).

Although the Christian exclusionary wording in the Treaty of Tripoli only lasted for eight years and no longer has legal status, it clearly represented the feelings of our Founding Fathers at the beginning of the U.S. government.

General speaking who are we to tell someone that they believe in or say that they are lying about their beliefs as well as other things. If we can believe in whatever the Clintons say (when it has been proven without any doubt of their wrong during and lies), we can believe the sky is chocolate brown and people still are willing to vote to put any Clinton in the White House.
I am sure there are many of us that do not agree with everything that the person of god says but at times the message is go and you do believe and/or agree but it depends on how it is delivered (you can always rephrase something) to have the same meaning but is it toned down not to upset anyone.
Also, normally we all should grow up meaning our way of reasoning changes with luck for the better. I honestly believe if giving a chance Senator Obama will make a great President. We are in such a bad fix that if we do not chose the right person for President this country will finish being the biggest laugh in the world.
