McCain's Small-Business Bunk

He claims 23 million small-business owners would pay higher tax rates under Obama. He's wrong. The vast majority would see no change, and many would get a cut.

Carly Fiorina keeps lying about Obama and McCain;s record:
    - She claims McCain voted for birth control to be treated same as Viagra leaving him squirming out of his body.
    - She recently claimed he is open to some taxes on the wealthy.
    - She claims Barack voted for tax increases on those making income over 35,000

All in the effort ot deceive Clinton voters. Meanwile she is a multimillionaire ex-CEO for which the McCain-Bush policies favor to the detriment of the country for the past 8 years.

I saw Carly Fiorina on Meet the Press last Subday repeating the 23 million figure over and over. I guess if you say something enough people will believe it. Oh wait! Isn't that what the present Bush administration has been doiong for the last 7 year.
I love it when someone I don't particularly like calls me "My friend" and then lies to my face. "Straight talk express". Yeah right!

Comment: McCain cannot remember what's what when. He lies big time...and believes he is the straight talk express. McCain's brain is becoming addled, I would say. I'm getting sick and tired of McCains sick, fake smile and that laugh!! Both just as fake as the man himself. McCain is so yesterday, he doesn't even KNOW how to use a computer. McCain has NOT kept abreast of America's progression throughout the years. Giuess that is what happens when you spend so much time in the senate! McCain has had 26 years in which to make things better for America, he has done nothing! Everything McCain is promosinjg you today you will not get, he'll change his stances winin a day or two;. and by next week or two he will totally forget the whole thing. NO McCain, NO McAddledbrain.

I wonder if that is the same smile & laugh that McCain gave his wives while lying to their faces about where he'd been after he came home with a rendevous with any of his many mistresses?

Why I support a Democrat in the WhiteHouse. A letter to Republican Senator Jim Bunning of KY.
    Dear Senator Bunning,
Thank you for your courageous stand today in opposing the administrations unlimited bailout plan for GSE shareholders and bondholders. Unfortunately the current administration and many people in the Republican party have forgotten the policies of fiscal prudence and responsibility and have instead started spending tax payer money on bailouts for Wall Street and on useless wars(the reason for which changes every year).
So I figured if the government is going to recklessly give away my hard earned money, it might as well go to the homeless and underprivileged in this country under a Democratic administration than to Iraqi Sunni Sheiks, Afghan warlords, the Saudis, Russians, Oil executives and Wall street moneychangers as is currently happening with a Republican administration. I do hope this will change and the Republican party would have more people like you but I am not betting on it.

I dont know what is fair about Warren Buffet paying a 15% tax rate when his employees are paying a 30% tax rate. He himself has come out and said that this needs to change. Many hedge fund managers who make hundreds of millions pay a 0% rate. Obama has said no new taxes on amounts below 250,000. I paid AMT last year and am not crying like a baby. Grow up and downsize your extravagant lifestyle.
The idea that cutting taxes on corporations and millionaires will make the average American's life better is not based on either sound economics or common sense. That money only goes to fatten bank accounts of the ultrarich(of whom more and more are Saudis, Russians, Chinese and Indians) and cause speculation in basic commodities.
If people keep falling for the same bullshit and we have another war mongering Republican in the Whitehouse next year even God cant save this country.

Any number of stories I've read describe in detail how cursory McCain's economic/energy policy is.

It's funny to me that McCain will lie right to your face with no fear of retribution from the media.

Will the Real Tax-and-Spender Please ???Fess Up?
    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/13/us/politics/13check.html

???McCain is picking the areas where rates go up and ignoring the areas where Obama is trying to rebalance the tax code so that taxpayers would save,??? said John Irons, research and policy director at the Economic Policy Institute, which is generally viewed as sympathetic to working families. Mr. Irons said that ???the important thing is to look at overall impact on people??? and that on this score.....

???the vast majority of the population, almost the entirety of the middle class, would see more from Obama than McCain.???

Economists have also criticized the methodology behind Mr. McCain???s assertion that Americans from all kinds of backgrounds could end up paying thousands of dollars more in taxes if Mr. Obama got his way. Several criticized him as apparently basing his claim on an average figure in which, as Mr. Irons said, ???Bill Gates is mixed with you and me, and everything gets skewed.???

Contradictions and misstatements short-circuit McCain's energy policy pronouncements.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, personal income from all sources was $10,883 billion in 2006; government social insurance (Social Security & Medicare employer and employee share) was $945 billion, and other government taxes were $1,361 billion. Taxpayers paid 21.2 percent of their total incomes in taxes. About 80 percent of all families make less than $100,000 and pay 25.2 percent to 43.2 percent tax on their earned income. Social insurance 15.2 percent and a beginning federal tax rate of 10 percent and 28 percent for singles over $77,000 and couples over $128,500. Low to moderate-income people are paying 4 percent to 22 percent higher tax rates than the average tax rate of 21.2 percent paid by all taxpayers. Obama is at least making a step in the right direction.

Newsweek is also "parsing" when it discounts the McCain campaign explanation that they are treating the mandatory insurance payments as a "tax" because it is mandated by the government. If the government says you have to pay, it is a tax, even if you aren't paying it to the IRS and then the IRS is distributing it to the insurance companies.

My wife and I run a small business (hair salon) that technically has no employees, as the hair stylists pay us for "booth rent" - however there are 10 of them and they would certainly be out of work if we closed. We would be affected by the increase in payroill tax that Obama proposes, as well as capital gains tax, we may not make enought to be affected by the increased income taxes, but those are still morally wrong - high earners already pay the vast majority of income taxes. many of those who complain about "tax fairness" actually pay no income taxes at all!

    • Posted By: kle5507 @ 07/15/2008 5:31:41 PM

If you have no employees, how will you be affected by the increase in payroll tax that Obama proposes? I too own a business with 10 employees and I support Obama. Given the tax loopholes and deduction, I pay very little taxes. Like Ms. Hemsley correctly stated two decades ago, only the little people pay taxes. Maybe you should consider getting a new accountant.

Typical McBush, his fact check record is awful, one lie after another!

  • Posted By: dboon @ 07/15/2008 11:43:21 AM

'High earners' may pay more overall total tax dollars because the tax rates are relative to income. 15% of 1 million in income is still a magnitude of 10 more than 30% of 50,000. And yes, the highest earners at this time get a tax rate less than people like small hair salon owners. Is it morally or ethically wrong? You decide. I think it's robbery to ask people of modest means to pay more taxes relative to their income than people who can easily afford it. And if you are going to go out of business because you will be taxed fairly, then you need to adjust your business practices and personal lifestyle to better fit the reality that greets our country today.

Same from both sides, Obama exaggerates what McCain says, and McCain does the same. The only difference is that one candidate promised to not to do that and the other one didn't.

You can have your own opinion, but you cannot have your own facts. It sure looks like the McCain camp is trying to pull the wool over some people's eyes. Unfortunately, the sheep follow along.

But Newsweek is a proven mouthpiece for the political left wing (which is why I canceled my subscription after 25 years and switched to US News). So I do not believe a word they say.
