I hope they don't get off...so to speak.

< It reminds them too much of their "unwhiteness." >

Dude, Italians are 100% European. It does not get any more "white" than that. For continental Europeans "race" or skin shade is not as important as for Anglo-Saxons (both American and British). The nationality and culture is important. They hate people form Africa or outh America for the disruption to the social fabric, not for the skin color. A dark-skinned Italian will be treated exactly the same as a light skinned Italian. Being non-Italin may be an issue - but you will be equaly resented wheter you are from Africa or GB or USA.

They don't hate Africans, they don't create vast stereotypes based on skin-tone. Actually, they're not big on North African Arabs, but they say that the Sub Saharan Africans from Senegal, Ghana and the like are actually peaceful people just looking to make a living. Much different from the hateful American who can't stand blacks or the equally bigoted liberal who patronizes people just because their skin is darker and gives them a complex by offering them affirmative action and the like. Such attitudes divide people and prolong prejudice and racism.

Hammie: I appreciate your background and that you lived in Perugia. It's good to know, really. If you re-read what I actually wrote, the comments were not mine, they were what two separate exchange students told me. Obviously, just like in America, there are towns and cities in Italy that are safe. The news media does not write about these, but only about the sensational things that happen to people. My comments were meant to be comments to any student who plans to enter any country foreign to their own, that they should exercise common sense and look at all the facts. What is done is done; Meredith Kercher is a tragic victim and we all mourn her loss and extend our sympathies to her family and friends. What I believe is that we should all try to create some good out of tragic situations that we obviously cannot change. If one mixed-up student reads this article an exercises better judgment than Amanda Knox, it will keep them from getting entangled in this kind of mess. I have not made any comments at all as to whether Amanda is innocent or guilty.

If found guilty all three of these people should recieve the death penalty or life in solitary without parole. This is a sickening crime and needs to be prscuted to the fullest extent of the law.

It's American (European) women like her that give a bad name to all American girls. Everywhere in the world they are considered easy and willing to "put out" for the sake of "fun", beer or drugs, or just to show they are liberal .... Seen it in Cancun, Cozumel, Colombia, Central America, Nice, Cuba, Puerto Rico, etc. Note the involvement of a black ... Local women wouldn't be caught dead with the guys they hang around with ... Are they stupid or what? Don't go too far ... you can see the same thing at the US Salsa clubs .... When they ask me why I don't ask them to dance, I say: First I observe. If I don't like the guys a girl dances with, I won't dance with her ... It works every time. You get what you look for.
This is my opinion and it is based on actual facts of personal involvement and I'm willing to refute any counter-arguments. But I don't have time for that, so don't kill yourself responding to this. Julio, the merengue King ....

comment to juilionw....NOTE THE INVOLVEMENT OF AN IDIOT! ON BEHALF OF ALL BLACK MEN EVERYWHERE I SAY RACIST/JEALOUS IDIOTS LIKE YOU NEED TO BE LINED UP IN FRONT OF A FIRING SQUAD!! IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY BEHIND YOUR WORDS ONE CAN TELL YOU ARE JEALOUS OF BLACK MEN IN THE LATIN NIGHTCLUBS (I BEING ONE OF THEM) AND THAT IS THE REAL REASON WHY YOU WON,T ASK THE LADIES TO DANCE (ALBEIT IT COULD PROBABLY BE DUE ALSO TO YOUR LOOKS). SO LET ME GIVE YOU SOME ADVICE WE ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE, WE WILL CONTINUE TO BE IN THE LATIN NIGHTCLUBS SO EITHER GET LOST OR GET USE TO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SALSERO!!!

    • Posted By: tihi18 @ 07/15/2008 9:31:18 PM

What do you mean "note an involvement of a black....?" That sounds fairly racist. You seem to assume a black is someone to avoid. Which means you are racist and your opinions offer no merit. Besides why would an American want a relationship with some guy she met on vacation? You wanted a meaningful relationship? Yeah right.

I lived in Italy for many years. And I will say that the temperament of many students who study abroad, but especially we Americans, can be really atrocious. Of course, this murder is an extreme case. And we certainly export our media and icons, now we export our crazy sociopaths too. How embarrassing! I hope Italy can forgive another egregious act by Americans, and the family of the British student can find some healing. And I hope students studying in any foreign country remember they are ambassadors for our nation, act as such!

    • Posted By: tihi18 @ 07/15/2008 9:33:46 PM

Wow! You've tried and convicted them.

  • Posted By: cougar97 @ 07/15/2008 9:16:10 PM

Hoenstly? Who gives a sh*t about race in this case? Murder is murder is murder. A young girl was killed for no reason and ALL who are responsible should pay the penalty. END OF STORY.

  • Posted By: sktelement @ 07/15/2008 6:33:18 PM

You all dont understand, the media's portrayal is false because she is being charged with murder...have you not figured that out yet? YOU CANT TRUST THE MEDIA, once again I personally knew her, studied with her, and had a crush on her....We all dont know enough about the case but she is not portrayed properly,

    • Posted By: heyy'all @ 07/15/2008 9:10:17 PM

Too many people in the WOLRD have something in the closet. I have come to learn that nothing is suprising anymore. Now I am not saying she did or did not do this, just look at the thought of "wow, I thought I knew her". Those words come out of too many peoples mouths.

  • Posted By: time @ 07/15/2008 8:07:05 PM

I see this in few different lights. First off; how does everyone know for sure it was the girl??? As much as foreigners hate Americans....you never can be too sure of the extent that they may go to!!! Take it from someone who does a lot of traveling. Secondly; the race of a woman has absoulutely nothing to do with how she acts. Third; parents cant always controll their children once the become of a legal age regaurdless of how they were brought up... If a person decides he/she wants oranges instead of the apples his/her parents always tough him/her were best for them; then they just might buy that orange. We all make mistakes no ones perfect!!! What happen to religion? You know the part where only GOD can judge you. Best yet said '"He without SIN cast you stone!" An I don't think he was playing!!!! If these people are guilty then it will eventually come to light. All of you egotistical, self centered morons who want to judge these people...need to judge yourselves first. Half of you nimrods can't even spell or pronounce to save your lives. I guess that too must be you parent's fault huh Julion???? Grow up & get an education.

    • Posted By: Interestedtoo @ 07/15/2008 9:09:14 PM

I see at least 8 spelling errors in this post and countless punctuation errors. Yes, indeed, "let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

    • Posted By: Horizon @ 07/15/2008 9:01:35 PM

Time, if you disapprove people who judge others, how come you write things like: " foreigners hate Americans ". It seems you are judging foreigners, aren't you ?

By the way, I think you meant '"taught " instead of " tough "... Just a note from a - foreign - nimrod who knows how to spell your native language.

    • Posted By: ImRightUrWrong @ 07/15/2008 8:32:56 PM

thought not tough - just a note from a nimrod who can spell.

Having had exchange students in my home from Germany,Holland, and Norway, I have heard about some places to visit and some to avoid, according to my two German students. Italy is dangerous and according to them, it is a place you need to drive around. Pick pockets, tire theives, and manipulators abound. Add to this that my step father was mugged and robbed getting on the bus in Italy, I think Americans who are considering studying abroad should perk up and listen to native Europeans. Yes - Italy is beautiful and historic; yes the have food and wine originals; but look what it also has - the mafia, which also controls the casinos in Las Vegas. I hate to say it: a thug is a thug is a thug. When two Italian judges locked up some mafia king-pins several years back, what did they get? Shot to death in their driveways. Listen up: if you go abroad, find out safe areas, don't let strangers into your apartment, and let your own behaviour be beyond reproach.

    • Posted By: qahill @ 07/15/2008 9:07:59 PM

This is the most ridiculous, bigoted comment I have ever heard! First of all, the accused consist of an American, an Italian, and a Sub-Saharan African, they are all from different places so you can't point out Italy. Second, America is far more dangerous than Italy, it is much more violent and has far more murders. And Holland, Germany and Norway ? They are all more violent than Italy. Holland is full of prositution and drugs, not only the legal ones, but loads of cocaine, which is attracted by the other drugs. My friends and I ran in to far more shady characters in Amsterdam than any Italian city. Germans and Norwegians love to get dead drunk and are very xenophobic and try to act all liberal, but underneath it they are very close-minded Nordic racists, as witnessed by your exchange students' unfounded stereo-typing of Italy. Mafia controlling Las Vegas casinos? Are you out of your mind, every heard of Trump and publicly traded companies that own the Casinos? The mafia that ran the casinos in the 50s and 60s were Americans, mostly Jewish and some Italian-Americans, but not Italians. Another thing, organized crime, such as the mafia, is only in the South of Italy and only certain parts of the South, and it is between the gangsters and their interests, they don't consistently kill innocent bystanders like the American gangs. America has the biggest mafia by far: Bush and his cronies, health-care companies, Israeli-lobbyists, defense contractors; the Sicilian mafia, Neapolitan Camorra, and Calabrian N'Dranghetta don't even come close to any of them. Additionally, America consumes more drugs than any other country,. Lady, I did my Junior year in Italy, and was never once felt threatened by Italians, but a couple times by foreigners that were visiting. The problem with Germans, Dutch, and Norwegians is they get blasted when they visit Italy, act like fools, and attract all the pickpockets, thieves and other rifraft, and rightfully so. They think they can do whatever they want in other countries, like Americans in Mexico, and then criticize other peoples for being unruly and corrupt, HYPOCRITES!

    • Posted By: julionw @ 07/15/2008 8:18:58 PM

You don't need to go to Italy to get drugged, mugged or disrespected .... Just go to the local "Clubs", and watch your daughter hang out with guys that women of their own race or ethnicity would NOT hang out with ... What does that tell you?

      • Posted By: Anna2007 @ 07/15/2008 8:29:03 PM

To julionw: not every student goes to clubs. Clubs spell "trouble" in every country.

        • Posted By: julionw @ 07/15/2008 8:32:26 PM

I say Clubs, because they are public places, but restaurants, the street, etc. will do also.

  • Posted By: Anna2007 @ 07/15/2008 9:02:52 PM

coco - You said that these people all "knew" each other very well. The fact that there was a murder proves that they did not truly "know" one another. Knox had only been in the country 3 months. My comments were what two separate German exchange students told me and others around them in casual conversation. You said not to generalize.

  • Posted By: coco.s @ 07/15/2008 8:54:36 PM

Can anybody tell me a place where you can be safe 24/7? becuase I want to go there, who wouldn't, right? ... I was In Perugia studying abroad when the murder happened. I had the best time of my life while in Italy, especially in Perugia. The whole town was in shock when this terrible incident happened becuase Perugia has been a safe town for many years. People in that town know each other's business and can tell who is new in town. Who you are and what you do has to do a lot with the people around you. As a young adult, what many of us do when touristing a place, or exploring the nighlife in others countries, you have use your common sense. Common sense for everything, that's it. It is uncertain what is going to happen to an individual in the next hour or day, and it is sad to hear stories of people being robbed while vacationing in other countries; it's unfortunate. Thankfully many people, including me, have travelled and have been safe the whole time while in other countries. It is not fair to make a generalization about going to foreing countries and say negative things about them. It is very sad and unfortunate what happened Meredith Kercher and the person or people who commited that murder. The actions of a few should not be directed to everybody. If you feel unsafe travelling, because of pick pick pokets, don't go out then! you'll be better at home ... "don't let strangers into your apartment?" Are you, Anna2007, refering to the people involved in Knox's case? It is obvious that all these people knew each other very well, and it wasn't just a one time thing.

Why are the comments here about racism and not about the three "killers" !

  • Posted By: BATRON9 @ 07/15/2008 8:42:36 PM

If you read all the evidence it points directly to Rudy Guede. He is the only one who continues to admit he was there and he is the one who bolted the country after the murder. He had run-ins with the police before this incident, whereas Knox did not have a police record in the States or abroad. The theory of 1 intruder with intentions of rape and murder makes a thousand times more sense than the assanine theory of an orgy gone wrong. The group crime theory makes so little sense. If all 3 of the suspects really had a need for some kind of group orgy, why would they need the victim and why would they kill her over it? How can that seem more plausible than a single killer? Especially when you have the probable single suspect in the single suspect theory leaving the country to escape arrest? The single killer could still stage the break-in; he certainly wouldn't have needed accomplices to manage that. Further more, it has been said that only a strong man could have inflicted the knife wound on the victim, in which case Knox would seem to be a poor candidate for having committed the actual murder. The rape would obviously have to have been performed by a male as well, as this is the only way seamen could have been injected. That, too, would illiminate Knox from the 2 acts associated with the crime. That would leave the 2 males as suspects, but again, only one of the 2 men both admit to being there and left the country.

I am supposing that students may be reading this blog and might need to hear a way to NOT become entangled like Amanda Knox. If it saves just one mixed-up student, then it was worth making the comment.

It is such a tragedy what happened to Meredith. She went overseas to study and better her life but instead got brutally murdered. I hope that the students implicated in this crime will speak the whole truth about what happened. I am sure none of these people planned to spend the rest of their lives in a foreign prison. It's a bad situation for all. The stories are not adding up. One reason might be because too much drugs. People sometimes go into a daze after drug use. It's possible there was another person at the villa that nobody is questioning . It's possible Meredith brought home a different guy after Rudy and that guy was a killer. The possibilities are endless. I hope justice is served.

First, If I remember from school, all humans bleed the same color blood. Therefore, the color of the skin is a chemical makeup in the DNA, which means, it is not the reason some one does, acts, or speaks the way they do, which concludes it is the person, not the color of their skin the makes them do, act, or speak the way they do. Secondly, Regardless of how many times a person had sex in so many months, does not make them the number one reason that they are guilty. We as people need to look past the bad morals, and look at the crime itself. Let the evidence speak for the victim. Not the suspects past dramas. No one needs to know if all about the suspects lives, just what is needed for the case. The media makes to much out of crimes and famous people lives and create mini-soap operas out of it. And thirdly, yes we all can be racist and judge when we should not, however we should all try to look at both sides of coin before we speak, or write, because you never know if one day you are on one or the other side of that coin. Today's world is no longer yesterdays.
