The Power of Images

I get the message they are trying to send but..... its the people who hav tunnel vision when it comes to this canidate that will have this image burned into their mind. The problem is that some people really do believe that he is a muslim but he is not , and this picture has like they say put a face to it. Its an image that is powerful and full of fear. I do believe it is a tasteless picture but it shows how distorted some peoples view point on this canidate is. I welcome the freedom of the press we have in this country its great.

It was tasteless, but the media are the one blasting it as front page news everywhere. You can't blame the New Yorker. I don't think its circulation is national but the media put the cover on the national front page. Let's not forget about free speech as well. Amazing that a liberal magazine just like Newsweek did it.

Actually, Southerner, you are very wrong. When Barack Obama went to school in Indonesia, it was a state regulation that ALL kids, Christian, Muslim, or other, took classes in Islam. I did my research, do more yourself.

The New Yorker caters to a readership of above average intelligence. Its editors fail to understand that there are people in this country who will never appreciate the nuances of the English Language. Just read some of the comments posted on the Net each day.

Also, why don???t they run a story on McSame about how the old fool cant even use a computer. That???s all we need in office now, somebody that has no idea how to stimulate R&D in America because he is too lazy to take the time to try it out. What's wrong with having Muslim roots or any roots? Most of Americans of African origins had other religions, believes and practices including Islam. Many abandoned them either by force by their masters or were too overwhelmed by their hardship and being slaves to practice their ancestoral believs. So no black American will have the chance to be accepted as a presedential candidate in the country he helped build and defend with much more efforts and sacrifices than any other ethnity in America. Finally, The whole Universe is no more valuable to almighty Allah(God) than the wing of a mosquito, so, what will hurt Islam, the true message of God to all mankind, if Obama or anyone else denied being or refused becoming Muslim. One day he and many others like him will gravely regret it.

I for one agree with the cover . This man is the Anti-Christ and we as Americans

There's no ideology here. Just politicians taking care of the monied interests. Conservatives, liberals -- everyone was in on creating the conditions that led to the mortgage collapse. I think the cover is disgusting If this was meantas a satireon these things . then lets see one on Mc Cain then that would be fair game for both of the canidates.

Obama's name is a liability. No matter his actual record, position or beliefs, many Americans will inevitably connect him with radical Islam simply because of the associations raised by his name. It is also a liability that will assuredly be used by his opponents, possibly to devastating effect, through some sort of whisper campaign as election day approaches. This is an issue that the campaign must address and neutralize.

The New Yorker cover adroitly summarizes all of middle America's secret fears about Barack Obama. It also provides the Obama campaign with an opportunity to systematically address and soothe those fears. It seems to me that the New Yorker has done Obama a great favor by making his name an open issue now, when it can be addressed in the open, rather than remaining an underground issue that will gnaw at voters until their appointment with the ballot box.

The cartoon was outrageous. However, the reason Obama is on the receiving end of this nonsense is becuase people really don't know who he is. I really wish he had stayed in the seante a couple of terms (not years) before deciding to run for president. He cannot back up his mantra of hope, change, and unity with solutions for delivery. By running for president before he was ready, the country is more polarized than ever.
