You Bushistas are truly morons. The New Yorker is satirizing right wing extremists like yourself for your ridiculous distortions. The magazine is insulting YOU. And not only are you too stupid to get it, but you even go around repeating the joke. This is unbelievably hilarious.

Somewhere, a whole lot of villages must be missing their idiots.

Just the facts, do what I did and read his book, Dream from My father, it was written years ago before he entered politics and talks about his life from the beginning to the end.
People like you do not know because they do not want to know and search. They want to have sound bits rather then read. Read the book, it;s all there, thank you

You've got to wonder why Barack's supporters and the msm are always trying to explain him. Most have already made up their mind about this guy. The New Yorker cover will only serve to reinforce misperceptions. This guy has a big time identity problem. If you think the "silent majority" is a thing of the past, think again.

OH PLEASE! Where are all of you when Obama suporters and Republicans were selling Hillary Nutcrackers? That was worse than this magazine cover!

The writer here assures us that Obama is a Christian. My guess is that 5 weeks ago he would have assured us that Obama was for public financing of presidential campaigns, against FISA, for running from Iraq, etc. The problem that Newsweek has is that it is known for shilling for Obama. The fact is that no one really knows what Obama believes. After looking at his recent huge changes in position, it is not at all unreasonable to think Obama has Muslim sympathies at his core. After all, his crackpot minister hates America. Why shouldn't Obama?

Thank you New Yorker. I get it. My jaw dropped, and then I laughed. I laughed all day. America, wake up. If you don't get it, please don't vote.

Political cartoons are published everyday in major publications across this nation. People usually only get upset when it depicts their favorite individual. Since it doesn't bother me, I must not be a B.O. fan. True. One only has to listen to the speechs of both B.O. and M.O. to understand that there may be some truth in this particular cartoon. It amazes and puzzles me how people are being duped by B.O. Well, I guess rhetoric is a strong weapon. Look at Hitler, he duped an entire nation based on promises of change. He was a master of rhetoric.

Not really excited either by the old man McCain, but to me he seems to be better than the other choice.

It surprises me to learn that the New Yorker is pro Obama. Any half way intelligent person could have predicted that the picture on the cover of this magazine would hurt Obama. There are just too many people who actually believe what the picture shows. There are too many people that will fail to see the picture as satire, and thus the picture will only reinforce the untruths. It's surprising to me that the people at this magazine would not be able to see this. Unbelievable, is all I can say.

His father gave him the Muslim name Barack Hussein Obama.
"True, but meaningless. Obama's father, whose name was also Barack Hussein Obama, was born to a Muslim family in Kenya but become an atheist long before he came to Hawaii in 1959, where he met Obama's mother."

False, Any part of his name is not Muslim. It is a name derived from a region of a world. Names are not inherently related to religion. That's utter nonsense. People may name them with religious intent but that does not belong it belongs to a particular religion. Just because the names from the bible are derived from the bible does not mean they have biblical intentions. Name someone John and it may well be that the name is as American as apple pie, and not for John the Baptist. Jesus (Hay-soos) doesn't have anything to do with Jesus the Savior.

The New Yorker made a mess of the Obama campaign. They have given doubt to those that do not sbscribe to it much less read anything outside of Boone, Dade, Cook, Orange or any County. This type of racial bias would most suredly be picked up by not just the U.S.A. but the entire world to pass further judgment and doubt on Barack Obama. It's utter nonsense, it was stupid and some people need to be fired. If McCain wins this election, it will be based on race and prejudice. Go figure, true history may possibly be derailed by the media. It sickens me that MSM downplays this article as satire. Books are still judged by the cover and those that see the cover will likely judge the candidate or the magazine. So much racism in this world after all this time and for a magazine to be this irresponsible is an injustice to minorities. But I digress, Mr. Obama shall be the victor and lead the country in a positive direction and prove the MSM and any other doubter wrong.

what a cry baby...where's freedom of expression and speech.......all of the sudden these freedom are out the window if Obama is unhappy about it. First..no one is allowed to critic him because then he'll label them as racists and now....no one can say or do anything referencing him at all.....even in support of him. This is a very disburbing trend and attitude for a president to have.

    • Posted By: loriw @ 07/14/2008 10:41:12 PM

Even freedom of speech is limited in some cases and should be. You can't yell fire in a theater and you can't stand in public and yell "I'm going to shoot the president". Adults are supposed to act like adults and show some level of respect to other people. Sorry, the staff of New Yorker did not show respect in this case. They must be desperate for controversy and sales. This is "art" at it's worst if you can even call it art. National magazines like this do things like this to presidential candidates and then we wonder why we can't get really good people to run for the office. No wonder Colin Powell's wife begged him not to run.
In her shoes I'd have done the same.

Mc Cain is the second Halliburton candidate, Bush being the first. Bush was easy to step aside so that Cheney, Rumsfield, Wolfowitz and company could get us into Iraq so that Halliburton could clean up, literally. Mc Cain is more experienced and if his mind was right, they couldn't slip in under him and run the country, but they picked him because they knew that his lights will be going out next year just after inauguration. They can prop him up and make him look like a president while they take the next step.

    • Posted By: notroubleatall1963 @ 07/14/2008 10:27:34 PM

Actually, it's KBR (Kellogg, Brown & Root), which is the former Halliburton subsidiary now a spin-off in its own right. That is the company that was part of Halliburton when Cheney was its CEO. And it's the one supplying our US military with so much in Iraq.... food services, laundry, construction of infrastructure, etc... HUGE contract. Halliburton is still around; it's just an oilfield services company (but one of the world's largest, competing with Schlumberger off and on each year for the Gold Medal)...

People in this country generally have real trouble with parody, satire and sarcasm. It's just difficult to convey it to the masses who are apparently lacking in good English Literature and dramatic/literary criticism as far as their education goes. .. and sometimes that is not so "far"... A great cartoon, but completely wasted on the masses and now it may just backfire - it will serve to underscore peoples' worst "fears" about the candidate. I'm surprised the New Yorker published it -- but then I bet it's selling like hotcakes....

Oh, my freaking heck, I love the New Yorker, because I had the fortunate opportunity of going to Prep School and graduating from a fine University in the East. I always read this fi ne publication, precisely because I felt they put themselves above the fray. (Read Woody Allen's ( I cannot keep my hands off of very young women)) very brilliant, "The Kuglemass Episode." Brilliant. By any standard.

Although the New Yorker has been held to a higher standard in Journalism, Short Stories, and, Thank-You, "Boothe' and other excellent comics, I stand firm in saying," Editors, you have gone too far. Would you have done the same with JFK and Catholicism, Clinton and Baptism, Puhleeze, you have taken an important and prescient candidate an turned him into a laughing stock to sell magazines.

Shame on you, New Yorker, If you had hit the mark, which you missed with all of the clarity and circumspect respectability for which you are know. It boils down to a "simple smear".
Kurt Vonnegut was "dead-on" (no pun intended) in his last book, " A Man without a Country".

    A Woman without a country,
    Irish (put 'em up) Jane

But, Please, I am not even an Obama supporter, (acutally I am, for the first time in my rather long-life, write in my dead Uncle, Capt. Robert Lewis Simpson, who was the first Air Force Pilot killed in Vietnam. He left five Children, a grieving Wife, a Father and Mother and his only sibling, my Father. No one of this generation ever recovered from this loss. They never found his body, so my Grand-parents, my Father, Tito's Wife and children buried an empty casket in Arlington Cemetery. For their loss, the have a street in his home-town of Fort Walton, Florida, in his name. A lame and unfortunate legacy in is behalf. (He flew 67 missions in Korea before volunteering as "an Advisor in Vietnam. His first day in-country he was flying a T-28 trainer, which considering he was flying the Shooting Star in Korea, is like going from a Corvette to a freaking "Smart Car" with three cylinders.

Why do I digress about my Uncle and his Service to his country. Two-fold. I don't care if The New Yorker has the poor taste and "seemingly humor" to portray Senator Obama as a Muslim "Towel-Head, Sand-***", or any other derogatory expletive to demean Senator Obama and his Wife, I find the New Yorker at "foul" and

Uhh, the little old lady from Dubuque might just be more insulted than The New Yorker thinks.
I found the cartoon rather disturbing. Barack Obama is a presidential candidate. Where is the respect?
What is that weapon being carried on his wife's back? That is demeaning to me (just because I am a female and I think Mrs. Obama is definitely a female too). Women are okay with being girls. We are not all so transient that we carry weapons.

    • Posted By: josemarti @ 07/14/2008 10:04:30 PM

You ask a very important question. What is that weapon? I was wondering about that. And why would she be carrying it? Like, aren't they going to have the protection of the secret service? And why are they burning the American flag? Is it to conserve the logs? I think that is taking enviromentalism too far!

  • Posted By: josemarti @ 07/14/2008 9:46:16 PM

The New Yorker cover is actually quite touching It shows President Obama and his wife sharing a tender moment in front of the fire place presumably after having returned from the Inaugural Ball. They are about to retire for the evening after having reflected on their monumental accomplishment. Snow is falling in front of the White House. Victory is theirs. They can now relax. Their travels to the political center has left them exhausted. They have regained their true selves. It is a touching moment. They are happy. Through them we will happy too.

  • Posted By: cowen123456 @ 07/14/2008 9:43:56 PM

ok..let me get this straight....Obama is pissed that one of his BFF press portrait an over the top image of what the internet crazies having been saying about him? what?.........Is Obama implying now that there can be no freedom of expression with him at the helm...from anyone unless it is with his blessing? Ok,,,,this guy either have really thin skin or he's just not ready to be president.

If Obama thinks this cover is bad....wait til he's president...what will he do then? make a speech chastising the media each time someone runs a negative story on him? what a cry baby!

Let me get this right. It is offensive to portray the Obama's with a cover illustration for an article which essentially describes conservatives as a bunch of knuckle dragging mouth breathers. Which part is more offensive? And when Obama is ordained president we will all come together in unity and peace, hug and sing Kumbaya. Pigs will fly first.

Mc Cain is a Muslim, a crook and a fraud. I read it in a newspaper where holy roller gets all of his information in the magazines where you check out your groceries, right next to the story of the 92 year old lady who had a petrified baby by caesarean section.
