This did not offend me or my family. What offends us is the fact Obama was seen on stage and completely ignored the pledge of allegiance. He would not wear the American flag on his lapel at the beginning of his bid for the white house. Does he think intelligent people will vote for him after he attended the Rev. Wright's church all those years and preaching it's white folks are the blame for the blacks folks problems. Obama is bad news. I don't trust him any farther than I can throw a full grown elephant. I would not trust him in a country outhouse with a muzzle on. He is a evildoer on a path of destroying the U.S.A from the inside out. People better wake up from their dream before it becomes a nightmare. McCain has been there and done that. I want his hands on the switch when and if it becomes necessary to use it. I also want a jew as a Vice President because he would never forget the holocaust. Lord have mercy on us and GOD BLESS AMERICA.

It???s time to consider the source once more. Last week it was the phony Liberal???s Fisa campaign against Obama and so here we go again. The cover of the New Yorker Magazine is typical liberal elitism in its most disgusting form, which should prove to anyone with the ability to think, that Obama is not a liberal elitist and most important these people do not want Obama to become President. Are these phony liberal and neo-con snobs as out of touch with real America as some argue? They are not stupid and both most definitely have an agenda. As a liberal who understands real America and politics; I sit by year after year and watch in disgust as the liberal elites join the corporate mass media to give the conservative neo-con elites fader with which to feed the ignorant and win elections. It???s amazing but not surprising to see how many Clinton supporters are defending the degrading New Yorker magazine cover in blogs, newspaper articles and on TV. Defending the indefensible in the name of freedom of speech and turning truth on its head, using the ???everyone understands satire??? argument is a vicious totalitarian tactic. They know a picture is worth a thousand words. These divide and conquer tactics are used by those who want to maintain the status quo and stay in power. They have distain, as well as a total lack of respect for the masses and it???s sad to think that they may be right. The neo-cons right wing sleaze machine with the help of the media used these tactics in ???04 to keep George Bush in the White House. John McCain is a bad joke. The Republican Party positions are totally corrupt. McCain???s polls numbers should be in the tank. Yet, the media gives him a free pass. So he could possibly be the next President and keep the status quo alive. Keep your eyes and ears open and watch and listen -- Who else besides the Republican neo-cons and the right wing nut cases and racists don???t want CHANGE! You might learn something.

Ann...Ann...it was a satarical cover done by a left-wing magazine. Evidently, the satire was lost on many. But take a deep breath, this is a Presidential campaign and lot's of this kind of stuff can and will happen.

      Get over yourself.

      • Posted By: chillfour@yahoo.com @ 07/15/2008 11:38:17 PM

It appears that there has been a change in the New Yorker's way of looking at things. I'd say that like all media there is a big swing to the right with the New Yorker. Nothing stays the same when it comes to seeing things fairly and honestly. Rich republicans are taking over all they can and making sure that their way of looking at things is what everyone sees.

      • Posted By: Ann B. @ 07/15/2008 10:45:31 PM

        Jimbo,

The fact that it was in a liberal magazine is the problem. Obviously, the 'satire' was and will be lost on most Americans and they had to know that.

How did the '04 re-election of George Bush work out for you -- or are you one of those happy neo-cons? I've been over myself for 67 years, sweetie. Time for you to take the "deep breath".

On page 154 of "Dreams From My Father," Obama writes: "In Indonesia, I had spent two years at a Muslim school.

Alter needs to get facts straight because it takes away from the integrity of this site and it gives the white racist Conservatives cannon fodder for their hate.

    • Posted By: chillfour@yahoo.com @ 07/15/2008 11:31:53 PM

He did not attend muslim school. He attended a catholic run school, and then a public school.

  • Posted By: ragtopdodge @ 07/15/2008 8:58:02 PM

I heard that McCain was a Manchurian candidate, brainwashed by the Vietcong to become President and then FLIP once he gets sworn in to start wars and get the country to become Communist!

    • Posted By: LuLuBelle @ 07/15/2008 11:22:38 PM

OOhh, yeah, and they waited 30 years to pounce! You are so funny! Since all you Obama supporters keep ranking on John McCain's age I guess the Vietnamese almost missed their window of opportunity!

Do you realize how stupid you sound when you post things like that?

  • Posted By: DirtDobber @ 07/15/2008 11:19:48 PM

This did not bother me or my family. What bothers us is Obama is stuck on change. Does he think the intelligent people in the U.S.A. believe he and his wife attended the Rev. Wright's church all those years and heard his pathetic message about how the white people are to blame for the black peoples problem. Obama was seen on stage and completely ignored the pledge of allegiance. He would not wear the american flag on his lapel at the beggining of his campaign. There was no flag in his background. Does he really think he deserves to be in the White House. He is a poor excuse of someone who thinks he would be a leader. The United States was founded with Christians and trying their best to be destroyed by the Muslims.
The American people better wake up from their dream before it becomes a nightmare.

Obama's Birth Certificate is available on his website under "Fight the Smears" for anyone who is questions his citizenship.

    • Posted By: HolyRoller @ 07/15/2008 10:21:24 PM

and it shows evidence of tampering. google...obama birth certificate, or go to NoQuarter...another questiom mark, that is not going away.

      NOBAMA!!!

  • Posted By: vakosh @ 07/15/2008 10:03:57 PM

It's relevant ... whether or not it was satirical is debatable, but I can't help asking myself how much am I not my heritage, how much am I not my past. How much am I not democrat, how much am I not catholic, how much am I not Irish. How do you measure how much you are not?

  • Posted By: pezled @ 07/15/2008 9:54:54 PM

I think obama looks great on the New Yorker cover. Relaxed, natural. Yep. It's just right.

  • Posted By: Peanut_Gallery @ 07/15/2008 9:04:17 PM

Just so we have this straight:
We know that the New Yorker cartoon is harmful, because a Reagan administration official told a journalist that the American public essentially watches the news with a stuck mute button. Color me unconvinced.

  • Posted By: rememberinnov @ 07/15/2008 9:03:20 PM

    um
I would still like to see Obama's birth certificate. Is that so much to ask?
Full disclosure would help me decide. Was his father married to his mother or was
he born to a single mom? Why the need to cover up his birth? Nice to know going forward.

LOL...Let me see...every McCain supporter chooses to highlight Obama's presumed weaknesses, including most important to most of you and your "ilk", Barack's lack of experience which leads you all to presume that he will not be able to pull the troops out of Iraq (remember that place, the place where President "Idiot" entrenched us to remake the Middle-East)...Stop trying to tell me that this is not about Bush's stupid war which has in short order: left America weaker in the Middle-East because Iran is so much stronger than ever in the region (answer that one you right-wing nut job? It' s either right or wrong)...Oh, and a funny thing happened on the way to war, we were not welcomed as liberators...The invasion/occupation I say again occupation, did NOT pay for itself...When you make your arguments come strong are not at all, cause your side has so much BS to answer for...I get so worked up because usually what arguments you have are just DUMB! DUMB! DUMB!...I could support McCain because honestly he was the strongest of the Republicans, but in an effort to placate those of you who are no longer shooting straight, McCain needs a proctologist to remove his lips from Bush's butt....When you respond, try to do so with intelligent arguments not what you or I believe, but what is true!!!...WBBJ/the wonk46

It's really too bad the Democrats don't bring a strong enough candidate to endure the media. You would think after they brought the spineless Kennedy Puppet John Kerry to the election last time they would have learned but evidently not. I also find it humorous that they thought having Hillary campaign for Obama in exchange for paying off some of her campaign debt was a good idea. How pathetic. They are paying her to support him. Typical democrats. I can hardly wait for the "We got cheated and want a vote recount" campaign to start after Obama loses. I guess the Obama campaign thought college kids and pep rally's would be enough to win. Obama is a made up man and just another Liberal puppet. It's amazing how many people this empty suit has fooled into believing he is capable of being the President. I laughed at his immaturity once again when he said it was a mistake to put his daughters on TV. What a buffoon he is....... How couid anyone be fooled by this snake in the grass... There truly is one born every minute..... Lemmings being led by the fiddler. If this is the best the Liberals have to offer then they better get used to losing....

    • Posted By: Truth-Like it or Not @ 07/15/2008 8:57:18 PM

Is McCain the best the RNC can do...clueless, old and forgetful. A shuffling old fool who's ego is out of control. The true flip-flopper in polictics. What he is now taking Obama's position on Iraq being a mistake..give me a break...no doubt dementia kicking in.

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 07/15/2008 5:26:53 PM

Obama was by far the weakest of the democratic finalists

  • Posted By: cheerios @ 07/15/2008 8:30:46 PM

Well, well, so Pot finally meets Kettle, & the weenie whiney can-dish-it-out-but-can't-take-it Democrats are having a collective cow, & as the great Gleason said, "How SWEET it is." I don't know about you, but I'm enjoying every minute of this. Why did the chickens cross the road? To come home to roost with Democrats. For years now Progressives/Liberals/Leftists have laughed themselves silly over anti-Republican cartoons/photos to which the words "class" & "good taste" can in no way ever be applied. My favorites though are the ones re Condi Rice with their grotesquely distorted features, sexual innuendo, & how many times can they laugh over calling her "whore"? I guess that joke never gets old. My very favorite is the one which in so many words called Dr. Rice, N-----. Now THAT must have gotten the everybody-else-is-racist-but-us crowd rolling in the aisles. Rumor has it that Barack Obama is preparing a list of approved jokes that people will be allowed to tell about him. And perhaps a bit less condescension/scorn is in ordcer from the just-too-smart-even-for-ourselves bunch for average Americans. A brief perusal of progressive/etc. site postings on this issue will find comments along the lines of "Sure, WE get the satire (although many of us really don't), but the maroons in the flyover states won't because they're all so (fill in your own insult, there are plenty of them flying around these sites)." Well, we do get it & we don't see what any of the fuss is all about, but we are sitting back & having some fun with it.

Thanks Mr. Alter for setting the record straight...While I as a Obama supporter am perturbed by the "Roveian" myths being generated by someone (most likely a right-wing conservative nut job), what is worse is the stigma being placed on Muslims here in America, and the disconnect that Obama is being pressured into towards these people...The bottom line is, is that America's apathy an indifference has netted us eight years of a failed policy, and now the Republicans believe they deserve another four years to promote more of their Neocon?Wilsonian agenda...Please let it be the "The Bush Administration, 2000-2008 RIP", in other words "Barack 08"...WBBJ!!!

    • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 07/15/2008 5:43:43 PM

Obama being pressured toward Muslims? No need for pressure, he's already buddies with many of them, they were a significant element of his constituency when he was running for state offices. He only became pro-Israel when he started to run for national office, and apologized for that to his buddy Ali Abunimah.

All you pro-Obama critics of McCain's lack of computer savy should google it.

Oh never mind, I'll give you the link -- you probably don't want to bother finding it for yourself since you only believe those websites that print what you want to read.

And if what you say is true...what's the problem? One of the reasons the new world was settle is religous persuction. Wrong or right? Religous bigotry is just as bad if not worse than racial bigotry. All of you "Islam" haters are starting to sound like The Germans regarding The Jews. Do you really want to go there?

It is interesting that no one is willing to address the underlying issue here which is race. Before someone yells ???the race card, the race card??? let???s be honest we would not be having this discuss if the Obama???s were White. The problem is we (White people, me included) have to really addressed our inner most beliefs about Black people. All the fears and all the stereotypes. I know that going up in LI, NY I believed a bunch of things about people I never met, went to school with, worked with or even half spoke to in the mall. I do not consider myself a racist I just never thought about it that much and I didn???t have to. If I spent any time on it at all it was thinking those Blacks need to get it together. And, now that we have a product of a Black man who has gotten it together we still want over look his accomplishments and intelligence. It???s easier to believe he and his wife are terrorists than to find out everything we were told about Black people was wrong. Interesting.

dstro - you're wrong with the assumption that Obama comes from the African American experience, hence Black America. His African roots comes from the eastern coast of Africa where slave traders never brought captives to the US. He is much more white than he is black. Was raised by an atheist mother, mostly within the borders of an Islamic nation. He is NOT a symbol of the American Dream in any way shape or form. He is, however, the by-product of an overzealous liberal media. His book title "THe Audacity of Hope" speaks volumns about his sense of patriotism, that the American Dream is futile, and it is audacious to think otherwise. It is rather fitting that this title came from his years with the Rev. Wright, who injected this characteristic into him. It is audacious to hope that Obama will be President anytime in his lifetime. MCCAIN 2008..!

Of course this cover will affect people's opinion and it was done on purpose. I think it's funny how they are using the excuse of satire. How about this then - let's have a cover with McCain on the front in an old folks home, in a diaper, being hand fed by a nurse. But they are still two different things. Obama and his wife are not Muslim terrorists, but McCain is too old for the presidency.

As I read the anti-Obama rants on this thread I am amazed at the ignorance, bigotry, and just plain stupidity of people who swallow any lie that supports their prejudice. Obama Drama, 5interiors5, Johny at Work, LuLuBelle, I'm talking about you, and the others who have posted similar slime. Your are simply pathetic and I hope you find peace and comfort after Obama sweeps the election.

Uh - how about taking the word of John McCain's disabled wife and 3 kids he abandoned for a much younger, richer beer heiress - whom he then abandoned in her time of need after she had a stroke - leaving her to walk on her own. That's the real McCain for you.

    • Posted By: sharenews @ 07/15/2008 2:55:45 AM

OK, I take it back. Ive responded to your post THREE times now.

Uh, mj it. Ive responded to this two times now on this blog and you are still not getting it. You are combining the events of health issues that were incurred with his first wife (Carol) with his current wife of 28 years (Cindy). Cindy was the wife that had the mild stroke back in 2004. Carol was the wife at the time that was involved in a bad accident in her car sliding into a pole off the road and left with a limp. This event with Carol happened when McCain was a POW in the Vietnam War.

      • Posted By: grammiej @ 07/15/2008 9:39:19 AM

Hi, I think you have brought a good point about McCain. Why do we not hear or see his children, ex-wife, etc? All I see is someone 20 years younger then McCain wearing $3000 suits and I might add, I never see her in the same one twice. What can he or his wife know about the struggles of the 95% of Americans? I just don't get it.
I am recently semi-retired (63 years old) and I just don't get the spending that was reported by C McCain. Maybe I am jealous? You bet. I admire Ms Obama who reported that a dress I have see her wear several times on TV cost about $140 from a "rack store"!! Good for her.
        Just my thoughts

        • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 07/15/2008 11:08:45 AM

I'm assuming that the public doesn't get to see McCain's frst wife and children because there was a deal made or perhaps a pay off. A shame that his three other children don't get to share in their father's limelight. If they did, that would bring out details of his first marriage, his wife's accident and the fact that he cheated on her while she was disabled.

          • Posted By: onepoker @ 07/15/2008 7:40:27 PM

thats ridiculous pia his children from his first marriage are very much a part of his life his son works with Cindy and his children in the military he does not wish to endanger by speaking about their situations and where they are.
