I'd like to point out that, no matter how many Obama haters are on this blog, his books have been in the top 5 of the NYC Bestseller list for a good 2 years now. SOMEONE is buying and reading those books. Millions of someones. That says something.

Nobody questions that he could be a wonderfull motivational speaker. The question is: Could he be a good president? There a growing number of people who think he does not have the caracter, experience or knowledge to be president. The most important thing he is missing is a spine to maintain his position when the polls are against him. Maybe he could leave the presidential race before the convention and start a successful career giving motivational speeches. I can just see the image of him in front of the public shouting "Yes, we can". If the democrats get rid of this guy before the convention maybe they can get a better candidate in time for the election.

The haters always make time to hate, and they're about five thousand times as vocal as the sane ones. Not everyone who dislikes Obama or his wife does it out of ugly spite and malice - most don't - but those who DO it out of spite and malice tend to post ten times as many posts as anyone else and are at least five times as shrill.

A bunch of right-wing, anti-illegal-immigration protesters came from outside our town once to protest a day labor site which generally carries an average of about three middle-aged men looking for work. Not the most threatening thing I've really seen, but in terms of protesting this, when I went over angrily to talk to them, one middle-aged woman DRAPED her flag over my face, then pointed pepper spray at me when I pulled it away. She spent the next month yelling online about how I'd then tried to "steal her flag". They also threatened a 16-year-old harmless black girl with the same pepper spray, screaming and spitting in her face, and one tried to slander me in the middle of the street in front of the police by lying that I'd threatened him with "a revolver". They have some kind of amusing footage of me frustratedly trying to explain to them that I don't even own a revolver. But it was the ugliest piece of humanity I've ever seen. Later, online again, they claimed it was "a great protest" and "a lot of fun".

There are some ugly people without morals out there, obsessed with people who are "destroying this country", whose greatest pleasure in life is trying to destroy the reputation of said people with dangerous lies and slander and exult in it and cheer every time they successfully do. Makes ME sad for my country, but there's little to do about it other than stay out of the way.

  • Posted By: Just-the-facts @ 07/15/2008 12:06:31 AM

The Article is a step in the right direction, but the author and the MSM
still brush aside key facts and information. Example:

    1) Obama Religion - We all know he's a christian today. We are more interested
in his upbringing and key influencers in his life. Just give us the facts.

    2) Obama Ethnicity - The MSM refuses to deliver any facts here. I read that
Obama is 50% White, 37.5% Muslim, & 12.5% Black. If true, Obama is really more
a White Muslim. Why does he call himself a Black Man vs multi-racial
or White/Muslim/Black? Again, just give us the facts.

    3) Please call me Barack - The author doesn't have the facts and is missing the point.
Barry Obama asked his classmates to call him Barack sometime during his soph/junior year.
Why? Probably b/c he figured out that being Barry the white college guy wasn't very cool and that
Barack the black intellectual was cool and more interesting. There's not problem with
any of this, but knowing the facts & insight here help us understand the
character & substance of this candidate.

    4) Relationship with his White Grandparents - why does he not every mention them and
rolled them under the bus during the preacher flap? Did he talk about them when
he was Barry? Barack? What happened b/w them, what are they like?

    5) Who is this guy Barack Obama? Give us more facts and insights, please.

    • Posted By: voter100 @ 07/15/2008 2:26:02 PM

I feel you are beig deliberately obtuse. On point one, it might be a good idea if you read his book or sought out information for yourself. That way you can find out what made him the Christian man he is today from his own mouth. On the second point, I feel it must be explained that in this country, until recent years (we have grown on this point just a little bit), anyone with a certain amount of black blood was considered black. It was even in the laws, and if your skin was dark enough, noone really cared how multiracial you were. After all, many black people in this country are multi/biracial, even if they don't look like it. He is not Muslim, that is why he doesn't refer to himself as a Muslim. On points three through five, I once again say that you could read his book and/or do your own research, but would like to point out that it really isn't your business to know all of his family business. Sometimes what is between family should stay between family, just like Americans should start working together so we can put our country in order and stop looking like fools to the rest of the world. Honestly, many of them think we are all dumb, that we believe whatever anyone says, be it Newsweek or Perez Hilton (why was that guy even in the White House, he isn't a real journalist) and reading these comments makes me think they have more than enough proof to substantiate their claims. I'm really sick of the talk about evrything except for how we can make our country better. We have a beautiful country, still quite young compared to others in the world, but it is up to us to not get complacent in where we are at. Complacency=failure for ourselves, for our children, for all those who have sacrificed to bring our country to greatness. I, for one, am not a fan of stomping on that and will be voting for the candidate that best lays out a plan to ensure the growth and greatness of the United States of America/

      • Posted By: aad135 @ 07/15/2008 5:10:26 PM

Can you then inform me, and everyone else, exactly what is the plan that Obama has so clearly laid out? Because I've missed it; I've looked everywhere for it, and cannot find it. Even at that, if he had a plan, we all know that plan has now changed (yes, he truly is the candidate for change). Guarnateed, he'll return from Iraq and aftger meeting with the military leaders on the ground, he'll have a "changed" plan for Iraq...

This is ridiculous!! Having a president who grew up overseas can only be an advantage!! We need a president who understand that there is an other world outthere, not someone like Bush who had never traveled overseas and like so many american is completely ignorant and uninterested of other cultures. We all leave on the same planet and we better start getting along. What a breath of fresh air will Obama be!
I am getting sick of the right wing medias manipulating and taking advantage of the large magority of ignorant americans! Do you know that freedon and ignorance can be very dangerous??? This is why for the past 8 years, we have lived in a fascist democraby. It is time for americans to start to being curious about the rest of the world and to find out what their government is doing overseas. In many cases, americans foreign policies are terrible, . Ignorance is an evil and because of it, it can destroy the lives of millions as we have seen for the past 8 years. So yes, It will be very important to have a president who understant the rest of the world and can deal with other government with diplomacy. Wars should be a thing of the past!!!! And for the ones who wants wars, then go fight them!!

Hey JonJon....You can shake it, bake it, twist it, turn it, hip and hop it. I TOLD YOU months ago. You discounted and smeared millions of American voters. HE WAS A PRACTICING MUSLIM. Is he now? I don't know, but if not, he is apostate. I've not heard of any FATAH's being issued against him. He is considered a savior among most Islamists. This leads to the conclusion, he is still a mohammed in good standing.

Regardless of all the above, he is definitely this....A CROOK and a FRAUD.

    NOBAMA!!!

    • Posted By: C. MacLean @ 07/14/2008 8:05:14 PM

HolyRoiler, Let me get this straight: because extremist jihadists HAVEN'T issued a fatah on Obama, that means they therefore embrace him?

      That isn't logic, that's crazy!!

He is considered a savior among most Islamists (according to whom?) so he must be a Muslim?

He is considered a savior to a lot of young, Christian Americans. Does that lead one to the conclusion that he is young? Christian? American?

Shake, bake, twist, turn, hip and hop this - you need some serious help with your reasoning. In fact, you need some serious help, period.

"there will always be haters thats the way it is..." conservatives make me laugh. as an obama supporter i must say that the magazine cover is funny. i mean how could people believe this... o ... people do. what idiots you all are. obama like most moral americans attends church with his gfamily regularly. his choice in religion is not based solely on the message delivered by rev. wright, but also the enviorment, area, and personal relationship. are you people narrowminded enough to believe that you share the same beliefs and religous philosophies as your friends. diversity in opinion leads to the greatest dialogue and increased intelligence and awareness. oh i forgot i was talking to conservatives. either way i think anyone can tell that obama as a presidential candidate is light years ahead of mccain. mccain has tyhe same accomplishments bad presidents have had for years, while obama is a great orator full of potential. somehow the phrase washed up comes to mind for mccain. obama's choice of "no comment" on this article shows his maturity over the immature ppl at the times. whats even better is there is no way to make fun of some one as uglyy, old, and inadequate as mccain. no mccain satires because he is the joke. if obama was white this election would more closely resemble Bill Clinton v. Bush.

Come on Obama! Tell everyone what your strategy is on getting out of Iraq. While you are at it, tell us where you got your military expertise experience. The only experience that I know you have as far as terrorism goes, is your close friendship and working relationship with William Ayers and his girlfriend, and your close friendship with, and your political support from Khalida.

Obama supporters, a good candidate changes their position based on experience and present conditions and not on a whelm or for political expediency. Experience takes many weeks, months and years and must be thoroughly analyzed before you decide to change your mind on important issues. Changing your mind in just a few hours or a few days is called flip flopping and that is an appropriate name for it. We need a president that examines history and past practices very carefully before he changes his mind and changes policy for this country. We don't need someone that flows with the tide and looks at polls to make decisions. Yes, we need someone that listens to the people, but in some cases, based on information that can't be made public, the president must use his/her good judgement.

Obama is controlled and told what to say and where he stands on a particular issue by his election staff. These people determine what the public wants to hear or where the other candidate stands on an issue, and then tells Obama what to say to the voters. Obama reads directly from a teleprompter most of the time and says exactly what his staff has come up with. He sounds like a great politician, but in fact he is just a robot with a lot of shrewd politicians behind him who have created a new political figure. Don't get caught up in their rhetoric and make an important decision that you will REGRET for the rest of your life.

what Obama need to do is to confront this attack... he needs to stand up in front of the cameras with the magazine show it to the American people, then say "look I told you they would stoop lower than you can imagine in order to attack me... I have read the article and I can confirm that it is lies and propaganda, worthy of just one thing..." then tear it in half... "the rubbish bin" then proceed to give a speech about his life story and the promise he delivers of a new politics and deal for all American citizens - one that does not forget the people of Appalachia for anther 200 years one that unites whites and blacks with their shared American values and one that respects the right of other to have their views no matter how unfounded... but moreover one that respects the right of the American people to nothing but the truth... explain that as a politician that he is open to influence that he is not ideological etc...

Obama is relatively unknown. It becomes more apparent as time goes on that he does not have sufficient experience at a national or statewide level to be running for president. All of this comes down to fear of the unknown. Yes, the drawing is outrageous, but it would not have been had we gotten to know Obama better. Obama told Tim Russert in 2006 that he would not run for president in2008. That was the first of many times he has changed his mind for political gain

WHo will offer tax breaks to the middle class? WHO will move this economy again? WHo will be see as a strong world leader? The answer is Obama. I used to be an independent who admired McCain but now that I see that he is more like Bush and has embraced all the GOP ideology he is no longer a mavrick but simply a pawn of the right wing of the rotten GOP.

This entire situation is sad. I have seen and heard from many people excuse wrong, all in the name of God. Funny that sounds so familiar. Look the truth of the matter is that we need to grow up. How Anti- Christ like is a war in Iraq with selfish motives. How Godly is it to have families on the street and schools closing. But there are sport arenas being built. How responsible is a government that leaves its people open to 9/11 and collapsing bridges. "One nation, Under God, for Liberty and Justice for ALL." It is just that simple. I just want us to be the example , just as Christ was. This administration has made DESTRACTION an art form. We as Americans have forgotten that it is "We the People" that governs these United States. We need to hold every leader and citizen accountable. There was not one particular man, woman or race that made America great. It was our fight to stand and fight for change that makes America outstanding. Indeed it hurt but we got things done. That is the truth. What I Love about this campaign is that it is exposing our America, flaws and all. We must use this moment as a growing opportunity. For far too long we have allowed our standards to bottom out and be led by greed. The War aside and the Magazine cover aside. It is all a distraction from what really matters. I am sorry it is not taxes.
We are paying the price for not paying attention.

I agree with your comment but I must say to you this is why we have been going down the wrong road for 8 years, it is not the candidates, its the people. They did not want to vote for Al Gore in 2000 when it was perfectly clear he was the better candidate, Kerry was a better candidate. Yes the majority put us where we are today, those of us who are considered hard working blue collar white americans. So I agree with one of the other post, we deserve what we get, when we ask for it. If you for a moment believe or think the cover actually signifies or characterizes reality then you???re a retard and you shouldn???t be voting for anyone. It???s a satire on unreality; it???s a snapshot of Rumormonger with his or her (take your pick) pants down.

Whew. It's a good thing that Mr. Obama has such support by the MSM. If it were not for your massive amounts of clarification, positive press, and help - there may be more people who simply misunderstand and remain ignorant about the Senator. Good thing he has so much free help. Keep up the good work by writing article after article after article to help us all understand Senator Obama. We need more and more.

Whew! Thanks for being there for Senator Obama. He has really been helped by all the positive clarification by the press. You guys are really there for him. What a help. I can tell it's really important to the MSM that we really understand how great Obama is. The free help from the press must be doing him good. Great job. Way to help a candidate! It's unusual for there to be so much help - but I'm sure you have tried to be objective.

The cover is irresponsible and misleading. What a shame. The press has been awful throughout this whole primary and after primaryn season. They are so unprofessional and have manipulated the electorate. This time the liberal press backfired.

A satirical illustration would illustrate the subject of the satire. In this case, the cover is purportedly a satire of the right-wing smear merchants but the smear merchants are not depicted. Instead, their smears were brought to life.

This was no more a satire of the smears sources than a minstrel-show caricature of the Obamas would be a satire of racists.

The New Yorker cover was too meta by half.

THE NEW YORKER SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEM SELVES!!!
    OBAMA IS NOT A MUSLIM!
    MICHELE IS NOT A TERRORIST!
    THEY ARE AMERICANS!

She is definately American. There are serious questions, about Sen. Hussein's birth certificate, though. GOOGLE...Hussein Birth Certificate. You'll be shocked, at what is going on.

      NOBAMA!!!

Comment: According to David Remnick's defense of the article with Wolf Bitzer of CNN, I ponder on the following:
    http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/politics/2008/07/14/tsr.remnick.newyorker.cnn?iref=videosearch

I would like to know would the same satirizing principles David Remnick's and the New Yorker magazine "agrees to" be as satirical as Nazi lies and misconceptions of a German American who is running for President of the United States, to only be depicted on the cover of The New Yorker in the oval office as extremist, in front of a picture of Adolf Hitler giving each other a 'fist-bump'? If not, then why should Obama and Michelle be considered an obnoxious exception?

Enough said, THIS IS NOT SATIRICAL or FUNNY, despite The New Yorker's satirical history, liberal views and support for Obama!... Thank You!
