News and Notes: The "experience" rap is phony. May I suggest that you ease your doubts by looking at the resumes of Abe Lincoln and JFK. When Lincoln was elected to the presidency his resume was almost a duplicate of Obama's except that Obama has a lot more education than Lincol did. And JFK was about the same age and didn't have much more experience than Obama. It is more about who surrounds the president than the depth of his own experience. Look at McCain, his advisers are all Bushies and worse.
Phil Gramm is his chief economic adviser and he thinks we are a nation of "whiners." He more than any single person helped to pave the way for the mortgage debacle we are now witnessing and the potential collapse of our banking industry, yet he says it's all psychological and we should stop whining. McCain originally said the government should keep hands off the mortgage crisis. He got that from Gramm. McCain supported the war in Iraq from the beginning and wants to keep us there indefinitely while we bleed billions of dollars a week. He gets that from people like Lindsay Graham and Joe Liberman. So McCain's so called experience is worthless. He may have been a brave warrior. But he just isn't smart.

That experience stuff was made up and everyone ate it up. That's what politicians do, magnify a perceived advantage over hteir opponent by declaring non existence on them.

Neurosurgery is the most demanding profession in terms of time to become experienced. You need to practice in the house for 10 years. Maybe politics is more rocket science than that. A 46 year old man, ex instructor professor, ex practicing lawyer, ex grassroots organizer (isnt this guy good at mobilizing grassroots - what more proof of someone who acutely learns from their experience), ex state congressman, ex state senator, US senator with total elected office experience of 11 years not experienced to be president?

Barack has been in the state legislature, senate, and US senate for a total of 11 years. Policy making in the state senate alone for 6 years requires more focus on issues, learning to pass proposals, and working with others to get things done. Check out FoxNews own review of his excellent record here:

Moreover, Obama is a highly intelligent man. He has the ability to see the whole picture and think into the future of what possible consequences may be. Bush and McCain don't have that. They want to bomb bomb bomb without considering the long-term fiasco those actions may cause. I'm not sure of McCain's education, but I'm almost positive it does not equal that of Obama's.

o Obama was a 20 year member of a church that espoused Black Liberation Theology, which scholars will tell you takes a Marxist point of view on class struggle

o Obama went to William Ayers to get his political start in Chicago and they became friends and served on foundations together. Yes, the unrepentant Weatherman.

o Obama purchased land next next land purchased by Tony Rezko. They bought from the same seller and closed on the same day, the lots were similar.... yet Obama paid much less than Rezko. Cynics would say that was an undeclared gift from Rezko.

o Obama received a sweetheart deal on his mortgage.

o Obama was key in getting funding for Rezko properties in Chicago that became true slums do to neglect.

o Obama will do anything to get elected including changing positions on NAFTA, gun control, campaign financing, Jerusalem, flag pins, on and on.

Draw your own conclusions as to whether Obama is qualified to be President of the United States.

      All false and disputed.

      Theyve all been gone through.

      Take only the recent:

Sweetheart deal. You just make up words to suit it. Nobody even came close to calling it that. That was Senator Dodd. Barack got a discount on his mortgage based on over 300K worth of money market account with the bank and a great credit record. This is typical of many banks doign business with a customer with leverage. A credit rating of 600 compared to 750 can account for over 1% point in mortgage. That is why no republican is raising this issue. TRUST me It was looked into.

Now the McCains not paying their property taxes on one of their 7 houses for four years. That undisputed. http://www.newsweek.com/id/143775/
(At least they dont need a mortgage since they are worth over $100 million so we cant make up they have a deal because they have better rates than someone else while someone else has better rates than them).

There is a faction of Americans that will try everything and do anything to prevent Obama from being elected, but they have overlooked one thing, people have grownup a lot since JFK and MLK. The winds of change are blowing and this faction is a minority right now and I would not be surprised if some are direct descendants of the KKK. Look at Obama???s credentials and look at this old decrepit man McCain who is now clearly suffering from forgetfulness (I wont use the A word). McCain cannot even use a computer! I watched GWB today answer a question fielded about the economy and his reply was he was not an economist. They should kick his ass from the White House! How can you be running a country of the magnitude of the USA and have the effrontery to stand up on cable TV and say you are not an economist? Is it any wonder the country is in the state it is in. BTW his press brief was deliberately scheduled for the same time Obama speak. Dirty politics! To put McCain in the White House is to swap one idiot for another idiot. Hey Repubs! Did you know everything today is computerized? That old fart McCain would be looking at a computer showing a missile coming straight to the White House and don???t have a clue! He is neither husband material nor president material.

It is interesting that noone is really willing to say the truth about what is going on. Much of the uneasiness with Obama stems from racial issues. If we got to know one another better and understood and respected the cultural differences none of this would be an issue. But we rely on old stereo types and fear to let our minds think this rubbish is true. I do not believe Obama will be elected because it is easier to go with what we think we know than to get to know something new. I beleive this election cycle will be one of the saddest in modern history. It is very interesting because people say Black people should pick them selves up, stop looking for hand outs and take care of business. Here we have a man who has done all of that and more but yet we do not respect him. Very sad.

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 07/15/2008 1:20:09 PM

Generally the uneasiness has more to do with Obama's thin resume, and his readiness to be president. He is the presumptive democratic nominee, yet he is still relatively unknown. Race is not part of the equation for most people who are skeptical about Obama. As a matter of fact, depending on what he accomplishes, Obama would probably make a great president - in 2020

According to David Remnick's defense of the article with Wolf Bitzer of CNN, I ponder on the following:
    http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/politics/2008/07/14/tsr.remnick.newyorker.cnn?iref=videosearch

I would like to know would the same satirizing principles David Remnick's and the New Yorker magazine "agrees to" be as satirical as Nazi lies and misconceptions of a German American who is running for President of the United States, to only be depicted on the cover of The New Yorker in the oval office as extremist, in front of a picture of Adolf Hitler giving each other a 'fist-bump'? If not, then why should Obama and Michelle be considered an obnoxious exception?

Enough said, THIS IS NOT SATIRICAL or FUNNY, despite The New Yorker's satirical history, liberal views and support for Obama!... Thank You!

  • Posted By: dhassl @ 07/15/2008 2:03:49 PM

I hope that the New Yorker posts the following Comments:
If you think Obama is a Muslim - then you are too stupid to Vote.
If you think Obama was educated in a Madrassa; You are too stupid to Vote.
If you Vote for McCain - Your Children witll be sent to Die in unneccesary wars - and you are Too stupid to vote.

  • Posted By: sebr01stl @ 07/15/2008 1:15:50 PM

mbailiff, the problem is that way too many low information voters will let images like the one on the covewr of the New Yorker burn into their brains, never bother to read the article inside the magazine which contradicts the cover photo or anything else factual; and, it WASN'T funny. When satire has to be explained, it fails. Thank you, dstro, that's right.
johnny at work, is that why Jesse Jackson just stated that he wants to cut his n&ts off, because no blacks will relinquish their support of Obama? Blacks won't run for cover behind something FALSE about Obama, like you posted, no. YOU brought up black support of Obama, and now YOU want to claim that someone's "playing the race card?" LMAO.

    • Posted By: mbailiff @ 07/15/2008 1:27:15 PM

How many "low information voters" or I think you mean to say the stupid and uneducated who can barely read or write, do you think are out there? Furthermore what makes you think those voters were going to vote for Obama to begin with? I don't believe that there are a large number of stupid Americans walking around who are going to see the cover of The New Yorker and decide Obama is muslim and they will not vote for him. Americans are not stupid or uneducated and they can understand the difference between a cartoon and actual news. People are not dumb they just get treated that way in an election year.

      • Posted By: sebr01stl @ 07/15/2008 1:47:00 PM

Actually, mbailiff, there are more "low information voters," who are quick to believe everything smutty e-mail they read, but refuse to accept anything reputable and true, than you may think. If it furthers their prejudicial preconceptions, they accept it without question; and, you said "stupid and uneducated," I didn't. They interviewed people on the street, average, common, normal Americans, about the New Yorker on the newsstands, and most didn't know it was satire, and thought it was negative about Obama, whether they actually BELIEVED what the cover depicted or not. You're right that the truly ignorant would never vote for Obama, no matter how much truth you spoonfeed them; but, a great number of professed Democrats also believe that Obama is a muslim, most of whom would vote for him if he were not, many of whom supported Hillary because they thought he was muslim, elitest, unpatriotic, etc. They made up approx. 50%, of the party, judging by her numbers in the popular vote. They wouldn't normally be considered "stupid or uneducated," most; yet, still, they persisted in believing the rumor mill, and many still do. They made up about half the Dem party, so this was more than just the uneducated rednecks, racist hillbillies. And then there's the neocons who believe this garbage. I'm not going to go into it with you about how smart Americans are or are not, but Bush was elected twice, despite Gore's claims about the environmebt, which now, most support, and through disenfranchisment of poor and AA voters, and then, lies about Kerry's war record by Swiftvoters, which were, for the most part, believed. You figure it out.

        • Posted By: mbailiff @ 07/15/2008 1:55:36 PM

You're calling half the democratic party that voted for Clinton low informed and uneducted? Please tell me you did not say that? Obama and the democratic party needs to be untied behind one canidate and calling half the party stupid is not how you bring the party together on election day. It's great that you support Obama but let's not call the democrats who voted for another canidate stupid just because they did not vote for Obama. I think you did not mean to call 17.4 million voters give or take a few stupid and uneducated.

          • Posted By: J.Richter @ 07/15/2008 2:03:48 PM

sebr01stl opinion is one man's opinion. Obviously Obama calling on the Clintons help weekly and trying to help her with retiring her campaign means he doesnt share this opinion.

Why do you put more stock in a random poster's comment on a blog than on the candidate and his actions? Are you looking for an excuse to stay dissilusioned. In a country of 300million people you will always find someone who claims to support Barack say the same thing. You or even a republican could even have psoted the same as well to extend discord among democrats.

In re SUBSCRIPTION CANCELLATIONS over this harm done to the Democratic candidate which benefits Hillary Clinton and John McCain: clinton because she is still trying to hijack the nmnomination; and McCain because he is the beneficiary of the graphic distortions of Obama's character and leadership style, which helps him among the credulous; Yes! the New yorker should feel the pain that comes from attempoting to electioneer and derail Obama's campaign.

The New Yorker is not naive. The folks who bankroll special interests entitlements and corporate oligarchy through teh Clinton adn Bush administrations are working to render him unelectable. Billary began this and now her Clinton=nazi supproters like David Remnick and the publishers of New Yorker are attempting to finish it.

      • Posted By: aminahyaquin @ 07/15/2008 12:33:35 PM

Obama is most assuredly electible, thanks God! Our nation needs a return to its democratic roots and highest ideals. There is one individual who has character and intelligence, wonderful respources and politcal savvy but not craven opportunism to rejuvenate our country.
        That is Obama.

We might make the same mistakes all plurtocracies make. But I ma banking on the wisdom of the American people and the willingness to get beyond racism and propaganda to reality.
Obama is for real. He is the shining hope of our nation.
Billary can appeal to the unededucated and the prejudiced, but they are still outnumbered in USA.. It wwill be very didfficult to fight the rumor mill and slanederers, but I ma banking on the capacity of citizens to ultinmately realize the deceny and anility and humbleness of the Presidential aspirant, who is also beloved, wise and magnanimous.
he is a noble elader for real, and tall the pretenders cannot bury that fact.
We know he is elctibler. What a shame or perhaps even more than that, that Tim Russert, the one man who has bi-partisan power and was standing in the way of the groupthink of the beltway pundits, dies suddenly in an election year in which a Clinton was running.
All the same, Obama is in this for the good of our common people and that will ultimately, God willing transcend the lies and the spin and powerlays of polarization politics and plutoratic greed, and prejudice.

        • Posted By: bbmill243 @ 07/15/2008 2:01:33 PM

I love how you people say "get back to our democratic roots". What do you think "liberal" stands for? It is getting away from this country's roots. Sorry to burst your bubble, but the proper word for that is Conservative. The longer we keep buying into all the bull your lovely democratic party keeps feeding, the more we will stray away from our "roots".
Dont sit here and blame Republicans for the widespread racism Democrats have caused by NEVER letting go of the issue. It is not hard to see who stirs these issues up.
If there are words that definitely do not go with Obama, you used them in your response. Wisdom, intelligence, character, and my favorite......beloved.......give me a break.

  • Posted By: dstro @ 07/15/2008 1:35:46 PM

You both make my points (J Richter & mbailiff) even more clear. I did mean others are playing the race card as I am obviously the one who wrote "noone is willing to mention the underlying issue". And you (Jrichter) are correct I do not know EVERYTHING as I clearly stated I never thought that much about race. Also you need to get your facts correct the Black population is more like 14% (Link http://www.census.gov/Press-Release/www/releases/archives/facts_for_features_special_editions/006088.html) Again it is easy to fix the facts to what we believe they should be. I really do not care what Black people think. I care about what I think and getting my facts correct. I'd like other people regardless of race to get their facts correct as well. They are not terrorist, they do not hate America and Obama is a politician like the rest of them.

    • Posted By: J.Richter @ 07/15/2008 1:53:51 PM

Thanks. My figure was correct. That number includes hispanic blacks who susually vote similar to hispanics, speak spanish, have more close immigration links, and self identify in survey as hispanics. But then again I dont believe this will determine us making the best choice for the next four years. We have had too muchbad decision for the past 8 years. If Barack is not the best person for our country's future the remaining 86% (if you are right or 91%) of the country will add to making sure we do. Why spend your time crying woe is us, 13.4% of the country will choose the worst candidate for us? That's been race focused no other way to dice it.

I hope considering we all got it wrong for the past 8 years.

I am, right now, disputing that the cover is harmful to the Obama campaign, and therefore this statement is indisputably inaccurate. I await your correction.

The cover is meant to be provocative they are trying to sell copies and it's satire, it's a joke, it's funny. Anyone who looks at a cartoon like what is on the cover of the new yorker and thinks oh Obama is a muslim should not be allowed to vote. This is a political cartoon not a documented story in Time magazine. Obviously people are taking this cartoon way too seriously. No one is saying Obama is muslim they are simply poking fun at the stupid rumors that float around on boards like this one. NEXT!

    • Posted By: mhopgood123 @ 07/15/2008 1:17:14 PM

For a satire to ber satire, there has to be some truth into it. When I saw other cartoons by this same artist, there were truths in them. In this one, there is no truth. All it does is reinforce a negative image of Obama and his wife that has been the smear spread by the right wing operatives.I still get e-mails in the mail saying Obama is a Muslim

      • Posted By: mbailiff @ 07/15/2008 1:45:14 PM

The satire is that the lies are so rampantly out there. This cartoon pokes fun at the lies. The 12% that the poll shows who believe Obama to be a muslim is roughly the same number you would get if you polled people asking do you believe the earth is flat. 12% is a very low number and does not mean anything. This cartoon was meant to get attention and it has you could argue been good for Obama because the news media is now stating 24/7 on every news channel that Obama is not muslim. The lie will quickly become debunked now because this cartoon brought attention to the lie.

Only ignorant people will decide to vote based on religion or color. I wouldn't care if he follows Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, or Buddhism. Question you should ask is that would he have the best interest of U.S. citizens/residents, is he qualified & has vision to take U.S.A. to next level? will econonmy thrive under his presedency, would we be seen as liberators or bullies under him?

*sigh* i hate how stupid supportive people can be though... this picture -taken out of context - just reaffirms half of the lies that people think are truths... and half of the population are unfotunately too stupid to get satire, and another half is afraid that what is being satired is actually true.

The New Yorker cover may be way off base; however, Obama has to address the common concern that he is a quasi-Muslim, based on the Muslim tradition in his family history and his long-term association with radical groups. Overall, Americans cannot elect a quasi-terminator who may be programmed to profile and licensed to kill. If Obama fails to demonstrate that there is not a Wright virus tangled in his genome, he has to step aside.

  • Posted By: Libertarian Paternalist @ 07/14/2008 8:23:59 PM

I do not for one second believe in the rumors about Obama. I am more deeply concerned with his affiliation with Rev Wright and the Bill Ayers. to consort with a person that not only is proud to have been a terrorist but even to this day holds the same values? Having for your mentor and personal guide an extreme racialist that lives by spreading racial division and conspiracy theories. My main concern is however his extreme inaccesiblity to media. He is the least accesibel presidantila candidate in modern times, why? As well as a total lack transpareny on what his polices are? Change from what, to where?

What does it say about a man, a person? He did not know? Either he is ignorant or he is worse, culpable. Neither is something one would want in a President.

But Libertarian, maybe pull from your own experience regarding how friends change, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worst. Wanting for give others a second chance and see the good in their heart. Changes in your own life that pulled you away from the community that you care about. This are many things I know I have experience and many other. Research deeply, see how different people were in the past compared to today. Your belief is certainly your to have, but I really feel this is a strethch that is comical! Every generation for the last two thousand years has pointed their fingers at who they thought was the anti-Christ. You have lots of company, however, the Bible also says that we will not know him( the anti-Christ) until he himself reveals who he is!

Obama people need to get a grip. Your hero is facing a bigger challenge. Yep-his glow is going. He is like watching a tennis match on issues. Obama is a nasty man that has trampled on whoever he had to in order to get to the top. Starting with his close friend who lost the US Sen and wanted to run for her seat in the St Sen. Another guy Obama knew was having problems and Obama let the whole thing go so he could win the Sen. Seat. The best friends he has - Wright, Ayers and how many other countless sick people who have bombed this country and said the worst things about white people I've heard. Yet - they want to cry over a little picture - why? does it hurt? is it the truth? Obama people need to cry over somebody else - because the kind of crap I have heard from Obama and Company far out weight that little picture.

Obama has been endoresed and supported by more independents and even republicans. He is up in Missouri and in the latest poll he is up by 9 points. All you GOPers have is a smear fear campaign. Nothing else. Your candidate is weak, has no energy has no vision and offers no hope.

Obama could bite the head off a live bald eagle, thown the carcass on a US Flag, set it all on fire, while smoking crack and chanting an Islamic prayer, and not lose a single black vote.

It may cost him two eggheads (PETA People) but zero Blacks.

You belong somewhere else not on this board. Your comments have nothing to do with reality. Why are you so concerned about what blacks do or dont do. Forget that you presume to know EVERYTHING about that. They make up 8.5% of the country you know!

Your comment here is the real RACE card alert.

That in my opinion, is a very offensive comment. How dare you speak for others? You have no idea who votes for whom and for what reasons. Besides, not all blacks are for Obama as you say. Obama will win on his own merits, regardless of who votes for him.
