Comment: "Not all Democrats agree with Mr. Frank that such policies are off-limits to criticism. Last week Rep. Artur Davis of Alabama said in a statement: 'Like a lot of my Democratic colleagues I was too slow to appreciate the recklessness of Fannie and Freddie. I defended their efforts to encourage affordable homeownership, when in retrospect, I should have heeded the concerns raised by their regulator in 2004. Frankly, I wish my Democratic colleagues would admit when it comes to Fannie and Freddie, we were wrong.'

"Mr. Davis is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus."

    'Rank snobbery'

Camille Paglia, who supports Sen. Barack Obama, has nothing but scorn for the way the media has treated Sarah Palin.

"The mountain of rubbish poured out about Palin over the past month would rival Everest. What a disgrace for our jabbering army of liberal journalists and commentators, too many of whom behaved like snippy jackasses," Miss Paglia writes at www.salon.com.

"The bourgeois conventionalism and rank snobbery of these alleged humanitarians stank up the place. As for Palin's brutally edited interviews with Charlie Gibson and that viper, Katie Couric, don't we all know that the best bits ended up on the cutting-room floor? Something has gone seriously wrong with Democratic ideology, which seems to have become a candied set of holier-than-thou bromides attached like tutti-frutti to a quivering green Jell-O mold of adolescent sentimentality."

    Comment: The Antichrist!:
When George Soros failed to obtain the election of his candidate, John Kerry, in 2004, he brooded for a while, even said he might get out of politics altogether, but he just couldn???t stop himself. He has stated publicly that he wishes to burst the ???bubble of American supremacy,??? because he says our preeminence in the world is a detriment to global ???equilibrium.??? So far, he has failed, but he keeps on trying.

And Mr. Soros has made no secret either of the fact that he sees the shortest way to effect political shake-ups, what he terms ???regime changes,??? is through very difficult economic conditions.

America has not yet felt the full force of Soros style economic shock treatment. But others have.

Soros made his first billion in 1992 by shorting the British pound with leveraged billions in financial bets, and became known as the man who broke the Bank of England. He broke it on the backs of hard-working British citizens who immediately saw their homes severely devalued and their life savings cut drastically in comparative worth almost overnight.

When the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997 threatened to spread globally, George Soros was right in the thick of it. Soros was accused by the Malaysian Prime Minister of causing the collapse with his monetary machinations, and he was branded in Thailand as an ???economic war criminal??? who ???sucks the blood from the people.??? Right in the middle of this crisis, Soros dashed off his book, The Crisis of Global Capitalism, which demanded a ???third way??? toward economic stability.

Wake up, America, before it is too late!!!!

Comment: Just a note on the impeachment issue and Clinton: Two presidents were impeached: Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton. Johnson was later acquitted, and Clinton was impeached only by the House; the Senate acquitted him. The only reason Nixon escaped impeachment was that he resigned before the sessions could be convened, and, then, of course, Gerald Ford pardoned him.

Comment: Didn't anyone read the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Report that investigated the Plame/Wilson incident? According to the investigation, which included copies of Plame's e-mails on the subject and her CIA peer's testimony Plames and Wilson are both truth challenged. Wilson's op ed piece was in direct contradiction to the briefings he gave to the CIA. Plame's denials of suggesting her husband for Niger trip were contradicted by the copies of her emails and testimony. In addition, Fitzgerald knew Armitage to be the leaker before he began the investigation. The tax payers got to pay for another Special Counsel investigation that began after the Fitzgerald knew the identity of the leaker and Libby wasn't even the leaker. We have a do nothing Congress that allows the citizens who elected them to be saddled with exorbitant gas and heating oil prices, while Pelosi won't even allow the drill bills out of committee. We have baseball players being grilled about steroids and now we witness another taxpayer funded fishing expedition. I thought these people were elected to be about the people's business. According to the US Geological Survey we have billions of barrels of oil off the Continental Shelf and in the Bakken Formation and Congress can't have a discussion about this because of political games. If the Democrats are really on the side of the poor and downtrodden then they need to try to solve the oil costs before the poor and downtrodden freeze this winter.

The lose of congressional approval was earned! Worked for! And it came to them! They should lecture Americans less and not be so judgementive and hatefull. This low approval is not creating conditions for an Obama win! It's his party that made the mess!

Comment: We need to send Bush and Cheney to Abu Ghraib for crimes against the U.S.

  • Posted By: C. MacLean @ 07/18/2008 1:58:42 PM

Comment: Bush, Rumsfeld, Rice, and Gonzalez and now Mukasey all need to be tried for high crimes and misdemeanors against the US Constitution, for (1) their continuing efforts to suspend the writ of habeas corpus with regard to the policy of rendition, (2) their refusal to uphold the Geneva Convention and other treaties entered into by the US, and (3) their continuing efforts to undermine the separation of the three branches of government.

Cheney, however, needs to be tried for treason against his country for deliberately promoting the leaking of a covert CIA agent's identity.

Both Clinton and Nixon committed crimes that deserved impeachment - both had to do with lying, cover-ups, and obstruction of justice. (And while Clinton's sexual nonsense may not be on the same level as paying thieves to break into someone's office, what Clinton did was nothing short of sexual harassment - if he had been a republican CEO dipping into the secretarial pool instead of a popular democrat playing with an intern, the feminists would have demanded he be tarred and feathered.)

Bush, Rumsfeld, Rice, Gonzalez, and Mukasey are also part of this general lying/cover up/obstruction of justice pattern as Clinton and Nixon (and you may throw LBJ in there a well).

Cheney, however, may well have committed treason, and may be a traitor to his country.

Impeachment is bad enough; treason is a hanging offense.

Richy was an opportunist who was worried when the Plame case hit the fan and ran for cover. Karl, as in Karl Marx, Rove outed Plame to Novak. Novak had mentioned Valerie wilson's name in a discussion and Rove told novak she was Valerie Plame, a covert agent. end of story. It's a non-issue these days but questioning Rove or Cheney about it will include questions about the plot to invent the evidence that caused the invasion of iraq and the ensuing deaths of more than 4000 of our young servicemen and womer. to believe that Richard Armitage was the source, you would have to believe that Skooter Libby lied to protect the "anti Bush" Armitage. Your argument is, to be kind, FEEBLE>

Comment: For RetiredMarine, I was a Navy man but I party hardy with more than a few Marines stationed in Norfolk, when i'm visiting. Everyone of them got a sick look on their face when McCain's name came up. McCain, in case you didn't know, led the Armed Services committee sent to investigat the possible existance of MIAs in Veit Nam. It was mcCain who declared that no MIAs remained alive there. In 1998 a Sergeant name Gresham from Seattle reported that his study found that as many as 160 MIAs were still in captivity. Now I know how incredible this sounds. how could that be? Here's my point, even if the Sergeant's info is incorrect, how could McCain make such a definitive remark? And why? The fact tnat mccain's stock couldn't be higher there has been the result. Cindy's recent "smiles" tour certainly proved that, where she was welcomed with open arms by the communists. If you're a retired Marine, who knows, i know I'm not a professional bass fisherman, then these oaths should ring a bell Semper Fi and No Man Left Behind!

Comment: From what I have seen retiredMarine is right on target. Now why in the world would you mention that about McCain. It has nothing to do with running for President, if POW's were found to be alive, and McCain was president, then is the time to judge him. How long has it been since the 160 MIA were said to be alive and is the fact varifiable? So this Sergeants report was made in 1998 and when was Sen. McCanins remark made and to what group. There is enough holes in this story to drive a truck through, or better yet a Battle Ship, if there is any left. :-)

Comment: I think there is enough evidence to successfully impeach both Bush and Cheney and the only thing preventing that from happening is the repeated use of "executive privilege". The current administration is already seen as the worst in history - and I think future generations are going to find criminal evidence in these actions someday down the road when these documents finally become public. It's shameful and disgraceful, no matter what side of the aisle you sit on.

  • Posted By: RetiredMarine @ 07/17/2008 1:31:20 PM

Comment: This article and many posts here are problematic with what is wrong with the system and the constant finger pointing going on between parties. Simply look at the statements being made. Democrats make it a point to blast at republicans at any opportunity. (Republicans do the same - but I have seen more "one sided views" from democrats.) Some comments talk about the "administration" and blame placing. How quickly they forget the Clintons (democrats). Getting information out of them is like pulling teeth on an alert Lion - just not happening. Yet comments make it out as if it is a "republican" epedemic. Many bloggers here are beyond hypocritical - it is more like they live in a fantasy world of their own. Lets look at the current administration since fifi down below talk about republicans wanting to impeach Clinton.... With Clinton, there were many of his own stupid actions that warranted impeachment (i.e. lying under oath. I don't care about the "sex" as he didn't understand it... The fact that under oath he chose to perjure himself is a big issue - the same act that would have landed several of us in Leavenworth). Anyway, since recent history seems to be lost on a few people here, democrats in congress were moving to impeach Bush from the beginning of his administration simply because he wouldn't be their puppet. He didn't fold to their wishes so "impeach, impeach" was heard on several occasion. No mention of a crime, no proof or substance, simply impeach on innuendos. If this behavior isn't that of hypocrites, please tell me what is. I know many will be offended but I simply don't care. I loath party politics and those engaged therin. Even for these probes to be an issue during a presidential race is suspect. Why now? why not wait? Answer - a political ploy to not promote a candidate, but smear his opponent based on party affiliation.

Comment: Trying to defend the Bush administration is ludicrous, at best. An exercise in futility. I am a history major and have never, ever found any president in American history who has broken so many laws; not even Nixon. The really annoying thing about it is that Bush, Cheney, Lott, Abramoff, Michael Scanlon, Ralph Reed, Gonzales...Halliburton...."no WMDs"...lying to the American public about the cause of the Iraq War...the deaths of 4,000 American soldiers, the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens...Katrina debacle where our President had no idea that there had been a hurricane in New Orleans and his side-kicks had to make a DVD for him to view before flying OVER the devastation...Every general who disagreed with Rumsfeld was "retired". How many are there now? Five, six, seven....I I could go on and on and on. Members of this administration are EVIL, plain and simple and they couldn't care less about the American people. Dick Cheney said it best...."f**** you", when he uttered that phrase in the
United States Congress, AND HE MEANT IT.
How naive are you people, anyway? The GOP had "W" picked out ten years before he became President in 2000, because he was easily maneuvered into doing what he was told. His brother Jeb was the other choice and is much more intelligent, so the party couldn't settle on him. Cheney wanted to conquer the Middle East when he was in government 25 years ago. It was supposed to be a snap...get access to all of the oil we wanted...If this isn't true, why did we settle on Iraq instead of Korea? It was building bombs and had persecuted its people for 50 years. ANSWER: NO OIL.....
Wake up and smell the coffee, people.

    • Posted By: bwlear @ 07/17/2008 3:31:51 PM

Comment: While I understand your lying under oath point, I think you miss the big picture, Clinton should never have been under goverment investigation for his sex life in the first place. For a party that preaches less goverment intrusion and involvement in Americans lives, they sure were interested in who Bill was sleeping with when he was President. This ONLY happened after the Republican led Congress could not get him for Whitewater. They spent millions of taxpayer dollars in an attempt to smear Clinton and stop his administration from accomplishing anything effective during its second term while the so called " Contract with America" was preparing us for Enron, WorldCom, a. Anderson, and yes, 9/11.
As for your claim that the Democrats were out to get Bush from the beginning of his administration, who controlled Congress after BOTH of his electorial wins? And even after Dems won a slim majority, didnt the leadership come out and say that impeachment was " off the table " despite what the majority of Dems wanted? And even you have to admit that this administration has done things to warrent serious consideration even if you did vote for them. There is no comparison between what Clinton was accused of and did when placed next to what Bush and his crew have done.

      • Posted By: RetiredMarine @ 07/17/2008 3:49:42 PM

Comment: that is my exact point. There are many accusations floating out there about "What Bush did", but no supstance behind them. If someone has committed a crime - so be it, bring them to justice. But there had better be more than accusations. So far, there are none. Even your post states "what Bush did....", so, my question is... what did Bush do? Give us the accusation and substantial reason to go after him other than someone's heresay. Don't you think that if Bush was guilty of something, the democrats in congress would have him up on charges? Problem is that they have nothing. So continuation of the rumors is an immoral tool being used. As I said, both parties do it. In this particulat blog behind Cheney, I simply find it interesting that it comes up now during a presidential race. This could have come up earlier during primaries, it could have come up before, it could come up later. But the timing is just another misuse of the press and a gross misconduct on a political party to sway voters on emotion rather than fact. This is one of MANY reasons I hate party politics.

Dems are trying to get any of the many wrong doings and illegalities prosecuted to prevent anyone in the Future to follow in the same correupt footsteps, whether it be Dems or Reps. How many millions were spent on Whitewater that yielded nothing. And a blow job can hardly be compared to illegal suveillance - breaking the FISA law, eliminating habeous corpes so you can hold anyone at will in jail, or worse, without charge, taking us into Iraq for no good reason and the subsequent deaths of several Americans and thousands of Iraqi, approving torture not acceptable to either the International Red Cross or the World Court, letting Bin Laden get away, ignoring New Orleans with Katrina, and on and on and on. Oh, and who was on watch when Al Qaida orchestrated 9/11. Geese, how uterly preposterous it is to compare this administration with the Clintons, as if they are of equal disgust. Hey, we had money in the bank when Clinton left. This admin. is bankrupting today's and future generations. So go put a sock it in retired marine. Your argument in based in too many false comparisons. This is what the result of the 2006 Congressional elections revealed by the vast majority of voters. If you think 2006 was bad for the GOP, wait until the results come in for 2008. To use criminal investigations to uncover great wrongdoing at this time will hopefully stop Bush from doing more in the time he has left, but I doubt it. His AG just made up a reason to keep Cheney off the hook. Anyone else who breaks the law goes to jail or pays a fine. These guys do it repeatedly and when caught, either use executive privelege B.S. or Congress changes the law. The activity to attempt to prosecute is the exaxt right thing to do at this time. It also sets an expectation for the next administration.

Comment: Bush should be impeached, as Clinton was almost during his Presidency. The reason we can't find criminal charges to bring Bush and his cronies up on is because they will not let us see ANY documentation! Anything that could lead to charges is immediately classified! All of the proof that you speak of is denied access.
Why not wait? Because if criminal behavior has went on, it likely is STILL going on, and must be stopped. If you murdered someone, do you think the police would wait around to arrest you? Um, no.

Comment: Isn't it ironic that the 3 most prominent African-Americans in the Bush Administration, Rice, Powell and Thomas, have all betrayed the American People. Rice and Powell manufacturer's of the phony evidence that has caused more than 4000 deaths of our bravest and best young men and women sevice people in Iraq and Thomas who has time and time again voted on the side of those who would deny citizens their god given rights. How dispicable. bella12

    • Posted By: bwlear @ 07/17/2008 1:04:27 PM

Comment: You seem to give the African Americans in this administration a lot of credit despite the facts. Gen. Powell RESIGNED because he was required to give testimony before the U.N. on information he felt was not completly accurate. I blame it on the "solder mentality" he came in with, follow lawfull orders and debate the merits later. It was a well known fact that he disagreed with the neo-cons on Iraq but because he refuses to publicly express his issues, or even "leak" the information as this administration is so good at, you call him a traitor.
Sec. Rice on the other hand is simply a mouthpiece for the administration. How someone that intellegent can continually allow herself to be used in that manner is beyound my ability to comprehend.
As for justice Thomas, I cant give the Bush administration credit for him as much as I would like too.He is not the only one appointed by a Republican President who has shamed the American people by continually eroiding the rights of privacy and freedom. He just happens to be the only black one. There has to be a majority of votes for the court to take action. That means 5 are responsible and 4 of those are white.
As for who is the real source of betrayal is, look at Bush, Chaney, Rove, and Rumsfield. These are the people in positions of power and influence who have made policy and are directly responsible for the direction this country is currently going in.

      • Posted By: Bass Pro @ 07/17/2008 3:17:06 PM

Comment: I'm not clear on why you would want to defend these 3. Rice and Powell were part of the plot, surely you know this. The fact that you can't comprehend it is beside the point. The fact is that neither has come forward to expose that they were part of an evil plan that has cost the lives of more than 4000 people. It's not enough that Powell flew the coop after testifying that yellow cake Uranium was in the possession of Hussein. Just because he was worried about his own ass doesn't mitigate the fact that he sent soldiers to the slaughter on false information suppied by him. if your defense of powell is that he managed to escape testimony that would have saved the lives of those service men and women, I wonder why.
He, Rice and Thomas are traitors in every sense of the word.

      • Posted By: summer4077 @ 07/17/2008 1:40:32 PM

Comment: I still regard Gen. Powell as someone with honor and integrity. He resigned, like you said, because he could not lie to his country. His resignation spoke volumes to me about the war in Iraq. He is an intelligent, honorable man...if he was against it, there was (and still is) good reason. Unfortunately, his reputation was tarnished by Bush, as so many others have been, too.
I think bass pro is a troll, trying to get a reaction. Rice is a silly mouthpiece, sure. She's made a fool of herself. Neither Rice nor Thomas have done half the lying and criminal behavior of Bush, Cheney, Rove, and Rumsfield.

        • Posted By: Bass Pro @ 07/17/2008 3:34:05 PM

Comment: summer4977, I'm not a troll. Powell and Rice lied and are part of the gang of 5 who sent our young men and women to their deaths using cooked up information. The remainder of the group Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld are certainly very much more complicit, no question. Please tell me what is honorable about a man, Colin Powell, who resigned to save his own ass. Did he expose the plot? No! Did he say that he gave false evidence? No! Powell tarnished his ownreputation when he lied and caused the deaths of thousands of people. The fact that Rice and Thomas are not as accomplished liars as the others is hardly something one would want on their resume. Who am i trying to get a rise out of anyway? I have made this point dozens of times on this blog. The gang of 5 caused the deaths of thousands of people. For you to call Rice and Powell honorable is just wrong.

Comment: Don't Blame this self-center, greedy, power seeking, sick group in our White House, that have lied and cheated, and robbed our people. We put them in office. Don't look back. Let us put someone in office that can tell the truth. Again I have to ask, Who is feeding us fear? Who is Gossiping about the other. Who is pointing fingers at one while three fingers are pointing to themself. Yes, the rich shell rull the poor, as they have done for the last 24 years,(Bush, Clinton, Bush). Can two walk together unless they agree. This Bush wants McCain in office so he can cover the dirt that has been dug-out by the enemy (the citizens of THE USA.) Bush and his cronies believe they are above the law. We the people have to rise above the trash and work toward a better calling. We the people will overcome this disgrace and learn from it.
I wonder if the Kings who planned it all are really satified, the play their game of checkers and 4000+ have died. Let us not let them die in vain. They died trying to build a better WORLD>.

Comment: What a mess!!! Remember how the Republicans were so hell bent to impeach Clinton over Monica??
This Administration is so corrupt it makes the old Solviet Union look like a good place to live. As a Democrat, I'm totally disgusted that there is NO leadership to prosecute these criminals and make them stand trial for their crimes. We the People had better start demanding the elected senators, congress, and house members do "OUR" work!

    • Posted By: RetiredMarine @ 07/17/2008 1:43:02 PM

Comment: As an independant, I am disgusted at all the accusations of crimes with no substance to back up the accusations. The very people you want to "do our work" are the corrupt senators and congressmen who haven't really been representing us to begin with. You don't want the truth, you want lynching because you don't support the president. That is VERY typical of the democrat side. Thw whinning and crying and demands for courts to get involved if their candidate isn't elected.... Sorry, but that;'s been my observation over the past several elections. It is rare that the democrats ever come together after an election to support a republican president. The republican side most often seem to at least try to reach accross and support after elections - makes me lean toward republican if I wanted to join a party. (Rather go with the prosecuted side than with the cry babies) How soon you forget that democrats in congress were "Hell bent" on impeaching Bush from the start of his presidency... they seemed to look for any excuse, even if there were no substance to back up an accusation.

If you believe that the Soviet Union would be a better place to live, there are countries pretty similar. No one is stopping you from moving. Having seen these countries, I am confident in saying that you probably have never even left the us to see the world...

In a few years the GOP will be relegated to third party status and the Democratic party will thrive. Adios to the mouth-breathing luntic fringe.

    • Posted By: RetiredMarine @ 07/17/2008 5:23:58 PM

"Above the Law" - yes you did forget about Clinton. There isn't any party affiliation were this problem dosn't exist. Problem is our politicians are all pretty much corrupt, represent their own interests rather than the interests of the people they are supposed to represent, and continue to attempt to enlarge government to the point where they want to control our everyday lives. Liberals need to wake up and smell the BS

    • Posted By: Yuseff @ 07/17/2008 11:15:53 AM

Comment: The reason we can't arrest them is because the that would mean an indictment by a U.S. Attorney then arrest by (probably) the FBI. The U.S. Attorney's office and the FBI are controlled by the Executive branch, the president. The president would simply order both agencies to drop the investigation.

If you start yelling impeachment, the president and all involved would be out of office before the ball got rolling.

  • Posted By: olderwiser @ 07/17/2008 10:39:16 AM

Comment: The essence of the last eight years of this administration is that they are all privileged citizens, above the law, and otherwise above everybody they govern, and definitely not public servants. Instead, they serve nobody but themselves and a small percentage of privileged people who also must be wealthy to receive this honor. The FBI should treat them just like any ordinary citizen when they investigate a crime by asking a suspect to come in and have a "friendly" conversation. The conversation is not really "friendly" and anything that the unsuspecting lout might say can help send him to the penitentiary if he doesn't hire legal counsel to be beside at all times and caution him to be careful what is said. An inaccurate slip of the tongue can make a lot of difference. If Cheney took his chances without legal counsel at his side and made the usual mistakes in what he said, then he should be indicted by now. Instead, we see the same attitude that, by now, should have alienated the whole country from these undeserving people who have almost ruined this country with their bumbling national and international stupidity, wars, economy and all.
We know by the fact of hiding the facts, that Cheney committed a crime. Otherwise, as they always say about other "common" criminals, "if he didn't do anything wrong, then why is he hiding the truth". The interview should have gone to the Attorney General's office, and they should have prepared an indictment.
You see what happened instead. This administration is concealing a crime committed by its second highest office holder, and possibly even its highest office holder, strictly based in privilege, and for no other reason. This is what Kings, Dukes, Earls, and other officials of royalty do when Men rule over Law. We are a country of Laws, not Men. There is nothing to do about it but to vote it down in landslide proportions. Good luck with your ballot in November. If you decide to vote, instead, on the issue of what people do with their pee pees, then you will deserve what you get when the same outfit stays in office.

After all, why should we be able to hold Republicans accountable for anything?

Bushies don't need facts.....they just want you to know that they are right.

The economy has made great progress. Obama supporters are welfare sponges. Democrats are traitors. Republicans are patriots. America is admired around the world. The constitution is for weaklings. Everyone to the left of Dick Cheney is a socialist. We now own Mexico and China. The Saudis beg us for more oil. The millions facing foreclosure are whiners. The largest income inequality since the Great Depression is meaningless. Al-Qaeda has been destroyed. Iran has been weakened. Federal spending over the last 8 years has reduced by a trillion dollars. Scientific facts are a liberal conspiracy. 82% who think the country is on the wrong track drink kool-aid. 66% who disapprove of Bush are communists. Upper-income tax cuts during war make sense. The dollar has never been stronger. NAFTA creates jobs. Only greedy poor people and the media bellyache about skyrocketing gas prices.
