I used to be a big supporter of the ACLU, but have started questioning some of their responses. I am all for individual expression, but some of these "fashion statements" have gone a little too far. Pants that are hanging a bit off the hips and showing a small portion of underwear should be acceptable. However, I see many people with them hanging way down below their crotch area and some boxers have that easy access slit in the front. Let's face it, although they may not be intentionally showing their private area, if that slit is open at all, you can see their business and I for one don't want to see that part of their body. I am pretty liberal, but I forbid my sons to wear their pants too low when they were growing up and today they dress respectively. I have had to discipline and even terminate employees who refused to conform to a dress code at work and insisted on wearing their pants hanging below the private area. Not exactly the view someone wants to see when they are eating dinner in a restaurant.

P.s i am not a "BRO " (learn to spell).I am a female (non-afarican-american).what if I was too make the comment that alcohol should be banned because native americans do not have the hormone in their liver it takes to metabolize alcohol and therefore gets drunk alot quicker than the average non-native american. It's being a long time it is time to turn your negativity into something positive; you sound bitter

This "style" came about as a result of former inmates dressing on the street the way they did in prison (where finding clothes that fit is difficult at times) to announce that they had done time. In my opinion, anything the discourages our youth from acting like felons is a good that strengthens the moral fiber of the community. Good for the police chief for standing up for this!

is this really an issue. think about everything going on in the world is this really an issue .come on adults, let's all grow up and get our priorities straight. this is not an issue it is a chance to blame.

Some of the people on this board sound like they have never been to a public beach, you see people as near naked as can be and a public street is PUBLIC meaning for everyone, sagging is the times and you do not have to like it but you do have to live with it. With each new generation comes new fashion statements get used to it or stay home.

It seems this is directed primarily towards men. What about women with their thong hanging out the back of their ill fitting lowrise jeans?

      finally. the voice of reason.

I hate it too. I feel.....If your young, it's a reflection on your family.
If your older, it's a reflection of how you don't respect yourself and your "sagging" self esteem. If you want to make a "statement" why not make a positive one! I would not hire anyone dressed like that. Because it's a reflection I do not want associated with me or mine.

If you were an executive at Warner, Sony, or Universal music groups you would!

Your talent isn't in your sagging pants, it's your heart and mind.

  • Posted By: canem95 @ 07/18/2008 2:16:03 PM

I think the authorities should do something about sagging. I don't see anyone coming from Wall Street, the Senate, any CEOs sagging. I am a young African-American female and I am sick and tired of seeing these young men show they boxer shorts and BVDs. Why can't they find another way to express themselves. I believe that Freedom of Expression is a poor excuse for the sloppy style.

    • Posted By: RMiller007 @ 07/18/2008 2:23:20 PM

Because they don't have to. I see CEO screwing over thousands of people while wearing $1000 suits, should I switch and act like them.

  • Posted By: Warpfactor @ 07/18/2008 2:23:07 PM

I don't like this "fad". They say it is a form of expression...well so is public nudity...if you want to allow sagging then allow public nudity. If you allow one form of expression then you have to allow it all no matter how offensive it is to some people.

I was born and raised in Flint. There are worse things for the Police to be concerned about. How about crime and drugs? If you don't like your kids sagging their pants, pull them UP! Other than that, I don't see anything else that can be done. Having the police waste precious time on a person's sagging pants vs. controlling "real" crime in the city is just ignorant to me.

They have the right to dress that way, and I have the right to not hire them to represent my non-subsidized business.

Okay...what is with that one comment about this 'sagging' being made by gay men in prison? Who cares if they are gay? Wow...the amount of bigotry in this world is insane.
Also, arresting people for letting their boxers show isn't right. In beach towns, they let men and women walk down the street in their swim wear so what is the huge deal if a man is showing the top of his boxers? At least it's not a thong bikini.

THATS HOW THE WHOLE THING GOT STARTED!!! SAY IT ISNT SO,AND YOUR A STRAIT DUMBASS

      • Posted By: Just Us Plz! @ 07/18/2008 2:20:58 PM

Sounds like saggin sucks has spent a lot of time with men in prison!!

I hate this fad....my son dresses like this and it's disgusting. He know walks bo-legged because of it. Figure, you have to walk that way to keep the pants at the level you need them to be.

    • Posted By: tiredofidiots @ 07/18/2008 2:18:37 PM

If he's a minor and living at home, you're the parent. Do your job and stop him!!! STOP buying those types of clothes. HELLO!!!

  • Posted By: Just Us Plz! @ 07/18/2008 2:18:14 PM

Body odor is offensive as well should we outlaw that?? So are the spiked hair dos especially in movies or public forums, but they are perfectly legal. Rush Limbaugh is offensive but in America we are free to express ourselves, the government is not here to make personal decisions for us and if you support this type of government intervention move to a communist country!!

It's time someone took action to get some ;rules; back in America! This "do what you want, feel good society" is a recipe to chaos. No one looks good on the streets anymore. There are no dress codes, no morals and no values! Without tradition and rules you have no civilization.

I do not care to see people "sagging", it looks even more pitiful on older men but it is not a crime we live in a free country and self expression is one of our freedoms. If they are not being obscene, showing nudity in public, then leave them alone and stop wasting manpower and money harassing them.

The kids that think it looks cool or hip obviously do not have much parental guidance. I have 3 sons and they all have tried to get out of the house looking like a punk and I put a stop to it. you can call it sagging if you want but let's call it what it is"STUPID"

    • Posted By: cmtrujillo76 @ 07/18/2008 1:43:16 PM

I agree that parents need to grow up as well. I have five kids and my oldest son already tried to leave the house sagging, but instead he got in trouble. Pants went into the trash and I found a good, snug pair of pants. Parents wonder how things happen after their child gets in trouble, but maybe they should look at their parenting skills first.

      • Posted By: tiredofidiots @ 07/18/2008 2:14:20 PM

Would you two PLEASE start a parenting school to teach most of America how parenting should be done. Then, maybe their kids would show the respect that is SERIOUSLY lacking today.

        MAJOR KUDOS TO YOU BOTH!!!!!
