TOO FUNNY FOR WORDS --- Libs whine over anything except the God Damning of America that is!

The cover is satirizing things said or implied repeatedly by cable news networks about Obama; questions about his patriotism, his wife's "radicalism," his religion and upbringing, are raised over and over again on tv, starting with Fox, migrating to CNN, then spreading from there. Why are you attacking the satire of this, which -- even if it fails completely to be understood as satire by some or many -- is much less harmful to Obama or to simple accuracy than the original slanders that this cover tries to mock? Where is your indignant article about the claims made on Fox that Obama is a Muslim, that they have a "secet tape" of Michelle, that he may be an anti-Semite deep down, etc., etc.? To attack a New Yorker cover cartoon and stay silent about Sean Hannity false accusations and insinuations? Maybe it's because you're a regular on Fox yourself?

I am more concerned with The New Yorker working to elect Barack Obama than anything else. Obama is a disaster for progressive democratic politics. If The New Yorker really wanted to do sharp satire, they would have depicted Obama as a candidate running for the nomination of the Republican Party.

Seems to me that in order to level the playing field what the New Yorker needs to do is run a cover of John McCain with a tiny mustache dressed in the garb of a Nazi stormtrooper - that would be great satire.

Just as bit of aside, I've read many of the posting here and would like to ask the left leaning writer to consider a style change. If the people on the left are so smart, so sophisticated and more knowledgeable than the misfits on the right, would you please consider using more creative language? I mean, repeated use of the phrase "McSame" or "McBush" is boring, very boring. Can't you geniuses come up with something better? In other words, don't you run a huge risk of reader alienation using that "McSame" phrase? If I see that 'same' phrase another ten thousand times between now and this same time in October, I'm going to think that use of that same phrase refers to another idiot leftist. Get it??

Sorry Eleanor, but the New Yorker cover was a bit a of "Freudian" slip in that it did capture more than a bit of the truth about those Obamas. It is a well documented fact that the Missus hates the U.S. As to Mr. Obama himself, one need only look at the hate filled church he belonged to for 20 years to get the idea that Obama likely has Muslim "hate the U.S." ideas. Just because shills for the Mainstream Media insist that Obama is some kind of Christian means nothing. The MSM will say anything to help Obama and hurt McCain. While the New Yorker cover may be a little overblown, there is much truth to it!

John McLaughlin, James Carville, Jesse Jackson and Barack Obama are talking.
McLaughlin: "Barack, I'm sorry I called you an Oreo. That was tasteless and offensive."
Carville: "And I'm sorry I said you didn't have any cajones. That was also tastless and offensive."
Jesse: " And I'm sorry I said I'd like to cut off your nuts, if you have any that is."
Barack: "Don't worry about it guys. Despite what they say, I can take a joke. It was all in good fun."
Jesse: "Well, Barack, I don't know about these other guys, but I wasn't joking. I really would like to cut your nuts off.
    Barack (LOL): Good one, Jesse.

Nice article. But I don't have the faith you (Ms. Clift) have in anyone, whether in the media or the American public to not have "issues" with a person of color running for President. I'm not holding my breath that this country will "change" all that much.

    Again Newsweek's bias is clear.

Approved by the Campaign to Eliminate Humor in Politics If It's Aimed at Barack Obama:
Bill Clinton and Barack Obama are talking. Bill says, "You know, Barack, no matter what happens, I'll still go down in history as the FIRST black President of the United States." Barack says, "But you know, Bill, you're not REALLY black." Bill thinks a minute and says, "That's true, but I was REALLY the President."

Good cartoon about a bad candidate-STICK! "Cling" and "bitter" stupid comments-STICK! Buddies with accused terrorist in the USA-STICK!
Maybe the New Yorker is trying to purchace the appearence that the New Yorker opposes Obama to pre-position some NEUTRALITY, for the day the New Yorker blasts Mccain and urges everyone to support Obama!
A strategy! Which will also stick! Like so many other things. And more counting...
...sees fallen heroes not there-STICK! And whats he going to say and mean or not mean over seas?
I'd like to see him urge the Euros to all learn to speak (Mexican) Spanish!

Your opinion piece berates the New Yorker because its cartoon can be understood as anti-Obama. Therefore, your position is really troubling. Are you saying that the New Yorker should do nothing that can be understood as anti-Obama? Are you saying that satirists should do nothing that can be understood as anti-Obama? May I ask you, why? Why can't the New Yorker be the New Yorker and satirists satirists? How much should we, the ordinary American folk, give to ensure Obama's election? Why is your magazine willing to designate itself as pro-Obama, pro-PC, anti-satire, and anti-free speech?

This joke has been officially approved by " Barak Obama Can't Be Made Fun Of Committee"
Ma and Pa Kettle are driving to church on Sunday in their Chevy pick-up truck with 7 kids in the back dressed in clean, pressed overalls. Pa sez to Ma: "Now that our girl lost, who ya gonna vote for." Ma sez: "i'm still votin' for Hillary." Pa sez, "How ya gonna do that Ma? She ain't gonna be on the ballot." Ma sez: " Well, I guess I'll jes rite her name in." Pa sez: "Damn Ma, I didn't know you could rite."

Seems to me that columnists writing about this tend to perpetuate this non-issue. IMO, those who "believe" that the cover represents reality probably have no intention of voting for Obama no matter what. Yes, what the New Yorker did is shameful - so shameful that it is not worthy of comment and we should simply ignore it.

    • Posted By: Cressonpa @ 07/19/2008 1:38:11 PM

Ignore it ? You are kidding -Have you seen the Tshirts and decals ?

Eleanor, ARE YOU SERIOUS??? Barry Obama is a whiner, a constant complainer, generally a narcistic male chauvinist. Why do you think the Hillary females are not supporting him? He's arrogant and condescending. This is satire, and if he can't take this stupid crap, how is he going to be thick-skinned enough to be president? Does anyone realize that this picture just hit too close to home to Barry and angry Michelle. The truth hurts, and when normal people, not the "in-the-tank" for Osama (oops, Obama) MSM, wake up and get this, this guy will be soundly defeated. But, please, wake up before its too late. Don't you think its a bit odd that the Palestinians are for Obama, and not Israel. The terrorists want Obama to win. That scares me. But lets be very clear about this: Obama will do anything and say anything, and throw anyone under the bus who gets in his way, to be elected. God help us.

    LOL.............
Definition of New Yorker terrribly offensive cover: when it lampoons a warm and fuzzy Dem / leftie.
Definition of a New Yorker terribly satirical and humorous cover: when il lampoons a Rep. / rightie.
    Simple, eh?

Elanor-Just read these comments-You are so out of touch--Keep it up-With Hussein Obama moving to the center ,his cabal of 18-34 voters will quickly lose thier passion for their naive causes.
Churcill said"If you are not a liberal @ 20 ,you have no heart" if you are not a Conservative by 40 ,you have no brain"- If you are over 40 and lib/marxist /socialist you are just not very bright.

As someone who has been in adverstising and marketing most of my adult life, I can tell you why the New Yorker cover struck a nerve: because it resonates. Why? Because we know so little about Obama, but what we DO know (his judgments, his associations, his pastor, his wife, etc.) SUPPORTS, in the worst way, the New Yorker cover. It was effective because it has glimmers of truth running through it. And that is why it will be with us until election day.
