So now that we know that their are "approved" jokes that you can tell about Obama, Here's One:

2 Hillarybillies are sitting on a fence chewin' tobacca and cleanin' their guns. One says, "Now that our girl lost, who ya gonna vote for, Bubba?" Bubba says, "Well, not Barack Obama. He's got a funny name and he's a MORMON." Billy Bob says, "Bubba, That's Mitt Romney!" Bubba scratches his haid, thinks a minute and says, "I didn't know Mitt Romney was black."

Elanor you have lost it._So have all the far left and east coast socialists. This guy at best is a girly man.No self -respecting man or patriot will vote for this Marxist. Higher taxes,no energy plan other than ,do with less. His wife is an angry racist .Just picturing her in the Whitehouse is enough to convince soccer moms to be repulsed. Rev.Wright ,Ayers and the drug use---The fun has just begun !

Why does the MSM continue to be cheerleaders for one specific presidential candidate. If Obama can't handle it, he shouldn't be running for the highest office of the land. Get over yourselves!

It is is difficult to discern Mr. Obama's core beliefs because he works hard to leave no trail. In three years as a senator, Mr. Obama voted "present" 130 times (rather than say "yes" or "no" to a piece of legislation). Shouldn't someone who wants to be president be more willing to be on record with a decision? Shouldn't a lawmaker make laws? You say his greatest gift is to move people, but so far his only writing has been
    books about himself!

that was when he was a state legislator

mccain has missed more votes in every session of congress, he can't even show up to listen & learn. that's not the kind of president I want

    Elaenor,

With all due respect and at least a modicum of unearned deference, when the hell did it become the job of journalists (and I employ that term in the broadest possible sense) to devote the full compliment of their efforts to safeguarding the image of a presidential candidate. I understand the irrational exuberance of your cabal of secular sychophants upon first glimpsing the radiant salvific splendor of an unexpected and unanticipated Messiah, but you must remember you still have a day job. Couldn't you, Chris Matthews and your fellow worshippers gather on the weekends for extended restless leg syndrome rituals and still exercise your critical thinking skills during the work week?

Congrats on getting it right this time, Eleanaor. Your comment, "The Republicans are trying to write the narrative that Obama has no core beliefs, that he's a flip-flopper and we don't know what he stands for." hits it right on the head. Where you miss is in understanding that those are all true.

There exists a laundry list, created by BHO, of things we must not discuss about BHO. Therin lies the root of his downfall in November. America demands transparency of its government, and refuses to be silenced.

A leftist magazine shows the truth and all the obamabots with stiffies for him can't handle it..

    Eleanor,
It frightens me that the media is so obviously taking an active role in trying to help someone get elected, rather than serving as a neutral observer--our eyes and ears. And, according to you, Obama's chief qualifications are that, a) he moves people, and b) he moves the rest of the world. Holy God, what about POLICY? What about EXPERIENCE? What about PLANS FOR THE COUNTRY? He has no record of accomplishment, and now the digging is showing he is a calculating and shallow politician. If he had the same credentials, and was white, would he the nominee? Of course the answer is NO. He is the first Affirmative Action president. God help us.

Since when is the "ability to move people" the highest attribute we look for in our Presidents? Adolph Hitler, among countless othere despots over the centuries, clearly possessed such a gift. That may be what you are looking for in our next leader, but I think I'll stick to evaluating the positions the candidates take as well as the character they have displayed over the years.

Where were the complaints by Eleanor Clift and her cohorts regarding the nasty depictions of President Bush? Oh sorry that's right, Republicans deserve that kind of treatment.. By the way Obama is a member of the United Church of Christ a demonination that is actually Unitarian and Unitarian is not Christian. I speak as a former UCC member.

There are many things that might have made this cartoon funny, how about the cartoon as a thought of some obvious bigots? Or not-- what if a prominent Jewish friend of McCain's such as Lieberman was portrayed as a Zionist Nazi along with all the usual Jewish hate crap thrown in-- would this be as funny as the Obama cartoon? I don't think so.

Yeah, I have to wonder how many Zioinists grace the editorial halls of the New Yorker, BTW. Perhaps they thought this was a good punch at Obama for not caring to lead us into a war against Iran on behalf of the mad-chicken Israeli state that we supply with nuclear and all other types of weapons.

  • Posted By: chefmhf @ 07/19/2008 10:21:33 AM

or perhaps when he puts his hand on the Qur'an.....

  • Posted By: susanlc @ 07/19/2008 10:19:15 AM

Exactly right, Ms. Clift. Thank you. And the next time you see Remnick, can you tell him one reader thinks he comes off like a supercilious and condescending fool on this one?

  • Posted By: Porkov @ 07/19/2008 10:08:36 AM

Eleanor, baby, so it's tasteful satire you want? A couple weeks after eulogizing George Carlin? Have I got a word or seven for you!
The only Eisenhower quote I remember is "Always take the job, but never yourself, seriously." I will never vote for a politician who lacks a sense of the absurd because there is no possible way he can represent me.

  • Posted By: holmantx @ 07/19/2008 10:08:19 AM

    The political cartoon was tasteless?

    So?

  • Posted By: cowen123456 @ 07/19/2008 9:44:07 AM

A host on msnbc yesterday recaping a New yorker magazine article recently by saying.."so underneath the platform of change and new, Obama really is a cold calculated politician's according to his history in chicago"....a guest began to bark and gave a look as though she was ready to scratch the man's eyes out. And folks...these are Obama supporters having a conversation. hmmmmmm interesting.

Angry Feminists or the oh so urbane arugalites? My bet is angry Hillary hopefuls thought a mean joke would be quite fun, the heritage of American feminism certainly includes racism and racist eugenics, see Margaret Sanger, heroine of Gloria Steinham. But it may just have been a continuation of the urbanite disdain for us men who still work with our hands, pray, hunt and are indeed suspicious and a bit bitter about the Po-Mo mojo and pc hatred that runs rampant in our children's schools and our local governments and our everyday lives. Yes, New Yorker, too smart by a half. Serves them right; and of course it will stick. Because we " red neck bubbas" are not as stupid as they think.
