Per haps this is so attractive just because of the juxtaposition of the clean cut missionary with the shirts off photos- Sort of "Before and After" and perhaps it is the "After" connotations that are disturbing to LDS believers. It is hard to raise children in this world and the LDS has a clearly stated set of values for home, modesty and privacy. You may find it old fashioned, but as a teen in the post sixties, my parents never had to worry when I was with my LDS friends.

The fact that the church isn't getting a penny of this guy's money has nothing to do with how unacceptable this is. It's the fact that he's going about trying to gain interest in the church in the wrong way. It's one thing to make light of how serious being a missionary is but it's a whole other issue that now he's trying to make a women's calendar. This guys just needs to stop. And I don't think this guy was excommunicated just for making this calendar. There has to be more serious underlying issues that aren't being put out there because quite frankly it's nobody's business except for the creator of this calendar.

I am a Mormon in Salt Lake City and I am disgusted that someone would do this. It's too bad that these people have to drop themselves down to the dross of the world. The whole idea is to be the best person you can be, not putting on your temple garments and missionary tag and then basically spitting upon what those stand for. How disappointing.

golly gee, are LDS not sexual people at all??? Are they not commanded to accept all the children that God would send them? Are they not human??? I don't see anything wrong with this. It is showing two sides of the coin. Yes, I am spiritual as well as a sexual human being. That's how we get the kids here. And THAT IS HOW GOD MADE US, IN HIS OWN IMAGE. I don't understand why they try to keep the lid on the sexuality issue, when they do have polygamy in the past, and have large families. Duh......

OH, ROFL LMAO!! OH, LOL!! OMG! OMFG! I live in Mormon country Arizona and this calendar is the most hilarious and strangely hot thing I've seen in forever. I'm buying a copy today. I think it's good for the church's image, as well.

The only problem I see here is that the photos of the mormon dudes were displayed along-side their mission photos. No matter what Hardy says, this is a blatant marketing ploy that, whether he likes it or not, whether he will admit it or not, associates the mormon church with this calendar to the point that some consumers might mistakenly believe that the church endorsed, or worse, released the calendar. Mormons without shirts wouldn't sell 10,000 calendars, but mormon missionaries without shirts? You betcha.

Oh, and Hardy probably wasn't excommicated for the calendar. More likely, it was for an openly flippant and defiant attitude to one of the teachings mormons hold most dear. To be a mormon, you gotta at least try to live the religion. No church appreciates having open dissentors to basic doctrines hanging around. I should know, I'm an excommunicated mormon.

Mr. hardy did not get excommunicated because he publishes a calendar. He was excommunicated because he no longer chose to practice his faith. He has an agenda, publishing the calendar is a promotion of his agenda, and it is most definitely NOT because he admires the church. He is mocking the church for his own benefit, and breaking the covenants that he made when he served a mission. Sadly, anyone that participates in or buys the calendars is doing the same. Mr Brady is a liar. He supports/admires some of the church practices, while mocking the practices & morals that he does not agree with.

I am a mormon if your on the mission you cant do such thin but if your not on the mission i think you can do all things that you wanna do except doing some wordly things... but POSSING AS A MODEL i dont think that IS BAD!!!

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints (the true name of the church). I also served a two year mission. The issue with this calendar is not sexuality. In my opinion the issue at stake is the sacredness of the missionary calling. Missionaries are respected in the church for their faith, devotion and discipline, not for their physical appearance. As far as the church's action in regards to this matter it is commandable.Any church would have reacted the same way. Just imagine if someone was to create a "beefcake calendar" of the Catholic church cardinals.

How do you consider us misguided? because we don't the same way you do.

Mr. Hardy is all about the marketting. He says he's doing community service and helping charities. In reality he is making money for himself and even more so; feeding his ego with his new found notoriety. The calendar may not be netting a great deal of personal profit but he is using the church and sexualization of one of it's roles to benefit himself. I was a member of the LDS church for many years and made a decision to end that. I would, as a non-member of this organziation, never do anything as disrespectful as Mr. Hardy.

Hey, if they don't have a problem with it, then why should we?? Put me in Mormon Muffins!!!

As a return missionary myself, I have no respect for the returned missionaries in the calendar! It shows that they have no respect for the covenants that they made in the Temple to go on their missions in the first place. I think that the missionaries should be disiplined as Mr. Hardy has, and the thought that Mr. Hardy is looking at doing one for the sister missionaries is atrocious! I am still amazed at how low people can go for fame and money. I would hate to be the charities that accept that 'dirty' money!!! The problem with Mr. Hardy's theory that he is only trying to do good for the church with the calendar is that the message he is sending is that the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints do not hold to their values...I for one do not want Mr. Hardy to represent me as a member or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints!!!!

I guess this fanatical religion does not believe in forgiveness just REVENGE!!!! LOL

    • Posted By: colestapp @ 07/19/2008 2:41:05 PM

this is not revenge. It is discipline for inappropriate behavior.
I find this apalling, as I would any other calender portraying a church group in a purely physicaly and somewhat sexual connotation

I think it's great that the church is doing more to encourage it's gay following with products targeted specifically homosexual males. Although...the term "missionary work" might mislead some potential customers.

al1366, We choose to live in the world but not of the world....So you go to war, which is of the world, have your members in political offices and "try" to run for Presidency and is FULLY supported by the religion.....so this is not part of the world???

sarajolee said "If he wanted to do a "Church calendar" stick to Temples or Church historical sites."

The church has their hand in everyone's pocket and lots of business ventures as well. Are you telling me that if they did do a "Church Calendar" that they wouldn't be sued on the spot from profiting on selling pictures of the churches with the "LDS" name on it? HAHAHA
