Although I don't think any of us would really give credence to the notion that Hardy published this calendar as some sort of "gift" to the LDS and its missions (read: it's about the money, honey...), are we to believe that these young men were forced to pose for these photos?

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I find that these calendars do not help the Church at all. We are a very modest people, and to have him "showing off" a man's body that just got done doing the Lord's work, is just right out wrong. As for him being excommunicated, he probably did a lot more than just not go to church and pay tithing. I have been one of those people that went inactive, and I wasn't excommunicated. The calendars could have been a small part of it, but I'm pretty sure that he probably committed some serious sins. If he wanted to do a "Church calendar" stick to Temples or Church historical sites.

I do have to modify my above statement, in that I can't speak to your churches' values- your church has been there when I really needed you so I don't want to speak out of line. As a gentile, I see this as a healthy expression, but I do truly respect your values of privacy, my ideas of modesty may be too forward for LDS beliefs. I hope people will try to understand the healthy loving LDS family teachings before they criticize you.

As a LDS (Mormon) member, I have no problem with people wanting to pose for calendars on their own time etc. but putting the two side by side is poor taste and judgement. Our missionaries should not be displayed as sex symbols. To "singingasong" the church does not "censor" us. We choose to live in the world but not of the world. Big difference their. God gave every human being that has lived and will live "FREE AGENCY" nothing controls us but ourselves.

"And, anyway, excommunication doesn't mean "shunning". But from what he's told the media, he's already cut his ties to the Church. So why's he making noise about this excommunication business. It's just recognizing a fact."

I am LDS, and when my brother was excommunicated, I was a little worried how people would treat him. But the whole congregation treated him with such love and compassion--it was a beautiful example o flove and forgiveness.

Though I am not a member, the LDS church has been very good to me and I have the utmost respect for them- I think this is a GOOD thing, a good way to let the younger members be part of the world at large- I don't find it salacious or disrespectful at all. I think it rides the good line between healthy sexuality and the church, without compromising LDS values.

Funny as it may sound, I spent half my childhood with the LDS faith and even converted my parents all because of a few hot missionaries that were at a friends house. I will not divulge his name but, he was very handsome. My mother became the missionary mom so they were around all the time. I was so boy crazy, I didn't mind joining a religion without knowing enough about it. Years later, I realized that the beliefs were not for me, but I had a great time. I spent a lot of time with individuals from the church and was blessed to meet and get to know some wonderful people. It would have never happened without the initial greeting from elder *****.

What you do with your own body is your business. If they were nude then someone might have something to say. They are not denouncing their faith just showing they are humans and not religeous ROBOTS. As far as doing women, they are equal in everyone eyes and same rules apply. Not going to church or tithing does not make you non-believers because you choose to keep religion in your OWN house and not paying rent on a second one.

10,000*15=$150,000.00. What gets me is "with some proceeds being donated to the charity of each model's choice", They so-called hot, young, cute, sexy, muscular, goodlooking men didn't create a calendar for religious purposes, it was to make money.

As a mother who has a son preparing to go on a mission I don't want someone to approach him beacuse they are thinking of him in a sexual way...We believe that these young men pray to be guided to those who are pure in heart who seeking after truth, not AFTER FLESH... I t is a huge sacrifice forthese young men to give up two years of their lives for The Lord, and for their families who give them up to the Lord as well to have to have them worry about the way they look under thier clothes!!!!! The young man who wa excommunicated it has alot more to do with these calendars he truly is exposing the church in a light unfavorable to the majority of members and our missionary sons.

Hardy's stated motives don't sound sincere. He knows well that the "Mormon Missionary" brand is perhaps the most familiar for most people. Still, we don't know what was the reason for his excommunication. And, anyway, excommunication doesn't mean "shunning". But from what he's told the media, he's already cut his ties to the Church. So why's he making noise about this excommunication business. It's just recognizing a fact.

He's going to sell a lot of calenders now.

Church leadership are not likely to tell anyone why this person was excommunicated. So he is bascially free to say whatever he wants. I personally think that the deliberate sexual objectification of a person who is a servant of God, whatever the religious offiliation, is extremely offensive.

  • Posted By: b42d @ 07/19/2008 1:57:05 PM

I think the deliberate sexual objectification of a holy person, whatever their religious offiliation, is in poor taste. I think the fellow got what he deserved.
