My Grandmother was a wise old Methodist who used to tell me," If it looks like a lemon, smells like a lemon, tastes like a lemon all the sugar in the world won't change the fact that it's a lemon." My opinion is that it doesn't matter what religion these people are. When you listen to the Hardy guy all you hear is someone after fame and fortune hiding in noble nonsense. The young men have been fooled by a self promoting con man. The thing is by all accounts by everyone that has commented about this thing, the calendar is "soft porn" . The article touches on that, no question about it. So as my Grandmother said, all the bull**** in the world isn't going to make it something other than what it is. Face it, it's soft PORN!
If that floats your boat fine. But quit insulting those of us that can see through Mr. Hardy's B.S. I feel sorry for the young guys. They are a part of this maverick's plan to shake things up and renew the world's view of the church. Well you know what, so far from the feed back I've personally heard around here, the only this people are saying is,"There really is a sucker born every minute. Poor boys, they worked so hard for two years only to undo everything in the camera flash."

Suzy, come on really, soft porn? I feel sorry for your husband. There is absolutely nothing wrong with those pictures. There is no reason to be ashamed of the human body. You must be what they call a "prude"

What is the difference between this and Dancing With The Star's Julianna Hough doing a swimsuit shot? That swim suit she was in was not at all conservative and she claims to stick pretty close to those LDS roots.

    • Posted By: inthemiddleoftheroad @ 07/19/2008 5:09:39 PM

Uh duh! She didn't post her mission photo to the side of it and advertise it as and LDS swimsuit pic. She was simply Julianna Hough doing a swimsuit shot.

LDS members do go swimming right? Yes, they do. I've been around them my whole life. I am 34! So that being said, they are exposed in their swim trunks or swimsuits. Are they selling themselves, wearing those horrific peices of material that expose the evil body? This is so pathetic, you wonder why suicide is high in LDS teenagers? It is because the church teaches the young to be ashamed of actually going through normal teenage stuff (including sexuality). Almost all my friends grew up very LDS in the LDS state. And you know what, most drank... smoked and had sex. They have all had divorces and are probably considered such failures to their parents. (because the church is appalled of the parents not being able to control their child). I used to go to church, with my friends and I will always remember in the classes, the teachers telling the kids not to hang around non mormons. Ya, with me sitting there smelling like smoke from my family. I never did drugs, alcohol and or sex, but most of my friends did. But of course I was the bad influence. The church needs to quit punishing people for such idiotic things. I gaurentee that most of the ones..that preach, have done more naughty things in their lifetime. They should know better. This calander is no big deal, I would assume the big deal is that some of the church officials actually admire the young boys in the pics.. Which makes it BIG deal to them.

Big Duck Fan 16:39, I'm sorry you don't like my posts, but no one is forcing you to read them. I don't know how the subject of the military got into this, but I guess I forgot how militaristic this culture is. Anyway, I think I'll thank my grandfather, my father, my uncles, my cousins, and my brother for joining the military -- although no one was trying to stifle my freedom of speech at the time. I know you'd like to though.........LOL
    bye bye, gotta go......

  • Posted By: thepatrician @ 07/19/2008 3:14:03 PM

it just goes toshow that fanatical religous sects can and will conitue to dictate what it moral and what is not. really what do you expect from a group that allow sects of the own base faith to have multi wife families?or think gay are sick,or people of color are now ok? how about you earn three dollars and you need to give the church a dollar( to fund the support of all these wounderful values)
i say hopfully if we ignor the mormons they may slowly lose there power and go away like there crazy founders

    • Posted By: yourface @ 07/19/2008 3:29:57 PM

hate to tell you but their not going anywhere, actually membership in the church continue to increase... much to my dismay....

      • Posted By: catscraps @ 07/19/2008 4:12:19 PM

But do you think it is increasing because new people are joining up every day, or because the lds church chooses to 'baptise' people into their faith without the consent or knowledge of the individual(s)?

        • Posted By: inthemiddleoftheroad @ 07/19/2008 5:02:01 PM

No one is ever baptized without their consent or knowledge. Even converts have to have permission from spouses, or children have to have permission from parents in order to be baptized. The last thing the church wants to do is break apart a family just to get someone baptized. As far as baptisms for the dead, the names have to be RELATIVES of the person that submits the names and there are rules about how long a person has so be dead, so as not to cause problems with family members. And just because someone is baptized into the church when they are dead DOES NOT mean the deceased has to accept it. It is an ordinance that has to be performed on earth, but you can choose to accept or not. If any other church wants to baptize me after I'm dead and gone, fine by me, but I will not choose to accept it. I have already been baptized and choose to live my life as best I can. But kudos to them for caring enough about my salvation to go to the effort. If anyone chooses not to believe the slander and untruths about any religion and focus on their own life, they will be better for it.

Why can't we all just get along? I have read most of these comments and find it a little rediculous that both sides (mormon or not) are arguing over things that have nothing to do with the calendar. One person said that the church does not control the actions of their members yet they are not allowed to pose for a calendar and polygamy, what does the calendar have to do with that? There are many religions out there for the billions of people who live in this world. I have learned a lot from my friend who is mormon (who I love dearly) and I personally decided that the LDS church is not for me but whose to say that another religion hasn't given me the happiness I deserve. The God I believe in does not favor one person over another because of their religion, don't you think God is someone who is forgiving and understanding and also knows that people are different and need to take different paths to get back to Him in heaven. For those of you who think their religion is the best and that others who practice other religions don't know any better, maybe you should take a good, hard look at your God and if you listen hard enough maybe you will hear Him tell you that everyone is important no matter what their religion and no matter what decisions we have made (minus serious criminal actions, maybe). Why don't we just show a little more respect for other people, that is what the world needs right now.

  • Posted By: kellib @ 07/19/2008 4:53:53 PM

Can I still buy the calendars? Wow! Are all the mormons born with their sacred undergarments, I think, NOT!! I know my ex-husband wasn't born with his on and either is anyone else!!

  • Posted By: sadiemetz @ 07/19/2008 4:49:25 PM

every religious group in this world thinks they are the only ones that know how to get to God.....how about we listen to God instead of a bunch of humans? Quit judging people......it only makes you look like the jerk!!

  • Posted By: John @ 07/19/2008 4:49:05 PM

I admire the LDS for maintaining standards of propriety. Our culture is rotting from sexual excess and exploitation. People have lost any sense of decency in their actions and attitudes. The producer of this calendar knew church standards and he chose to ignore them. He made his choice and he can have the consequence. The prouction does not promote anything but the opportunity to "cash in" on the LDS church and it's committed missionary program.

  • Posted By: Jubilee12 @ 07/19/2008 4:28:23 PM

Hey, tha8, could you stop spamming? And to you good mormons saying people are lying about your beliefs i.e. polygamy, I live in mormonville, I've seen with my eyes. The mormons up here may be different than you city mormons. In some of these towns the mormons literally control the town so needless to say they may act differently than in other regions. That said, I ain't hatin'! Especially not you, Mr. Oct.! Muy caliente!!

    • Posted By: tha8 @ 07/19/2008 4:47:02 PM

Jubilee12 - I am NOT a spammer and just because you don't like what I have to say doesn't mean I'm going to stop posting how I feel... There are other 'repeat postings' on here as well... Why don't you call them out, too??? LOL... Whiner... Cry baby... I'm sorry we don't all feel the same way you do OR the way you THINK we should!

The most obnoxious thing about the gentleman producing and selling these calendars is that he pretends to do it under the guise of "reaching out" and "building bridges." What he's really doing is exploiting a church known for chastity and morals (look up the definitions if you don't know what those words mean) and using the shock effect to make money. "We give proceeds to charity..." what a load. Don't try to cover up what you???re really doing by acting like you care about the image of the LDS church. .

    • Posted By: inthemiddleoftheroad @ 07/19/2008 4:17:22 PM

Exactly! He had no right to say, "Come and check out our church because we are sexy!" He knew it would cause problems when he did it and I think he was looking to cause problems. But, he can do whatever he wants. Thats the beauty of the first amendment and also our individual agency.

      • Posted By: jennhild1 @ 07/19/2008 4:43:20 PM

You said exactly what I was trying to voice from all of my own thoughts on this issue. If he had been attending church in the first place he would know he's not spreading the Lord's message through this calendar. Why does he think missionaries are dressed very nicely all of the time? If he really wanted to be a member of the church, which it seems like he really doesn't care if he hasn't been going to church for a number of years, then he could go through the repentance process needed. Just like "inthemiddleoftheroad" said, that is the beauty of our individual agency.

Comment: The LDS church may be "misunderstood" simply because they expect the whole world to accept the Book of Mormon in the same way the Bible is accepted. Unfortunately there is no supporting data to show that the Book of Mormon ever existed prior to Joseph Smith. In fact, Pre-Columbian history, culture, linguistics and technology which have been well documented are completely incompatible with the civilizations described in the Book of Mormon. Why should we, the secular world, that have spent hundreds of years researching the Bible from a historical and archaelogical perspective be expected to accept at face value a book that just popped up from Mr. Smith one day. No thanks. Need a bit more info here.

    • Posted By: inthemiddleoftheroad @ 07/19/2008 4:42:40 PM

They don't EXPECT the world to accept the Book of Mormon, they encourage you to read it and judge for yourself. What is wrong with that? There is also no scientific or historical data that proves that the Bible is true. Someone could have studied history and made it up. That is where faith comes in. People have faith that the Bible is true, so why can't Mormons have faith that the Book of Mormon is true? If you are so against something, you most likely don't understand it. I encourage you to stop degrading and start tolerating.

Are you frickin kidding me dude? I'm a Mormon and I think you're post is the most hilarious thing I've ever read. Adults dressing up in scary bloody costumes for church? If your Mormon friend told you that AIDS was God's way of punishing gays (totally absurd!), then why were you dumb enough to join? I'm sensing a few falsehoods in your posts, bro.

ohhh he's a Dean at some school.............I guess it's impossible for him to lie now. Having a few fancy degrees under your belt doesn't make you honest. If you want to know about a car ask the designer of the car, don't ask the person who couldn't afford it...................or who is selling a different car around the corner

Foolkiller (4:00 p.m.) I agree. I like the Buddhist philosophy; their religion is kindness, compassion, and nonviolence. No wars, no killing, no feeling superior to other religions and claiming a person is going to Hell if they don't accept their religion. They are tolerant towards other religions and don't send people out to convert anyone. They say to study the religion first, and if they like what they see and hear, then join if you want. No passing the collection plate around; if you want to donate money, you can, but there's no mandatory 10% tithe. I guess they don't believe anyone can buy their way into Heaven. I respect that. Christianity, Islam, and Judaism are all from the same origin, and I don't mean to sound critical but they seem to like war and killing. I am not a Buddhist, by the way and I don't speak for Buddhists. I was raised in the Episcopal church.
