This conflict began with Putin exiled the oligarchs; esp. Berezovsky- who then fled to England and joined the financial coterie he had been working with to exploit Russian assets while Russia was fumbling from communism to capitalism. Berezovsky and Putin have fought a secretive war through the press and spying/assasination ever since. The Berezovsky faction have successufly baited the Bush administration into reviving old-Cold-War tensions by needlessly placing ABM installations in Eastern Europe. Thanks to the international bankers, the US and Europe are again being dragged into conflict with Russia. It is no surprise that the media is encouraging this, and continuing to villanize Putin and Russia.

the ONLY reason for your so called poisonous relationship as you would like to portray it is because the US and it propaganda machinery is egging them on with bribes and false promises and outright deceptions to expand its empire. because it knows it's on the precipitouis decline so its trying to grab as much as possible to save its empire.

You don't mean Europe you mean European politicians. They have no room to maneuver. Years of supporting the ever more unpopular USA has undermined their credibility. A battle over American missiles in Europe will mark the beginning of their end. Perhaps the politicians will follow your the suicidal recommendations. The people of Europe will note. I suggest America looks for other allies.

There's some fresh meat in the Group of Eight this year: Italy, the UK, Russia, and Japan all have new heads of state. The thought of the new powerbrokers mingling with some of last year's returnees is making the blood rushing straight to our groins as we ponder: just how sexy is this 2008 G-8 summit gonna be? Let's get to oglin'!

What a double standard! You say "Britain explained it had no power to force its courts to comply [with Russia's extradition request]." But Russia is expected to violate its constitutional ban on extradition of its citizens. Why is it ok for Britain to be bound by its laws, but its expected that Russia ignore its constitution in order to "obey" a British request? Russia is not a colony of Great Britain. That's a 19th century mentality. Arrogant Brits!
