joe1022joe, I could not agree with you more. This is just another exceedingly boring, cliched article where the media gushes over Obama like a 13yr old infatuated over a celebrity. Or should I say a 5 yr old over Hannah Montana? Haha! Really though. Boring. Cliched. Overbearingly liberal. That's all you can expect from Newsweek, etc. anymore.

I am a Republican Mom of 3 , who supported Bush and have always been republican.
I have to say that is seems as is Bush, McCain and Maliki are moving towards Obama's position.
Obama, who has not been there as much as they have seems to have a better plan for Iraq and has been right that the focus should have been on Afghanistan which Bush and McCain are also now coming to.
Obama has earned my vote !!!.

Also notice that Bush has now decided that we now need to engage our enemies such as Iran which they started to do.
For once this Republican is going to cross party lines and vote for a Democrat, I may not agree with all the Democratic Positions but looking at the Economy, Iraq and the way both men have run their campaigns, Obama has certainly earned my vote. I also like the way the rest of the world is responding to us, our image has been so tarnised abroad, Obama has gone there with humility and a willingness to dialogue with people.
Let's us restore America's image and show that we are the true leaders of the world and vote the best choice-Barack Obama.
This republican from Georgia and her entire family will be doing so.

Yes... I agree. John McCain for President!

This is for Galasso : For starters, I can't believe you'd insult Fareed Zakaria, who is a very knowledgable and unbiased writer and interviewer. And you call Sen. Obama's trip a European vacation? (I suppose when McCain travels, it's a fact-finding mission, though, right? And didn't McCain tell him to go?)

And do you really think that those who support Senator Obama don't remember Kennedy's speech in Berlin? Or that we know nothing? You'd be surprised at how many of us do. And we aren't a bunch of dittoheads who don't know anything either, whether we're young or "older." You might be surprised at how many of us are well educated on the issues.

So you think that Europe is prosperous today and will not pay attention to Sen. Obama's ideas? Maybe you should take a trip there, because I don't see that at all. I have relatives in several countries and believe me, many families are hurting. LIke us, they are dealing with high energy and gas prices, etc. The only thing that is better there than here (despite what you may hear from Republicans) is the health care that they get. Wish we had it too.

If I'm willing to listen to Sen. McCain's speeches and ideas, why can't you really LISTEN to what Sen. Obama's. This man is not only smart, but he's a good strategist who can work together with people in a respectful way. Countries around the world are looking for that kind of thing. If Sen. Obama can't bring some consensus and turn things around, no one can. I don't want to rant on McCain because I'm angry at you, and I won't. But I do wish you'd try to keep an open mind too.

Spinner - I am not angry with you if you support Obama. And I don't get angry when people attack McCain. People hear what they want to hear in a campaign. Obama and McCain both touch nerves and push buttons on their audiences. I have listened to Obama and I believe that he is making up his policies while he slowly gets his act together as the election draws near. He has been way off the mark on the war and has modified his position several times since the Dem primary began. He is now attempting to claim credit for the troop withdrawal that has been on the table since the beginning of the surge. I don't support him because he is way too far to the left. His overall record, while confined to community activities and constituent services in Illinois, is vague and unremarkable. He has constantly been compared to John F. Kennedy who had a war record, 14 years as a Congressman and a Senate term before he went to Berlin. JFK also has some very hard decisions to make with regards to the Russians in East Germany. Kennedy was also a moderate Democrat and would almost be a conservative by today's standards. I don't know what you consider prosperous but the Euro is swallowing the dollar by the bushel at the exchange booths and Europe in 2008 is much - much - better off than the period after the 1960s and a lot better off today than Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. I sincerely hope things improve for your family.

so tired of the media attempting to build up this inadequate candidate while discounting the obvious choice of Mccain who embodies all the qualities which are needed as well as the necessary experience.

obama has tried so hard to portray himself as a jfk. even going so far as to try to recreate the Brandenburg gate scene. he relies on emotions and romantic imagery while constantly blowing with the wind when it comes to his policies. he is on a learn as you go program. what a joke!

Your blindness is ridiculous. Obamam is onr clever politician. Besides he reads and is informed and he is an accomplished writer. WHat does the GOP have to offer? A same old same old candidate with no vision, no fresh perspective, no enthusisam. McCain/McSame. He was a once upon a time maverick. No more!!!

First Read posted this under MCCAIN AD: BLAME OBAMA FOR GAS PRICES

"There is a debate in Congress on the potential benefits of off-shore drilling. Obama opposes expansion of off-shore drilling and the lifted federal moratorium on the practice. Most, including Republicans, however, agree that off-shore drilling would have no impact in the near-run on gas prices."

Did I miss something in this statement? They said the same thing in both paragraphs just adding the word However, to make it sound like Obama is the problem when it is McCain.

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 07/21/2008 11:43:10 AM

Such nonsense. Bush and Cheney are in bed with the oil industry. They, if anyone ,are partially to blame for this mess. The oil industry has ruled politics for the 35 years we have had this eneergy probalme, and nobody seems interested in solving it. The proposed off shore drilling is to appease the oil industry.

He used the term "incremental" and applied it to Obama. I was telling a co-worker the other day as society be a society of increments however I was thinking that it applied to the Conservative idea. To me increments are a stagnant way of thinking. We have had technology for ages and yet release it slowly to keep certain powers in power. Barack Obama is willing to push the stakes and turn this thought process into something different. We need to toss out this incremental idea of Conservatives and move forward with ingenuity. Forget the big car companies and lets change the car. Embrace new energy sources and stop with the same old politics of sticking to old ideas.

Conservative actions are no more. Change is a coming. Obama 08-16

John Mccain having another Semi-Senile, Senior Citizen Moment, He Confused the Iraqi-Pakistan, opposed to Iraqi-Afghanistan Border...

Another Missed an Blown Oppourtunity for Mccain, has become another You Tube Moment, in a growing list of Confused statements.

Keep in mind McCain has not visited Afghanistan in 2 Years and his Main point of opposition is that Obama has Not been in Iraq since 2006....What a twist of Fate, what a Twist of Kharma.

When asked if McCain agreed with Obama's assessment, McCain said, "I think it's serious."

But he said troops would be available for Afghanistan "as we succeed in Iraq and come home in victory and honor."

Notice: How McCain is Stressing Victory & Honor, as though the Current Downsizing of Brigades Lack Honor.

Note: We are Downsizing in Iraq anyway, and the incoming General to replace General Patraeus, says that once everything Secure, there is no reason for us to stay in Iraq.

"You don't have to choose to lose in Iraq," McCain said. "If we had lost in Iraq, the complications in Afghanistan would have been enormously more difficult," he added.

McCain stumbled again over his geography while discussing the two war fronts. At one point he cited the problems with the "Iraq-Pakistan border."

Iraq and Pakistan do not share a border !!

McCain was apparently referring to the Afghan-Pakistan border. Taliban militants use the border area as a safe haven from which to attack U.S. troops.

    1. McCain tries to put down Obama, when his A$$ has Not Visited Afghanistan in 2 Years.

    2. McCain said that we should stay in Iraq, for as long as it takes, even it it means 100 or a 1000 years.

Mccain said, "We're still in Japan, Germany and France" as Examples of staying for Long lengths of time.

The 3 Countries named above, have enemeies all around them and they Choose to have us there, the KeyWord is Choose as in CHOICE.

US Brigades are Downsizing in Iraq as I Type.

President Bush is now using the Term "Time Horizons" Opposed to using Obama's "Time Frame or Timeline" of Withdrawal from Iraq.

Prime Minister Brown is Now in the Middle East and he's also downsizing Brigades in Iraq...

President Bush is now having Direct Diplomatic Discussions all of a Sudden with Iran and this all happened this Weekend....Hmmmmm

Bush is Now having Discussions with N. Korea, Bush's "Axis Of Evil"

All this Diplomacy, brought to you via Barack Obama.

McCain is Green with Envy, because Obama is going to be Well Recieved in these countries, on his upcoming Visits.

When it comes to foreign policy, there are few that I trust more than Mr. Zakaria. Those of you screaming "liberal bias" are fools! Mr. Zakaria was a member of the Party of the RIGHT at Yale. He has written books about how democracy isn't always right and should be brought about after political and economic stability. He is certainly no liberal idealist.

    MIDDLE EAST MINEFIELD FOR BARACK
By GINGER ADAMS OTISThe New York Post
    Posted: 4:26 am July 20, 2008
It's not going to be all rousing cheers and adoring accolades.
Barack Obama's diplomatic skills will get a real workout this week as he wraps up his congressional fact-finding in Iraq and Afghanistan. He next meets Israeli and Palestinian authorities who will have pointed questions about his policies toward Iran - and who likely haven't forgotten his recent remark about an "undivided" Jersualem, either.
Obama is traveling with a team of advisers and experts and will likely try to stick to prepared remarks to avoid any missteps.
But Israeli officials - with whom he's reportedly meeting on Tuesday - will press him to define his policies about nuclear power and Iran, experts said.
"The Israelis are going to have real questions about Iran, and about how he views taking out nuclear facilities there - if they haven't done it already themselves by the time [President] Bush leaves," said Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia's Center for Politics.
"He absolutely has to avoid any major gaffes that will haunt him to November."
Obama saw how quickly tensions can inflate after an off-the-cuff remark to Jewish supporters last month that Jerusalem should remain an "undivided capital" outraged many in the Muslim world.
Obama's camp quickly backpedaled and said the senator endorsed official US policy that Jerusalem was a "final-status issue" to be decided in negotiations.
But Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, who will reportedly sit down with Obama on Wednesday, was sharply critical of the comment.
"That topic will come up, on both sides. He'll get asked about it," said former State Department Mideast analyst Graeme Bannerman.
"He's got to remember he's speaking to Americans - he's in a campaign, after all - even if that means he has to say things that make the locals very nervous."

Obama gets his "training wheels" in foreign policy/national security. Are the American taxpayers being asked to foot the bill for this ONE week jaunt to earn his "training wheels"? With the cameras and reporters in tow, this thing is as shallow as Obama's experience is shallow. Oh well, we do have the Olympics to look forward to.

    • Posted By: Cloudosmoke @ 07/21/2008 11:23:45 AM

Actually he is not learning anything he already knows. He goes forth to listen and assess as he will need to make the most important decisions once he steps on the Oval Office carpet.

  • Posted By: Skypoint @ 07/21/2008 11:09:14 AM

"OBAMA 317 Electoral Votes McCain 221. The end is near mouth-breathers."

Wow! A real fortune teller! McCain should quickly forfiet to The Empty Suit! Would that make you happy?

American???s are beginning to tune in to this election and they are hoping for a better tomorrow where we change course and go down a new road that they can believe in. By going overseas Obama will pass the commander and chief threshold and will continue to make major gains state by state that may not be reflected in the national poll until sometime after the conventions. If McCain with all his experience doesn???t take any type a lead in any of the national polls after his convention then this race is about Bush & McCain. McCain thought by challenging Obama to go over to Iraq he was doing good politics but politics is like the game chess. If my calculations are right McCain is about to be checked!

Comment: Oh please, Obama doesn't have a clue, much less clarity when it comes to foreign affairs. He says what he thinks his audience at the time wants ot hear. The man is a sycophant, charlatan, totally naive, dangerous and a racist. His only vision of the world, is his candidacy and "The New Black Society" for America. He is perhaps the worst candidate in history. His audacity and hubris is more than most voters can stand. As so many have state, "he is an emporer with no clothes".

Why is it that every time someone writes the treuth or something positive about Obama the Obama critics call it biased? What about when McCain has gaffe after gaffe and the press don't even report it? Does it mean the press is all for mcCain? These are silly childish comments.

  • Posted By: mhopgood123 @ 07/21/2008 10:40:23 AM

Vewry interesting article . I think Obamam has more capacity than McCain to succeed in the foreign policy area. He doesn't see the world in black or white terms like Bush and McCain see it. He sees the complexities involved when dealing with foreign nations. I am convinced he would be a better commander than McCain. McCain due to his constant confused state and lack of political grasp would end up leaving a lot of policy issues in the hands of his advisors and that indeed is very dangerous.

The "nettering nay boobs" have spoken! "Lov4America", NativeNewYorker", etc, all have it out for the brotha' Obama!!! To your credit I don't think I hear racism in your voices (get used to the race card getting played because it's the river card), just ignorance...Frankly, I could care less about what Obama can or can't do vis-a-vis in foriegn affairs, more important is what the next POTUS does at home...Let's talk briefly about the supposed experience occupyong the White House now...People subordinate to Bush (more likely Cheney, who is at the top of the list) havbe run America's image abroad into the ground...Does anyone doubt that this could be said under the three previous administrations of Clinton, Bush, and Reagan? No, America was the envied globally because we did not attack without reason soveriegn countries...And lest it be lost on you secondary to the loss of life (both American and Iraqi) is the amount of money being spent (something like $3,000,000,000 weekly) money that is not being used for health care or the developement of cheaper, cleaner, renewable fuel sources so that we can no longer be held hostage by the sheiks of Arabia...Obama will be the next president for the most obvious reason: America cannot afford to continue policing the world and must focus its energy and resources domestically...WBBJ!!!
