I hope all these people on here spewing hate are perfect in their lives. Im going to laugh when all these people like Victoryofthetruth are in line to meet St. Peter at the gates of Heaven and there is a gay paramedic (or some other good-doer) in line in front of them. I may not be gay, but Im goiing to laugh for hours and make fun of them because they wasted their whole lives being nosy and trying to push their beliefs on others...

The real problem is the rampant and random violence existing in the U.S.

People cannot tell the difference between real life and movies and TV anymore.

It is inappropriate to place all of the blame on Larry's sexuality and the way he presented it. Yes, there were obvious problems that the school neglected to deal with. Larry may have been harassing Brandon. Other students, including Brandon, were harassing Larry. It is clear that the school didn't handle either of those things in an appropriate way. However, I guarantee that if you take sexuality out of the mix, there would be none of this "well, it was a horrible thing, but it wouldn't have happened if he weren't openly gay and flaunting it" attitude. If a heterosexual boy was sexually harrassing a heterosexual girl and the child who was being harrassed killed her tormenter, NO ONE would be blaming the victim. All of Larry's behaviors that were cited in this article (telling people they dated and they broke up, asserting that they were "together", asking Brandon to be his valentine knowing that he would be embarrased and picked on) occurs on a daily basis to eigth graders all over the country. Because Larry was a gay boy doing these same things to another boy, Brandon had a justification to kill him. All of the sudden, it's the school's fault for encouraging Larry's behavior. If you're going to blame the school, blame them for not providing help for two children who obviously have had troubled lives. Blame them for not putting a stop to the teasing and harassment from both children. Blame them for not recognizing the potential for a hate crime. Do not blame them for supporting a child, his individuality, and his expression. Do not blame Larry King.

As a side note to the "gay people make a point to harass straight people" conversation, harassment can come from anywhere. You may have been harassed by a homosexual. You may have been harassed by a heterosexual. Harassment has much less to do with orientation than it has to do with the individual mindset and attitude. It is absolutely incorrect to stereotype homosexuals that way. If we're going to use personal experiences to base our own impressions of people of certain orientations, then I would say that all straight men like to harass homosexual women. I can't even count all the times a straight man has said to me, "Give me just one night, and I'll turn you straight." Yet, I don't stereotype straight men that way. To claim that all homosexuals are more likely to harass hetereosexuals says more about you than it does about the homosexual population.

While I despise violence unless it is truly necessary, why was this young man harassing 'Brandon', (if he really was) AND thinking it is ok to sexual harass without any reprecussions? No, Brandon should not have killed him, or even owned a weapon to do it with, but Larry should not have been sexually harassing Brandon. In the history of civilization, harassment usually ends with someone being hurt or killed if nothing is done about it. Larry may have been pushing his sexuality on another person and that person happened to have significant issues with it to the point of violence. Yes, Brandon should have taken this to the school administrators AND may have, but we don't know because they are not talking. How about we all decide what happened here AFTER the facts are known, instead of all the supposing and what if's that are shooting around?

I read the article and I'm so deeply troubled by this story. The whole issue is going to get a lot of attention as this story gets out, and I implore people to come to the table open-minded and objective. This boy had rights, as did his murderer. But the problem is clearly where to drawn the line between self-identity and where that identity impacts another person's life. Are we as a people so simple-minded, bigoted, that we aren't prepared to help our children cope with something adults even find troubling to go through? Larry was failed by his school, his parents, and the people of his community. No one was prepared to deal with these issues and it's a shame it will take his death to get things moving toward help for other boys and girls like Larry.

Homosexuality is not a choice. Not in my own case. I never sat down and decided to be attracted to the same sex, but I have accepted that that is who I am. Larry, I think, was too young to understand what being homosexual means for him, and for the people in his life. There should have been people there for him, to counsel him.

It is my hope that we can see some real, positive change come of this. We need to open up as people and accept others for who and what they are. They deserve at least that much from all of us.

It amazes me the ignorance in a lot of the comments I am reading regarding this article. No one deserves to die for any reason! Wake up America! Your beliefs are just that...yours! Why do we want to inflict our beliefs on others with such hatred and vengance? If you don't like to see 2 men kissing...don't watch! If you don't like to see a white man and black woman holding hands...don't look. You have to let everyone live their life as they see fit. Even Jesus gave us the right to make a choice. Live your life and leave everyone else alone! If we listened to the religious right, women couldn't vote, interracial marriage would still be outlawed, slavery would still be legal.........STOP already!
