Recently I heard on a news program that only 2-3% of the population is gay or
lesbian. Someone must have their numbers mixed up. There is so much of this
going on that the numbers have to be wrong. It is shoved in our faces every
    where we look.
I have a gay nephew and a lesbian neighbor, she went to school with my kids.
I know their personal histroy. My nephew was a mama's boy. She had did drugs
before, during and after she had him. And so did his real father. Heavy drugs,
LSD, herion, ect. His mom died when he was 13 and his sister was 10. He was
always very jelious of his sister. I have to admit that my brother wasn't very
close to his stepson. But we, the rest of the family. Loved him as our own.We
all helped when his mom died. He was just lost.
The neighbor girl had two bad male relationships. Before she decided she was
a lesbian. Sometimes they make a choice.
It sounds like this boy needed some smart people in his life. He didn't have any.
Just some people with an agenda. Very sad.

I do not agree the boy should have been killed. But what Larry was doing to the other students was bulling them. THe kid held up his Gay Rights banner and got away with more than a straight student would. Imagine if Brandon started punching and pushing Larry around that you would say is wrong. Larry was going out of his way to harrass Brandon and other straight students. When I was in highschool, there was only 300 kids two of them were Gay, but not openly. No one cared, no one made fun, but then again these 2 boys did not dress up and go out of there way to harass straight boys. THe stupid teachers were more worried about being politically correct, than using common sense. What did you think was going to happen when a openly gay boy starts harrasing straight boys going through puberty. Like throwing gas on a fire. Now granted I went to Catholic school which is very strict but hell dressing up like a girl your telling me public schools say thats OK. God bless Larries soul he did not deserve to die.
Animus- you wank Muslims will not even let there woman pray most of the Muslim cultures treat women like dogs so what do you think they would do to gay children.

Everyone talks about gay right, what about the rights of heterosexuals? I have found through personal experience, that gay people are extremely intrusive and aggressive in pursuing desires, even when they are aware of the other person???s disinterest. Perhaps, there should be a law past to protect the rights of heterosexual people, which bars the unwanted the advancements of gays???some sort of an ???infringement law???.

The real guilt here has to be acknowledged by the liberal left. As much as they try to indoctrinate society into their "correct" view through TV programs and other liberal outlets, and as much as they have taken over the judiciary and its liberal agenda, society will not be pushed, forced, or tricked aka indoctrinated into accepting such "innocent, harmless people." It's pretty clear he had a lot of problems including homosexuality and it's time the left admitted it as a problem instead of continuing the "i'm ok, your ok" agenda. I repeat : you can't force society, you can't indoctrinate society to some things.

Okay, firstly you must accept that people are allowed to be who they are, just because someone is gay or bisexual doesn't mean they are "evil" as this person commented: "help solve this evil of Homosexuality"
    Solve it?
Solve what? Like you're going to get anywhere running around with posters saying "GAY IS EVIL" or something.

Do you really think that is going to change people?

Anyway, i think what that kid did to larry was awful, and i don't understand why most kids feel so strongly about homosexuality. It's not exactly doing much harm for them is it? All it is, is someone expressing that they like the same gender as what they are.

    There's nothing wrong with that.

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but do kids really need to cross dress while in school? Homosexuality is more accepted, but I think dress codes need to be adhered. Truthfully, the extreme makeup and stilletto's on either sex is totally outrageous and inappropriate for normal school attire.

There is a small group within the gay community ( why we are apart of the gay community i dont know but its home) that are called transgendered. To us its not dressing in drag nor is it cross dressing. Its being ourselves. It can be a thing of life or death as 50% of Transgendered teens attempt suicide thats not counting those who suceed. While i do believe that we should take into account the other students we do need to allow those who are this way ( and it has been scientifically proven as a birth defect read up on harry benjemin syndrom) to be themselves.

Sin is Sin, if your not Gay, then what are the other fifty things in your life that are sins. All sins are equal, except blasfamy of the HolySpirt. God said "Judge and you will be judged by the same standard. Whats type of idiot picks out a sin that he or she's not doing, and says the other person is bad, and is going to hell. If this is true , then the pointer is going to hell also, for the other sins that he or she, are doing. Remember all sins are equal.(stop Judging, Your not GOD) Remember this also (EVERYONE has fallen short of the Glory of GOD)Thats why Jesus Came and Died for ALLLLLLLLLLLL of our sins, and rose again on easter sunday.
The Bible says a lot of the things that we are doing is wrong, not just Homosexual activity. Look at you own life and see how many things that you are doing wrong according to the BIBLE. Also pray and ask for wisdom.

Children live what they learn. Homesexuality is a diffficulty and complex subject mater for adults much less for children. We do not have the right to inculcate our own belief on students. What the vice principle did was destructive and dangerous. Let chidlren be children and not worrry about sexuality, political or any other matters At such an age, they will have questions about life but let them experience life for themselves.and not sent on a life of degradation and death. May God rest Larry's soul.

How sad that a child died because of his sexually preference. Although I do not agree with what Brandon did but I sure he was under a lot of stress and peer pressure from his so called friends because of the fact Larry had a crush on him. This entire situation is very disturbing.

all of you people who hide behind these pages saying gays should be dead are the ones who should be dead !!! a kid died at the hands of another kid ! when are all of you hate-mongers gonna get a life & see that no one answers to you ! everyone has the right to be who they want to be in this country. those who perpetuate evil & hate are the ones who should be erradicated , then the world would be a better place

I believe that uniforms in school are a very good idea. It removes focus on who's wearing what. While our children are in scool they should be focused on getting an education and truly discovering who they want to be for the rest of their lives. There will always be time to discover sex later - when they are more mature. We have let the morals of this country slip further and further down. Maybe removing prayer from schools wasn't such a good idea after all.

  • Posted By: profmom @ 07/21/2008 7:42:40 AM

The focus of the article is almost exclusively on Larry. Brandon's life story is a brief footnote in the novel of Larry's troubled life. That in and of itself is revealing. The focus of blame should inherently be on the murderer, not the victim. The lessons we should draw and use for future teaching is not what did Larry do to cause his death, but what caused Brandon to snap beyond a normal reaction to unwanted attention? We should not be allowing excuses for murder unless they are in self defense, and shooting someone who is unarmed point blank in the head is most definitely not self defense.

Second, (they seem to point the blame toward Larry and offer sympathy to Brandon they use quotes from "observers" to claim that Larry was "stalking" and "sexually harassing" Brandon. However, nothing in the story really proved that. We would never consider it sexual harassment just because a straight person asked someone to be his or her Valentine. Even if that were unwanted, it wouldn't justify murder. Ultimately, IF they are going to draw that conclusion, then again, they have missed an opportunity to focus on the important lessons here: does sexual harassment constitute something different in middle school than at other ages? Because sexual identity isn't necessarily connected to sex, and gender is so tenuous at that time, maybe it's an important discussion we need to be having. NOT using this behavior to excuse murder.

Third, another claim that is made from observers but not countered in the article is that the Vice Principal had "gay agenda." I am particularly bothered by this line of the article. Why is it that because someone identifies themselves publicly as gay and is wlling to talk about her partner, she is considered to have a gay agenda? And exactly what is that agenda? They haven't defined it, nor have they indicated in any way what she supposedly did to encourage Larry. He was already a troubled and flamboyant kid; what is her crime here? If she really had added fuel to the fire, prove it.

Fourth, I lost count of how many times the article claimed that staff did everything they could to support Larry. That seems to be contradictory from the reports of "concerns." One told him to take his make up off. One said she was worried he would hurt himself in stilettos. That one made me giggle. I'll take this point back to #1. Why is the article focused on "we did everything we could for Larry" instead of "What the heck did the staff do for Brandon? He committed the crime? Larry may have been distracting and annoying, and they might not have liked his behavior, but he is not responsible for his death. The person who pulled the trigger is. Was anyone paying any attention to the other troubled kid? Because he was straight and acted normal, apparently no one needed to watch him.

this matter has nothing to do with homosexuality, both of these students had real problems according to the article. also, i love the way people create a parallel between this issue and gun control. what people fail to realize is that only people who follow the law will adhere to rules and laws with gun control , what we are left with is criminals with guns and people who follow the law helpless and vunerable!!

This is just sad. As a Christian Animus..You should know that there is only one judge and one jury and it's not you or anyone else on this earth. Let people live their lives as they WANT. It's not your decision to make. It's sad that a 14 year old was taught to HATE someone different from him. Larry didn't go over the top with anything, he was being himself. Unlike some folks who sends their representative out everyday, because they are afraid to be themselves. Kudos to you Larry for Loving YOU!

The American society is full of double standards. There is a right winged christian church that does not preach love and peace but hatred and war. At the same time the American sex industry is in full swing massproducing sex videos for world wide export.
In some states gay people can marry, in others there is a crime sleeping with someone of same sex.
In the USA the crime rate is among the higest in the world and death penalty still exists (one of the highest in the world - and that is in a democratic country). Death penalty does not have any impact on the crime rate and murders. And what is the solution to the high crime rate? To be able to buy, wear and use (read shoot) weapon.
How can a 10 year old guy have a gun and use it? How can all the massmuders happen in American schools? Because it is easy to grab a gun and use it.
And when bigotry, hatred and prejudices result in a murder of a gay young guy, the double standard is clear and obvious.
It is so tragic to see this happen in a country which says to be the democratic frontrunner.
    But is it?
How can a constitutional state hold people in prison for 8 years without a fair trial in Guantanamo?

How can any of you condone someone being murdered just because of their sexuality? That just sickens me!

For those of you who seem to hold religion as sacred and always passing judgement on others and condemning others you are the ones with a proplem. I am so tired of hearing the "Adam and Eve and not George and Steve" saying. Let me guess... you are a "Christian" but it is okay for you to "sin" just as long as you are not homosexual? It's also okay for you to engage in kinky sexual activity as well with your partner as long as you are hetero? Am I right? You need to really think about it.... why would a person chose to be gay? Why would someone want to be different? Why would someone want to be riduculed and struggle with their identity of being different? I have the answer for you, and it's because they don't choose to be gay. If you've ever know anyone who is homosexual you would know that most people "try" to be heterosexual and they've often wondered why they are "different". They know "society" doesn't approve. They are never fully happy or comfortable with themselves. Eventually, a person may choose to "come out" and be honest with themselves, friends, and family about their sexuality. You can't help who you are attracted to. Just think about who you are attracted to and what types of people whether it be ethnicity, hair color, their build, etc. I personally do not find Asian men physically attractive and if someone told me that if I did date one I would then find them attractive I would tell them that they are ridiculous to think that. Why would that change my mind? So why would it be any different if someone is heterosexual? Everyone needs to remember that a person is not defined by who they prefer in their bedroom or what they do in the bedroom for that matter. You are defined by what you do with your life and hopefully make a positive impact in your short time here on this Earth. That is what matters the most!
