A number of situations should have been addressed by the school principal and assistant principals. One sexual harrassment is a crime. Brandon was definitely harrassed to the point of humiliation and embarrassment with his peers. Larry should have had counselling about his sexuallity. That he can not go around making comments to other boys that might find his comments offensive. A lawsuit could have been filed on that aspect alone. Second, the entire school needed to be counselled not to make inappropriate comments to Larry which could have been another lawsuit offending Larry. I feel the school has failed both students involved. That the appropriate action was not taken. Most schools do have a dress code that deals with dress and make-up and obviously both were abused. Brandon is responsible for shooting Larry but the school let this matter get completely out of hand. The school allowed Larry to disrupt the campus and Epsteins relationship with this young boy Larry should have been supervised because of the seriousnous involving young minor kids. No adult should counsel a young boy or girl without another adult monitoring the visits.

I do not believe in violence, but I do not believe in gay marriages either. If God wanted two men or two women together; he would have made Adam and Steve, not Adam and Eve. The Bible clearly states that it is wrong, but so is murder. Our country is too accepting about things even if it's wrong or immoral. It is not my right to condemn anyone, but it is my right to not accept things that are wrong. We have too much freeddom in America without in consequences of our actions. We need to start believing in what God says and not what people say. How wonderful this world would be if we all just lived by God's word and not our own.

presley68: Not everyone believes in God. And when you say "the bible clearly states that it is wrong", you should be saying that "many Christians interpret what the bible says"! If God doesn't judge then why would it state that homosexuality is wrong? Doesn't God forgive and except all? Why don't you? Would you turn your child away if they told you they were gay? Would you insist that they change how they feel? You are a hypocrite like so many other who preach the work of God.

Ok ok tell me how is that Homosexuality is not Perverted?
    Just expaine that ok.
Even the animals who have brains the size of a pea have that one figured out.

    • Posted By: TLeah @ 07/21/2008 1:14:16 AM

Actually there are many animals of varying brain sizes that not only participate in homosexual sex within their species, but also monogamous homosexual relationships. You should do some research before making your ignorant comments.

As I read this article it occurs to me that this story is far more about harrasment between two boys than about being gay. I think Larry was using the one thing he had learned got a reaction out of people, and the school let it get wayyyy too out of hand. Allowing a child to express themselves is fine, but they also need to be taught about appropriate behavior for the situation. I dont think any child, boy or girl, should be allowed to wear stilletto heals to school or innappropriate makeup. Why were things allowed to get so far out of hand here? This child payed with his life for this communiti

Put it back in the mental disorder books because it is a disorder.
The real problem is not Larry or Brandon it is you people who promote Homosexuality as a life style.

    • Posted By: ashley_s @ 07/21/2008 1:12:20 AM

I'm sorry, that was very closed minded of you. Homosexuality is NOT a mental disorder. I'm sure you have gay, bisexual or lesbian friends that are too afraid to tell you anything about it because you act like such a homophobic ass when it comes to this topic. Have you ever heard the phrase "If you cant say anything nice, don't say anything at all"? Saying that is like saying religion is a disease. I know that you are entitled to your opinion, but I'm very sure that Larry's family and friends do not want to see something like this posted about the preferences of a 15 year old. Grow up.

I'm sorry, but being gay is NOT a mental disorder. That was very closed minded of you, it's like saying 'oh this person is Christian' just because you believe such a thing. Certainly you must have gay, bisexual or lesbian friends that are too afraid to tell you just because you act like a homophobic ass when it comes to such topics.

Saying children that they "know" their sexual identity as young as in third grade is, excuse me, but pure Politically correct B*ll Sh*t!! There are so many hormones "zinging" about by Jr. High, that kids can go most any direction in experimenting sexually. Has our society lost its compass completely on what is actually "age appropriate"??? Even if poor Larry wanted to dress like a girl....since when are young ladies in Jr. High allowed to wear HIGH HEELS to school. And paint their faces??? And WHY are there no dress codes in schools any more??? I am sick at heart that Larry is dead, and his murderer's life is also destroyed....all because our society is obsessed with the "necessity" of allowing sexual expression!!!

It's a sad testimony of the fall of the family. Men have been emasculated from their historical roles. The woman goes out into the workplace. Latchkey kids are the norm. With no clear father or mother figure, how would anyone not expect gender identity confusion; chemical imbalances in children of drug users; attention deficit disorder; autism/late speakers; and tremendous rises in teenage pregnancies, homicides/hate crimes, and suicides. And oh yeah, keep taking God and prayer out of schools (together with children being taught that they're essentially nothing but animals). Brilliant.

What do you expect? Homosexuality has been and is being shoved down the throt of America, and has been for the last 20 yrs. All you have to go is sit back and think yo see this statement holds credance. As a man in America, a man of interacial background, have noticed for years that homosexuality has really been pushed more towards the black man, For example, when I first noticed it was the series of "Nerd" pictures, the only prominant black figure (nerd) in all the pictures, was gay. Skip to Tv, "Designing women", the male characture, Black and feminine, in the end they tried to make it appear as if he was straight, but very feminine, 'Spin city", the only black male charature, Gay. Even a tough cop show like "The shield", the first time I turn on and watch the show I see the main black male figure is passionally kissing a man, since then they the writers/producers have had him change his was, begrudingly, I could go on and on with this, but won't, I'll make my point.
There is no answer for senceless murder, butmany of us hetero men are tired of having it thrown in our face continously.Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. It is a slow deteration of the human race, Two of the same cannot produce, Yes hear the term gay bashing, there are organizationsto protect and celebrate gay rights, and you have to even watch what you say or you may offend., but most gay i have run acros, wether conservative or "flaming", as to say, can get away with sat almost anything and people think it's cute or hilarious. Well many of us hetero, male and female do not find it to be so. Do we as heteros have to form our own protective rights organizations? I have seriously considered starting a organization called "The Straight Rights Organizion ".
No cute name, just to the point of protection of our rights as heteros. To put it bluntly, not everyone want to know about everyone elses' sexuality. If I was you in my life and my life style I will keep it between you and I personally
I believe God has a plan for this one of many worlds and for each and every man and woman, but I feel tjis is not part of the plan,, And the statement Homophobic is succh a joke, a phobia is something you fear. Most guys I know laugh when somebody calls us homophobic, Gays are not scarey

It's amazing how people feel so differently about this issue. However, whether or not you believe in Jesus and sin, we all one day have to give an account for our actions on this earth. One day we will face God and to those of you who choose not to believe in salvation well, when God says depart from me I knew you not, don't start crying! Furthermore, we have all been given freedom of choice. Unfortunately many of us, even christians, make wrong choices which affect our lives. Larry decided to taunt others with his belief of sexual orientation. I wonder where he will spend eternity? Only God knew his heart. Sometimes God allows certain events to happen so that He can do a good work in someone's life. I pray that the shooter would repent and come to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour. To Larry's family, I pray that the Holy Spirit would comfort them and the family of the shooter. Love and forgiveness. That's what we lack in this world.

Sexuality should never be a flaunted aspect of one's life. Most straight men and women I know rarely wear clothing, dress in a manner, or or act overtly masculine or feminine in a way that specifically matches their sexual orientation; however, correct assumptions could be made with little effort based on current stereotyping. The article said the boy was "chasing boys around" and "telling boys 'you're hot' ". You can't do that. Not in school, not at work, not in the service-nowhere. The boy was lucky he lasted as long as he did. Live and learn people.

i support this child's courage to come out at such a young age. BUT...BUT i feel the adults totally misguided this child. he was told to be proud and that nobody should have a problem w/ it. he should have been informed that not everyone has the same beliefs as he did. does anyone think about how that other poor boy that sot him was going through? once the gay teen told everybody he liked that boy, i'm postive everyone must have made terrible fun of the boy that the gay child admired. being so young and w/ all that prresure pushed him to make a deadly mistake. the adults in these children's lives should have better educated the gay boy about his sexuality,he just doesn't come out AND SAY OH I LIKE SO AND SO. HE CAME TO TERMS WITH THE CONCEQUENCES OF BEING TEASED BUT PERHAPS THE OTHER BOY THAT SHOT HIM, IT WAS SIMPLY TO MUCH FOR HIM AND HE SHOULD HAVE NEVER AD HAD THAT BURDEN. I FEEL THE ADULTS PLAYED A BIG PART GIVING THE GAY BOY WRONG ADVICE, THEY WERE TRYING TO BE POLITICALLY CORRECT IN AN INCORRECT WORLD.

Yes, I agree with you and that is why children, who are retarded, or sexually perverted should not be placed in schools along side normal kids. they should be placed in special schools where there are other nuts like them, and then everyone is happy. Homosexuality is, was, and always will be a mental illness. It should be tolerated at best, but NEVER given the same respect, and privileges as heterosexual couples naturally enjoy.

trenton there is no verse in the bible that says jesus accepted homosexuals as a matter of fact he said that homosexuals will not enter the gates of heaven in. it says this in Romans 1:27.

I am a 24 year old female living in an extremely small town in Texas. I read this story and it really caught my attention. People want to say that Larry stalked Brandon to the point of violence, or that Brandon was mean to Larry. I truely believe that someone at that age may possibly have gay feelings or homosexual tendencies, but for the teachers to blame another because of her sexual orientation is wrong. Straight women teachers counsel young girls all the time about boys and sexual content because they can relate and the teachers are obligated to, but yet for another to relate in a very similar way, just for a different sexual orientation is wrong is beyond me! Was she just supposed to brush him off and leave it up to someone else? And if she did, who would he turn to? If Larry did harass Brandon, it shouldn't have gotten to the point of death!! Brandon knowingly made a statement and planned to kill him. He then came back to school with a gun and shot a 15 year old boy. I believe he should be tried as an adult. He made a very adult decision and ended another human beings life because a gay boy liked him. This boy may not have even really been gay, just outspoken and hungry for attention, but yet he died at another school mates hands. I pray for those who hold such hate in their hearts

    • Posted By: Epitomice03 @ 07/21/2008 1:06:58 AM

i agree he most def. should be tried as an adult. He intentionally and knowingly knew he was going to cause seriou and permenant bodily injury to that young boy, Larry. That in itself is a felony with criminal intent to cause seriously bodily injur to another. And unless further evidence is published he needs to be tried as an adult wiht the maximum sentence imposed. He showed no mercy in his decision to kill. Did it at point blank range and walked away. He knew what he was doing and he was at a mature state of mind when he decided to do it. By fooling his teacher that he was doing work that he was not and keeping a constant eye on his target!!! Please let this family have TRUE JUSTICE and punish this child to the full extent of the law! No deals no nothing but the ultimate debt to society. Since he decided to take the breath and life away from another.. the ultimate price one can pay for simply being themselves.

I have no idea where people come off with the idea that it was ok for this kid to kill his classmate because he was gay. "he had to respond with physical force". If ignorance was gun we would have blown ourselves away a long time ago. In this respect I feel that the school did let down both students, teachers are too afraid to get their hands wet with this, and it has cost lives, not only the victim but the shooter as well, One will never come back, and the other will never be the same again. Why is it that it takes a death for people to realize that ignoring the problem will not make it go away. We lose too many good people beccause people fail to act, and it becomes very tiring to see this in life. I'm 20, I came out when I was 16, it was one of the hardest things to do, and at my school I had some of the best teachers who were always there when I needed them, Their are always to few of these teachers around to help those who really need it. People want to hate the shooter and it comes naturally to those who feel for the victim as I do. But hating the shooter will not do any of as any good, it will only divide us more. This is the point where we need to come togther now more than ever. Since the people are coming out at such a younger age, more education is needed so that a tragedy like this can be avoided. Hate cannot be the strength that people use to get throught his it will only make things worse. how long will balme be pushed around before we realize that we all need to start treating each other like humans beings. Equality should never have to be earned, it should just exist without question, just like Larry should still be here without question.

Dear BRIGHT, would we really be from the "planet extinct" if we accepted "gayness". This world is overpopulated anyway...if there are some couples out there who aren't able to make babies and only adopt...all for the better! You might want to change your screenname. My first college roommate was a lesbian and came on to me...was it okay for me to KILL HER!! Of course not...she was a nice person. Put your crazy ideologies aside and think about the souls that were involved in this murder. Brandon killed Larry because he came on to him...that's it...Brandon should go to jail forever because he obviously isn't rational. I don't kill people becauses they come on to me.

    • Posted By: onepoker @ 07/21/2008 1:06:15 AM

Larry told people he was his ex boyfriend thats more than just comjing on to him. I don't believe Brandon should of killed him but this wasn't just a case of an innocent boy being murdered. It was a case of a boy creating a situation in which the other boy became so uncomfortable he felt the only way out was to kill him. Brandon was wrong but Larry instigated the situation.

  • Posted By: beanisXXXpenis @ 07/21/2008 1:05:32 AM

Okay, as a bisexual who has experienced plenty of taunting and teasing, I believe that Brandon needs to be punished. But locking him up for life is not the right solution. He deserves to do to prison though, that is for sure. I believe that the Gay Rights Community has all rights to remember Larry's death as another step for gay rights. Yes, I think that his death was tragic but at the same time, we learn from others mistakes and experiences. I resent the homophobes of the world, I kind of empathize with you but at the same time people you really need to open up your eyes and become more open-minded. I really wish that I had a gay person in my life to help me through coming out and everything. As far as what Ms. Epstein said to Larry, I personally believe that should stay with them forever. I seriously doubt that she said anything about trying to encourage him to flaunt his sexuality and taunt other boys, I think she gave him advice. Maybe that he should be open, and proud of his sexuality, because obviously she was open enough to have a picture of her partner on her desk. Larry King's death teaches me a few things: I should never try to hide my sexuality, at all, no matter what anyone says to me and it also teaches me that there I need to be there for my gay friends or any other gay person who needs someone to talk to.

    RIP Larry.
    much love babe

btw. i totally agree with everything that gaynusa you dont choose to be gay, its the way you feel, youre born with it. you cant help it

I believe that there are many opinions. That doesn't make any certain one right or wrong. Yes being gay isn't a choice, but you should learn also that at a young age such as the boy who was murdered, that life isn't a game to then just go on ignoring the fact that sexual discrimination doesn't exist. NO murdering people is definatly not right, it is more wrong than almost anything I can think of. It should have never got that far with either Larry or the other boy. However it shouldn't have gotten so far that the teacher didn't notice a student pulling out a handgun and killing someone. Yes understandably you can't watch your kids twenty-four/seven, but there is a big difference in a parent not paying attention and while doing so a child colors on the wall, than a teacher in charge of all the students in his/or/her classroom and that person pulling out a gun. A teacher should be more careful with them for the simple fact that they aren't his/or/her kids. More to the point, how in the world did a child get a gun, I think the parents should have to answer this. Also how in the world did a child get in the school with this gun?
