Every one is so afraid of being sued for one thing or another that they let the children do what ever they want. This issue, being gay in school, should not even be discussed. This is a topic for the child, as hard as it may be, to discuss with his parents. The school systems are going down, allowing this openess about being gay, supporting abortion, and at the same time giving birth control. They should have never taken prayer out of schools. It's a wonder our kids have any stability.

Prayer isn't going to stop kids from having sex, lady. It's also not going to make a child want to be straight either. And people who support abortion don't need prayers either, they need help to deal with such a difficult decision.

learned trait or not...this death is sad reality about how mcuh violence our kids face everyday......IFOREPLAY..... where does it say in the bible does it say we shall find our own truth....i am sure that God didnt lay out guide lines for our lives so that we could change them to suit our sinful ways

I think a lot of folks are missing the point... The bottom line of this story is that a CHILD was SHOT AND KILLED in SCHOOL for what he said to another student. Regardless of what you think about gay people or the "homosexual agenda" or whether or not sexuality belongs in schools, you should be horrified. ALL out children should be safe in school. It's the responsibility of teacher, administrators and parents to make sure that they can express themselves, learn, share, and grow, SAFELY.

Again, a kid, a child, a student, is dead. No amount of worrying about his sexuality is going to fix that. And another child, hardly able to make his own decisions, has to live out the rest of his life, knowing he took the life of another. There's tragedy here, but it has little to do with sexuality.

Ps megan416, I'm gay. I do know the difference in all the groups you mentioned. I think you missed the point and perhaps you could do with a class on reading comprehension?

You have got to be kidding me, right?! The school systems are inticing kids to explore "different lifestyles" and then comes the shock and awe of the events to follow. Denial, desertion of our youth is so criminal.
Isn't anyone responsible for their actions? Smart people seem to running the programs that sacrifice our children, yet darkness abounds. Det,dee, dee

Schools are not for sexual expression. Schools are for learning. If you want to teach a kid sex, do it outside the classroom.

Same old liberal spin on how gays are treated so badly in America! My heart just bleeds for these liberal morons who use the laws of the state to try to and advance their agenda while screaming discrimination! Bullying people who disagree with their perversions and hoping they will get assaulted so they can sue anyone and everyone to make a point!

Megan416- I'm sure you are very proud of your TS son. Are you lesbian by chance? GEEZ!!!

    • Posted By: JoanP @ 07/20/2008 11:18:30 PM

School is not for sexual expression of any sort. It is a place of learning and should be treated as such. Schools and sex, like oil and water do not mix.

  • Posted By: paulie45y @ 07/20/2008 11:17:36 PM

wow... i didnt think people really sincerly thought like that...i thought maybe the "liberal media" did make it a bigger deal, seeing as i dont know anyone who is violently against someone being gay. Then the very comments you made to prove your point actual wound up proving theres. You people are cruel a 15 year old dies and your here on your high horses talking about previrsion and hoping more people die... seriously? so yeah there is a problem someone took the time to make a cold hearted comment on here and your the reason these stories exsist. Gay people have been around since before biblical times... so get over it already and start worrying about some real issues and you and your kids wont be killers, and these stories will no longer plague you.

I was born in Laramie, Wyoming, where the beating death of one young gay man made national headlines. I don't beleive the garbage about a "Gay Agenda". No one would willingly put himself or herself in a position of being a target for abuse, although many would go out of their way to abuse someone who is different.

Yet another liberal spin story on how badly gays are treated in this country. California is the home of the most liberal and absurd laws protecting eveything from Spotted Owls to politically correct thoughts. Kill a tree...Go to prison! I am ashamed to admit that I was born in California! God help us!

    • Posted By: jayerowe @ 07/20/2008 10:58:29 PM

same old rhetoric crap about how the gays are SO protected and shouldn't be. read deeper into the story - this is about murder and bullying, not protecting the gays.

i'm sure california is just as happy that you are from there as you are

Dallas Teacher.....It's teachers like you who need to become better educated! This child wasn't gay, he was transgender....or do you know the difference? If you can't deal with gay, lesbian, or transgender children, you need to find a new profession!

    • Posted By: jayerowe @ 07/20/2008 10:22:51 PM

wow, you just totally and completely missed the point of dallas teacher's post. the point was that there's no such thing as a 'homosexual agenda' and that this so-called indoctrination is NOT taught in schools. and that it's a complete embarassment to any educated citizen that people really believe that colleges are making people gay.

      • Posted By: megan416 @ 07/20/2008 10:34:28 PM

Like I said, become better educated! That's all I'm saying!

I agree with the Dallas Teacher. I'd like to add that our society fosters homophobia in numerous social institutions, as well as in the media. Why the surprise? GLBT people have been getting killed and still are at a global level. The laws are biased just as much as politicians- straight people who have friends or relatives that are GLBT need to come to our defense more so now than ever and demand change. Thanks.

I am a mother of a transgender. I found it VERY upsetting that his 1st grade teacher laughed it off! I am proud of my son, and I am dissapointed in our school district! It's not his fault he is transgender. Blame Me!! He can't help the way he is and I LOVE him, no matter what he is!

Just as Larry had his rights so did the other young man have the right not to be sexually harrassed by anyone. That is not what he went to school for. Unwanted sexual advances and attention are just that unwanted. Different people deal with it different ways. Tragically this young man may have felt that the only way he could protect himself from this harrassment was to take this other young man's life.

you need to reread what I said. I agreed and then added my additional opinion. But, thanks for the education.

Gay social experimenting on children is subtley done in our culture today. Kids are manipulated. Its a simple story but in mans wisdom you are lost. Consult God, Fear God, and live.

  • Posted By: rnbandrews @ 07/20/2008 6:12:06 PM

No kid can possibly know they are gay at 8 years old. NO WAY! Unless he was being molested, he wouldn't even have known what it meant to be homosexual OR heterosexual for that matter. No way.

    • Posted By: jayerowe @ 07/20/2008 10:17:08 PM

kids know their sexual identity from very young ages. check out the book "when i knew" - it is a book of stories written by gay people who talk about the moment they realized they were gay.

the saddest thing is the horrific grammar, spelling, etc. of the people who decide to comment on this board. does nobody know the difference between 'their' and 'they're'? my god people, learn how to write like an adult! no wonder people think americans are dumb and uneducated.

    • Posted By: tomwalker8 @ 07/20/2008 6:30:29 PM

The story's about a 15 year old. Details matter.

      • Posted By: Jenny222 @ 07/20/2008 8:15:27 PM

The story states that Larry realized he was gay in the 3rd grade (or about 8 years old).

  • Posted By: gilina_13 @ 07/20/2008 10:12:03 PM

thats so sad i have a gay cousin and hes awesome and i dont know what peoples problem is i think they are the ones with birth defects not the gay people

  • Posted By: megan416 @ 07/20/2008 10:12:01 PM

Dallas Teacher...You need to become better educated on Gays, Lesbians, and Transgender! If you can't deal, get out of your profession! People like you, screw these kids up! Do some research and deal!!

Gay people are born to hetero parents every day. The "GLB movement" is not brainwashing kids or adults into "becoming" gay...without organizations like the LGBT many children who are gay have no one to talk to. The suicide rate for teenagers is high, the rate for those that are gay are even higher--we need more organizations that help teenagers, especially LGBT teenagers, then maybe the suicide rate will decrease. To help the hate crime rate decrease people need to be more aware, more sensitive, and more compassionate (instead of so judgmental and ignorant).
