Remember this quote from Good Will Hunting? It's almost prophetic in hindsight:

Why shouldn't I work for the N.S.A.? That's a tough one, but I'll take a shot. Say I'm working at N.S.A. Somebody puts a code on my desk, something nobody else can break. Maybe I take a shot at it and maybe I break it. And I'm real happy with myself, 'cause I did my job well. But maybe that code was the location of some rebel army in North Africa or the Middle East. Once they have that location, they bomb the village where the rebels were hiding and fifteen hundred people I never met, never had no problem with, get killed. Now the politicians are sayin', "Oh, send in the Marines to secure the area" 'cause they don't give a s***. It won't be their kid over there, gettin' shot. Just like it wasn't them when their number got called, 'cause they were pullin' a tour in the National Guard. It'll be some kid from Southie takin' shrapnel in the a**. And he comes back to find that the plant he used to work at got exported to the country he just got back from. And the guy who put the shrapnel in his **s got his old job, 'cause he'll work for fifteen cents a day and no bathroom breaks. Meanwhile, he realizes the only reason he was over there in the first place was so we could install a government that would sell us oil at a good price. And, of course, the oil companies used the skirmish over there to scare up domestic oil prices. A cute little ancillary benefit for them, but it ain't helping my buddy at two-fifty a gallon. And they're takin' their sweet time bringin' the oil back, of course, and maybe even took the liberty of hiring an alcoholic skipper who likes to drink martinis and f***in' play slalom with the icebergs, and it ain't too long 'til he hits one, spills the oil and kills all the sea life in the North Atlantic. So now my buddy's out of work and he can't afford to drive, so he's got to walk to the f***in' job interviews, which sucks 'cause the shrapnel in his a** is givin' him chronic hemorrhoids. And meanwhile he's starvin', 'cause every time he tries to get a bite to eat, the only blue plate special they're servin' is North Atlantic scrod with Quaker State. So what did I think? I'm holdin' out for somethin' better. I figure f*** it, while I'm at it why not just shoot my buddy, take his job, give it to his sworn enemy, hike up gas prices, bomb a village, club a baby seal, hit the hash pipe and join the National Guard? I could be elected president.

-Fullfilled prophecy courtesy of Bush and Co.

i don't remember that quote, but damn thats spot on

    • Posted By: RIPRNC @ 07/24/2008 9:57:53 AM

OMG - That is scary. Only thing wrong is that gas prices are @ $4.50/gal, not $2.50...

  • Posted By: mramek @ 07/23/2008 8:50:46 PM

I don't think that this person(obama) is the President, yet he acts like he is and so doe's his followers( the whole media).Last time I checked Mr George W Bush was still occupying the Oval office, and if my memory serves me right I can still vote for my candidate of choice in November.I can assure you it will be for one who will not compromise the security of our great nation nor destroy the gift of life nor the freedom's our Forefathers fought so hard to obtain and write into our Constitution.

    • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 07/24/2008 9:13:27 AM

Obama does Not act as if he is the president now. He will do that starting on Jan 09.

      • Posted By: NO OOOOOOOOO @ 07/24/2008 9:54:44 AM

HAHAHAHA Pia...what planet are you living on???

        • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 07/24/2008 10:14:29 AM

Earth. You? Earth to NO OOOOOOO, where are you?

    • Posted By: nopartyaffiliation123 @ 07/23/2008 9:04:04 PM

And I can assure you that your candidate will lose by a landslide.

      • Posted By: citron16 @ 07/23/2008 10:08:37 PM

Will he loose or will he win? I guess we will all have to wait till November to find out the answer to that question!!!!

        • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 07/24/2008 9:21:11 AM

It's 'lose' citron, not 'loose.' 'Loose' means, loose shoestrings. You are right about Nov and it will be here before we know it.

      • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 07/23/2008 9:17:11 PM

        And I second that.

    • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 07/23/2008 9:19:40 PM

I don't think Obama acts as if he is the president. He can't help it if he is the more popular candidate.

      • Posted By: marksgershenson @ 07/24/2008 3:01:47 AM

Hi Pia, hang in there, and Hi to Harley...stay on message like you both are. You are both correct in what you are wrting. I will check in again next week and see what you two have been doing. BTW Harley, when is your child due back from Iraq? I thought I saw something you wrote either here or CNN on a posting. God bless our troops... :-)
        Mahalo to both,
        Mark

        • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 07/24/2008 9:07:52 AM

Hello Mark! What a lovely surprise, but we still need you here regularly! Thanks for checking up on us. Looking forward to your return. Mahalo to you too. 'See' ya.

      • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 07/23/2008 11:50:33 PM

Maybe you haven't seen the polls Pia, they are tied. The MSM just tries to make it look like Obama is more popular. He certainly is more entertaining, but do we want an entertainer as POTUS? I'd rather have a workaholic.

        • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 07/24/2008 8:59:12 AM

Pearson, O and M may be tied in the polls (which ones may these be, btw?) but Obama is the popular candidate. Even in Europe!

SCAM ARTIST ALERT. Obama and the Media (Newsweek is a classic example...just read these articles!) has been on a scam campaign for the ignorant people of America. Just like the CIA, Tennant, Rusfeld and Wolfowitz scammed Bush and Congress into going to Iraq, THIS campaign by the media is even slicker. Obama is a friend of black racists. This is being ignored by all media except the ethical outlets (few) and America is being SCAMMED. McCain, while not perfect, is one of the most honorable men in Washington...who fought against the system....his fellow Republicans....and others, while trying to make things better. But now...the media is pushing this con-man Obama. Are you that stupid?

    • Posted By: jnakhoul @ 07/24/2008 10:09:19 AM

The only people decieved into starting a war with Iraq was the american public. congress didn't even ratify a decleration of war! There was never a reason to start a war in Iraq if you believe otherwise then your just as idiotic as our president

    • Posted By: soundiata @ 07/24/2008 5:40:47 AM

I'm not stupid but i'm not going to vote for someone who as openly sided with the failed policies of george bush. He has done his service for this country and quit honorably in the military and as a long serving senator. But McCain policies are what they are, a disastrous path for the US. The world is changing, and needs a leader that can adapt to it and and understand its complexities. The only presidential candidate to have those capacities is BARACK H OBAMA. And because of it, he will resolve more of the US and the rest of the world's problems than McCain can do. The world cannot afford a republican president with the same mind set as the neocons.

Galasso, Nothing anyone else does or say be smirches your service in Nam. 2 1/2 years in Viet Nam is Service to the Max for our country. How do you feel about this? In 1994 a former Marine Sergeant names Gresham headed a fact finding trip to Nam to try to find living MIAs.The mission was funded by exvets and their families mostly living on the west coast. He reported to a congressional committee that he found credible evidence that at least 160 MIA were left alive in Nam. In 2001 John McCain headed a senate committee to study the same subject. McCain reported that no MIAs were left alive in Nam. Now, i don't pretend to know how many remain alive there, but I 'm damned sure that McCain's report can't be trusted. How in the world could anyone who has been in Nam make a statement like that? Who could know? You, having served in Nam must know gathering evidence like that would be impossible!. Why would mcCain do it/? what happened to "No Man Left Behind"?

    • Posted By: Galasso @ 07/24/2008 9:47:27 AM

I am not sure about that and have very mixed feelings about the MIAs. I was also on search team with the Joint Casualty Resolution Center (JCRC) in Vietnam after the troops had pulled out and we were lucky to locate as many remains as we did considering the rate of decomposition in the heat and humidity. I don't think we should consider abandoning even the idea of MIAs not being alive. The possibility of that many being there is slim (given the age of the people and living conditions). I think that the only way we could get them back now is by offering substantial rewards for their discovery. Money usually brings everyone to their senses in cases like this. Even if there is one we should make it a priority in recovering that person. As far as McCain denying funds or access for a search like that, I would have to have more info. I think that some of these Congressional Committees are one-sided depending on whicch party is in the majority and sometimes members are out-voted. Plus many of these committees require concrete evidence before funds are mandated for certain activites. I just don't know.

      • Posted By: Bass Pro @ 07/24/2008 9:59:22 AM

Money won't do it either. millions of dollars have been given to area cheifs "war lord' and only unverifiable stories have resulted. The point is , who can make a staement that none are left alive there? any what was in it for him to say that?

  • Posted By: mj it @ 07/24/2008 9:46:02 AM

The Iraq war is good business for the private contractors and McCain is the guy who will keep us in Iraq - so Halliburton, KBR, Blackwater, Big Oil etc...continue to make a killing...while we pay for it with our young soldiers and tax dollars.

  • Posted By: mk2008 @ 07/24/2008 8:40:58 AM

a vote for Obama is a vote for absolute failure. He does NOT support our troops as evidence by his unwillingness to give the kudos for a job well done with regard to the 'surge'.

a vote for obama is a vote for socialism. Take from the 'haves' and give it to the lazy and those unwilling to work for a living. Obama has said himself that he has attended socialist meetings.

    • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 07/24/2008 9:43:19 AM

A vote for Obama is less bloodshed for our troops and the Iraqi people. Obama supports our troops. Obama is concerned for our troops. McCain wants to keep our troops in Iraq for ten more years! McCain wants to send our troops to their deaths to fight another war in Iran.

  • Posted By: citron16 @ 07/23/2008 11:42:38 PM

Obama was confused about which Senate committee he served on. "Just this past week, we passed out of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee???which is my committee???a bill to call for divestment from Iran as a way of ratcheting up the pressure to ensure that they don't obtain a nuclear weapon," he said. Just one problem: he actually sits on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. I could go on about Obama's mistakes but I think I have made my point!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 07/24/2008 9:23:54 AM

How about this citron? Obama can get forgetful just like anybody else. He has reasons to, he's been on the camp trail for almost a year. That can be stressful. But you knew that.

  • Posted By: arielglobalist @ 07/23/2008 7:31:13 PM

Obama has the character and stature of a leader who can productively engage with the globalized world in which we live. I can't think of a better representative of the United States on the global stage than Barack Obama.

    • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 07/23/2008 11:18:11 PM

How about someone who has the interests of the American people at heart instead of his own visions of power and status? Audicity of Hope indeed.

      • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 07/24/2008 9:18:33 AM

Which someone would that be? NOT McCain.

  • Posted By: Bass Pro @ 07/24/2008 8:13:27 AM

MY FRIENDS, I would never sink so low as to put on that cap! I must draw the line somewhere!

Yes, i am willing to sacrifice our young women and men in iraq, but that's just so the mouth-breathing faction of the G OLD P will vote for me. But no siree, no cap!

A vote for McCain is a vote against our Brave Troops.

    • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 07/24/2008 9:15:30 AM

Yeah B, McCain refers to everyone as his 'friends' and then he sends them to war.

  • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 07/23/2008 10:20:27 PM

Why doesn't he visit the camps while he is in Germany? Wonder if he's even been to the museum in D.C. -- I'd bet he hasn't.

    • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 07/24/2008 9:10:40 AM

You wish he doesn't and you wish he hasn't. Wish away pearson, Obama will beat McCain!

    • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 07/23/2008 11:52:25 PM

I have no idea what you are talking about. Obama is all show and no accomplishments. What "stature" does he have in the globalized world? He's never headed a corporation or even held a management position in any organization. He has no accomplishments he can point to.

  • Posted By: Richard1327 @ 07/23/2008 6:24:30 PM

Yet another rediculous photo of Obama with bowed head looking pious as if he's deep in thought or seeking god for strength and guidance. It's been done to death and none of these photo ops are spontaneous. It will, however, make a great picture book for future generations to look at in the Obama presidential library if a miracle happens and he gets elected. JFK already did these pensive "weight of the world on my shoulders" photos and his were real.

    • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 07/23/2008 9:16:28 PM

Nothing wrong with being pious. I try to do that daily. After all, my name Pia, means pious.

      • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 07/23/2008 11:55:16 PM

It's only wrong if it is feigned for the cameras, which I think it is.

        • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 07/24/2008 8:56:04 AM

GM pearson. Obama wasn't feigning. How could he? Obama has compassion. He was thinking of all the horrors the victims of those evil Nazis went through.

    • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 07/23/2008 9:21:19 PM

Richard, I'd like to add that reading your pious comments again made me laugh again. It's funny! You posted similar comments not too long ago.

Nice game play Obama - you look impressive in the Jewish head dress. I wonder why you didn't wear the men's islamic head wear in Afghanistan?

  • Posted By: MartinCarmel @ 07/24/2008 2:50:53 AM

Oooops! Obama's HUGE lead is now down to only 4 points! Gallop polls are very accurate. And remember....Kerry had a 6 point lead over Bush in July 2004....and lost in November. Dukakis had a 10 point lead over Bush-1 in July 1988....and lost. This is the same nation that elected an unpoular president during an unpopular war just 3 1/2 years ago.
    - McCain will win in November. Sit back and watch.

A portion of this nation has CLEARLY lost its mind. Obama does not know anything about foreign affairs. HOWEVER.....he learned A LOT from people who hate. Wake up America!!!! Obama is a scam artist who has NO business being where he is. Give us a black President, no problem, but NOT this man. Here is the reality: Obama had a "close, personal, 20 year relationship" with a bigot named Reverand Wright......who is close friends with one of America's BIGGEST racists, Louis "I hate Jews and White Devils" Farakhan. Did Obama object when his OWN CHURCH gave Farakhan a lifetime achievement award? This is the conversation at the water coolers of the nation, folks. Most Jews and Hillary fans will NOT vote for Obama and the polls are showing it.
The Obama Fever is wearing thin. Gallop now shows a 6 point lead. Remember, John Kerry had a 6 point lead over George Bush in 2004.....and he lost in November. Same with Dukakis and Bush 1 in 1988....a double digit lead in July. And he got smoked in November.
This is the SAME nation that re-elected an unpopular President Bush during an unpopular war just 3 1/2 years ago. Translation? Watch it unfold and watch the accusations of racial bias when Obama loses. So predictable.- McCain will win in November.

  • Posted By: love234america @ 07/23/2008 7:12:59 PM

Another lie by Obama; he's really good at lying. Today he says the U.s. will protect Israel if he's president; tomorrow he'll be helping Iran with their bomb. The Jews are smart people and will see through Obama's manipulative and arrogance personality, one that will say anything to get votes. If (help us God to let this not happen) he gets in office, he'll do darn well what he pleases as he's to egotistical to listen to anyone, even our generals and Chief of Staff (but again, he'll probably put only those in those offices whom will agree with Obama's decisions.)

Obama's inscription was, I'm sure, unintentionally apt, yet he missed the chance to comment on "man's potential for great evil" being realized all around him in the dispossesion, ethnic cleansing and daily murders being perpetrated by those he was pandering to in hope of capturing that all-important 2.8% of the U.S. population that drives elections and U.S. foreign policy.

    • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 07/23/2008 11:17:21 PM

Dead on. Obama flipped from pro-Palestinian to pro-Israeli when he decided to run for national office, telling his buddy Abu Abunimah that he would come out with his real feelings after the close election he was in was over. Here's what Abunimah had to say about Obama's switcharoo:

"Obama's about-face is not surprising. He is merely doing what he thinks is necessary to get elected and he will continue doing it as long as it keeps him in power. Palestinian-Americans are in the same position as civil libertarians who watched with dismay as Obama voted to reauthorize the USA Patriot Act, or immigrant rights advocates who were horrified as he voted in favor of a Republican bill to authorize the construction of a 700-mile fence on the border with Mexico."
