Comment: The problem for McCain is his "Judgment", if he really had superior military insight, he would have never agreed to go to Iraq until Afghanistan was "mission accopmlished". If mccain would have wanted to defeat Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, where they make base and train, if he would have wanted to actually bring BIN LADEN to justice, if MCCAIN has TRUE judgment, he would have stood on the floor of the Senate and said "WRONG WAR< WRONG TIME!" We would have "WON" in Afghanistan, instead of "cutting" our ablility to supply more troops and "running" to Iraq, for a "WAR FOR OIL" and for the bush ego.

If McCain had done that, there would not have been a "SURGE" required, AT ALL. thousands of Iraqis and hundreds od Americans would have been saved...but NOPE! McCain and BUSH wanted to go to a country that NEVER ATTACKED THE US, and star another war, and now MCCAIN AND BUSH want to go "bomb Iran, bomb bomb Iran". before AFGANISTAn or Iraq are clear...and you call that a "military mentality", you call that "Judgment"?

Comment: Colorado will go into the Obama column because of the large independent affiliation among voters. The Republicans here are well organized and motivated; but the war, the economy and the similarity of McCain to Bush will be too much to overcome. As in many other states, Independent voters are more against the Republican way of governing Washington than they are for Obama. They are reacting to a Bush administration that has been a disaster for everyone except oil companies. They will support change in any form because they are desperate for it. McCain will make it closer than most other Republicans could, but in the end he will lose because he is running for a party that is running on empty.

Once again it's Der Spiegel that manages to put Obama's Berlin speech in perspective..............

The [estimated] 200,000 onlookers who thronged to listen to Obama's speech should not deceive us. Listening is not the same as agreeing. Obama divides people, and not along traditional party lines.
It is, anyway, a great mistake to divide the voters in Western nations into left and right, aggressive and peace-loving, market orientated and critical of capitalism. In reality there are just two types of voters: the romantic democrats and the common-sense democrats.

So far, Obama has been the candidate for the romantics. His skill lies in enchanting his supporters with words. Whatever is held against him, his supporters turn into his favor. The man is an unknown quantity, no mud sticks to him! The man is measured, no, he is visionary! He wants to save the entire world, but it does desperately need to be saved, doesn't it?

It would have been interesting to find out how the reconciliation between Muslims and Christians will come about, when shortly before his departure he threatened the Islamic Republic of Pakistan with a military strike against its border region with Afghanistan. Pakistanis value their sovereignty as much as Americans.
Is it not foolhardy to set a timeframe for the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq at 16 months, when American generals fear another civil war? In Vietnam, they point out, the killing did not end after the US withdrew its troops.

And then there is the breathtaking list of domestic policy promises: affordable health insurance for the 47 million currently unregistered Americans, tax exemptions for all retirees on pensions under $50,000, higher minimum wages, multi-billion dollar infrastructure projects and finally tax credits for most Americans to boost the economy. How can that be paid for, if, as Obama has categorically ruled out, he isn't going to raise taxes on the middle class? Or is he planning for the US to go even more into debt (something he has equally vehemently ruled out)?

Of course, Obama may have no option now than to continue to offer the sky. At first many election strategists thought voters wouldn't believe politicians, promises anymore after their experience with Bush. Surprisingly, the opposite seems to be the case: Right now they'll believe everything.

One of the reasons that GM, Ford, and Chrysler are struggling is due to the fact that they failed to focus on new innovation - and relied solely on their bread and butter of SUVs. Why is it that anyone who questions if things can be better, idiots like you automatically assume people are unpatriotic?? People such as yourselves need to try and open your minds even just a little, and think what we need to do to turn things around before America is destroyed and becomes a non-entity in the global economy.

Why do we have the mortgage crisis that we have today? Why do we have problems with ethics? Why do we have so many health issues related to obesity? We need to stop kidding ourselves and stop looking for easy answers or solutions.

Quite honestly comments such as what you provide do nothing but bring negativity, but unfortunately we have to tolerate it because we have the 1st Amendment that guarantees free speech. First, DNC operatives converging on Denver in order to set up Obamas ''grass roots''deal were observed to use tax-free gas cards while filling up their Sherman tank-sized SUVs,prompting such anger that the state AG has been asked to look into Why Democrat Gas Hogs Cop A Better Deal Than We Do At The Pump.[Rocky Mountain News,July 21,2008].
Next,put off by the plans to put protesters at the convention into ''free speech zones''[or ''cages''as they are referred to by the Direct Action mobs], these,including these species of ''black-bloc anarchists''and other anti-everything protesters,have vowed to disrupt the convention using all means ''neccesary''. Great press for the Dems. Chicago all over again,2008 style. Where any hellraising will be plastered upon every single tv screen in the country. It will be amusing,to say the least,to see Howie fleeing from the teargas.

      Comment: Obama himself wrote most of what josemarti said; read his "Dreams From My Father". By the way, isn't Obama half white and mostly Arabic and just a bit Black? His father was mostly Arabic. Obama has a real fixation about his radical father who was married several times (and I believe once when he had not obtained a divorce). He left quite a group of children, radical & Muslim, in Keyna. Obama never wrote about being contented about being l/2 white; in fact, he gives the impression in his books that he does not like whites. Remember his statement about his white grandmother who was afraid of Blacks? And this grandmother raised him when his father abandoned him and his mother left him for a time to persue other interests. Obama is a closet Muslim.

Comment: Obama will take CO. And, it will be because of one issue: energy policy. McCain voted against raising CAFE standards twice (2003, 2005). Obama sees this as the only relatively short-term solution for our energy crisis. Once this is done, we can work on long term solutions that both candidates tout.

Comment: CNN just showed the latest polls in Colorado and Obama has lost ground to McCain Big Time??. McCain is on top now in Colorado. Obama also has dropped his double digit lead in Minnesota and is virtually tied with McCain. I love it Gramps might just beat Boy wonder!! Go Gramps Go!
