If our Constitution is being destroyed, then name one Constitutional protection that has been withdrawn from American citizens. The right to call terrorists living abroad? The right to wire money to terrorist organizations? The right to not go through security at the airport? Your free speech? What specific right has been taken away?

How are Americans in support of the war on Jihadism isolationist? It's just the opposite. Do you know what isolationist means? What are you talking about when you reference laws preventing "you from killing us representatives in the media"? I am unaware of any member of the media killed those that support the war on Jihadism. Do you even realize Stalin was a Communist? Conservatives are in favor of political and economic freedom while Stalin was in favor of politician and economic authoritarianism. oadyboy should be running for office! Lots of vague things that sound nice and wonderful, but ZERO specifics for exactly how one would go about implementing "prosperity!" You make it sound as if it's something we can put on a boat or a plane and ship right over to them in plentiful supply, when the leaders of THIS country haven't got a clue how to make it. Building Afghanistan into a stable and prosperous country is something that will take DECADES to do, and you can't just walk up to a terrorist on the street and say "hey buddy, how about a job, and you give me that gun?" Exactly why type of job are you going to give them? Building a road or a hospital? Yeah, right, well the problem with that is convincing the vast majority of them simultaneously that ending their fight is going to be worthwhile. That's not possible. Wake up and get a clue, then go back and push some more papers around your wildly successful company that you claim to be the "CEO" of.

This Newsweek reporter seems to be reporting on a lot of ???Chicken Little??? gossip and rumor which does not seem to have been verified and does not seem to be supported by objective evidence. That said, I find it disturbing that the quality of the military intelligence against the enemy seems to be so poor. Maybe this is because things are still being run by armchair military managers who are still looking at things from a large-scale perspective. These are the types that think that ???asymmetrical??? warfare is something new when it was used by us during the Revolutionary War (Francis Marion, the ???Swamp Fox???) and our Civil War (Jeb Stuart and John Moseby) and was also used against use in Viet Name (in the form of guerrillas).
If Taliban is moving from one place to another we should be able to track them (including as soon as they come in from Pakistan) with technology or small units and then take them out at a place of our choosing. If they have observers tracking our guys, why can???t we be better at finding them first and taking them out? If Taliban fighters are moving toward our one of our bases, our guy???s should have tools to help them know about it so that they can set up a counter strike (How about Claymores with minicams? Some of this is a technology issue. So of this is having overlapping support, which would require the personnel and material support that Bush and Cheney and the DoD politicos had prevented at the outset.

Anyone who interviews the Taliban and prints their propaganda is a terrorist. It's the news media that supported the terrorist bombings in Iraq.

Has anybody considered asking either candidate what our mission in Afghanistan is or should be? What will define victory in Afghanistan? Perhaps when the Taliban are no longer active there, but what if that is simply the result of the Taliban successfully relocating to a nuclear armed Pakistan? And what if the result of a total Taliban relocation to Pakistan is the evolution of a muslim extremist governed Pakistan? Will we chase them into Pakistan as Obama once blithely suggested? And at what cost, and for what objective?

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. And the conflict in Afghanistan looks so much purer, so much more justifiable for now, than our war in Iraq. Afghanistan, right now, is just another Iraq, but without economic or military power. Pakistan, on the other hand, will be a ripe plum if our adventure in Afghanistan results in Pakistan???s transformation into a radical muslim nation. What will either candidate do then? What price will we be willing to pay to stop that?

Or is this military adventure possibly more hopeless than many thought Iraq to be just twelve months ago? As presumptive president, Obama (and McCain) is prescribing a surge for Afghanistan much like the one which he was certain would not work a year ago. How high will he allow the stakes to go? Clear to the mat with a nuclear armed Taliban?

Simply transferring the issue from Iraq to Afghanistan does not increase the likelihood of success, does not consider the value of undertaking that conflict and certainly is naïve about just how deeply pursuing that rabbit might take us into a hole. It seems obvious that many Democrats would relish the prospects of pinning a defeat in Iraq on Bush. They should consider the possibility that defeat in Iraq might be followed by a harsher defeat at the hands of a nuclear armed enemy in Pakistan, when we discover that we are pursuing a goal which might not be worth the cost of attaining it. Its not that we cannot win, it will be when our leaders conclude that the prize is not worth the price.

Could the person who wrote the article be PAKISTANI TALIBAN? His name sounds a bit like he could be.

The writer should be writing for National Enquirer. Coalition and US forces certainly need him to tell the world that insurgents are hiding in the alleyways. He has a personal invitation to come to San Antonio, Texas to the southside and write about the gangs who crawl out of the woodwork at night. Not unlike those who live in Kabul, won't catch many residents traveling in that area.
I work in Kabul and am tired of big-mouth reporters making our efforts meaningless.
