    All those folks who want "a dog for a day" might consider volunteering to spend some quality time walking dogs for local animal shelters. Instead of paying someone money to rent an animal (with a shelf life of seven years), those people should be encouraged to donate to the shelters. Who knows, they might even find the dog (or cat) of their dreams .

    What is missing here perhaps is an experts' opinion (dog psychologist?) on the relative harmfulness (or benefits) of this practice (dog renting) to the dogs. Some dogs might be relatively resilient and able to deal with different environments/owners. Others might not.

    My son's dog was rescued from mean city streets. She has attachment and abandonment issues. I used to take her into our home when he went away for a week or a few days. Finally, I realized it just made her too anxious to be with me, so I stopped taking her.

    I think this is thoroughly a disgusting concept! Are we that sick, selfish and greedy of a society? This is completely shameful and should be against the law. These people have no regard for the life of these defenseless animals. Who is going to be their voice if we don't speak up and defend them?
