Money is definite
There are hundreds of organizations from Maine to California which would love to have these pet renters as volunteers and contributers. For free, you get the right to walk, groom, pet into a purring frenzy all the cats and dogs you could ever want! Call up the Helen Woodward Center or Rescue House in CA and volunteer to play with these lovely animals until they find their forever homes. Then, you can donate that nearly $100/month you were spending to rent a pet! :-)
Anybody who feels the need to spend time with a dog need only go volunteer at their local animal shelter. There are plenty of dogs that need walks, baths, brushing or just play time with someone who is happy to give them some attention and the shelter does not charge you for the priviledge.
What a revolting and greedy idea. Just the thought of my 2 dogs going thru this makes me sick. Dogs need love, affection, stability from ONE owner, not a dozen. And once they age, I guess they get tossed out of the program. If we don't come to our senses, this country is doomed.
You're spot on, real animal lover. Thankfully, we don't all foolishly view ourselves as gods, and are capable of understanding the meaning of compassion and the needs of animals we share this planet with. Just because an animal isn't a human child, can't speak or have a high powered job doesn't mean it doesn't matter. Besides, with the amount of rubbish I find the majority of people spewing out of their mouths these days, I prefer them! There's alot of truth in the saying, 'The more people I meet, the more I love my dog'.
Yes, I agree that the country is doomed...but it's because of people like you, who can't get their priorities straight when it comes to animals!
There are many organizations, such as Helen Woodward Center in CA, which would welcome these pet renters as volunteers who socialize the dogs or cats up for adoption. In every community, there are non-profits which rescue dogs, cats, horses, etc. which need pet loving people to help them work with these animals until they find their forever homes--and it doesn't cost nearly $100/month to do so! Matke that your donation to Rescue House or Helen Woodward, you pet renters! :--)
Banning pet rentals is ridiculous and the result of the coordinated effort of animal rights extremists. PETA is against ANY use of animals and works to end any and all animal use. This is just one more step in the process. They say pet rentals is harmfull, yet the act gives dogs an incredible chance to socialize with so many people making them calm and well adjusted. As opposed to dead; which is what would happen to them if they could not be adopted.
Dog Renting?!?!?! How absolutely immoral and cruel! Dogs have feelings just as people do.The only difference is that it's harder to tell how unhappy a dog is. They can tell you, however if you don't spend the quality amount of time as a pet owner does...the harder it is to see. What's next, renting children out to couples that aren't quite sure if they're "ready for the responsibility yet"? I am so completely ashamed that our government would give these people the permits needed to start this business. I feel for these animals and just want to cry for them. You could hear ME right? I'm speaking for these dogs in saying..."What have I done to deserve no love? Why am I being tossed around? Don't you care about me? Shame on you people! I hope they pull your business license and outlaw this injustice.
Honestly, this is a bad idea. Animals cannot physically or mentally deal with extreme variety of people and places they come into contact with. The are like children, when they get attached, they are attached for life. Of course I'm not some damn whiny liberal or as you say Mr. Ben Stroked "Libearl". You are obviously oblivious to anything but yourself. Granted there are other things going on with the world that this is a little ridiculous for people to be flipping out over. People need to realize animals are just as sensitive to their surroundings as you or I.
Dogs live in the moment, unlike children. It seems that the memebers who are renting these pets are screaned before the can have a pet. That would mean that the feed, shelter, and displine the dogs while in there care. What is so wrong with that no one is getting hurt. Look at it from a dogs view point: More walks, more petting, more treats, more runs, more people to love me! Then after my great visist with my human friend I go back home, have a good meal, a bath, and me time. WOW now thats the life!
sonshine1975 Your Comment: Dogs live in the moment, unlike children is so stupid do you even own a dog? They live in the same moment a child or adult lives in. They feel and fear just as everyone does so where are you coming from when you say they live in the moment and not in the world of the living? God take your pimping ideas with the rest fo the fools in here and trade your sorry lives for a day with an animal and see how you feel bousing back and forth person to person.
The way I see it - Animal rights are getting less and less attention, even though the rising population of people AND pets is apparent lately - which means more potential cases of animal abuse and abandonment. What if one of your "renters" lied his way through the screening and decides to use one of your dogs for an illegal dogfight in some cold alley out there? Your dogs have to be very healthy for you to want other people to purchase HOURLY time with them - I'm sure someone will want a nice healthy dog to collect bets on.
You've got to be kidding right now!! If people would spend 1/10 of this negative energy and channel it into focusing on neglected, abused and mistreated animals that live with their "owners" the world would be a better place. The chances of these evil-doers of which pandayaha speaks getting through the screening process are null, and the would most likely be priced-out of this wonderful service anyway. Find something worthwhile to fixate on!!!
How is this new? They've been doing this in Japan for years, but instead of taking the animal home, you "play" and "care" for the animal at the "rental establishment". This way, the animals DO have a sense of continuity, with the primary day-to-day caregivers being the employees.
The shelters here in the US have been doing this for years. You go in you sit with animals and you play and love on them. Why not do that...well because there is no profit in it for a corp. So as the Amierican way is greed breeds pimps like the ones in here that say its okay to whore an animal out!
this is absolutely disgusting and cruel. it amazes me that some people in this world could really take advantage of animals as sweet and as loyal as dogs for their own personal gain. now that the owner of this business has decided to move operations out of the US and London, she can get away with far crueler acts in other countries where animal rights aren't a high priority. this kind of behavior is also what causes stress and anxiety disorders in animals that are eventually put down because they are deemed too difficult to handle. i can't believe humans can be so cruel.
Actually, Mr.and Mrs. Government Leaders - pets already (sadly) have the 'disposable' label in vast amounts in this world, as you've obviously never heard of an animal shelter or driven the streets much. You couldn't be more wrong or ignorant or wasteful of your time in killing Flexpetz off. Or, more damaging to the needs of a few people who get comfort from a pet at times. Or, more hurtful to a few pets who get love and new experiences through their position wtih Flexpetz. These pets are in a better position than my own three dogs who get nanny visits or have to go to boarding during my frequent travels. I'm so disgusted with all of you writing these anti-Flexpetz laws that I simply would love to punch you in the face, knock some sense in to you..
Hmmm, and maybe doing it to yourself a few times might knock some sense into you, too?
Pet renting- Please, what next. When are people going to stop using animals as if they are objects and either have a pet for keeps, or don't have one. If you can't have one because of your job or whatever, then yes that might be sad, but tough. No-one made you have a job that meant you couldn't keep pets so don't put a dog through stress and a yo yo lifestyle just to feed YOUR emotional needs. If you want one THAT desperately, get another job for gods sake!!!!
I, also, am appalled by this pet "renting" business. I am a student, and right now I am doing a summer internship in Indianapolis. I am from a Chicago suburb, and I also attend school near there. I could not bring my dog with me for the summer unfortunatly, and my fiance works full-time. So, this summer, my dog has been moving from home to home depending on who has time to take care and watch her. My fiance and I are very responsible with her, and I don't like her being left alone for more than a couple hours so on days that he goes into his office (instead of telecommuting from home) he takes her to be "dog-sat" by one of our parents. And sadly, right now, I can first-hand see how shifting my dog back-and-forth from my parent's house, my in-laws house, and me and my fiance's house is affecting my dog. And she knows all these people very well! These are not numerous strangers "renting" her to have fun with. She seems more distant and not as happy-go-lucky as she usually is. Luckily, I am done with this internship in one week, and I can be back at home, and have her with me everyday in the place that she knows as her home.
And to ginasand - if you don't like animals, that's fine. But do not criticize others for how we feel. Sometimes my dog has more personality and smarts than some humans.
I wonder how often Doggie Pimps have to slap their ***?
lsneez ROFLMAO your the bomb! Those that are into the money and feel its cool to pimp your pet well all I can say is pimp yourselves fools!
Why is renting a dog for a day or an hour any diffrent then renting a horse to take a ride on? Something is very wrong with this picture. Why shouldn't this company be allowed to grow and expand. As long as the animials they have in there care are taken care of we shouldn't but our nose in where it doesn't belong.
But you certainly feel it strong enough to keep putting your nose in? WHAT is the right thing to put our noses into?

How is this phenomenon any different than the way many companies are replacing FT-with-benefits workers with vast armies of contract workers and temps? It's the "something for nothing" mentality that's causing so much emotional damage.
Except that the animals had no choice in this and they cannot speak if they are being mistreated or not, or just don't like the people they are being forced to be living with this week. Animals DO get attached.
I think there's an opportunity here! It does not have to be about making money, but making it convienent to love animals on a part-time basis. There are a lot of animals that need love and a lot of people with just a little time to love them. I say foster away its got to be better than a 3x5 cage Make it a quick an easy process like this business has done. Help the shelters why not, I'll sign up. I am curious why someone would use Flex Petz before trying a shelter...Customers of Flex Petz please blog
Animal lover in Florida As another from Florida I say you have been in the sun too long. What opportunity is there here? Do you even know what ???FOSTER??? means? It means someone takes in an animal until a home is found. This is whoring an animal out not fostering it out. Get your head out of the sun and see this is the same as putting yourself or you kids out on a street corner for money! Don???t insult those of us that foster with the intent to find a home. We do it not building up our pocketbooks but to get these poor animals loving homes!
You're amazed at what people come up with to make a buck, are ya? Well, everyone's got bills and I'm respectful of anyone who dedicates a career to helping animals.....yeah, everyone should volunteer somewhere and we should stop killing sharks and ... how does some general accounting (shelf life 7 years) have anything to do with abuse of animals? The animals aren't killed or turned away or necessarily retired after 7 years. I've just about had it with this close-minded, holy-perfectionist mindset that permeates our overly religious society!!! There IS NO HARM DONE TO ANY ANIMALS WITH FLEXPETZ - GOOD F'N GOD PEOPLE! Look, my home is an open door to dogs of all kinds and always has been, they all have different dogalities and behaviors......watch Dog Whisperer one time and understand, they follow humans who treat them respectfully!!!
I totally agree! Out of all the things that are wrong in the world we pick this to freak about! Gimme a break! The dogs I'm sure LOVE this! If the dog did not have the personallity suited for this then it would not be there!
This and so many other things - as we should Not close-minded here at all. BUT unless and until you have spent time around a shelter, you shouldn't speak.
